Bewick's Kitchen And Coffee House in Northumberland

We’re locals and enjoy visiting Bewicks regularly. Today it was just for a few drinks in the sunshine but as always, great selection of drinks and great friendly service! The bistro was busy as it was lunch but if we had wanted to dine inside, we wouldn’t have waited long to do so. Instead we enjoyed a lovely bottle of rose in the sun (and wind) watching the world go by in the picturesque village of Rothbury!

My wife and I went for lunch without any prior knowledge of the premises. The greeting was warm and genuine and we were given time to make our choices of food and drink. The timing was enough but not too long and our order was taken. The food was cooked fresh and a short but a pleasantly acceptable delay followed. We both had fish pie and vegetables which were cooked to my taste and full of flavour. Pudding followed again very tasty. The atmosphere in the room was calm and pleasant and the waiter was attentive and showed interest in our visit. We live an hours drive away but we will be returning in the future. Well worth a visit.

Lovely venue with friendly and helpful staff. We went on a whim with our 2 year old and they were really accommodating, asking if we wanted a high chair, or the kids menu. The food was amazing too! I got an Irish stew from the specials menu, my husband a pulled pork sandwich and my son chicken goujons. The chips were particularly tasty. We all really enjoyed our food and the hospitality that the staff showed us. Would recommend, would go back!

Great Sunday lunch: generous portions, excellent flavours, charming service. Overall great value for money. Recommend booking as they were turning people away.

When we arrived, we had to wait for ages to be seated - enough empty tables available. The service was almost unfriendly & it took ages to be served, the scones were extremely dry (and no cream) and the Victoria sponge was not better. Very over priced and won't return.

Had a fabulous lunch here. Food was excellent, onion rings outstanding 👌. The service was first class and the atmosphere relaxing with very good background music. Would highly recommend and we will be back.

I often come to Bewicks when i'm feeling like a treat and they never disappoint. Today i took my 91yr old mum and we had an excellent lunch. As usual the staff were very very helpful and made sure we were comfortable. We both had the Gressingham duck which was cooked to perfection as were the accompanying veg. The Creme brulee was delicious and the cocktails were lovely. Thankyou to the team...we'll definitely be back.

Bewicks is an amazing and relaxing venue. We popped in for Brunch/breakfast and it’s a fantastic place to eat & drink. The staff are lovely and who can beat a little Billie Holiday playing on the turntable… yes, good old turntable. 😃. Followed by Jack...

Lovely welcoming cafe. We had gorgeous coffee’s and sandwiches and just loved it. The dog gave it a paws up too. Would return in the evening food all looked delicious.

Second birthday dinner here, there were 23 people, as with previous Birthday Dinner, every single plate of food was absolute perfection, cocktails were great and service superb- faultless

Went in at 10:30am for a coffee... Asked the assistant whether they were open; he looked up and said "not really; I suppose you could sit outside". I went somewhere else.

Stopped here for a drink and snack after a walk by the river with our dogs. Chose this place because its dog friendly but actually decided to sit outside. The lady who served us (sorry I didn't ask her name) was lovely :) offered us a table inside but we were more than happy to sit outside. She wiped down our chairs and tables (it had been raining quite a bit) and took our order.. Victoria sponge and chocolate cake, both with fresh cream! They were both tasty and were devoured quickly!! I could hear music playing inside which sounded great.. just my cup of tea! Will definitely return and sample a meal. Fantastic place and lovely staff 👍🏻

Great meal at this lovely restaurant. The service was prompt, pleasant and informative and the menu options wide ranging using high quality local products. Crab and locally produced bread was a highlight along with superbly cooked pork belly and mackerel pate starter. Good range of wines and cocktails too. Would highly recommend this little gem.

Nice looking coffee shop in Rothbury with seating inside and out, nice toilet. We both had coffees which were fine. Also had scones jam and cream. Scones were a bit small but very nice, jam was from a sachet which was ok but the cream was watery and unpleasant. Expected more for our £14. The homemade cakes looked good, perhaps we should have had these instead.

Fantastic- We ate in this restaurant last year, I had the surf & turf from the specials menu, (Lobster & Steak) it was the best, so back again this year & table booked. Fabulous menu with great choice & price range. I mentioned to the waitress (Joanne) as we were paying about the surf & turf we had last year & how good it was, unfortunately not on menu. Joanne came back & said chef would try & sort something out if we wanted to come back later in the week, absolutely - table booked. Back tonight & had the surf & turf, what a feast, this restaurant is a hidden gem in the village. Thanks tonight to Joanne & Paddy, great service & nothing a hassle - Quality place.

Sorry but burnt fruit scones with a slightly cheesy taste and squirt cream does not make a good cream tea. Not recommended.

Having walked the length of the main street we were a bit disappointed with what was available but then spotted Bewick's. Friendly and quick service, very nice coffee and scones. The food being served to others looked very good, so next time we will plan to have lunch there.

We just had dinner, and I can barely remember a better meal. Every course was delicious. Local food, prepared with huge skill and flair. I cannot recommend Bewicks highly enough. Go! You'll not be disappointed. Thanks to the team. Keep doing the amazing job you're doing.

A great spot if the weather allows you to sit outside. Cheerful and hard-working staff and good food.

Good value and nearly very good food but silly mistakes spoiled the experience. The belly pork very dissapointingly didn't have crispy crackling and the leek & nettle cheese pudding came complete with a whole bay leaf! My vanilla & rasberry creme brulee came with two shortbread biscuits: unfortuunately one of these was BURNT on the bottom leaving a nasty aftertaste (see picture). Overall without the silly mistakes it would have been 5*, shame they let themselves down. If we lived nearby we'd give it another go...

Unfortunately the customer is not always right here. An issue over a menu choice resulted in me being charged for the most expensive dish on the menu, even though I only had a burger.

I will be moving up to the north-east later this year and currently I’m enjoying exploring the area. We stopped here for a bite to eat, and something to drink. We just wanted a light bite and so my wife had a fruit scone and I had a cheese scone. The cheese scone really does need to be cheesy, and it would be fair to say that buying a pack of 4 cheese scones from Tesco shows the difference in quality. The Tesco scones are very very cheesy, whereas the one I had here could do with a lot more cheese. Having said that, it was nice to stop and hear some decent music for a change played on a record player.

Wonderful place to eat in the heart of Rothbury. Fantastic village views and cosy atmosphere in the dining area. Owner was extremely friendly and knowledgeable as are the waiting staff. Great selection of dishes and extra variety on the specials board. Wine and beer choices top notch alcohol free local beer options for designated drivers. Outdoor seating available which will be great for the summer months. Can’t wait to return.

We ate here last night after a recommendation. We’re staying at Huts in the Hills. The food was superb. Highly recommend. Go and try it out you won’t be disappointed. High quality ingredients cooked to perfection.

Little stroll around Rothbury - thought I'd have a coffee - place looks fab and have to say cakes etc looked amazing. Whilst I get everyone has bad days - the guy serving didn't crack a smile to ANYONE. Waited to be served then asked for a menu and got what could only be described as a dirty look. Not the best vibe so - I walked out, not rude just said it didn't matter - to be followed by the guy who seemed aggrieved I wasn't staying- I think he said I was rude whilst chasing after me?? A very pleasant discovery while visiting Rothbury. Stopped in for coffee and cake, both of which were excellent, but was struck by the character of the place. It’s a fine old building and the decor and music were very tasteful. A nice place to while away an hour or two.
