Scotts of Alnmouth in Northumberland

BEWARE of overcharging at this shop. They don’t take cash, a detail you only find out when you are at the till, and was then overcharged by 75% on the card machine. As I wasn’t offered a receipt this fact wasn’t obvious until I was in an area where there was phone reception. Two trips back to the shop have failed to recoup the money and now no one is answering the mobile number I was given. Poor experience all round.

I have been going to Alnmouth for 30 years and have visited this shop only a hand full of times. Each time thinking surely the service will be better this time. Sadly not so I will not go again. The owners are the rudest I have come across. Having placed my order and paid (by card only!) the owner walked out of the shop and took a phone call. He returned started to make my coffees then walked off to the shelves, took 3 jars of produce off a shelf, photographed them and then returned to finish my order. I was the only customer in the shop and it took 15 minutes. If you can’t treat your customers with respect I suggest you find another line of work.

We went to Scotts twice during our stay in Alnmouth. Everything we had was delicious. The first day we bought sausage rolls, cheese straws and cake - all fantastic. The second day we got the Thai salmon to reheat and it was amazing. Everyone was so friendly. Definitely somewhere to go if you're in Alnmouth.

Wow! What a delight this place is selling high quality food, wine and delicious coffee. We chose some delicious items to take-away , a meaty sausage roll containing meat rich sausage meat peppered with mustard seeds and herbs . The salmon and cream cheese sandwich was delicious and good value at only £3.50. The coffee was excellent quality too. Will definitely be back when next in Alnmouth .

Recently visited Alnwick and discovered Scott's nearby, as my partner and I are both coffee snobs, so we tend to prefer quality over quantity when it comes to a cup. We picked Scotts as we noticed, via some Google Images photos, that they served a locally roasted coffee (Pilgrims). As a rule of thumb, locally roasted coffee is a decent gamble as it's often freshly roasted unlike your typical vacuum sealed packs. As it turned out, my girlfriend and I chose the perfect week to visit as the owners had recently started roasting their own coffee. That week it was a naturally processed coffee. What can I say - the in-store roasted coffee was fantastic, so much so that we brought a 1kg bag back home with us. Having glanced over some of the reviews talking of a negative atmosphere, I couldn't disagree more. My girlfriend and I had some great conversations with the owner, he's an absolute fountain of knowledge when it comes to coffee related topics. Scotts' definitely takes the top spot in my list of great coffee finds.

We were in Alnmouth for a gathering of 23 friends and family, and Andrew came to the rescue. Not only did he produce an array of dishes - Chicken Ruby, Dhal, Vegetarian Ruby, Naan, Bun Maska pudding - but installed them in our cottage, ready for our arrival, along with idiot-proof instructions. The next day I discovered the shop itself, which is beautifully curated. My only request is he opens a branch of Scotts in West London, where I live.

I have been going to Scotts for a number of years. I love the offer and the coffee is great. Unfortunately, I have decided that I won't go again. The staff, in fact I think they are the owners, are unwelcoming and rude and I don't think they deserve my custom any more. Sorry but smiles and politeness cost nothing.

Only take out drinks and cakes available. Variety of produce but extremely overpriced. Appalling service. Man serving was very arrogant and rude. Will never go back here. Avoid this place. There are plenty of friendly pubs and cafes in Alnmouth.

This place has some absolutely lovely produce but could be sooooo much better if the staff were friendly. It has a very unfriendly atmosphere as soon as you walk in, quite daunting actually. I was watched as I wandered around and yet no one chose to even say hello. Bought two sandwiches and two coffees for £15 which is pretty standard but I won’t go back purely because they don’t come across as wanting your business.

What a fabulous shop. Freshly baked breads, cakes and pastries if you’re hungry. A large range of ‘different’ cheeses to go with the bread. Locally made ready meals if you can’t be bothered to cook or visit the local eateries. An abundance of gifts to take home to loved ones. Pretty much everything you need in one shop. I seemed to remember a little cafe at the back last time we came but that had disappeared, which was a shame. Really friendly and helpful shop owner and staff. A definite ‘must visit’ if you’re in Alnmouth.

After a wander around the quaint village, we decide on pastries and coffee from this deli. The place is packed with so much choice of lovely things to buy, both to eat and to drink and also presents to take home too. There are cakes, savouries, jams coffees teas and much much more. Worth a visit!

This is a fantastic deli selling a vast array of luxury products. We also called in for breakfast a couple of mornings as were staying in a cottage in Alnmouth. The coffee is superb and the Portuguese Custard tarts are as good as the ones I have had in Portugal.

A well curated selection of deli items , coffee and fresh bread. Friendly staff BUT seriously charging 50p for a plain brown bag with an inked stamp of your name is just not on with nearly £20 spent!!!!!

Love spending time in the Deli. The shelves are always brimming with amazing food. The fresh deli counter and take away food are exceptional. A must is their sour dough bread - always on my list when I visit

Best sandwich I’ve had in years. Cakes were delicious too. Take away or eat in. Reasonable prices too.

. . . there was a strange atmosphere, with customers being asked where they are going to wait for their order; some people waited outside. I stood at the counter with a chocolate bar I had chosen, and I was close to putting it back and walking out when the man eventually stopped explaining to customers the necessity of asking them to wait outside. I had to ask for a sandwich twice as he wasn't listening . . . I paid £9.00 for a salmon and cream cheese sandwich and chocolate bar; the sandwich was thick bread with a mean filling and dry. I live locally and have never been impressed by their customer service; I won't bother again.

We called in to Scott's just as they were closing and after a quick look around, were about to head out, talking ideas of food for the next day. Andrew very kindly showed us his frozen range of meals, even suggesting he was making up a batch of RUBY curry that night. He actually boxed up 4 portions ready for us to collect as they opened. We all thoroughly enjoyed the meal that night. Can't recommend the shop highly enough, not just for the excellent tasty food, but also for the helpful way in which we were treated. Thank you and we will be back!!

Well what a very rude man running this shop ! First time visit as we always have the dog but certainly won’t hurry back! A very interesting selection of goods but no customer service skills whatsoever! More interested in chatting to tourists than serving the locals who will bring in repeat business & recommendations!

Our favourite coffee shop, been using ever since they first opened, the nicest coffee (try the flat white), always a delicious selection of cakes (great Portuguese custard tarts) and lots of other delicious goodies too. The owner always seems to be there and clearly cares. Staff always friendly and helpful and bring coffee out to customers with a smile.

Came across this place when travelling back after a holiday. The takeaway coffee was incredible, as good as I have had since while being home from Melbourne, Australia. The chocolate brownie was lovely too. Staff were friendly and enthusiastic.

We popped in to buy lunch. The ordering procedure was very unclear, the assistant was very abrupt and you could only pay by card. Food was nice, but expensive for what you got.

Apologies for the long overdue review. I popped in one lunch time, extremely ravenous. The chorizo and pepper bagel peaked my interest. When ordering the gentleman asked if I would like grilled halloumi with it? Agreed and ten minutes later I was handed a mammoth of a sandwich. I’m a little on the large size and struggled to finish it.

We regularly use Scott's for coffee & cakes as we live locally & often overlook leaving a review. But we are always delighted with whatever we buy from here. Yesterday we bought 3 takeaway meals & last night had the Chicken Ruby & black bean dhal. Both were truly excellent. We'd had coffee & cake after our walk on the beach. Both the Nata & dried fruit & almond cake were delicious. We look forward to having the beef with parmesan dumplings tonight. We're confident it will be as good as everything else! We've also got treacle tarts for desserts, which we already know are divine. Such a treat to have amazing food & scrumptious cakes. Thanks to the owners & staff for providing such a warm & friendly welcome & great service during this tough time.

We live locally so usually avoid Alnmouth much of the year because it is so busy. Now lockdown is upon us again we need some treats to help us through so I was delighted to read Scott's is open every day for takeout food. We bought Custard Tarts, Cheese Scones and Savoury pies and everything is first rate. The Cheese scones being the best ever!We will look forward to regular visits through winter. Thank you Scott's

Visited this shop today after looking forward to a visit whilst staying nearby. Made to feel uncomfortable so didnt buy as many treats as I expected to. Did buy a naked pork pie which cost £4 and it was exceptionally disappointing

First visit to this little gem , they sell lots of fantastic deli bits and bobs, home made pies etc BUT you must have a crab sandwich, made to order ,with dressed side salad, the best thing to eat on the beach !!

It has been a beautifully sunny day, with more depressing news about Covid19, so we decided to have a 'day off'. We live locally, and fancied a picnic on the beach; Scott's was our obvious choice and we were not disappointed. My husband ordered for the family, after joining a short queue, and he was beckoned in with a warm welcome. Covid compliant and well organised. We walked to the beach with our goodies; grilled halloumi, sandwiches generously filled with coronation chicken, smoked salmon, egg, cheese and pickle, and soft drinks. Delicious, beautifully packaged and thoroughly enjoyed . . . to be repeated, even if it's raining!

Lovely choice, freshly made sandwiches, good choice of drinks, cakes and crisps. £13.00 good price, good quality

Fabulous foodie selection deli and take-away but with no prices and the chalked display prices not always matching the items close by, when I got to the till the total was an expensive surprise.10 minutes after I'd left my banking app indicated that my contactless payment had been declined so in the interests of honesty I popped back to check and settle up. The team were thankful for my honestly - their mistake which they had not noticed - and then bumped up the bill as they had forgotten to charge for my take-away coffee. I was happy to pay for what I'd had but but this deli is very, very expensive.

Just had two very tasty takeaway box lunches from this deli. If you are thinking of a visit just go ahead you will not be disappointed.

Well what can we say about this place? It was absolutely fantastic. The food is amazing and well worth it for you can taste the quality of the ingredients used. The atmosphere is so relaxing we didn’t want to leave hence us popping back almost daily for either breakfast, brunch or just to purchase the amazing scones they bake on site. The staff are just as chilled & their warm approach to customer service is above & beyond. And they pies...oh my days...the pies...they are so yummy that we ended up purchasing some to take home for our family. Honestly the quality of the produce both sold & served, we felt was outstanding. After this quarantine business, this is one of the first places we will be definitely going back to.

Just dropped in for a quick coffee. But then thought "lets eat". No chance! Bagel cream cheese and smoked salmon £7 plus. I had a look at a steak pie, once again shock....£ 4 for a pie but £7 to eat in. Come on guys!. Maybe i could of said something, but i think the constructive criticism would not change anything.We paid over £5 for two coffees but weren't much to brag about ( very weak) but this is just my opinion of course. However the place was nice and clean, staff could have been more friendly.. overall not a good experience. Very overpriced!. Sorry.

Stopped by for a coffee and shortbread biscuits. Delicious biscuits and lovely coffee. Very nice lively ambience especially in the seating area down the steps.

My wife and I have just spent 2 nights up in Alnmouth, on the first morning we decided to try Scott's deli for breakfast and it was so good we went back the next day for another taste sensation. The food is beautiful, locally sourced and reasonably priced...the cheesy bubble and squeak is the best meal I've had in years.

Great concept, restaurant with deli with an interesting menu, nice log burner in the lower area where we sat on a cold miserable day, we had soup of the day which was cauliflower cheese, needed a lot of seasoning which were all empty on our table, eventually we were provided with some with a bit in - its a Deli surely they have salt and pepper??

Fancy, a deli in Alnmouth with those delectable Portuguese custard tarts! One is not enough. We also sat down to lunch and the party enjoyed pancakes with bacon, and several other items from an eclectic menu.

Wow. Stubbled across this deli cafe whilst on a walk. Absolutely the most gorgeous homemade Carrot cake I have ever eaten.The coffee was lovely too. Definitely a place to visit if you are in the area. Sorry no photo. I was so busy eating and enjoying every mouthful I forgot to take a photo

Alnmouth is a lovely village in a lovely part of the world. We always come to this area out of season, through choice as it is much quieter.

For a deli serving eat in or take away food this is really good place to stop. Not a romantic destination but great food and healthy options galore. Great scones, coffee and light lunch options in a pleasant environment. A small selection of pre-packaged foodstuffs all very good quality and interesting but therefore not bargain prices. Recommended.

Having been several times before we made a detour to go for lunch today. The food was good (as always) although I was a little put off by the overuse of microwaves in the kitchen (that I could see into).

Only staying in Alnmouth a couple of days ago wasn't able to sample everything on their breakfast menu. However, can highly recommend the pancakes with berries. The scrambled eggs are delicious. Also tried the avocado on toast. The cheesy bubble and squeak is recommended too. All accompanied by excellent coffee. Takeaway sandwiches were a delight to eat later in the day. Looking forward to coming back.

We only had coffee here but it was divine. Also had a pie to go which was very nice although Paul Hollywood might have said to big a gap between lid and filling.

I visit the area regularly and have often walked past this place admiring the menu. I ventured in for a couple of pies recently. The Middle Aged man behind the counter seemed very stand offish and I was made to feel as though I was causing some inconvenience being there. Not a smile, hello or any pleasant greeting. I almost felt i had no right to be there such was his attitude.

Last night we had the pleasure of attending the Asian feast night based around dishoom recipes. We have been to many other feast nights and they have all been great but this one was outstanding. Food wine and service from Andrew and his excellent team fantastic. Buttery chicken curry, super smooth soup and Janice’s awesome bread and butter pudding standouts.

We sat down at a table as instructed by unwelcoming staff, then left within minutes and went to The Village Tearooms instead. Good choice.

We were lucky to sit outside at the front on Saturday morning with our dogs and experience a gap in the cloud to enjoy a sunlit coffee and biscuit break. The Portuguese custard tart was rather good.

Just passing through after dropping a friend at the station so stopped off for a coffee as the premises looked so inviting with several tables outside, all of which were occupied.

Perfect light lunch, well planned menu and delicious food. I had hummus on sour dough bread with salad - very tasty. My husband had a pie which was delicious and beautifully presented.
