Bewick's Kitchen And Coffee House in Northumberland

We were passing through Rothbury with friends, when hunger struck the kids. We were unfamiliar to the area and so just tried a couple of places nearest to where we’d parked - but seemed quite reluctant to accommodate, perhaps fatigued by the space between Christmas and new year. Cue Bewicks - we were warmly welcomed by a really lovely guy, who accommodated our party of four adults and four kids. We had coffees/juices and scones - although the menu looks really varied, with some wonderful sounding breakfasts and brunches. Coffee was very nice, cheese scones were amazing and the onion relish that accompanies… well, I really regret leaving without either a jar or the recipe. Well worth a visit.

Afternoon tea absolutely fantastic. Very high quality food good portion size. Very nice hosts attentive and kind. Will be returning in the summer. Dog friendly.

Finally found somewhere great to eat in Rothbury ,best meal we’ve had in Rothbury by far , small , but great service , great food , relaxed atmosphere , keep up the good work guys , we will see you next time we’re visiting

Why five stars? The food alone is spectacular. Presentation, taste and quality are all on point and the portion sizes are generous. Highly recommend the pork belly bites - little flavour bombs of salty, fatty goodness in a sesame and soy dressing. All our food was delicious and I’m pleased to have friends in the area which means I’m more than likely coming back. To top it off, service was excellent and had a nice chat as we were all leaving and discovered there is a sister venue in Amble. Another one to add to the list for future visits!

The food is always top notch, with a great atmosphere and very friendly staff.

Popped in for a quick bite and was pleasantly pleased. The food was delicious and well set out. With an adult and child's menu. And cocktails to add a bit of sophistication. We had the the pulled pork and apple sandwiches with wedges and salad. Which was well worth it plenty of meat on fresh ciabatta bread with home made honey and mustard dressing on the salad. There is seating indoors and outdoors if you wish to sit outside And dogs allowed along as all paws are on the floors. Prices may seem a bit dear but well worth it for what you get. There is only one thing to be cautious of and that is the tables don't lean on the edges as it may tip. A real pleasant experience thank you to all the staff.

We’re surprised by some of the bad reviews because we thought the place was lovely. We had a bacon sandwich and breakfast bruschetta. Both on thinly sliced sour dough and both really yummy. Lots of places seem to think that doorstops of bread are what people want but the quantity of bread here was just right. We asked for, and got, crispy bacon. Coffee delicious. Service very friendly. Perfect place to stop for breakfast before going on to Cragside. I’m sure it will have been much better than what was available at National Trust. Highly recommend.

The best brunch I think I’ve ever had! Croque Champignoms. So tasty and well presented. All the family were delighted with their meal. Would recommend a visit for anyone passing through Rothbury. 5 star!

Filthy, cups were dirty, teapot filthy. Mess outside front door, dirty floor, skirting. Waiter came over and gave us an evening menu for breakfast. Didn't eat as had no confidence in it. Needs a woman to clean the place up.

We were a group of nine ladies staying in Rothbury for the weekend. So glad we booked in the evening to go to this wonderful restaurant. The staff, ambience and the food was beyond excellent! A lovely experience for us all. It’s equally as good during the day. Don’t miss it!

Fabyoulous restaurant The owner with great moustache was so so kind. The kitchen porter happy happy.crappie even when I undid his pinnie. Chefs food 500%. My husband had scampi followed by sticky toffee pud. I had chunk of cod with rice samphire . I actually had a Northumbrian oyster first attempt so salty but so tasty., Followed by their own version of Eton mess.best ever. Food was exceptional. I have been for a sandwich., they're massive. We sat outdoors. It's family run. I'd go every day if I could. People are lucky to live with this lovely place. I'll be back., apologies I forgot your name Bonny lad who looked after us.....

I've always had excellent food at Bewicks so yesterday i decided to try out thier new breakfast/brunch menu.....i wasn't disappointed either. The Croque Madame was delicious. Thank you to the chef and to the staff for thier prompt and friendly service. I'll be back!

We popped in here for breakfast earlier this week and it was excellent so we came back for evening meal...twice. I thought the quality of the food was outstanding. The place has a nice vibe about it, set in a lovely room with a view onto the village green. There's also some classic vinyl playing while you eat and a good selection of local beers. The lad serving us was great as well; very friendly and attentive. I really can't fault this place.

We called in with family for tea and cake whilst on holiday in the area. The restaurant was immaculate, lovely decor and the staff were incredibly friendly. They went above and beyond to cater for the whole group and were particularly fabulous with our 7year old, slightly grumpy child! The food was delicious-all homemade and beautifully presented. The Creme brûlée was especially good! Thanks for a delightful experience, we will be sure to return next time we are in the area. (The main menu dishes sounded delightful too!).

We were a group of 4 working in the area. We visited on a Wednesday night when they do the 2 steaks and a bottle of wine for £50 offer. We all had the ribeye, the food was fabulous, steak was beautifully cooked, very tender you didnt even need a steak knife, generous portions and extremely tasty. It came with mushroom with crumb topping which was gorgeous, onion rings cooked perfectly for a lovely crispy coating, lovely chips, a salad and coleslaw. We all decided that the main was so delicious that we also tried desert, even though we were full, we weren't dissapointed, they were excellent. This was the best meal I've had in a long time, thoroughly recommend it. The staff were also brilliant, polite and helpful.

Like some previous people we had been before to find it not open when it says it is, So we booked and went later,two young people running the place were pleasant enough but chefs they are not. Toast was rock hard and the Salmon was out of a packet from Aldi, I recognised the appearance and taste. Prices too high and quantity too low.

We had a lovely brunch. The dessert was heavenly! We'll definitely be back.

We arrived this evening for dinner. Absolutely amazing steaks - can’t remember having a better one, beyond delicious. All the accompanying sides were amazing too. Great value in a beautiful setting. Jonny was the perfect host. Thank you.

I’ve been to Bewicks (Rothbury) several times with my partner and friends and it’s always been good but this time it seems the prices have gone up and portion sizes down. We had ‘posh’ scampi which at £19 was overpriced for a few pieces of scampi and a v small portion of chips. The scampi, which was slightly overcooked as quite dry (not enough to complain about though) came in a basket which looked like a reasonable portion but when tipped out was half filled with salad leaves. The service was good and normally we would leave tip but on this occasion we felt the price of the meal was enough.

As we were staying in Amble we came to suss out Rothbury for cafes,restaurants and pubs, as myself and eight other lady friends are staying in Rothbury for three nights the beginning of September. We had a lovely coffee in the Bewick and took home two lovely cheese scones.The meals advertised for lunch or evening meal sounded very appealing and weren’t over priced too. Leo gave me lots of useful information for my up and coming stay.

Found this lovely little restaurant by chance when visiting Rothbury for few days. Had wonderful dinner, food perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. Staff very friendly and professional. Will definitely visit again when next in the area.

After booking, we arrived on a very rainy, wet day. I have Coeliac disease so the staff knew. I ordered the fish pie which was gluten free and my hubby had the beef burger. The fish pie came with broccoli which I was pleased about as I love veg. My hubby’s burger came with homemade wedges, onion rings & salad accompanied by spicy chilli mayo and coleslaw too. A lovely meal, my hubby said the best burger in Northumberland!! Dog friendly too, which was a great bonus.

We got there at 10 o'clock in the rain. It wasn,t open. As it opened we asked to come in and wait out of the rain. We were told no, as the floor needed to be swept. Maybe the floor should be swept before the stated opening time. Positively unfriendly and unhelpful.

A smart little cafe with restaurant quality food and excellent coffee

We visited on 22/06/2024. Great food including local oysters & a good choice of wine, local beers & spirits. The menu offers a steak for two & a bottle of house wine for £50 on Tuesday & Wednesday so we went back on the following Wednesday. Perfectly cooked good quality steaks & a decent house red. Perfect. Give it a try. We will be back soon.

Pity the council were digging up the road out front while we were having a 'quiet ' lunch' !! Otherwise everything was excellent, looking forward to them opening in Amble

For us it is the perfect place to sit in doors. Very soothing music and the staff are very cool professional people the oyters from linderarne are the best. I had 6 for a starter and then insisted I had another 6 for desert because they are so creamy. The perfect afternoon brunch......

We had a recent stay in Rothbury and the hosts of our accommodation recommended Bewicks. We booked a table online for the same day. We had a wonderful evening there, with great drinks, food and music. Most of all the service was brilliant. Couldn't recommend this place more.

We’re locals and enjoy visiting Bewicks regularly. Today it was just for a few drinks in the sunshine but as always, great selection of drinks and great friendly service! The bistro was busy as it was lunch but if we had wanted to dine inside, we wouldn’t have waited long to do so. Instead we enjoyed a lovely bottle of rose in the sun (and wind) watching the world go by in the picturesque village of Rothbury!

Enjoyed a fabulous meal this evening, we had the steak night special and it didn’t disappoint. Two courses £60 per couple with a bottle of wine. The steak was cooked to perfection and the salmon option I’m told was absolutely delicious. Melt in the mouth steaks all round with delicious homemade chips, peppercorn sauce, grilled tomatoes, salad and garlic mushrooms. Highly recommend x

I rang Berwick's a week prior to our meal enquiring for Beef Wellington as I had been suggested Bewick's from a number of people in a Northumberland Facebook group. It wasn't on the menu however the Cafe said they'd be more than happy to make it for us. You absolutely went above and beyond our expectations and made our experience incredible and memorable. Given the best seat in the house with views of Rothbury around, you have wonderful, friendly and extremely attentive staff working the floor and your chef's skills are immaculate. The meal can only be described as *chef's kiss* magnificent. Cannot wait to return to try more of the delicious food and cocktails you have to offer. Really happy to have discovered the place. Thank you all once again for making our experience amazing, you've given us high expectations for Beef Wellington for the future.

My wife and I went for lunch without any prior knowledge of the premises. The greeting was warm and genuine and we were given time to make our choices of food and drink. The timing was enough but not too long and our order was taken. The food was cooked fresh and a short but a pleasantly acceptable delay followed. We both had fish pie and vegetables which were cooked to my taste and full of flavour. Pudding followed again very tasty. The atmosphere in the room was calm and pleasant and the waiter was attentive and showed interest in our visit. We live an hours drive away but we will be returning in the future. Well worth a visit.

Lovely venue with friendly and helpful staff. We went on a whim with our 2 year old and they were really accommodating, asking if we wanted a high chair, or the kids menu. The food was amazing too! I got an Irish stew from the specials menu, my husband a pulled pork sandwich and my son chicken goujons. The chips were particularly tasty. We all really enjoyed our food and the hospitality that the staff showed us. Would recommend, would go back!

When we arrived, we had to wait for ages to be seated - enough empty tables available. The service was almost unfriendly & it took ages to be served, the scones were extremely dry (and no cream) and the Victoria sponge was not better. Very over priced and won't return.

I often come to Bewicks when i'm feeling like a treat and they never disappoint. Today i took my 91yr old mum and we had an excellent lunch. As usual the staff were very very helpful and made sure we were comfortable. We both had the Gressingham duck which was cooked to perfection as were the accompanying veg. The Creme brulee was delicious and the cocktails were lovely. Thankyou to the team...we'll definitely be back.

Bewicks is an amazing and relaxing venue. We popped in for Brunch/breakfast and it’s a fantastic place to eat & drink. The staff are lovely and who can beat a little Billie Holiday playing on the turntable… yes, good old turntable. 😃. Followed by Jack...

Stopped here for a drink and snack after a walk by the river with our dogs. Chose this place because its dog friendly but actually decided to sit outside. The lady who served us (sorry I didn't ask her name) was lovely :) offered us a table inside but we were more than happy to sit outside. She wiped down our chairs and tables (it had been raining quite a bit) and took our order.. Victoria sponge and chocolate cake, both with fresh cream! They were both tasty and were devoured quickly!! I could hear music playing inside which sounded great.. just my cup of tea! Will definitely return and sample a meal. Fantastic place and lovely staff 👍🏻

We went for an impromptu family visit at the end of trip to Chillingham Castle and was probably one of the nicest meals we’ve ever had. Couldn’t fault anything already planning our next trip back!
