Visited the Wellwood arms today for Sunday lunch, the standard carvery was about £15 and the large around £18 which isn’t a bad price for a good carvery, was disappointed that everything that make your Sunday dinner was frozen out of a bag, aunt Bessie style Yorkshire’s, frozen roast potatoes, frozen parsnip and stuffing was undercooked and bland wouldn’t have minded if it was a cheap dinner bit for those prices I’d of expected everything home cooked and fresh. On the upside the staff were very friendly and the place was exceptionally clean, just the carvery let it down a bit

The lady serving behind the bar was very friendly, attentive and looked after us really well, the food was really nice. We had the steak pie and the lamb rump and both were very nice. A good pint of Guinness and the dog was pampered with treats, a very good experience!

We ate here twice, once for n evening meal and the other for Sunday lunch. The evening meal was pretty ordinary for us both. The Sunday lunch sadly was the same. The roast beef was woefully overcooked for the lunch, so much so it just crumbled, and the chips for the evening were amongst the blandest I've ever eaten. The experience was a big let down for us as we ate here a few years ago and it was a treat, hence going back. I'm not sure we would visit again based on the last one. No issues with the staff as all were friendly and polite, just a shame about the food.

What can I say. Absolutely wonderful place to stay. The staff are really friendly and will do anything they can to help you out. A special shout out to the young lady that was starting working in the restaurant of the morning of my breakfast. Although she appeared a little nervous, she did our absolute best to make sure my breakfast was an enjoyable meal. The breakfast was lovely. I had a main meal in the bar at night. I had lasagna and it was an absolutely gorgeous meal. I will return to this pub again. The prices are normal prices for the area and the location is quite close to the town centre. I managed to park the van in the car park easily and did notice that there was plenty of room throughout the day. Looking forward to my next trip already. Thanks again. Cheers Mark.

Prosecco was offered on arrival but no alternative offered to those driving. The table was set incorrectly with the knives facing the wrong was and dessert cutlery set wrongly. My soup was very average and under seasoned. Turkey was nice but let down by the frozen roast potatoes , frozen Yorkshire pudding and frozen stuffing ball. Shredded sprouts with bacon which was as not in the slightest crispy. The parsnips appeared to have been deep fried and were uncooked in the middle. Christmas pud was lovely. Lots of plates from other tables seemed to be heading back into the kitchen with roasties and parsnips still on them. The waiting staff were nice but obviously new to the hospitality industry. All in all an average Sunday lunch . Definitely not worth £85 . Won’t be back unfortunately

Had a "trio of meats" Sunday lunch for £18.95 which seemed expensive but I decided to treat myself. The three meats were a bit of chicken with a bone, some beef that was tough and some belly pork made entirely of fat. Been today for Sunday lunch, the carvery is no longer a option, this was beautiful last time we visited so we ordered sunday lunch from menu hoping it would be just as good as I thought £15.95 was expensive for a chicken dinner! I have never been so disappointed to be served a chicken wing frozen Yorkshire pudding frozen peas and frozen parsnips, the creamed leeks were disgusting and the rosemary and sea salt roast potatoes sounded lovely but also were awful! When I paid I told the lady behind bar how disappointed we had been but she never offered any reimbursement we paid over £35 for 2 dinners a blackcurrant and soda and a coffee I feel robbed! I also found out that the pub has changed hands in june I think the new proprietors ought to take a look at their prices well over charging for meals I would grumble at paying £4.00 for the meal we had today!

Visited with friends, 5 lunch meals, rather basic, one steak sandwich, not chewy, one handmade pie, decent size but not homemade, handmade elsewhere? halloumi strips decent portion, one BLT, average, lunchtime fish and chips barely the size of a fish finger, six chips. Drinks okay but on paying found a dash of coke to be extortionate. Two sticky toffee puddings and custard hit the spot but rather expensive for possibly bought in…not homemade. Stayed in a nearby cottage and stopped off at the Oak Inn for a bar meal on our first evening. Everyone was very friendly, there was a nice atmosphere and the food was tasty and well priced.

Room very tired paper peeling off walls. Shower pressure very weak. Sunday roast very poor and only lukewarm, beef very rare not to everyone's liking. Breakfast nothing to write home about. Lack of food, crockery and coffee machine kept breaking down.
