Lovely selection of cheese but unfortunately let down by an older member of staff touching the cheese without gloves then touching money with the same hand and so on, not hygienic at all and very off-putting.

Nice clean place, well stocked and the cheese was great which took this review to two stars, which was immediately taken back because of the attitude of the owner. They made it perfectly clear that we (the only customers in the joint) were a massive inconvenience, and never stopped reminding us. Food (apart from the superb cheese) was very poor value. I ended up with a sandwich with supermarket sliced bread and suspiciously cheap looking ham, with a handful of crisps, which set me back six pounds. Then the owner (who wouldn’t stop saying how hard done by they were) said they had been “working like a [the very worst racial slur], and that was enough. Calling you out now. Appalling behaviour, and even if you are of ‘that’ generation, the N-word is unacceptable in any context. Yes, we appeared to leave happy, but that was because we are English and polite to a fault. Now that we are at a safe distance, I’m saying it like it is. I’d give zero stars if it were at all possible.

What a terrific little find and a most fabulous hostess. We were travelling with friends, staying not far away. We stumbled across this after having an early morning stroll around the market. Reading the menu in the window we loved the sound of the international combo cheeseboard. Popping in we checked if we could book a table including 3 little dogs and the fabulous owner said of course, took our reservation and asked where we would like to be seated. Walking around we returned slightly early but were accommodated straight away. Knowing we were going for 2 combos each couple placed their order, making personal selection of 4 cheeses each along with choice of olives and a wine preference. The cheeseboard was amazing, included selection of gorgeous meats, pickles ,chutney and sourdough bread (which you could request more of). Amazing atmosphere and service followed by a "mandatory " croud karaoke lyrics courtesy of the shops cheese song! Brilliant afternoon and a big thank you to Marie for the (never to be forgotten) experience. The group haven't stopped talking about it and of course all of the beautiful cheeses we ended up getting and bringing home. We are already making plans to come back ASAP.

. . . he'd fill our fridge with all their cheeses if he had the chance, and often comes home with beautifully packaged paper parcels! Fabulous selection and very accommodating with little 'tasters' . . . a try before you buy! We have paired with a delicious bottle of red which is also available in the shop, together with oatcakes; and taken the same to friends as a present. He'll be back soon . . .

Had sharring platter. Great choice of cheeses and they were all delicious. However, the presentation let it down. Some more fruit and different crackers, apart from just oatcakes, would greatly improve the look and enjoyment of the dish.

Small deli serving lunches freshly prepared. We shared a cheese platter between the two of us, we were able to choose six cheeses. We went for the local Northumberland cheese and we were not disappointed so much so we bought some to take home with us. We also had a good pot of tea too. The staff were chatty and knew their cheese.

I'd give 0 stars if I could. I've never felt so unwelcome in a cafe. Ended up leaving due to hostile service. It says dog friendly but wanted to push our 2 dogs (one is a labrador!) under the table so they are out of the way... that would be fair enough but the we was the only people in the entire cafe & ensured we wasn't sat in the way if anyone did come in! Would not recommend!!

This is a beautiful shop that sells a wide range of cheese, biscuits, chutneys, and what looked like beautiful artisan bread. We ordered a bacon and brie sandwich and 2 coffees. Unfortunately, they served the sandwich on cheap processed bread with a few crips whilst we sat looking at the lovely bread they had for sale. At £5.99 each this was very disappointing. Our coffee was freshly made filter coffee, so no complaints there, Other people arrived and the look of disappointment, when she asked for a cappuccino to be told it was a packet, same if you ordered hot chocolate. Sorry, but this is not what people expect. I agree with the other feedback, stick to a cheese shop.

What a bad advert for friendly Alnwick. The sign in the window said the cafe closed at 3pm. At 2.15pm we went into the empty shop and asked if they were open for a cup of tea. She looked at her watched, tutted and sighed: "Yes." Others came in and their greeting was equally miserable. The cheese scones were very good, but served with a saucer of soggy spread, not butter. No offer of heating them up. You have to go out of your way to find the shop. Don't know if I'd bother . . .

My husband noticed this small place in passing. It is a cheese shop and a very small cafe. We lunched in. I had the Ploughman’s which, unusually, allowed me to pick two cheeses from the large array on display. Husband enjoyed his lunch too. Prices were reasonable. Service was very good. Several locals came in to purchase cheese - always a good sign when locals visit. I enjoyed the cheese so much I bought some to take away. The lady serving was enthusiastic in her support of Northumberland cheese. This will be a definite return visit when we are back in the area.

We have visited this cheese shop several times pre lockdown and we're chuffed to be able to return. The lovely lady who served us has always been so incredibly helpful and cheerful, she really goes out of her way to ensure a great customer experience. We didn't have to ask to try any of the cheeses and her knowledge was excellent. All cheeses were labelled so we knew which they were ( may seem obvious but from experience, this doesn't always happen). Crackers/biscuits were recommended to accompany the cheeses we purchased too. Visit was rounded off by singing a version of Sweet Dreams ( Sweet Cheese) with another couple of customers and of course the lovely lady. Thank you so much! You made our day!

We sat outside in a pleasant open courtyard area. I chose a cheese sandwich, but of course couldn't take my mind up about which cheese to go for. The owner suggested a local nettle cheese with chutney. It raised a humble cheese sarnie to something much higher. Food of the Gods. Mrs B went for a cheese platter, which came with a few grapes and strawberries, which she steadfastly refused to share. She seemed vey happy with her choice, and we were both delighted with out lunch.

I wanted a baguette filled with cheese and chutney, simple! Firstly no baguette or any kind of crusty bread, instead only soft bread or soft buns. Crusty bread and cheddar is a pairing made in heaven (even Greggs do this). As a result of this particular offering, there was no texture sensation, the cheese was randomly cut, so some bites were massive chunks and other bites paper thin. The bread was bland, pappy commercial rubbish. As an establishment that specialises in cheese, one would think they would care about the pairing. I went there and not to Greggs or Costa or CoOp because I thought they might care and want to be more than average. My business mantra is, "Be better or be different", if you can achieve both then you will have a great business. I just think the whole sandwich thing here is done half heartily and without passion. Really sad as it could be a real alternative to the 'average' served in Northumberland.

Whilst the staff in this establishment can't be faulted, smiley and helpful, and rather easy on the eye, their ability to make a ham, cheese and mustard sandwich would produce a sentence from Gordon Ramsey composed entirely of expletives. Not only did they not butter the bread (and didn't ask), they neglected to put any mustard in my ham, cheese and MUSTARD sandwich, skimped on the cheese and cut the ham so thin that I didn't even notice it between the two giant slabs of bread it was drowned between. I am proper cross and shall not be returning. The curse of Alnwick and it's inability to provide a decent light lunch strikes again.

Our introduction to this country pub was to a spacious, comfortable, immaculately clean bedroom, with stunning views of the fells. Next dinner and cooking of Michelin quality. A highlight was the scallop with belly pork, a brilliant dish. Next morning breakfast, again flawless in every respect from the service to the produce. Any prospective dining pub owner/chef should come here to see how it's done.

My partner & I came here on Sunday for a spot of lunch we both had Fish & Chips ( I had salad with mine instead of chips) I have to say the fish was amazing I would say 100 times better than you would get at a fish shop. The staff made us feel so welcome happy smiling faces and we did not have to wait long before our food came I would whole heartily recommend plants plus for lunch
