The best restaurants in East of England

A proper pub with a restaurant, one does not dominate the other. This pub continues to deliver, visit at least once a month.

We have been to this tea room on 4 occasions. We never find it open even although there is no closure notice on their website or recorded telephone ansaphone message. By the way we visit within the advertised opening hours.

Fantastic breakfast, came quick, decent coffee could not fault this cafe at all, best cafe I've used.

Had dinner here for the first time after being recommended by family. Amazing food - so delicious especially the moussaka. Have to say the service is second to none. Very attentive and genuinely friendly. Would like to come again for lunch next time.

On my third visit to the pub I was touched by the excellent customer service my ex husband and I received. We went for an early dinner and he accidentally spilled the food before we could touch it. The owner graciously attended to the situation. He is hands on and the staff are attentive. The food was great. It was smiles all round. Great place to hang out

Had lunch today with 5 friends. The servers were both so miserable it was unbelievable. Over priced over rated and disappointing. Will not be returning

Lovely village pub with great atmosphere, staff and food. Nice touch as they knew we were bringing our small dog, in having dog biscuits on the table & water bowl on the floor. Couldn't fault this place but be aware it does not have a car park.

Stopped here for food after a bike ride. The staff could not have been more welcoming and helpful. The food was delicious and they were happy to split an adults meal for our children. May encourage me to get on my bike more! Thank you

To start with the pub was very welcoming from the excellent decor to ultra friendly staff and owner! We were served with drinks very promptly, we then made our way to the table assigned to us. A short time later we were brought menus and a list of ‘specials’. After allowing us appropriate time to browse through we ordered the fish pie and the steak and ale pie. Quite frankly the food was ‘superb’ the steak and ale pie was clearly homemade and was filled full of the most tender steak pieces encrusted in puff pastry with a delicious gravy, mine was served with lovely crispy chips and my wife’s with mash, this was accompanied with peas and carrots……..delicious. Our friends had the fish pie which looked equally appealing with chunks of fish topped with a crispy topped potato which they both said was superb also. We finished the meal with a crème brûlée and a cream/ fruit meringue. All in all a 10/10 meal which we couldn’t fault in any way. The two staff members (one was the owner I think) and a younger member of staff were friendly, professional and ‘on point’. We came on Friday 8th November so well done to both of you. I would highly recommend this pub to anyone checking out this review.

I honestly couldn’t recommend Thoroughbreads more highly! The team here are so friendly and the atmosphere is always so welcoming. I have been coming to them for around 20 years and also used them in my last company and the food and drink across the menu is outstanding. I can genuinely recommend them for corporate catering as well as personally! Give them a try you won’t look back!

I visited The Burleigh Arms today, and although I’m not usually a fan of Sunday roasts, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I love pork, and their pork belly was absolutely fantastic—soft, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Every single item on the plate had its own wonderful taste that made the meal enjoyable from start to finish. To start, I had the spicy arancini, which was a perfect pairing with the beer selection. The flavors were bold and made for a great appetizer. To finish off, I had the lemon panna cotta with biscotti for dessert, and it was the perfect ending to a fantastic meal—light, tangy, and delicious. If you’re into Sunday roasts, I highly recommend this place, even if you’re not a regular fan, you might just be pleasantly surprised like I was!

Had the most enjoyable evening with the Essex Working Trials society. You did the big crowd of us proud with such friendly staff and the wonderful food. Top marks team !!
