The best restaurants in County Durham North East

We loved the bar and the service but found that the food was expensive and disappointing. I paid £16.95 for bratwurst and chips plus £2.95 for a tiny jug of awful runny curry sauce. My wife's game terrine was bland and not 5 star gastro pub presented. Gluten free bread was served which is great but it wasn't toasted. The server refunded this item thank you.

Perfect for a nice quiet drink, great service and lovely little place for a drink on the way home. Ended up being 3 drinks as we liked it so much. Definitely go back when next visiting.

We were let down for boxing day, but Sals managed to fit 14 of us in at a busy time of year. Everything was lovely, from the table to the food, to the service. Such friendly accommodating staff. The whole experience was fab and would highly recommend, also save a fortune on drinks, as it is Bring your own😃

Cold food not a patch on original business

Nice food, average price. Took a while to collect our food but it was a Saturday night. Overall would recommend as a tasty take away in the village of Stanhope.

Great food tonight! We had a few different selections and they were all very good. Always good when the salad is fresh and crunchy. Ordered online and it was ready in the time specified. The shop was immaculate when we collected and the staff friendly.

Disappointing ordered a mixed grill for 20 quid portion size is shocking I don't recommend A few pieces of meat and a small salad We have ordered similar things from different places and this has got to be the stingiest portion I've seen in my life After eating the food both my husband and I are now feeling sick just aswell the portion was small or it would be worse I'm incredibly upset Worst takeaway experience ever

Simply put the best fish & chips I’ve had in my almost 60 years. Perhaps it’s down to the unique coal fired fryers of the dripping it’s cooked in but 10/10 .

Brilliant choice of beers and spirits! Friendly landlord who made us feel very welcome. The homemade pizza was excellent, a lovely village pub with the a beautiful beer garden
