Popped in for lunch on a day over to Lindisfarne. Despite advertising that they cater for gluten free, a disappointing menu. When I asked at the bar if they do anything gluten free, the barman said that anything gluten free will have GF after it on menu, but they can do any sandwich with gluten free bread. There were no meals suitable on menu, so I went back to bar and asked if their spread was dairy free. Barmaid gives a big sigh and goes to check. Comes back to say yes it is, what do you want- like it was a big inconvenience for her. It’s not my husbands fault that he has allergies. Such attitude makes me wonder how anyone goes back here. Sarnie was ok but they didnt seem to do it separate to normal food as hubby found a bit of grated cheese attached to his bread. If he hadn’t spotted it, he would have been I’ll. overpriced too as the bread was just normal sliced bread. WONT BE GOING BACK!

Went here at 17:00 hours after reading on their own sign outside "Food served all day from 12pm". Turns put food is not served all day, unless all day means til 4pm. Who stops serving food at 4pm? Table was also filthy. Wouldn't bother, go back to the mainland for food.

Sorry but for the price not value for money, the room was small and lacking modern day facilities It's was very clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful. breakfast was good but dinner was below average for the price, The hole place needs a refurb, prices are very high for drinks and food but as you are some what a captive ordinance they think they can change what they like. We won't be coming back to soon.

After a boat trip over from Seahouses, we walked to the castle on a lovely sunny day, had a mooch around the streets and an early lunch before our boat trip back. Good choice if sandwiched and a few other other lute bites on the menu. We chose one each and shared with a portion of fries, a couple of beers a looking out over the castle in the distance. Super beer garden here too. We will definitely return and next time plan to stay over a night or two.

We agree with the previous comments, stating that the food is a rip off. We called in for a bar meal on a Sunday afternoon. We enquired about the availability of crab and when advised that it could be provided, the four of us ordered crab, dill & lemon Mayo on brown hedgehog bread. These came in the form of large rolls, but the crab consisted of a very meagre portion of purely brown meat, which was quite wet. None of us found a trace of white meat. At £13.95 for each sandwich, this amounted to scandalously poor value. The hand cut chips at £5.45 comprised, as noted by a previous reviewer, more bits than chips, some rather blackened through overcooking, most disappointing and vastly overpriced We advised the barmaid of our disappointment, particularly with the crab sandwiches. Her reply, that she would pass on our comments to the chef, indicated a complete lack of concern. Over many years we cannot recall paying so much for so unsatisfactory a meal and we left feeling totally cheated. If you appreciate good food and fair value for money, we recommend that you avoid this place.

A rip off to say the least. Staff have a horrible attitude. The so called chef is rude. If you like lettuce and order a dish with it , you expect it. When you are served your choice without the lettuce and ask....you are told of ...we have run out of lettuce. Not even a sorry or can we get you something else?. Best avoided as the food was served cold.

Not the best!!! We had a lunch here and we were very disappointed. We had a very long wait for the food, and when it arrived it was very poor. 2 of our party of 4 had the Fish and Chips, the fish was poor and the chips were more bits than complete chips. The only positive was that the person working behind the bar and serving the food was very friendly.

We had booked in advance as was advised by the owner of our guest house. We had the window seats with great views out to sea. I ordered a starter to eat as mains which was the steamed mussels with a sour dough wedge of bread at £12.95 which was good but the mussels seemed a little small. Others had the balmoral chicken supreme with black pudding mash, carrots and broccoli at £21.95 which seemed expensive but this looked delicious and tasted delicious. I also had a sticky toffee pudding at £7.95 which was scrumptious.

I only wanted to know what the soup of the day was…. When you ask the server what the soup of the day is, to which she replies ‘I have no idea, the chefs are just making it now’. Do your chefs not know what soup they are making? I then asked how long do you think it will be, to which she replied ‘I don’t know, how long is a piece of string, I have no idea’. A chef then miraculously appears so she asks him what the soup of the day is and he (the chef who was in the kitchen whilst the soup was being made) also has no idea. I was quite concerned at this point…. No soup, but the food was great!

After spending the morning walking around the island of Lindisfarne & visiting the priory, we picked this place at random for some lunch. It said food was served from midday onwards, and we only wanted something light (a sandwich and a drink) so decided it was as good a place as any to stop. The food was delicious, we had the beer battered fish finger sandwich - I had a ciabatta and my husband had the brown option - which appeared to be a hedgehog roll. These were not your average fish fingers they were delicious, thick chunks of fresh fish covered in a crispy batter. There was a side serving of salad and some Dorito crisps, it was a little pricey for what you got but I forgave that for the quality of the fish fingers.

Food served all day !!!! So says the big signs outside. That’s ok then we thought we’ll have a walk round the island visit the castle and eat just before we can get back off as the tide goes out. Entered around 4:30 pm to be told there would be no food until 6pm (when we wanted to leave) as the chefs needed a break. I have no problem with chefs having a break which they fully deserve but please don’t have a great big sign outside saying all day service when you can’t deliver !!! On the positive side it’s a great garden with view, beer was good and the crisps of a good quality 😀

Stopped at MHH after a walk around Lindisfarne. A pint and a roll, opted for the ham, cheese and tomato. £10.50, which I consider to be at the top end price wise. So, I got the roll but no salad garnish, crisps etc which you’d normally expect, certainly at that price. Roll was tasty but value for money was very poor. On the upside, the MHH ale was a decent pint.

The service at this place is the reason I won't return to the Holy Island. We came in for a drink at 7 and were curtly served by a blonde who let us know we were not welcome. We had dinner reservations on a Friday. It was not busy, but the dark haired lady was bustling around like she was run off her feet. As we arrived, someone was getting a refund for something. The table next to us was also grumbling about something. The waitress complained to other patrons about a guest who didn't like the food, then she insulted us using anti-American slurs like we couldn't hear her. She has a very sweet voice but it didn't disguise the daggers in her words. That said, the Indian food was flavorful, but not hot (temperature). There were 3 of us and we asked to split the check. The other 2 didn't get an additional fee, but I did. I know in England VAT is included in the price. There isn't tax, so what was the fee for? She didn't present a bill, so I couldn't see. She just said the total. My guess is either she added a mandatory gratuity because I am an American or she added a fee because I was the only brown skinned person in the group. Whatever the reason for singling me out and charging me more than everyone else, I don't like it, and won't be back. I should get the same rude service at the same price as everyone else.

We had issues with the room. every time the water was turned on you get a frightening laud noise. what made it worst is it happened about 5 times during the night. so you would drop of to sleep and be woken up again. The TV signal didn't work, not that I wanted to watch TV all night, but still. £320. no excuses. the hotel was also cold on arrival. no heating during a coldest day. On a whim my partner suggested we visit Holy Island of Lindisfarne late on Sunday afternoon. After establishing when the tide was due to cover the causeway we went for a wee wander around the town. As tea time was approaching we made one or two enquiries at local eateries. After a not very polite knock back at The Ship Inn we were lucky to book a table at the extremely pleasant Manor Hotel where we enjoyed the Chef's Own Vegetable Curry served with pilau rice, two mini naans and topped with a large poppadom. Although the curry was a smidgeon too hot for our palates we battled on and thoroughly enjoyed it. We then shared a slice of their extremely wonderful melt in the mouth Chocolate Torte (GF) with pouring cream because that's what my partner prefers. Given the choice I would have gone for ice cream but others may prefer custard. But, in fact, this torte was so good it didn't need any accompaniment. Our thanks and heartfelt complements to the chef. Throughout our visit we experienced nothing but wonderful service. The management should be proud of their waiters. We would heartily recommend this eatery and plan to revisit it when next we venture to the island.

Me and my partner went here on Sunday just gone it looked lovely for food and drinks. We queued up for a wait as due to covid there is for most places and we weren't bothered to wait. However there was plenty of space outside and then some, for the four tables worth of people in front of us in the queue. We waited 30 minutes to get to the front of the queue, to then be told they'd be with us in 10 minutes and all this time while waiting we were staring at empty tables that were clear and clean ready for people to be sat down at. On top of this I noticed that the first people sat down as we arrived were still waiting on their food 30minutes later, so in the end we left.Only suggestion for the place if you are extremely busy or understaffed just advise the queue of people waiting of the length of time and then they can make a decision to stay or leave rather than just looking at empty tables wondering what's going on.

The lamb wasn't on the bone as expected and not as soft, but tasty all the same.Next night, we had sirloin steak which came rare and trimmed as asked for- I do think they have an opportunity to up their game and serve fillet as a choice. The fish and chips was large and freshly cooked. I would gave liked a pasta choice, too.All in all, pub food served in a standard way. The location makes it.The staff were really pleasant and worked hard. It has a one way system in place for covid and is cleaned after each use.

We stayed overnight on Valentine's Day two couples two rooms 3 and 6. Room 3 is exceptionally nice. The hotel has recently been renovated. The rooms were nicely decorated clean and all facilities were great, a good tester for me is the shower, and that was hot and powerfulThe staff are probably some of the nicest friendliest people you could hope to meet from initial greeting to farewells. If you are going to book anywhere on holy island then stay here you won't regret it.

Called in for early lunch while on a day visit. Dog friendly. Very busy but people didn’t seem to hang around so we were able to get a table to suit us pretty quick. We had various sandwiches some with soup. Arrived fairly promptly considering all appear fresh made. All in all well satisfied. Staff very friendly. Good place to visit if you’re on the island

We stopped in for a light lunch to see whether to eat here in the evening. We opted for spiced parsnip soup which turned out to be so salty I couldn't drink mine. The staff seem to be unenthusiastic and demoralised. Needless to say we didn't return for supper.

A wonderful two days here, and the Manor House and staff made our experience something we'll remember for a long while.Comfortable beds and complete and utter quiet, what more could you ask for.Lots to do here on Holy Island, and we would happily recommend the Manor Houses's restaurant, The Priory Restaurant was within our price bracket, and the food was very nice. If you're lucky enough to go, don't hesitate.

My wife and I stayed for one night on Saturday, in room 6.My review is in the context of the environment and against other Hotels / B&B’s on the island where we have stayed previously.Staff were great, check in and out were easy. Food, we had lunch and dinner in the bar, crab sandwich was superb. The breakfast, which is available 8 till 9 was excellent; sausage, bacon, poached eggs, black pudding, mushroom & beans with coffee and juice, really good. The room was basic but very warm and comfortable, with a bath and shower. Parking spaces out front was a relief as on street parking can be a challenge! We walked along to Lindisfarne Castle, definitely worth a look, £9 each for adults.Would highly recommend and return here.Well done Manor House.

The staff could not have been more helpful and understanding during our emergency stop. Families and dogs are all welcomed to this cosy hotel. the atmosphere was good as was the food particularly the crab sandwich.

We stopped off here for a lunchtime snack on our walk around the island and were greeted with a warm welcome, great coffee and lovely food. Healthy portion sized (my brother in law had a sandwich that resembled a foot stop and he loved it!)

We came to this establishment for lunch. We wanted crab salad. Traditionally crab salad comes with brown bread. Not at this establishment. They could offer us a crab sandwich on brown bread, white bread or a stottie (appalling). This means that brown bread was in stock. The person behind the bar who took the lunch orders was totally inflexible and was either unwilling or unable to provide two slices of brown bread to accompany our crab salads. Another example of establishments wherein customer service is second to their convenience and profits!!

Had dinner here whilst staying on the island, cannot fault the place in any way, food was excellent, tasty and well prepared, service was prompt and very polite and over all, value for money was great. Definitely worth a visit!

Very expensive morning coffee that was not good quality. Advertising boards said 'Food served all day' apparently all day meant from 12 noon to 8 pm! No breakfast for non-residents.

Having spent a couple of hours ambling round on The Snook after the causeway had been closed until mid-afternoon, we went to look for a drink and perhaps a meal. It was quiet on the island in the early evening and we had looked in to the Crown and Anchor, but quickly decided we didn't fancy eating there (due to the smell of cooking fat and the "Awaiting Inspection" Food Hygiene Rating label on the door, as well as the 'no phones' policy and the overall tatty appearance of the bar.) So we came into the Hotel Bar instead.

No welcome when we came in. Asked for a menu and we were told that food is not served until 12pm, yet the sign outside says good served all day. Very misleading.

It wasn't our first choice for eating, but it was serving food after 2! However the the food that was served for the 4 of us, was first class, I had the fish n chips, the chips were real potatoes and the fish was the best I've had for some time, the batter melted in the mouth, delicious. 4 clean plates. It may not have the most rustic of decor, but none of us could fault the food.

The cafe prices are ludicrous. £3.45 for a toasted tea cake with barely any fruit in it is ridiculous as is a fiver for two cups of tea and £9 for a cooked breakfast!! The staff are not the most pleasant either. Sadly the shop and garden centre prices are way off the scale too compared to most other garden centres. Definitely would not recommend or revisit.

Called in at lunchtime for a couple of drinks. This is the second time but no more. A man, the same on both occasions standing at bar had the foulest loud mouth He was actually talking to the barman and two others Every other word began with "f' He had a dog with him This time he pulled seat out at one of the tables for his dog to sit at Absolutely disgusting. My husband mentioned to barman who grinned and apologised Not good enough

Nice little hotel bar right on the Main Street of Alnwick I had drink several times during our stay in Alnwick. Margaret had the chilli which she said was nice. I wasn’t hungry so had the potato skins which came with a barbecue sauce and garlic mayo, which were ok but out of a bottle.
