Good food / very poor service. We have visited twice this year….the first time we were shown to a dirty table and when we asked if it could be cleaned the waitress replied, “I’ll get round to it when I’m not busy”. The waitress was abrupt and surely throughout. The second visit this week again was let down by staff who seemed to simply not notice we were there. We had to ask twice to order food and when our pudding came it wasn’t the jam and coconut sponge we ordered but a ginger sponge instead. The waitress didn’t even bring any cutlery to eat it with. On both occasions the food was good but quite honestly we thought the staff seemed to be a world of their own!

Such a gorgeous vintage tearoom. Felt transported to 1950s! Loved the decor and outfits the staff wore. The service was excellent - very friendly and accommodating staff. The food was homemade, and they had plenty of gluten free options. I was impressed that they told me they’d prepare my food separately, and had good knowledge of cross contamination. I’d recommend here for people with allergens, such as coeliac disease. The tuna toastie was delicious - everything was fresh, and they took attention to detail by keeping the cucumber separate so the bread didn’t go soggy. Really appreciated the little touches provided. I’ll definitely come back when I’m in the area.

Wonderful tea room in the heart of Bishop Auckland, next to the Spanish Gallery. Fantastic atmosphere and caring and attentive staff. Food was delicious. Afternoon tea was an absolute delight with a wide selection of sandwiches, scones, teas, coffees and cakes. I cannot fault the staff who could not have been more attentive and caring when one of our party became ill from a long standing condition which required an ambulance to be called. Thank you from all of us. ❤️❤️

We were looking forward to this place because of its quirkiness and the brilliant reviews, but we must have caught them on a bad day. Service was fine but the marble cake I ordered was dry and hard, seemingly not fresh by mre than just a day. I immediately let the waitress know, and they brought a different cake at my request, but I was surprised to see that the remaining half of the marble cake was left in the display cabinet, I guess to serve to future customers! The replacement cake I had was fine.

Called today with 4 other friends. Food was lush but service very lax, first drink came 35 mins later -tea for two but came with only one cup. Waited 15 mins for the accompanying scones and then a second cup. Loose tea and two soups, one soup came after that and 10 mins later my loose tea and then soup, in the end I had to sit alone to finish my lunch as my friends had appointments so had to leave. Not good especially as it wasn't complicated and we all ordered at the same time. Hopefully things will improve before our next visit!

Always a warm welcome when you arrive. There may be a short wait until you get seated but never more than a few moments. A small threshwood between reception/till area and cafe is always pointed out when you go between the two for H&S reasons and taken to an available table where you are given three vintage looking menus which is a great start to your dining experience as well as the softly played background music of the 40's/50's era. Special menus displayed on the wall are indicated. There are fabulous tea room choices on the menu from both hot and cold selections. Any dietary requirements could be met and you can even phone in advance to ask if they can serve a particular dish. Always polite, always friendly, staff. Our favourite tea room of all time in a wonderful location in the market Square overlooking the controversial "siege tower" Auckland project neighbouring the entrance walls of Auckland Castle and the Mining Museum.

The food here was extremely disappointing. I ordered the cake of the day which was supposed to be a raspberry ripple cake. I could not taste raspberry. It had far too much icing and tasted of nothing. The macchiato was more of a mocha and was served in a huge mug. The food for this cafe needs seriously re-thinking. It has a lot of potential. I did manage to get a refund for the cake so that was a relief.

What a gem Fifteas is! The service was really good & the staff are so friendly. Being one of the few dry days for a month we sat outside for coffee & toasted teacake, both good. The crockery is an eclectic mix which I feel gives a homely touch. My husband (79) was sat under a speaker quietly playing 50s music (unobtrusive) & I could hardly get him to move on. The Hash and Pie came with a large gravy boat of tasty homemade gravy. All the food was tasty and enjoyed by us all. Been here several times with good service etc which made this disappointing visit all the worse. Dogs get a free sausage on Wet Nose Wednesday...... or not as we found out. To be blunt the staff were too busy chatting fifty to the dozen at the counter to all and sundry about the Food Festival and how well they could do out of it .... Great, I hope they do but in the meantime what about paying customers? We ordered coffee and cake and were seated in the 'doggy area' , absolutely fine. We were told twice that the sausage for our dog would be with us in a minute... Never happened !! Should I have got up and asked? Nah, I didn't want to interrupt the constant chattering.... which continued with not even a " Thank you " when we finished our coffee and cakes , left and said ' thank you' on the way out. Very rude. Good luck with the Food Festival, as you told everyone hopefully it'll rain and you'll be busy. Not sure we'll be going back to Fifteas though. Ignoring customers and not even thanking them for their custom is not an endearing trait in the hospitality business.
