Excellent food and great service all round

A pub that doesn't serve beer on a Sunday without ordering food. Joke.

Great bar feel , warm welcome girls really friendly. Spot on old school bar with a twist.

Best pub in the village and always has been, even when Crinnions was in business. Excellent beer, great atmosphere and good prices. Sunday lunch is exceptional value and they offer takeout.

Only popped in for a pint of Guinness but served Murphys which tasted just as good, my son said it was better. The bar manager/owner gave a great description of the differences between various stout. I will pop in again definitely. Did not have any food, so cannot comment.

Proper pub, friendly enough and no frills so you can relax a bit and enjoy a pint or three. Pretty good atmosphere meant we enjoyed a good night in here 👍

Great little pub in the heart of Lanchester, friendly service & good selection of ales or anything else you fancy. Proper olde pub feel with friendly locals and bar staff, bustling atmosphere and I’ve heard they do a cracking Sunday dinner. Only stayed for one as unfortunately dogs aren’t allowed indoors, but there’s an ample beer garden so will return in the warmer months.

First time at the Black Bull for Sunday lunch .... Not disappointed! 1 beef, 1 pork, you get plenty of everything, cabbage, carrots, peas, mashed turnip, mashed potatoes, cauliflower, roast potatoes, good old Yorkshire pudding and real meat that was cooked to perfection, not the sliced processed plastic we've received elsewhere, lots of tasty gravy too, all for just £10.99 each. The staff were lovely and friendly, with table service and a cosy atmosphere. Thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely be going again in the future.

Booked for a Sunday lunch ,there were lashings of tender roast beef, loads of fresh veggies, Roasties, giant Yorkie pud and a huge gravey boat. Best Sunday dinner in a long while. Staff were friendly and attentive. Might be the first time I've been there, but it certainly won't be the last 😋

Proper village pub with really friendly bar staff. As a real ale drinker, it was nice to have a perfect hand pulled pint of Wainwright's. Will definitely be back.

Edit: I apologise, I've transposed my own experiences of the pub which I used to work in and drawn parallels to yours during the small snapshot of time I was there, that's unfair of me. I'm glad to hear things aren't as bad as I surmised in my review, I appreciate your candor about the situation with your competition, We much preferred, and spent more time in the Black Bull than Crinnians when we visited recently and I put that down to the authenticity of your pub. I would love to come back with my family for lunch one Sunday soon to see the garden and try a few of more of your ales. Thanks for getting back to me. The beer was good as was the pool table, but the pub looks very tired and is in need of sprucing up, especially the gents toilets. When I was there at 8pm on a Saturday, there were 4 people in the bar, and 3 didn't stay long. It's a shame as it reminded me of the pub I used to work in, the potential is there. This is my first visit to the area but I think that Crinnians up the road are in danger of depleting the Black Bull's business, which is sad because a village needs more than just one successful pub. I recommend this pub, especially to the locals, for their support, if you don't use it you will lose it!

Second pub in lanchester tried , I preferred this one over the Kings head, traditional pub sat outside in the sunshine, reasonable selection of beers and the staff were very friendly.

Had Sunday lunch today with family members. Everyone thought it was lovely and also very reasonably priced.

Bobbed in for a drink a few evenings whilst in the area. Saw 3 different bar staff and found all to be pleasant and friendly. Open plan with pool/darts etc. Enjoyed our drinks. Sorry we weren't able to sample their Sunday roast as we arrived too late.

Found this last time we we here camping on a local farm . 49 min walk with the dog , best Sunday dinner for ages , beef was fantastic ( I’m fussy about my beef ) staff very friendly service great and to top it off ….. brown ale !!! Dog welcome in the beer garden , will be back .

One of the best Sunday dinners for miles! A regular customer who loves the lovely cosy feel of this pub and the proper home cooked Sunday dinne just like my grandparents used to make. Highly recommend.

Can't recommend this place highly enough. Vast measures in place in relation to COVID-19, couldn't have felt any safer, name and number taken upon arrival and asked to sanitise hands. Wonderful young girl serving drinks she was very efficient even on a Saturday night, nothing was too much trouble for her. Lovely big beer garden out the back of the pub which we will definitely be visiting when the weather improves. Thank you Black Bull.

Literally the best pub I have visited during the pandemic! The safety procedures and cleaning that they have in place is amazing! Service was fast and both members of staff were so friendly! Would highly recommend a visit here!!

Superb Sunday lunch with choice of Pork, Beef or Chicken with a veggie option. Beautifully cooked and plenty of vegetables. Puddings were massive too. Families are welcome too. There's also a beer garden and the beer is well kept. Would heartily recommend this village pub.

*Amended review* at first I left a positive review as the food was alright for the price. But this was before I checked the Bill, they added a £2 charge for giving us an empty plate to put some of our sunday lunch on for our 2 year old. If they told us at the time about this charge, it wouldn't have been too bad. We were going to come back a couple of weeks later with the in-laws and the extended family, but because of been greedy for the sake of £2.00 They've lost our custom. Hope they spent the £2 well.

fantastic service and great atmosphere

Went family of six today, food was superb from starters, main and sweets. The Sunday dinner was delicious, meats spot on and plenty of veg and gravy 😋. Staff so pleasant and attentive, no problem in a high recommendation for all round satisfaction. Don't live near but next time in Lanchester will definitely be eating there again. Mac👍

A very acceptable place for Sunday lunch. Busy and most ppl had booked but we were found a table.

Passing through village and noticed Sunday’s lunch for £6.95. We both ordered pork which came with stuffing, mash, roasts, Yorkshire pudding and a choice of 4 vegetables on the side with a big boat of gravy. The food was very good at a great price
