A proper pub with a restaurant, one does not dominate the other. This pub continues to deliver, visit at least once a month.

If you’ve got a young family, don’t come here for lunch as you’re not allowed to eat in the garden. This caused mayhem for our family that wanted to eat but had a 1yr old and 4rd old that wanted to be in the garden playing at the same time. Quite blunt in the bar and no leniency towards our pleas. Also, no mention of this on the website or during booking. Was told when we ordered. Not happy because the garden is amazing but the distance between garden and outside restaurant area was too great. Food was okay but experience tarnished by this lack of common sense or general decency to explain this area was only for drinks before we arrived. In reply to your comment, I am guessing you don’t have children as you would surely understand how children do dictate pub meals as their happiness is our only concern. Also, I would recommend replacing your ‘pricey’ plates with less expensive ones and making the huge 10 metre walk across the vast expanse of the car park to a potentially money making garden area for food. Anyway, I’m sure your lack of professionalism has won you many fans with your comments. Thanks again

Hearty large fresh portions cooked with love. Service was polite and prompt. I need to remember to only order the half rack of ribs next time, as they are so filling... and the best beer battered onion rings.

Never been here before but the menu looked good. As soon as we entered, we were given a lovely warm greeting and shown to our table. The drinks order was taken straight away and the drinks arrived within a couple of minutes (as did all future drinks orders). We shared a couple of starters, both of which were delicious. A little disappointed to discover the pie had sold out but that's sometimes to be expected with home-cooked dishes. The mains were tasty and filling and we could only manage one dessert between us. Overall, extremely impressed with the service - quite rare to come across staff this friendly.

It was a lovely day, so decided to have lunch in the garden, unfortunately the staff weren't happy about that and said they would put our food on a table and we were to collect and then when finished return to that same table, never had hostility like this in a pub that serves food and provides tables outside presumably to enjoy a meal in the nice weather. Having said this the food was lovely!

Lovely venue for a birthday party

Well done to everyone at the White star. I bought my family for a Sunday lunch last week. The roast was delicious, lovely that you serve different vegetables and the potatoes were perfect. The staff were delightful and the whole place has a pleasant feel about it. We didn’t use it but there is a lovely, safe area for children to run around and play. We will definitely visit again.

We had a delicious Sunday roast here, including an amazing vegetarian roast. The weather was lovely so we were able to eat outside, and the staff were friendly as always. The desserts are always varied and tasty too!

It was OK, Not the best meal I've had from there and for what it cost it wasn't great. Probably better sticking to the pub classic meals in there.

Really nice food, had the burger and others had pie of the day and I had ice cream. Really good quality and service was very good considering they were busy. Will definitely go back when I am next in the area.

Lovely atmosphere , friendly staff

IV always liked this pub, but sadly I arranged for my mother's wake to be held here as she often had lunch there. The landlady didn't even say I'm sorry to hear about your mum, the £160, paid for sandwiches and cake was actually disgraceful, there was hardly anything there, plus all the sandwiches were dry. To top things off we were going to stay and have a meal after the wake but was told the table we were sitting at was booked, utterly shameful as we had booked this area at least two weeks before.

Lovely roast dinner, but unfortunately very difficult to cut meat and potatoes as the knives are really blunt!! Restaurant need to splash out on some new cutlery!!

Enjoyed a meal here en route to Stansted airport. Hadn't booked but was busy at 6pm , luckily managed to squeeze us in. Good food and friendly service, would have been 5 stars if they hadn't run out of liver and bacon!

Nice old country pub with a friendly welcome. McMullen's beers and lovely food with a nice choice on the menu and specials board. On the night we were there (Friday 22 October 2021) Roxy Searle was playing acoustic guitar she got everyone involved and we had a nice evening. Looking forward to more live music 👍

Enjoyed a meal in this pub tonight. I was really impressed with the food and the price. I have paid the same or more microwaved pub food. I had the fish and chips tonight, all home made, good size portion and absolutely delicious. Good selection of beers as well. I will definitely be coming back. This place is a real gem.

Disappointing mushrooms on sourdough, avoid unless you enjoy tinned mushrooms on soggy bread with not a hint of wine or cream.

Just visited the white hart and what a lovely little hidden gem! Very friendly all social distancing rules adhered to. Lots of room so you don't feel cramped. We all had a roast dinner perfectly cooked, personally we would have liked a few more veggies but that's just us we like veggies 😉. Lovely kiddies play area ,again lots of room. All in all a lovely place, we will definitely return. And the flowers are gorgeous too!!

One of our random drives brought us to this beautiful pub in a village a few moments from the A10. It has the feeling of an old coaching inn, with low ceilings (watch your head anyone 6' or over), open fireplaces and wood aplenty. There's character abound. And the food. I chose Beer Battered Fish and Chips, which came with the most gloriously cooked potatoes I've had in many a year. The fish was soft and flavoursome, the tartar sauce a perfect accompaniment. It came from the lunch menu, and both portion and price were perfect. The smoky chicken melt with sweet potato fries and coleslaw was had by my better half. She thoroughly enjoyed her meal, which was also cooked to perfection and the right portion for us (enough to feel full, not so much it becomes uncomfortable). Service was spot-on, friendly and informal with the impression those who worked there did so out of a labour of love. Overall, a welcoming experience and a great place to pause for a spot of launch as you go exploring.

A lovely village pub, very welcoming, great service and amazing food. So lucky to have a pub like this on our doorstep. Highly recommended.
