This was a really poor experience - primarily went to dine but apparently there was to be a change of menu the next day. Virtually everything on the menu was not available, so my choice (not actually a choice) was hunters chicken. My wife ordered scallops wrapped in parma ham as a starter - this consisted of 3 scallops and NO Parma ham. We were offered a drink as compensation, but after a long day we just wanted to leave.

I have never had a bad meal there. The staff are all friendly and genuine. The two course menu is very good value. The lamb railway curry is delicious. Today I had garlic prawns to start. Loads of prawns, garlic and butter. I would suggest adding some fresh parsley to the mix. Main course I had Cajun chicken burger. The chicken was hot, spicy and moist !!! Like the best things in life !!! The chips were not very crispy. I would suggest hotter oil or double cook the chips. The slaw was delicious !!! I would give it 9 out of 10. Any chance of a chicken railway curry ???

I stayed here at the weekend with my partner. The bar staff and service was very friendly and welcoming. The food was amazing and cooked to perfection and the rooms were clean and tidy, stylish and chic. This is the third time we've stayed here this year and we'll definitely be back again, especially for the Ribeye steak and sunday lunch - the gravy is the best I've ever had!

Legitimately one of the worst meals I've ever had in a pub. I was with the previous reviewer and I was entirely unimpressed. They didn't have our original orders, so we had to be flexible straight away, spoiler alert - we wanted the rare ingredient of pork. Instead, I ordered a steak literally LITTERED with pepper and charcoal that may have once been called chips. Another person in our party (who also wanted pork) ordered a burger... He left it for our greyhound to eat. Just all round poor. Other two in our party had Lamb and dauphinoise potatoes instead got burnt broccoli and lumpy mash. The only thing lumpier was the price. Hard avoid.

Stayed over for a weekend. Accomodation is located very close to the beach in a friendly little town. This is quite remote so best bet is probably using a bus if relying on public transport. The two ladies at the bar were very helpful and friendly and the room itself was fit for purpose. Given this is a pub, it is slightly noisy until closing time which is to be expected. Expect a continental breakfast which is self service and a dinner menu which is not too expensive. The cooked food was really enjoyable. Not an extravagant getaway by any means but would say this is overall good value for money and would recommend for a short term stay.

Food portion pie of the day was way too small, anaemic pastry, overcooked peas for Christ and sake and mash presented very poorly with clearly little thought. Other meals were good x3. Though lamb was stone cold. Staff very friendly and attentive. Chef needs to work on presentation if nothing else.

Clean modern updated pub. We ordered 2 lamb burgers. Gin with flavoured tonic water ( my gin glass was filled to the very top with tonic water! I couldn't taste the gin at all - half way would have been better but the tonic came from a tap not a bottle) & pint of beer. The burgers weren't that hot and mine had a raw part in the middle. (I mentioned this whilst paying and said if a probe had been used it should have noticed this fault. I left the middle part of the small, thin burger on my plate. ) The pub had a few local people in, parking is available all around on the streets and free.

Booked a meal while staying at a friends holiday home in New Biggins After looking on the web site & the site describing the chef as young & talented using fresh ingredients, thought we would book a table Lady behind the bar was very friendly & inviting as we walked in, she took our drinks order, which she soon delivered them took food order She then came back to say no curry, so had to choose something else Only 1 starter order which took 30 mins to arrive, black pudding stack for the starter, was literally mash potato & 2 pieces of black pudding, with a jug of sauce Hunters chicken, was very dry & very minimum BBQ sauce drizzled over the top, served with salad which was 4 salad leaves & some dressing When visiting the toilets after the meal, I could see the kitchen & if I had seen this before ordering I would not eaten here The gentleman in the kitchen who did bring some of our food out from the kitchen was just wearing Jeans & a T-Shirt & he looked as though he had been doing the cooking, so where is the young talented chef 🤔 Would return for drinks but would defiantly not eat there again

I stayed at the Queens head while I was visiting the area. I really liked the town of Newbiggin by the sea. There is a large public bar and seating area in the Queens Head. The bar offered a very good range of beers, there were two cask ales on. There were bottled beers to choose from to. There was also a good selection of wines and sprits. I dined at the Queens Head and all the food we ate we really enjoyed. The pub was quite busy when when we visted with a good local crowd and some folks visiting. I stayed the night and our room was spacious light and airy. The room and barhroom was spotless. I had a very comfortable and relaxing night and a nice breakfast in the morning. Which is what I needed after a rather strenuous day before. This set me up well for the day ahead which alothough dificult went well. Would look foward to returning again.

I had to come on and update my review after eating Sunday lunch here recently. The chef who cooked for the review below has now left and the dining experience has gone downhill (although the prices have stayed the same). I would no longer recommend eating here. The Sunday lunch we had was very disappointing and to call it mediocre would be generous. July 2022 - Eating here is 1st class and feels like gourmet dining. Having recently moved to Newbiggin I've now tried most things on their menu and each item is superbly presented and tastes divine. It's always my go to when friends are visiting. The staff are welcoming and it's dog friendly. Everything is made from scratch in their kitchens, even the custard!

I went for a group meal 15 of us on Saturday 26th November night. I had creamy garlic mushrooms as starter which were extremely nice not too overpowering but just right. The presentation was very good. Then I had the Lamb dobe with dauphinois potatoes as my main, absolutely gorgeous, the lamb was tender and so tasty, the potatoes just the right amount which complimented the lamb, the vegetables were al dente and tasty which all veg should be like not mushy tasteless like a lot of places. The chef who worked his socks off to feed the 15 of us BY HIMSELF. He is a credit to Queens Head/Porters and he doesn't get the recognition he rightfully deserves. I definitely recommend you visit this place. Very reasonable pricing too, worth every penny.

I visited the hotel only for a night due to a meeting I had to attend the following day in the town. The location of the hotel was perfect just opposite the train station and the person at the reception was very friendly. As I arrived just before 9 pm I questioned if the restaurant was still open in order to have some dinner but they informed me that restaurant closed at 19.30?! I thought it is too early and I had never experienced it in any other hotel. Once I joined the room there was a funny smell coming out from the bathroom and the room was super cold even though the heating was slightly on. Especially inside the bathroom I was freezing so I had to take a shower very quickly and jump inside the bed in order to warm up myself which isn’t very relaxing after hours of travelling. Lastly the following day even though my company’s reservation was breakfast included, in the morning I had been given the choice of complimentary breakfast only which was very very limited. Not even to mention that the check out was 10 am and the cleaners were speaking loudly outside of my room since 9 am stressing me out while just 5 minutes before 10 am I heard them saying “come on people 10 am is the checking out time” which I can definitely say it is not the way any hotel should perform. Overall it was a disappointing visit and I would never come back.

Food good apparently but not really a village pub anymore. Called in for a pint and although there are four hand pumps there are no kegs attached to them so no proper beer. "We don't sell enough to warrant buying it in". So if you're looking for a meal probably ok but if you're wondering about a pint you'll be disappointed. Shame, it used to be good.....
