Love this place and have been multiple times. I reserved a table for 2 people on this visit and went with my baby also. When we arrived we were seated at a table for 2 and had our order taken. Shortly after getting our food the staff saw I was struggling to feed the baby in the space we were in and we were offered a bigger table in a quieter spot which was hugely appreciated. They moved all the food and drinks for us while I got settled. So attentive! The staff are always super friendly, food is amazing and the mochas are the best around. Will be back again soon. Thankyou!

This has always been a favourite place to visit but I won’t be coming back anytime soon. We had booked a table but it wasn’t busy and shown to our seats. On the menu there was 2 vegetarian and 1 vegan option. I ordered the beetroot and goats cheese quiche. The server came back and said they didn’t have it ok I’ll have the wild mushroom frittata sorry we don’t have that either. What do you have an olive and something quiche. I don’t like olives so only other option was the penang curry. Which they had. (I don’t come out to lunch for a cheese sandwich so that’s not an option). The server didn’t apologise or have any pleasantries other than to take order. My mam and auntie had corn beef pie which with chips and veg looked like a decent portion. The curry however had more rice than curry a few crakers that sweet chilly sauce had spilt over them. It was ok but I’ve had better. No one came to clear our table or ask if we wanted cake or more drinks even tho it wasn’t busy. I had to ask for the bill again not even asked if we’d enjoyed the food. I asked for two takeaway scones and paid the bill. However a different server brought the scones on plates sorry I’d asked for takeaway. No apology. I’ve never had such a disappointing experience here. Sorry but I won’t be back 😔

Fantastic Mothers Day Afternoon Tea. Took my 85 yr old mother here for mothers day and she loved the experience from beginning to end, being greated by the lovely staff who couldn't do enough for us, then into the gift shop for a little treat to take home and mark the occasion. Thank you very much to all the staff for a lovely day. 10/10 as always. Michael Ramsey

The afternoon tea was amazing! The sandwiches were fulled to the brim with filling, on deliciously soft bread (we chose brown bloomer). Between 3 of us, we sampled each flavour, with each being perfectly balanced. The scones were the nicest we have ever tried and came warm and perfectly baked. It was great to have both a savoury and a sweet scone, rather that just the one (as you might find elsewhere). The cake was also very moist and delicious. The chocolate strawberries were also a very nice addition. Overall I would say the afternoon tea is the nicest I’ve ever had! (Gift shop was great too!). 10/10 would recommend.

We told them we were stopping for lunch on our way to the airport as we are flying home tonight and they gave us a goodybag with sweets for on the plane. We were so surprised by this lovely gesture. Will always come back if we are again in the area. Just had some of the cakes they gave us and they are to die for. So would also really recommend the cake!

I have visited Bayberry Hollow on a few occasions and have usually been pleased with the food and service. Hence why I’m giving it 3 stars. However, on my visit today I was very disappointed. Myself and a friend ordered food, I ordered a soup and a scone. Our food came out and my soup tasted very odd, it was burnt and smoky which is not what I expected from leek and potato. I very rarely say anything negative unless needed, I am from a hospitality background and understand the difficulties of getting things perfect, however this soup was pretty awful and the scone was stodgy in the middle. I told the waitress and she checked with the kitchen. On her return she said the chef agreed and something must have caught on the pan when making it. Therefore would I like to order something else. She was very apologetic and although I appreciate these things happen from time to time; I was shocked the chef didn’t check the batch of soup before it went out. The waitress thanked me for letting them know which shocked me that it took a customer to highlight that something wasn’t right. I ordered the quiche whilst my friend finished her food, it came and was unfortunately pretty overcooked and bland. I felt underwhelmed with the food, so ordered a fruit scone (my friend already had one which looked lovely) my scone arrived and after taking my first bite I realised the cream was actually soured cream, not clotted cream. I told the waitress, who was very apologetic. She was obviously embarrassed and said ‘it’s not your day today’ which I agreed but part of me was fed up by this point as I just wanted something tasty for lunch and what felt like a simple lunch was a bit of a shambles. After having my scone and tea, which was ok… but I’ve certainly had better here before… we got moved downstairs when we ordered another drink and received the bill. I appreciate the staff sorted the order in the end, however, unfortunately it was not enjoyable regardless of the mistakes made. I would have appreciated perhaps a cup of tea on the house to apologise for the inconvenience, but nothing. To end on a positive, the staff are always very friendly and BH always has a nice and welcoming atmosphere, however, unfortunately I most likely won’t return again due to the disappointment in the quality of food.

Visited on 28th February with family. First thoughts was it’s a lovely little place. We arrived at 11.30 and couldn’t order main lunch food until 12pm which was fine ordered drinks which came very quickly and coffees were red hot how we like staff ok not very attentive unless they know you or a regular felt a-bit left out to be honest. Ordered food Nicely presented however chips were cold and hard. We were sat near the kitchen door and could see that chips are cooked in batches and left under heat lamp to keep warm. Tried to catch waitresses eye for sauces as we weren’t asked if we wanted any, but they were either talking to regulars or themselves. Weren’t asked if food was ok or anything. We then ordered desserts we were asked if we wanted cream or ice cream with them which we replied one with ice cream and one with cream. Brownie came cold which would have been nice to have been asked if I would like it warmed. Brownie was a bit caught on the edges and tasted burnt. Cake was very dry. When we paid the bill it came to £54.00 for 2 main meals, portion of chips, 2 coffees, 1 tea, brownie and a cake. We were charged extra £1.50 for ice cream with the brownie and £1.00 for cream with the cake. Would of been good to have been told this was extra nothing was marked on the menu either. Felt a bit deflated after leaving.

Ordered Penang Curry as it was the only plant based option, which was not a problem as I like curry. In appearance it was nowhere near the description on the menu. It was served in a small bowl; the rice was hard and lumped together, the curry looked like sludge and tasted of too much salt and nothing else. Inexplicably there was a lot of grated carrot and red cabbage in the bowl - not on the menu, not requested and no idea why it was there. Refused to eat it or pay for it. My friends meals were only just ok; one of them left over half of the food on her plate.

First time visiting today. I booked afternoon tea for me and my mother for her birthday and I really can’t find a fault in this place. We loved how we were given a choice of what sandwich and cake we wanted to be included in our afternoon tea, we have been to many places were we just had to have what we were given, the options were great too, I eat meat but my mam doesn’t so there was a vegetarian option which she loved, the size of the portions were great we even had to take some home as we could not eat it all, the coffee was great and the overall atmosphere was great. After our afternoon tea we browsed the shop and had to buy a few items as the items stocked here are amazing. Overall great experience and I’m glad I found this place to celebrate my mother’s birthday. Will definitely be back in the future.

Took my son for lunch. Lovely cafe, cheese onion and bacon scone was delicious. However service wasn't great. Lady who took our order was lovely, interacted with my son and was polite. Then another girl brought out the wrong scone to the table and when I asked for the one I ordered there was no apology, brought the correct scone back cold (I had ordered a warmed scone). I asked her to warm it and she took it back muttering something as she walked off, she then brought scone back. It was mildly warm on the outside but stone cold in the middle. Such a shame as have heard good things about the place so took my son out for a treat. Will give the place another chance as it was only the one serving food that massively let the place down

Lovely little bistro / coffee shop... really nice for breakfast or lunch time snack 😋....not sure the recent 'online reservations' really works for them as lots of empty tables which is very unusual...we gave up our table for an elderly lady who could of sat upstairs but there was plenty of tables down stairs but obviously 'booked'

An establishment that charges premium rates for sandwiches should have this reflected in the service too. On arrival there was a reservations issue and despite showing the confirmation, it felt like we were intruding. We had to wait and had to explain two times that we had a booking and the behaviour we got was somewhat aloof and matter of fact…this is not in keeping with the premium pricing and the experience expected from Bayberry!! And there were ample free tables by the way!! It was resolved but we still felt unwelcomed and Bayberry need to do better…the first impression sets the tone and you failed to do this!! Instead of multiple discussions, it should have been…welcome we love that you are here and let me find you a table…hopefully this helps you to do better. Very generous food portions with some lovely wait staff. When the space is full, impossible to have a conversation as too loud. We wish the team here the best and usure we would return.

Booked for afternoon tea, and expecting (like previous visits) for the price (nearly £30 without alcohol) a very good spread, but sadly we were dissapointed. All three afternoon tea's were brought on one stand (itself not a good sign), and it was fairly meagre for the price paid. Had to choose a sandwich (would have expected as in other places several different sandwiches on the plate). I had the bloomer, but my friends swore theirs was just sliced warburtons white loaf. No quiche or pie was included (though there were some lovely looking ones on the display, and sprig of salad and crisps (about two each) adorned the near £100 meal. The cheese scone was a fairly small falt affair, compared to the massive fluffy ones at the counter. A fairly dry Victoria sponge with buttercream completed the repast. Tea and Coffe was included, but if you waned cappucino or other than standard tea, this was EXTRA. Not worth the price paid, and was of an overall standard of a high street cafe, not the "delicious home cooked food in a rustic cafe and bistro" advertised.

I’ve been here three time and every time it’s always a great experience but this time the service was fantastic we got served really quickly and all our needs were met with us having a 5month old. We came in for coffee and cake on Bank Holiday Monday. Good quality furnishing and attentive staff. The milk in the coffee was a bit hot but the cake was enormous and tasty. We had chocolate fudge cake and carrot cake to share and it was very good value for money. Live this place. The gift shop is also nice for unusual cards and small gifts..

What a wonderful little place! Food was excellent as was the service. Friendly helpful staff, the breakfast was delicious, a great sausage! Added bonus.... a wonderful gift shop also. Lovely things to buy for yourself or as gifts for others. I am looking forward to visiting again.

This was my first time at Bayberry Hollow and I'll be back! Such helpful and friendly staff. Special thanks to Nicola, who organised a nice table for us on my friend's birthday. Food was delicious and plentiful, with excellent service. Along with a bit of retail therapy, it was a fabulous experience.

Absolutely gorgeous place to visit, so many items in the gift shop to look at all reasonably priced. The restaurant was very cosy and comfortable and the food was to die for. Will definitely be back soon with friends to try the afternoon tea. Highly recommend!

Poor, overpriced and not very friendly staff I'm afraid. We were shown to a table to be told lunch was in 20 minutes. Breakfast must have been over so cakes weren't required. I also bumped my head on the way out (no warning sign). Lack of parking.

We had been here a few times in the past, though not for a couple of years now. We were really looking forward to a nice lunch as we knew this place always had a nice atmosphere. In the past we'd had sandwiches, always delicious, Not this time. Barely any sandwiches on the menu seems to be more hot food. We had some kind of quiche, not sure what kind but it was pretty inedible, with salad, which was all just lettuce, nothing appealing about it at all. The other was an Easter sandwich of hot turkey and bacon, the bun was dry and the meat heated up and withered. Again, inedible. The offer was good and the staff lovely, though a bit chaotic as it was busy. It was £30 and we left most of it (something I never do). Lots of other dishes looked nice from what I could see on the way out. A poor choice made by us no doubt, but we won't be back any time soon

Recent visit. Tea and fruit scone. This had to be the worst fruit scone I have ever been served. Taste, texture and appearance very disappointing.

50s Tea room was stepping a bit back in time. The staff had great customer service, attentive & smiles. The dress & ration books used for the menus has a nice personal touch, with the decor. I had todays special of feta and red pepper quiche with sweet potato fries & hubby had smoked salmon & cream cheese sandwich with chunky chips. 2 diet cokes came to £27.30 A reasonable price. In Market square, Bishop Auckland.
