I recently visited Upstairs Brixton with my partner for drinks and snacks before heading to an event at the Brixton O2, and it was a delightful experience. From the moment we arrived, we felt warmly welcomed by the friendly staff, which set the tone for a lovely time. The atmosphere inside was cozy and inviting, a perfect spot to relax and enjoy a pre-event drink. We also ventured up to the roof terrace to take in the view, but it was a little chilly that evening – something to look forward to trying again in warmer weather! Although we didn’t have a chance to sample the food this time, the menu looked absolutely divine. It’s definitely something we’ll try on our next visit, as it’s clear a lot of care and thought has gone into curating a delicious selection. Overall, Upstairs Brixton provided the perfect setting for a laid-back yet stylish start to our evening. We had a wonderful time and will definitely return soon. Thank you for a memorable experience – we’re already looking forward to our next visit!

I had been here a few years ago and loved this place, but unfortunately it seems it’s permanently closed? Their website is still live (July 2024), we tried to reserve by filling in a form on their site but got no response. Went their without reservation during stated opening hours. Not only was the restaurant closed but the signage had been removed from the exterior of the building.

Tex Bites was always the go to spot on a Friday evening or Saturday, Mexicana Burger meal with wings instead of a drink or some tenders on the side. Fast forward to Covid, backyard BBQ teamed up with Tex to perhaps keep Tex afloat. The Mexicana burger is still a goto burger with their crinkle cut fries, but sadly the Backyard BBQ division seems to be lacking and slightly overpriced. Albeit, I only tried Backyard BBQ when they first launched a few years back (I was a bit shocked at the pricing at the time, for a joint that used to be a budget takeaway spot) and returned to try their wings. Sadly, they were very disappointing. 6 backyard wings (basically grilled wings) for £8.50. I’ll get back to the price shortly. 4 out of 6 wings were burnt, not even charred. I’ve included a picture of one of the wings in my review. Since we got takeaway (which we always do) I wasn’t able to check them before I left the shop. Rather disappointing that there’s no quality control, if something is burnt, chuck it and start a fresh. Now for the pricing - Chicken cottage doesn’t even charge that much for their grilled wings. I’d expect at least 8 wings for the price they’re charging. Or jumbo sized wings OR full size wings. Overall, I think the OG Mexicana burger is probably the only good thing that’s on the menu, for the price point at least.

Odd one this. Had a booking for 8pm. Arrived at 8.15pm. Sole waitress looked at her watch, seemed irritated and told us we had to order straight away as the kitchen closes at 8.30pm. No mention of this little detail on the website. Based on the bad vibes from the waitress, decided to leave and had a lovely meal at The Treehouse, a few mins walk from here. Shane as I was really looking forward to coming here. One to avoid.
