Nice welcoming staff. Good range of drinks . Food tasty and very good value for money. The decor is a bit tired but the good food and atmosphere outweighs this. Looks like the new owners are working at gradually improving its looks but making their priority good food, good drink, friendly atmosphere.

A tour around the NE saw a visit to Alnwick. After visiting the gorgeous castle and refusing to pay ridiculous monies for the gardens, we stopped here for a lager and lunch. The hosts were very friendly (only had the pub 2 weeks) and were finding their feet but to no detriment to the customers. My husband and I shared the cheese and onion pie, chips and beans. I am not a chip fan but damn they were the best I’ve had in years and the pie was old school gorgeous. Look past the decor and you will appreciate the simple but honest pub. The very best of luck to the Fleece team and hope you go from strength to strength.

On the main road in Alnwick. Still got the feel of a traditional pub, which is a good thing. Good beer, I had an excellent pint of Wainwright, my wife an orange gin a tonic. The food was excellent as were the staff and we enjoyed meeting and talking to the locals.

Pint was alright. Pub looks like it needs a bit of refurbishment, lick of paint etc. Food looked to be quite expensive for what it was compared to elsewhere so we gave it a miss. We left early when we saw a barmaid vaping inside, as my wife is pregnant and I didn’t want her breathing it in.

I have been a regular 'Friday night is karaoke night' attendee for many years with John Bailey expertly providing the music. A good atmosphere on that evening but can't comment about any other days as I attend only on karaoke Friday nights. The price of drinks could be more competitively priced and the landlord a little more amicable. Overall, a non pretentious place to down a pint or two and sing your heart out on a Friday night.(Here's hoping that when lock down is over, the karaoke session will return.

Given that pubs & restaurants are supposed to be desperate for business, coming to this establishment was a shock. No warm welcome, barman almost rude in fact. Asked for the menu, he pointed to a soggy A4 sheet of paper on which was written (with terrible grammar which I can't bear - baked potato's!! ) My friend and I ordered two of the baked potatoes only to be presented with 2 potatoes in soup bowls (!) mine's swimming in butter. I managed to eat the top layer of prawns but left the butter lake. When rude barman came to collect dishes, without talking, I mentioned that I couldn't eat the majority of my meal. He said nothing. When I went to the bar to pay, no apology, no discount for a disgusting meal. Quite frankly, he couldn't give a monkeys. Please don't go to this pub. They don't deserve our business and give Alnwick a bad name.

Having just moved to the area we have visited this pub every week for a few months to attend the quiz. Recently visited for a game of pool on a weekday and were shouted at by the bar lady for making too much noise and distracting her from her conversation with the only other customer. Made to feel unwelcome for no reason, won’t be visiting again.

I’d rate it 0 stars if I could, me and my boyfriend have been coming here on the regular, usually to play pool or for the quiz, the guy that works there is alright but we went in on a Tuesday night for a pint and a game of pool. Literally just me, him and another customer in the pub. We was in the pool room having a game of pool and a joke, having a bit of a laugh between us , the woman behind the bar pops her head around the corner asking us to keep it down and to stop “arguing”, I tried to explain that we’re just having a joke, a bit of back and forth, winding each other up. She said that we shouldn’t be making noise because she can’t hear her conversation with the only other customer in the bar in which I began to get frustrated as we weren’t making an unreasonable amount of noise. She then came back round to start an argument where I told her we were paying customers and we’re surely allowed to have a conversation? Why are you sat at the other side of the bar listening to your customers conversations? There was no aggressive behaviour, no swearing, nothing, just a couple playing pool and joking about the fact that I am not good at making pies. I will never be returning my to this pub, this is my FIRST encounter of meeting this woman who works behind the bar, and after her listening into our conversation and making very rude remarks and making us feel extremely uncomfortable, I will honestly recommend DO NOT go into this pub. NOT FRIENDLY. RUDE STAFF. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. Also, I’m not being funny but it’s really shabby, very old fashioned, over priced for the type of pub and very DEAD. Unless you’re a local visiter, you’re not going to feel welcome. As soon as you walk in, heads turn.

We've been visiting Alnwick for several years & always head for the Fleece as the beer is very good & the people watching is always entertaining. Without being rude we find the landlord about 5% Basil Fawlty'ish. He's both courteous & curt at the same time. When someone asked if his wife could have a child's meal (yes of course) & then went on to order something from the main menu as he thought it would just be downsized to a child's portion! the ensuing fracas was comedy gold. A couple of years ago we found the food had gone down hill a bit - so we haven't eaten their since. However, what came out of the kitchen recently looked good & most seemed to complement it. It's honest fare well priced. We would have tried it but for unknown reasons they stopped serving food for a few days (and this kind of sums the place up). But we love it.

Home made lasagna, steak pie ( not in a dish with pastry over but a proper slice) . Served with chips and salad, or potato’s and veg. A huge portion on every plate and really good value. Lovely choice on the boards. Would certainly recommend if you want good value bar meals. All home cooked

My husband and I visited the Alnwick garden yesterday. It was clear but very cold outside. We chose the Fleece Inn for lunch and were so happy when we walked in as it was very warm and cozy. Around the corner much to my delight was a lovely fireplace that was lit and supplying wonderful heat. Ok, enough on the weather and garden and fireplace. The service was attentive but in a quiet way. We had our first Stottie of our trip to England. Pretty much a hot roast beef and gravy sandwich. As we understand it is the bread that makes it a Stottie and not the filling. It came with a side of chips. A meal that was definitely comfort food on a cold day. Combined with a pint of beer to share and we were happy campers.

I was surprised how difficult it is to find anywhere to eat at lunchtime in Alnwick. We wanted a nice traditional pub, but the first 2 we tried were closed and the next was a hotel, so getting ever colder and wetter we went to the Fleece.I had chicken curry - the sauce tasted quite nice, but the chicken was rubbery and the chips bland. My husband, however, said that his cheese pie was one of the best he's had. But when I went to the Ladies I wished we hadn't gone to this pub. To say the toilets were disgusting is an understatement. Popped in by chance on an evening walk round Alnwick while looking for somewhere to eat and informed that we were just in time as there was a quiz on at 7.30pm. I ordered scampi and chips for £8.99 and it was quite a decent size when it came out, so much that I sadly had to leave some.We did get asked if we could swap tables after we had eaten as there was a quiz starting which seemed reasonable enough as there were many groups taking part, however we had to take our two stools with us therefore meaning only a couple could sit at the table we originally had (and no one did) which rather defeated the purpose of moving. However this did not spoil things for us, we came 2nd last in the quiz and had the novelty of winning the 'floating fiver', we had a great time and laughed and scratched our heads thoughtfully (neither of us being good with pub trivia) throughout. I would really like to go back to Alnwick for another walk and ideally would schedule in a pub quiz and at The Fleece Inn.

Everyone in the group was pleased with the food, and I would say that the quality of the meals was very good indeed, with particular mention for the salmon off the special's board, and the salads. Portion sizes were very generous for main courses and desserts. They also did good value kids meals - these were a lot more basic than the lovely, home cooked adult meals, but the kids were happy enough.Service was very slow - for drinks and food. As we hadn't booked, and it was bank holiday weekend, then we couldn't complain, although the pub itself wasn't particularly busy. Had the service been a bit quicker (particularly for drinks at the bar - I really don't mind waiting for good food, and it was good, but waiting over 10 minutes to be able to order a drink at a bar seems a bit much), and a bit friendlier from the landlord (I think), then I would have rated it 4 or 5 stars, but unfortunately the service wasn't as good as the food itself. However, I would return for lovely food, with a good choice, and generous portions.

Went here with the intention of getting some sandwiches and coffee's only to be refused service because the table we sat around was too small. Working in the service industry I know that you always try your best for the customer but the sultry fella behind the bar didn't subscribe to that ethos. A lovely couple offered up their table but I wasn't prepared to ruin someone's meal just because of this twonks inability to reach a compromise. Thus we left and in doing so the fleece inn lost about 70 quid in trade.

Looking for somewhere to eat on Easter Monday, perhaps we should have realised when we were virtually the only ones in the pub. Pub food distinctly mediocre - think more school dinners (kept warm for an eternity) than gastropub. Decor needs a revamp - hand-dryer in the toilets was more than half completely covered in rust.

As tourists from Glasgow, we stopped off in Alnwick and browsed the shopping area. We popped into The Fleece Inn for dinner shortly after it's 6.00 evening opening time. As such it was still quiet, with only a few patrons. The welcoming open fire was raging in the lounge (a real plus point for us), so we sat there after ordering our food at the bar. The service was friendly and polite. My lasagne was lovely, and a good sized portion. My wife had the curry, rice and chips and loved it. We had earlier spotted a couple of tempting dessert dishes on the menu, and had hoped to savour them later. However, we were so full after our meal that we couldn't eat a dessert!I'd certainly revisit the Fleece Inn, if I ever return to Alnwick.

Came here twice when staying in alnwick, great beer and wine in a traditional friendly pub, much better than the more expensive aloof prentious Plough up the road

New Year's Day lunch at the Fleece in Alnwick was the worst meal we have experienced. We ordered the daily special of battered fish with chips and peas. Tea was included, however it was not very palatable. The food was hot, and that was the only good point. The fish, apart from being processed, was a greasy grey mass which certainly did not resemble the cod we were expecting. The peas, frozen of course, were like bullets. The price was not the most expensive we have paid for fish and chips, but it was a terrible waste of good money for appalling fare.

A very friendly pub with a good selection of real beers and just a couple of doors down from where we were staying at The Georgian Guest House. What could be better! There was a good selection on the menu and all that we sampled was delicious.

Ordered food, yep tinned veg and I hope the don't pay the chef much because my 15yo son could do better, and does this bloke know there are kids born into this world with no arms and legs? What has he got to be so miserable about!

Popped in for Sunday lunch. Was nothing out of the ordinary, veg appears tinned/frozen but it was ok. Dessert (hot chocolate fudge cake), portion was large, went down very well. Would eat there again but maybe have something different. Prices very reasonable though.

Lovely place great staff. We had sandwiches but was asked if we would like salad or crisps or coleslaw with them . Everywhere I’ve been to offers you all 3! Especially at £12 per sandwich. Too expensive.

This cafe in Hexham has a great atmosphere for a supermarket cafe. The staff are friendly and the food is great.
