Sweet Solstice in Northumberland

Food was really lovely, but service shambolic. Innovative and appealing menu to choose from. Lovely decor and furniture (particularly upstairs). Delicious smashed avocado on sour dough toast and fabulous pancetta, brie and red onion on sour dough toast. Good coffee, good tea, great herbal tea (lemon and ginger) meant the fare was excellent. Counterbalancing that was shambolic service of the worst order. (Though I need to stress that at all times the staff were cheery and pleasant). We sat upstairs and went down to order and pay. In about 5 minutes the drinks arrived, missing milk for the English tea. One of us went down to report this and was poured some milk to bring back to the table. Then we waited, and waited ,for food. After 33 minutes (verified by the time on the payment receipt) one of us went down to check where our food was, to be told that they had had a rush on. After 40 minutes 2 plates of avocado on toast arrived, but the waitress seemed surprised when informed that the pancetta dish was missing. The avocado dishes were both incomplete too- missing crisps- so we reported that also. 8 minutes later, 2 of our party having almost completed their meal, their crisps arrived, to become their desert as did our third meal. There were minimal apologies for delays. Despite the excessive wait and the the missing order and components the originality of the menu and the delicious food mean I would return and recommend to others, but with the warning to ensure you have plenty of time.

Birthday cake made for my daughter was absolutely exceptional. Looked stunning and tasted divine! I 100 percent recommend both the cafe and the cake service.

Really friendly staff and owner. Nice, quick, and yummy brunch served with a smile. Lovely selection of homemade cakes and biscuits too, highly recommend!

I ordered a 21st Cake from Autumn for my son cost £165. Very disappointed as it was nothing like I asked for. The vanilla trier tasted so bad that we had to throw it away. Luckily the choc layer was okay. I have had better I had to cut in tiny pieces to make sure that all the guest got a piece. I notified Autumn a few minutes after receiving the cake. She asked me to sent pics, which I did and that she would refund me the money. I am still waiting. Besides this she has messed me around on the delivery. She was meant to deliver the cake to me on the 24/5/24. I went into her shop to pay my final payment start of May. she then asked me if she could deliver it on the 23rd, which I agreed. As her husband arrange a holiday, which she did not know about. She then called me on the 22nd and said is it still okay to drop the cake that evening. I said that is not what we have arranged. I had a lot to do before his party on the Sat and if I knew I had to pick it up. I would have arranged things differently. She managed to get someone to drop it off on the 24th as per original plan. But when I opened the box there was some damages and it was not like the pictures I showed her. So if you are visiting this shop stay away from the vanilla cakes. If you thinking of ordering a cake don't. I have offered to sent her the pictures of the cake that I wanted and she said that it was fine. She needs to listen more to her customers and not do what she thinks that they want. Now I am forced to put this review on as she is now not responding to any of my texts, whatsapp message or calls. No communication to make this right or deal with my complaint. She sent me 1 text to say that she is busy with other cakes. So I must wait while she is finish before she deals with my complaint. Is that the way she runs a business. She did not take my feedback well. Again is that the way she runs her business. So if you want to pay the money I did and are not bothered of what the cake looks like or taste then she is your person.

Visited here a couple of times whilst staying locally on holiday. Friendly welcoming staff, happy to explain menu options. 2 adults and a toddler in our family group are vegan and there were food options for them. Vegan gelato was out of this world. Oat milk babychino for the little one. Some lovely tea's to try. The hibiscus was very nice, and a good sized pot of it too. Cakes, cookies and scones were fresh and tasty. My fruit scone was fresh from the oven. High chairs and changing facilities for babies, also a buggy park and a kiddies play kitchen in 1 corner. It's also dog friendly here. Would highly recommend.

Such a quirky new cafe that’s very relaxed, spiritual and bohemian in nature with some banging retro music. It’s situated on the Main Street in Alnwick. Popped in for a snack and opted for the Creamed Mushrooms with herbs on toasted brown grain sourdough accompanied by the tastiest side salad. Pleasing to look at let alone taste . Wow perfect. Jovial Staff which is so adorable as most of the venues are full of growling bulldogs .

Pity the cheese scones, (as well you may,) were not up to the standard of the napkins. Shouldn’t be allowed to sell scones that aren’t fresh. Obviously some money spent on place and looks good, but the proof is in the eating, NOT the looks. One and only visit.

A bit disappointing, we had read the reviews and expected more to be honest. Coffee was just ok. Not one we will revisit, sorry.

Great place right in the centre of Alnwick. Dog friendly and with plenty of space to accommodate both people with dogs and people without dogs. Lovely staff, and the quality of the food was excellent. I had the Pancetta with Brie and Red Onion. My wife had the creamed mushrooms on sourdough. All well cooked and served hot. Definitely recommend and we will come back when next in Alnwick. Thank you. A+++

Sweet solstice is a nice little find on the quieter side of Alnwick high street. The cafe is cosy and welcoming, and the menu is something different. They have loads of sweet treats, however we didn’t go for one of those on this visit but the waffles did look good. We went for a mango chai, dirty chai, avocado on sourdough and mushrooms on sourdough. Came to around £20-24. The mango chai was absolutely delicious - I’d definitely order this again. The dirty chai was also nice. There were quite a few other chai options too. The avocado tasted limey (as expected from the menu description) and the salad had lovely dressing. It also came with crisps. Maybe slightly expensive for what you got, but was presented well and I would definitely order it again. The mushrooms were similar, and tasted creamy. Would definitely recommend for light bites. We will be revisiting.
