Stopped here for a Sunday lunch, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Drinks came straight away, and we didn't have to wait too long for the food. The portions were very generous, and the food was very tasty. It was not very busy so nice and quiet. 2 drinks and 2 big plates of roast beef Sunday dinner came to £38 so value was good 👍.

Found this pub on our first night of 7 in amble in which we went every night for a pint. Staff were amazing. We had 2 dogs Dexter and Milo (the puppy). The staff and customers were first class and the dogs certainty had a fan club towards the end of the week. Will definitely re visit next year. Massive Thank you to all

Had a "trio of meats" Sunday lunch for £18.95 which seemed expensive but I decided to treat myself. The three meats were a bit of chicken with a bone, some beef that was tough and some belly pork made entirely of fat. Frozen vegetables, burnt parsnips and a frozen Yorkshire pudding completed the disaster. Absolutely terrible, this place used to be lovely but it's gone right downhill. We won't be back.

Central location within easy walking distance of the harbour. Great breakfast choices. Lovely food - superb Sunday lunch. Great staff - everyone helpful and friendly. Comfortable room, great tea and coffee, clean. The room was mostly great - the only thing is that the bedroom door just didn't shut easily so had to slam it to close it. Not so bad during the day but felt a bit awkward later at night when other guests would be relaxing. Thanks for a great stay overall!

Been today for Sunday lunch, the carvery is no longer a option, this was beautiful last time we visited so we ordered sunday lunch from menu hoping it would be just as good as I thought £15.95 was expensive for a chicken dinner! I have never been so disappointed to be served a chicken wing frozen Yorkshire pudding frozen peas and frozen parsnips, the creamed leeks were disgusting and the rosemary and sea salt roast potatoes sounded lovely but also were awful! When I paid I told the lady behind bar how disappointed we had been but she never offered any reimbursement we paid over £35 for 2 dinners a blackcurrant and soda and a coffee I feel robbed! I also found out that the pub has changed hands in june I think the new proprietors ought to take a look at their prices well over charging for meals I would grumble at paying £4.00 for the meal we had today!

We visited here while on holiday. 5 adults and 2 children. We pre booked which was easy to do. Plenty of on site parking. There is a set menu of starter and main for £17 and you can add a desert for £5. Kids received and free starter or dessert with a kids main. All the meals were delicious, steady service you weren't felt rushed. Portions were very good. Between us we had the pie and mash, chicken schnitzel, bacon and cheese burger, haddock fishcakes, southern fried chicken burger, kids fish and kids burger. Desserts were amazing too, sticky toffee pudding, salted caramel brownie and cheesecake. All plates were cleared. Highly recommend. 2 starters, 5 adult mains, 2 kids mains, 4 adult desserts, 2 kids deserts, 4 alcoholic drinks and 5 soft drinks came to £139. Excellent. Definitely be back when on holiday again.

This as been such a disappointment tonight and will never even go for a drink in there whilst on holiday in amble

We were also had an extra £1 taken from debit card, without being informed of what this charge was for, we contacted them directly regards this via their website, but we have still not had a response from them at all, poor. Hit and miss, some good some lacking. Visited with friends, 5 lunch meals, rather basic, one steak sandwich, not chewy, one handmade pie, decent size but not homemade, handmade elsewhere? halloumi strips decent portion, one BLT, average, lunchtime fish and chips barely the size of a fish finger, six chips. Drinks okay but on paying found a dash of coke to be extortionate. Two sticky toffee puddings and custard hit the spot but rather expensive for possibly bought in…not homemade. A quiet Saturday afternoon and no atmosphere.

Food very disappointing and underwhelming. Paid £85 and waited @ 45 mins for 6 simple bar meals which would have been ok if all looked like homemade or freshly prepared but all but 1 ( the kfc burger which looked tasty with proper chicken breast) looked and tasted like just warmed up in a microwave and very dry. Lasagne hardly had any meat in it, deep fried hallumi were about 3 strips of soggy batter ( should have taken pics). fish and chips small portion with frozen chips and 3 meals had ordered were asked choice of peas and came with garden peas after we asked for mushy. Also had to call back waitress to ask for cutlery and condiments after food arrived as none were out. No one hardly in place and didn't see anyone else eating on a Sat night and noone came back to ask if everything ok with meals which should have been a sign! Visit Amble regularly as family here and was meant to be my treat for them eating out. ( I should have complained but they didn't want me to cause a fuss as didn't want to spoil an otherwise lovely evening of us all just been together which was main thing) but we definitely won't be returning for food here unfortunately as felt it was poor quality and not value for money. I am not normally a person who would leave a bad review on a business and noticed some of reviews on this establishment were very good? ? but personally just dont like to feel been ripped off which I felt I was on this occasion.

It’s rare for me to slate a business online but this place deserves nothing but the truth ! From the moment we walked into the wellwood pub it was a disappointment. Alarm bells rang when we walked in - the place is just really, shabby, unwelcoming and tired looking. The bar area is dated looking and cramped with the larger end dominated by a massive tv screen. Worn carpets and tired interiors throughout the bed room areas with basic/ budget looking decor. On the only up side the family room we booked was spacious, warm and clean enough ( stained coffee cups not included ) but that’s about all the positive we could say. A bright green light remained on in the room at all times which made for poor sleep on already uncomfortable beds. When we raised this it was dismissed as part of the smoke alarm (?!) I’ve never seen one like it in the inside of a hotel room and it was suggested we could cover it up ourselves - it’s on the ceiling ! The downstairs bar was devoid of any atmosphere, the staff unwelcoming, most of the advertised food menu unavailable and scrubbed off in felt tip on the paper menus. There is certainly no wood fired pizza oven here ! The draught beer was undrinkable and wine unpleasant. Breakfast was passable although hardly a highlight with burnt bread and chopped up mushroom stalks. All in all it was all just a very sad state of affairs and very much not what we expected from the impression/photos on the pub website and the massively overpriced cost of the room at £140 a night. But for having children to consider we would have walked straight back out the door … I would simply want to warn others that this place is a case of false advertising … It is nothing like the stylish gastropub it portrays itself to be and is to be avoided at all costs !Recommending the Italian La Famiglia on the high street and the mobbed Harbour side inn for lovely food and special times we had at both that saved our trip from being a total disaster !

The photographs on this site of the Christmas menu dishes look nothing like the meal we were served. Christmas lunch two courses £24.99, three courses £29.99, were not even worth half of that! Main course - small portion of turkey was not sliced, it was 'pulled', two sprouts on plate, stuffing ball wasn't even the size of a golf ball! Cold peas. Mash could have easily been a packet mix. No presentation whatsoever. No condiments on the tables, you had to ask for them. Very disappointing. Dessert - Christmas pudding arrived with custard on. I was never asked if I wanted custard, usually it is served with brandy sauce or ice cream. The pudding itself was about the size of a small teacup and half an inch thick. For the ones that had the arctic roll, well..... these were served on an oblong plate and I could have sworn one arctic roll was used for all that requested it. Such a tiny portion with a strawberry, might have been half of one, plus a drizzle of something on the plate. The sticky toffee pudding was the only dessert of decent proportions. If anyone had the misfortune to have Christmas lunch there I do hope it was better than this for £85 a head! I hope I never have the misfortune to eat there again, I would have been ashamed to serve any of that meal to anyone.

Dreadful experience. Again. We came for Mothers day and it was awful. We gave it another chance today but once again were completely ddisappointed. The lady sat behind us was a member of staff and we overheard her saying everything is precooked and they just shove it in the microwave. I can confirm that the lukewarm food wasn't even reheated properly. Roasties were so rubbery I struggled to cut them up! The trio of meat was barely a sliver and it seems that even though we arrived and ordered a good 20 minutes before the lady behind us, she got preferential treatment and was served before us!! The Snowy Owl will not be getting anymore chances and we will be sure to spread the word - avoid at all costs!

What a disaster! This review gets one star, purely because you can't give it zero. Perhaps there was a clue when we went in, as there were more staff than customers. Little to no effort by the bar staff, one of whome was sat on a stool behind the bar. "If you're wanting to eat just sit at a table and order at the bar" The menu available had little resemblance to what was on the website, just a single sheet of somewhat crumpled paper. Ordering at the bar was like a cripton factor challenge. Two meals, a pint of beer and a soda and lime? Oh no, the young man on the bar couldn't find a button to press for soda and lime, so he offered lemonade? OK, can that be a lemon and lime? Erm, no, still no button to press! Eventually another staff member came to the rescue telling him to press lemonade and then a shot of lime?????? We went for the hand made steak and ale pie, and the beer battered fish and chips. Not sure who's hands made it?! The pie was very small for the £15.50 price tag. Accompanied with barely one serving spoon of mashed potato and less than a spoon of peas. The mash had been very careful manipulated with a pattern to try and throw you off how little there was. The pie crust was very close to being burnt and was so hard it could have had a better role in filling potholes in the road. Within the pie I did find all 4 tiny pieces of steak submerged in a slime that I think was supposed to be gravy. The teaspoon full of extra gravy in a thimble sized jug was pretty tasteless. On the plus side, the peas were OK, ish. The fish and chips were served accompanied with their very own oil slick. It was actually running across the plate. The oil fully soaked a napkin which had to be placed under the tartar sauce pot to stop it doing its own version of dancing on ice! To make matters worse, the oil was putrid, dirty and smelly. The tartar sauce was also sour and inedible. Again not worth the £14.95 price tag. We made our disappointment known to the young man, who simply gave a little giggle as he took the plates away, saying "I'll let chef know". A young lady did then come to apologise for the food and offered a couple of free desserts to compensate. With hindsight, we should have cut and run, probably to Lidl. However, we were persuaded to have the desert. I know, I know, hand made sticky toffee pudding was probably asking for trouble. The other deserts was cheesecake, surely you can't get that wrong? Oh he'll yes!!! The sticky toffee pudding had clearly been nuked by chef Mike (microwave). The toffee sauce was splattered up the sides of the dish. The outside of the pudding was barely warm but was rather tough, a little like foam rubber, and the inside was glowing like Mt Vesuvius. So, you might ask what about the cheesecake? That too had been given to chef Mike!!! Who the hell serves hot cheesecake????? The Plough at Alnwick! This too was brought to the attention of the staff, who's response was, that's how we serve it, don't you like it? I would tell you our response, but I doubt it would clear censorship criteria! What a pitiful disgrace to the catering industry this place is. There is no excuse for lazy, incompetent and inept staff, who have clearly given up. Please put the paying public out of their misery, close the place and turn it into a Tesco express, the quality would be worlds apart.

Nice little hotel bar right on the Main Street of Alnwick I had drink several times during our stay in Alnwick. Margaret had the chilli which she said was nice. I wasn’t hungry so had the potato skins which came with a barbecue sauce and garlic mayo, which were ok but out of a bottle.
