Becoming our local after our move to Morpeth

Been in here twice this week for lunch. Food was good, not expensive and the staff are friendly. Can’t comment for the evening but for lunch time food is was perfect.

Excellent food friendly nice bar staff had the best time on my visits over the weekend our dog loved her treats so looking forward to next visit so worthy of 5 stars across the board 😬

Food was shocking I had the Gammon and eggs peas were solid egg just as hard so sent it back took 20 mins to get replaced egg was so undercooked had to send it back I got told it was cooked no mate it wasn't... my sin got the pizza that was half like had been in microwave way to long... got refund bit will never return

Just had drinks but great place to visit

Good was okay but nothing special. The pie I had contained very little actual meat (probably in total not even as much as one cube of beef you'd get from one of those packs you get). Nice that it came with gravy but come on. Staff were pleasant and the place isn't pretending to be a fancy gastro pub but a pretty much meatless pie isn't a good way to invite follow-up visits.

Popped in there saturday. Great atmosphere. Nice outdoor area. Not many people at the time. Chap that served us very cheerful. Prices ok. Its got the look and feel of the way bars were back in the day. More places should be like this. Also a great selection of photos on the wall depicting Morpeth in days gone be. Well worth a visit. We go to Morpeth on a fairly regular basis for the day. Will make the black bull one of our stop offs

Most of the bar staff were rude and not friendly, they don’t serve fairly who is there first and mostly served the top end of the bar. When my partner spoke politely to the manager name possibly Ali stating he had been there a long time she told him to pipe down. Music was great but unfortunately the service was awful and I would not give this pub another penny. Manners cost nothing and either does a smile.

A Long wait for our food order... the whole area pub restaurant needs refurbishments badly ( seats were torn and dirty as well as the food rubbish floor.

Place is becoming run down, toilet cubicles were smashed in , wallpaper hanging of walls on the stairs, very quiet for a Saturday night, and the bar staff don't watch who has been waiting and just serve closest person even if they just walked in and you've been stood for 10 mins, so sad as this used to be a great place to drink

Great BLT sandwich and chips today . Love this pub , hope it stays open 😀 haven't been for a while and nice to see it still popular and a nice local to pop into .

Stopped in for a quick lunch - fried chicken burger was large, and particularly good. I don't expect much from a fried chicken burger and was pleasantly surprised

Very good atmosphere. I had a veggie burger, it was ok.

Went for evening meal with friends. I asked for a veggie burger and was astounded and confused when the very young staff member asked me is I wanted it with extra chicken bites or beef. !!!!! I asked “ why would I want chicken or beef with a veggie burger and she took major offense to my question then shoved the card machine at me to pay. Very poor service and attitude from a clearly untrained staff member. Will never eat there again

Would definitely come here again, the food was delicious, we didn’t have to wait long and it’s also dog friendly! The customer service was a 20/10 and the staff were so lovely.

Had the roast beef Sunday lunch. Roast vegetables and potatoes not roasted enough.

Food was nice, but went in today as they advertise on their windows and doors that they show TNT Sports…I asked a chap if he could put on the football for me as ITV was on…he said “I think we are only allowed to show rugby” then told me to ask the girl with red hair dye. She then said she didn’t know how to turn it on and would see if she could “figure it out”…I’m pretty sure she didn’t try. Why advertise that you do something and when a customer asks for it specifically, you don’t do it. A shame.

No cask ale on so had a pint of craft beer, 6.50 a pint and not very nice, would not bother going back

You will not be let down if you eat here, and if you have dogs they are welcome

We regularly go and love the place, food is very good quality and reasonably priced. There is a scottish guy there who is lush too.

Appreciated the effort to make things right, sometimes it's not always about errors as things happen but how you deal with them. Staff are friendly, food is reasonably priced and tasty.

Stopped off on the way up to alnwick, the staff were really friendly and attentive. We had the fried chicken platter and the chicken burger, both were really good and had big portions for the price. The decor is cool and it has a relaxed vibe. Would definitely recommend and we will go back.

Only 3 staff on that Saturday night that I could see, but they did their best bless um. Was a good place to start the night in Morpeth.

Had a lovely lunch meal here with a mixed family group. Staff were very friendly and attentive. It is dog friendly and our pooches were made a fuss of, water and treats before we even sat down. Lunch menu has lots of variety, the chef was really great at sorting out gluten free options or possible substitutions. Child menu was Great value and had a HUGE portion. Enjoyed our skewers and would look forward to coming back.

Had a Chicken and Chips with curry sauce for £9.95 and i recieved a half breast of chicken about 10 chips and a tiny curry sauce. For £10 it wasn't value for money at all,should at least had a full chicken breast min.

Shocking experience today. I took my old parents for a light lunch and we ordered 3 small dishes. The menu clearly says to the small appetites “add an alcoholic drink for £2.50” and “add a drink for £1.50”. We ordered two beers and a soft drink with our meals and were charged £11.70 for the beers and £2.85 for the soft drink. When i questioned it I was told that i should have mentioned that i meant to order the drinks as part of the small meal. I mean really?? The manner of the staff was rude, disrespectful and absolutely unprofessional. I rarely write reviews and especially don’t like to write bad ones but this place is a disgrace. Making mistakes is one thing, but thinking the guest is a fool and make them feel like one is another. Spend your money elsewhere folks. There are many lovely places in Morpeth. This certainly isn’t one.

A real nice place would come again

Felt like I had been made a fool of, we called in for a bite to eat and decided to have a light meal, I noticed that the price was £2-50 to add an alcoholic drink on, so decided to have a Malibu and on being served was asked if I wanted to make it doubles, as Malibu isn't the strongest drink ( had asked for Pernod but dosnt sell it) I agreed to the doubles, now the meals were £7.95 each and the bill came to £31'00 a difference of £15-10, I thought the double would have maybe cost another £1 or £2 extra but on quering the bill I was told it was select drinks only, which dosnt tell you that on the menu you have to turn to the back of menu under pudding to read that information I.e a bottle of beer or a small glass of wine for the extra £2-50, so I feel as though it was not made clear on choosing off the menu, Caught out again by misleading information on menus Now I can't fault the food it was very tasty but if I'd had a pudding the staff would have turned the cream sour with there miserable faces, could be why the pub was empty. to read thst

Service was a bit slow today, and the place was quiet

A lazy Sunday afternoon in Morpeth to meet up with a friend of a friend to celebrate her birthday, and The Black Bull was the nominated meeting place. The original plan had been to go and eat elsewhere after a couple of drinks but I was comfortable and settled and I’d taken a liking to The Black Bull and opted that we stay put. The only downside was you’ve obviously got to hurry up and get your Sunday dinner orders in as The Black Bull is clearly a popular venue and they can run out of stock fast, and unfortunately all three of us just missed out on the three meats specials, I completely blame the girls here for faffing about and being so indecisive. The staff couldn’t have been more genuinely apologetic that we’d just missed out, but our alternative choices off their menu were all spot on, I certainly enjoyed my meal and that was all that matters. I opted for bangers and mash with extra pigs in blankets, I’ll be back one of these Sundays for that three meats Sunday dinner that I’d only just missed out on. Happy to recommend The Black Bull, it’s a lovely pub with friendly staff that does decent food.

It's a nice place to have a drink and the staff behind the bar are friendly. We had the 5 plates for £25 and found it a bit hit and miss. There were no side plates given so it was akward to eat. The bar was busy otherwise I'd have asked if they can provide some. The dirty fries consisted of a small portion of chips with ketchup, american mustard and a sprinkling of spring onion. I'd call this "chips with condiments" rather than "dirty fries". We also got the sausage and mash for our son which was like warm and the sausages seemed like they'd been cooked and left for quite a while. The cripsy beef, bau buns and wings weren't bad. It may have been because they were busy but I'd say this is a place to drink but I'd probably eat elsewhere.

ordered meals and waited 45 minutes, asked manager on shift as to how much longer, was told he did not know. Due to needing to be elsewhere by a certain time, we asked for a refund of food and drink that we never received and was told they would process it. It has been 3 weeks and have not heard from them or received refund.

Absolutely shocking service yet again for food. This was the 3rd attempt at trying food here in the last 4 weeks. The first 2 weekends in a row we were told the kitchen was backed up and no food was on for atleast another hour or more. The pub had barely any people in on both occasions. Today we thought we would give it one last chance and the service from start to finish was a joke. The girl behind the bar didn't have any idea how to key in 3 beef sandwiches and had to go to the kitchen to ask how. They then struggled to key in vanilla ice cream and again had to go to the kitchen to ask how to do it. When she recapped the order back to me it was still wrong with items added I didn't even ask for. We then waited nearly an hour to be told the food we ordered had been keyed in wrong and what we actually wanted wasn't ready. So nearly an hour before anyone even checked what was going on. If we hadn't chased them up, they would have let us wait even longer. In summary, 2 trips to the kitchen, wrong items keyed in twice and an hour wait for it still to be done incorrectly. 2 previous visits where the kitchen wasn't even taking food orders. Avoid this place at all costs if you want food or any kind of decent service.

Friendly town pub with good food and good ale.

First visit and won't be our last. Ale was lovely and the food looked reasonably priced so will try next time. Staff very friendly. Up market place with gorgeous surroundings.

Today we had a Sunday dinner for 2 Sunday lunches and 2 soda water with orange cordial it cost me £31 ‼️ we had been on a long walk and were starving the meal came no presentation at all there was no green veg it was all beige parsnips lots of them about 4 carrot 2 roast spuds 1 Yorkshire pudding we chose the 3 meats . Where do i start ... I swapped my Yorkshire with my husband's as mine was burnt but mine turned out to be so hatf couldn't even cut it the dinner was swimming in gravy the turkey was very salty the beef we both cut up for the dog it was definitely un chewable and the gammon was the fatiest piece I've ever had the dog also got that . Yes I did complain and was refunded albeit £4 short ... they said its the 1st complaint today it was about 3-30pm and I reckon we were given what was left or that other people didn't have the guts to complain. I have eaten much better for much less our meals were £13 and pennies each you really do expect quality when your paying . I could be completely wrong and the food is excellent but I'll never know as I won't eat here again

Red bull vodka tasted of carling, place was alright but full of plant pots, sitting round doing photosynthesis, heard there getting a UV light section installed for the regular sunflowers. Wouldn’t recommend if you have craic and some credibility.

Never have I been so disrespected by a bar. How in the world does wearing a hoodie automatically make you a criminal. I can only assume the end goal here is to make no money. Boycott at all costs.

I have never been ridiculed, stereotyped, embarrassed and downright disrespected as I have when I came here, claimed I couldn’t be served as I had a hood on my jacket just to put it back on after I’d been served, avoid at all costs.

The Bull is a decent pub for food and drink. The food menu isn’t big, but everything we have tried has been really good. The pub is also clean and comfortable.

Disappointing that none of the three staff we saw could pop to shops to get milk. We ordered two coffees but then were told that the bar had none left at 1pm. Three members of staff apologised and refunded cost of two coffees. Apparently it will be credited to my account in 24 -48 hours. With so many pubs struggling, I found it incredible that none could find time when bar was very quiet to go get some milk. Shops selling milk within 2 mins walk. I would have thought that businesses would be doing all they can to make a few pounds. Staff are always friendly and polite but really lost for words that such a simple thing could not have been fixed. We even offered to go to shops ourselves. Had bar been busy or if only one staff member on duty it could be explained but no one at bar amd in end all three staff members were behind till serving me.

Several people recommended this place including our taxi driver on the way to Morpeth. We only came in for drinks but had a good craic with the bar staff that served us. We had a good time and would certainly return. Bad spelling mistake on the sign upstairs which made us laugh (see photo).

Delicious Sunday roast. The staff were excellent at accommodating the menu to my gluten intolerance and were lovely and very helpful with our todler.

When you order a burger you expect it to be cooked and virtually fat free when on the bun Chios everything else great by a fat soaked bun no thanks

A pub on the main street in Morpeth, have been in a few times now on an afternoon, never too busy so there is always a lot of choice for tables. They do serve food but haven't ever tried it.

Went there after a funeral, never been here at all before this.The buffet was tremendous,and the staff were superb.The place was spotless and the bar meals looked good too.No one had a bad word to say.Looking forward to calling back.

Went for lunch as a family of 3 and found the Black Bull to have a great menu, friendly atmosphere and would definitely recommend. 2 of us had the halloumi burger which was lovely with some tasty chips and husband had the chicken platter which I was told was very tasty also. Great place for a lunch bite. Definitely recommend, the staff we chatted to were really friendly. Great place, good value for money.

Four of us are vegan and we were really well looked after us. They really cared about getting it right. The food was lovely when it came & the service was exceptional. Lovely decor & comfortable seating. We really enjoyed our visit & they even offered dog treats for our pouch too!

A great dog friendly pub in the heart of Morpeth. Good food at reasonable prices and a good range of beers. Very friendly staff who even brought a bowl of water and some treats for the dog, without me having to ask. Highly recommended hostelry.

A lovely location on our way back from Scotland. I had a Delicious double cheese burger, and proper thick cut tasty Chips. The staff were so accommodating and warm, and the pub itself is very cosy with a delightful walled back garden area. Highly recommend this place.
