We had lunch after a highly enjoyable walk round the gardens, and what a pleasure it was. Everything we had was beautifully served and of the highest quality. We were blown away with the service and food quality and all at such competitive prices. We would highly recommend.

Absolutely abysmal experience from start to finish. Visited here on bank holiday and asked for a takeaway coffee and the waiter could not have been ruder!! Disgusting service. Coffee was even worse. The guy looked like he could not be bothered to serve anyone and looked quite angry tbh. Would not recommend and would definitely not re visit. What a waste of money and time!

It was ok but nothing to push the boat out for. My daughter wanted chicken tikka panini but apparently had no tikka, I asked for a sandwich on brown bread cake but they had no brown bread cakes left. Really?? And this was only just after noon. Nothing special about the ham sandwich which all in all tasted bland. The dog ate most of it.

Food was really lovely, but service shambolic. Innovative and appealing menu to choose from. Lovely decor and furniture (particularly upstairs). Delicious smashed avocado on sour dough toast and fabulous pancetta, brie and red onion on sour dough toast. Good coffee, good tea, great herbal tea (lemon and ginger) meant the fare was excellent. Counterbalancing that was shambolic service of the worst order. (Though I need to stress that at all times the staff were cheery and pleasant). We sat upstairs and went down to order and pay. In about 5 minutes the drinks arrived, missing milk for the English tea. One of us went down to report this and was poured some milk to bring back to the table. Then we waited, and waited ,for food. After 33 minutes (verified by the time on the payment receipt) one of us went down to check where our food was, to be told that they had had a rush on. After 40 minutes 2 plates of avocado on toast arrived, but the waitress seemed surprised when informed that the pancetta dish was missing. The avocado dishes were both incomplete too- missing crisps- so we reported that also. 8 minutes later, 2 of our party having almost completed their meal, their crisps arrived, to become their desert as did our third meal. There were minimal apologies for delays. Despite the excessive wait and the the missing order and components the originality of the menu and the delicious food mean I would return and recommend to others, but with the warning to ensure you have plenty of time.

What a disaster! This review gets one star, purely because you can't give it zero. Perhaps there was a clue when we went in, as there were more staff than customers. Little to no effort by the bar staff, one of whome was sat on a stool behind the bar. "If you're wanting to eat just sit at a table and order at the bar" The menu available had little resemblance to what was on the website, just a single sheet of somewhat crumpled paper. Ordering at the bar was like a cripton factor challenge. Two meals, a pint of beer and a soda and lime? Oh no, the young man on the bar couldn't find a button to press for soda and lime, so he offered lemonade? OK, can that be a lemon and lime? Erm, no, still no button to press! Eventually another staff member came to the rescue telling him to press lemonade and then a shot of lime?????? We went for the hand made steak and ale pie, and the beer battered fish and chips. Not sure who's hands made it?! The pie was very small for the £15.50 price tag. Accompanied with barely one serving spoon of mashed potato and less than a spoon of peas. The mash had been very careful manipulated with a pattern to try and throw you off how little there was. The pie crust was very close to being burnt and was so hard it could have had a better role in filling potholes in the road. Within the pie I did find all 4 tiny pieces of steak submerged in a slime that I think was supposed to be gravy. The teaspoon full of extra gravy in a thimble sized jug was pretty tasteless. On the plus side, the peas were OK, ish. The fish and chips were served accompanied with their very own oil slick. It was actually running across the plate. The oil fully soaked a napkin which had to be placed under the tartar sauce pot to stop it doing its own version of dancing on ice! To make matters worse, the oil was putrid, dirty and smelly. The tartar sauce was also sour and inedible. Again not worth the £14.95 price tag. We made our disappointment known to the young man, who simply gave a little giggle as he took the plates away, saying "I'll let chef know". A young lady did then come to apologise for the food and offered a couple of free desserts to compensate. With hindsight, we should have cut and run, probably to Lidl. However, we were persuaded to have the desert. I know, I know, hand made sticky toffee pudding was probably asking for trouble. The other deserts was cheesecake, surely you can't get that wrong? Oh he'll yes!!! The sticky toffee pudding had clearly been nuked by chef Mike (microwave). The toffee sauce was splattered up the sides of the dish. The outside of the pudding was barely warm but was rather tough, a little like foam rubber, and the inside was glowing like Mt Vesuvius. So, you might ask what about the cheesecake? That too had been given to chef Mike!!! Who the hell serves hot cheesecake????? The Plough at Alnwick! This too was brought to the attention of the staff, who's response was, that's how we serve it, don't you like it? I would tell you our response, but I doubt it would clear censorship criteria! What a pitiful disgrace to the catering industry this place is. There is no excuse for lazy, incompetent and inept staff, who have clearly given up. Please put the paying public out of their misery, close the place and turn it into a Tesco express, the quality would be worlds apart.

Popped in for lunch on a day over to Lindisfarne. Despite advertising that they cater for gluten free, a disappointing menu. When I asked at the bar if they do anything gluten free, the barman said that anything gluten free will have GF after it on menu, but they can do any sandwich with gluten free bread. There were no meals suitable on menu, so I went back to bar and asked if their spread was dairy free. Barmaid gives a big sigh and goes to check. Comes back to say yes it is, what do you want- like it was a big inconvenience for her. It’s not my husbands fault that he has allergies. Such attitude makes me wonder how anyone goes back here. Sarnie was ok but they didnt seem to do it separate to normal food as hubby found a bit of grated cheese attached to his bread. If he hadn’t spotted it, he would have been I’ll. overpriced too as the bread was just normal sliced bread. WONT BE GOING BACK!

I came in Baileys of Alnwick for lunch, as I saw some pics taken by a Indian Chef posted in Google map (Looked tempting). I and my friend wanted to try jacket and toastie, As i heard a lot about this place from locals. I was really disappointed by a bald man with glasses who was really racist with costumers and even with his own staffs, I was waiting in line just to order food and all I hear is comments and doesn't knows to take orders at all, Slow service by him. Never coming in to this racist behaviour environment restaurant ever again.

Nice little hotel bar right on the Main Street of Alnwick I had drink several times during our stay in Alnwick. Margaret had the chilli which she said was nice. I wasn’t hungry so had the potato skins which came with a barbecue sauce and garlic mayo, which were ok but out of a bottle.
