Gambero D'oro in Castle Point

Had lunch today with 5 friends. The servers were both so miserable it was unbelievable. Over priced over rated and disappointing. Will not be returning

This restaurant is so lovely ., the staff are nice and the food is just amazing !! I recommend the fish it's so fresh ! I had the cod with mash and wilted spinach yum !

Had a fabulous meal tonight cerebrating my son’s birthday. Great food and service. We’ve been here a number of times and restaurant never fails to deliver. Would highly recommend if you want good food and great ambience.

Really disappointing meal. Mussels starter was like warm, steak was VERY tough, practically inedible. Stuffed mushrooms starter was a single mushroom. Staff were alright. Restaurant needs decorating inside as everything is very worn.

Enjoyed the set menu lunch, although the garlic bread to start didn't have much garlic! Very good, friendly service, nice food and good value, so would recommend. However I parked right outside and paid for the maximum parking (which I thought was 3 hours?) and received a £60 parking fine, as I was over this time. So beware😞

We had our first takeaway from here, couple different pasta dishes, lasagne and a few sides. Great tasting couldn’t fault that at all, one of the nicest we’ve had in a while. Only fault I would say is that the pasta dishes were massive but the lasagne I could of ate two but for the price it’s a tad expensive for two. But other than that it was amazing.

Highly recommend the Linguine al Gamberi. I've had numerous take aways from this restaurant since lockdown and used to attend the restaurant fairly regularly. Me and my husband love the food here.

We had a take away from here last week and again tonight. The food was delicious. We had different meals and they have all been lovely, I actually had the steak twice and it was perfect both times. It was lovely to have the convenience of a take away but to have a real quality restaurant meal if you know what I mean.

We go to this restaurant a lot as the food and service is always 10/10. It was my father in laws favourite restaurant but unfortunately we lost him to covid and as we couldn’t have a proper wake we decided to go here to celebrate him as a couple and the staff were so lovely, especially John, at looking after us and making the night as special as it could. Highly recommend!

We’ve eaten at Gambero many times but tonight was disappointing unfortunately. We both had Sirloin steak which was very tough and the sauté potatoes were leading towards burnt. Nobody came round during our meal to ask if everything was ok and when the plates were collected at the end and I said our steak was tough waiter just said ‘oh sorry about that’.Our meal cost £98 so very disappointing. Hopefully it was a one off.

Went here with three other friends and you wouldn’t think there was a global pandemic going on. Apart from having to wear a mask when going to your table its as if life was back to normal. Needs to separate the tables more or make less tables available if not possible. Apart from this was a lovely time, great staff and great food.

Love this little place ...the food is always fabulous and good sized portions. The staff are friendly and helpful and go out of their way to make sure your visit is perfect. And no rush to get you out...just a lovely relaxing evening. Thanks guys.

My 3rd visit last night and once again was amazing. Food was delicious, service was amazing. I secretly asked the waiter if we could sing happy birthday to my mum and he couldn't of been more helpful. Also sanatizing his hands before and after taking a photo for me. 10 out of 10 from me

We booked our table very last minute and I’m so pleased we came here. Food is delicious with every bite full of flavour. The staff are all friendly and allow you to enjoy your dinner without constantly checking in on you. We can’t wait to come back!

I cannot thank Natalie , Tony and all the brilliant staff at GAMBERO’S ITALIAN RESTAURANT , SOUTH BENFLEET for this evening. We have missed the attention , ambience and care you give to us and all your customers whilst we have been in lock down.... admittedly we have enjoyed the occasional “ take away “ and especially my birthday treat but most certainly not the same as a sit down dinning experience. HOWEVER Tonight was super special as it was Amanda’s and I 1st dining experience with our grandson REGGIE , ❤️Ronnie and ELLIE ❤️ of course we all know he is to young ( 3 weeks ) to comprehend where he was at tonight BUT for an old fella like me . It brings back memories when I remember clear as a bell when my father took me out for our 1st family restaurant experience over 50 years ago !!! It’s a beautiful thing to just simply pass on those treasured memories so that one day REGGIE can write a few words about his experiences taking his family out too ❤️ god bless us all

Had the chicken and mushroom risotto had no flavour at all, was like eating a bowl of plain porridge

We have been visiting Gambero D'oro several times a year for the past four years and realise I've never completed a review. We are always welcomed by the friendly staff and we like the small intimate feel to the restaurant. The menu is reasonably priced and we've not had a bad meal yet. The house red wine is so nice that we just always go for this with our meals. The house white wine is ok but I would suggest getting a different one. The specials are always enticing and there are lots of seafood and fish dishes available. The sea bass is one of my husbands favourites. The service is always great. The lunchtime and evening menus (Mon-Thurs) are extremely reasonably priced. Overall, highly recommend.

Went with a group of friends and we were unanimous that the food was good, service was good, and cost was reasonable. The only drawback I would mention is that it is quite noisy as other customers voices seemed to echo to a certain extent, however it was not at an unacceptable level

We visited here after a few people had recommended it to us. Overall, the food was nice and we received good service. The wine list was also pretty good, and reasonably priced as well. In our opinion, the food wasn’t as good as we thought it was going to be. Some of the dishes could have had more flavour. We thought the food was pretty similar to the likes of the big chain Italian restaurants such as Pizza Express and Ask Italian.

Booked table tonight for 7 persons but seated on end wasn't very happy but squashed in. Also didn't take our Coates so my son in law tripped over my coat on back of chair whilst it was vacated and bumped into table opposite whilst eating

Got to love this little Italian once you walk in your in heaven. I Eat out at a lot of Italians but they struggle to compare with this been 6 times now and always tried new things specials are always different as well. Need to book early as sometimes you struggle getting a table. Can’t recommend enough for a good date night.

Such a varied menu and every dish Is so tasteful, freshly cooked and we love all the staff, always such a wonderful meal and service, Thank you Hill Johnny Ronnie and all the chefs....

Really enjoyed my first visit to this place , food seemed very authentic and the service was top notch will defiantly be returning great place for a romantic meal with a special person ;)

We meet some family here for an evening meal and to catch up as we hadn’t seen each other for a while, the food was good apart from the dessert which was supposed to be lemon but tasted more vanilla, staff were really nice, good service. On the down side (which really was down!) it as just so very noisy, we couldn’t have a conversation due to how very loud people were!, when we arrived there were some people on the next table that shouted to each other rather than spoke, when they left some ladies arrived on the table opposite and they were just as bad, the staff didn’t try to manage the situation, maybe they are happy providing they are getting the money in! It was very busy, I’d say ‘packed’ I would go again probably for lunch but definitely not an evening meal.

Lovely little Italian restaurant - staff could not be more helpful. I was on crutches and they went out of their way to help with access and comfort. Good food and excellent value. Added advantage - they are open Mondays when many restaurants are not.

Treated ourselves to a birthday lunch(3 of us).arrived at 1pm,the restuarant was virtually empty,had the choice of any table!We chose off the lunch time menu and off the al a carte,no problem mixing the two menus.The garlic bread starter is huge(and tasty),the portions of all the meals are a good size.The meals are very Italian and very tasty!Service is very friendly and efficient,price wise it is not the cheapest around but well worth the money.try it ,you will not be dissapointed.Parking is in the hoy and helmet pub,which is payable, £2 for three hours I think.

final got her to agree to a date saw reveiws so thought i would give them a go. Made my booking cheekly told them i was meeting some speacial they couldnt have been more helpful they had given me a lovely table by the bar. waiter was friendly and helped us to choose a good wine will definatly be back hopefully for further dates.

Have been to this restaurant on a few occasions since it opened and have never been let down by the food or the staff ( especially John)! Lots of choice always cooked fresh and to a very high standard with portions that leave you stuffed. Every time I have visited I haven’t had room for dessert and I’ve even had the leftovers wrapped up to eat the next day. The pasta dishes are fantastic and the steak is melt in the mouth, really can’t fault it in any way. Oh and the babisch wine is absolutely a great find, it seems to go with whatever you order as do the lemonchello shots... always a great way to finish an Italian meal. Can’t wait to return very soon

In town for some family business from US and this was a remarkable find. The staff and the food is authentic, fresh and delicious. I haven’t had a meal like it ever in England.Thanks Roni and Jean for being so gracious with your time. Lovely to meet you.

We were having a meal with our friends and we called to book and everything. When we arrived they questioned the fact that we had booked then after we finished our main course, the waiter came to our table and told us we had to leave at eight o’clock. At this point it was one minute to eight. We felt like we were getting kicked out and had no time for desserts or coffees. They gave us no notice that we had to leave by eight and it was outrageous service.

Have visited several times, usually need to book several days ahead to get in, tends to be busy. Parking is a slight pain as shared with Hoy & Helmet & is Pay & Display. Good food & wine list, wouldn't particularly recommend their steaks. Prices are reasonable for a good quality meal

We visited this restaurant that has recently opened in Rayleigh High Street. They were buzzing and virtually fully booked but managed to get us a table on the day.Lunch time was also busy. Nice menu with 2 courses for £13.95 and 3 courses for about £18.95.I opted for the garlic bread with caramelised onion, delicious and the size of a small pizza ! My partner chose from the Main menu and had prawns that he said were lovely.He chose the fillet steak that was cooked to perfection. My chicken salad with pesto dressing was also very good.The staff were friendly. We did wait a while to get a first drink but they were very busy. It is quite noisy but a good atmosphere. There are tables upstairs also but I didn’t get to see them. I would recommend this restaurant and wish them good luck.

first time visit to the new restaurant in Rayleigh for Sunday lunch and will back for sure! had the clam spaghetti and was the best pasta dish I have had for a long while

This was my first visit and I was pleasantly surprised. The staff were very helpful and friendly especially Jean. He was very patient with us and made sure we had everything we needed especially a 20 minute break between our starter and main course. We had some banter with him which made our night. Oh! and the food was excellent. Will definitely be going back.

Not a place to go if you want to chat, there was four of us and you could not hear each other due to noise, no idea if there was background music. In addition this is a small place which was rammed therefore windows where open but what this meant was you could smell smoke coming in from people outside.The meal was not worth the price paid and dry or small potions. Staff where friendly.

On the recommendation of a good friend, we have recently visited the restaurant at Benfleet for lunch and tonight visited their new restaurant in Rayleigh.Good choice of fixed price menu available Sunday to Thursday. Good selection of wines, decor is clean and fresh, service good and food excellent.Good to have another Italian restaurant in Rayleigh.We will return!

Just back from a wonderful evening and meal at the Gambero d’or in Benfleet Was taken there for our Anniversary by our Daughter and son in law and even though hubby is not a fan of Italian food there was plenty of choice Service was second to none and food delicious As far as I could tell food was cooked to order so very fresh, going on what I had and what the rest of the party had it must have been good as all plates were empty I would definitely recommend this place The only down side for me was the price of a glass of wine but think that’s the same in most places

Went to New resteraunt in Rayleigh high street today for lunch only opened today and would highly reccomend giving it a try.

Went here with family for daughters birthday, had a lovely meal, relaxed friendly atmosphere, friendly, attentive staff and the food was amazing and such large portions... we all came away full to the brim.. will definitely be going back and highly recommend

My husband and I went here for my Birthday last weekend recommendation from a friend, the Restaurant was quite small inside but didn't feel cramped, the staff were very attentive and we both really enjoyed the food, we will definitely return here and have also recommended it to friends

We enjoyed a delicious meal for Sunday lunch. Service was friendly and helpful. Restaurant is quiet and there a delightful views of the creek reed-beds, which is different. Desserts were great and main meals fresh. Thoroughly recommend.

Really lovely food but HUGE portions - the garlic bread is the size of a pizza and the pasta dishes are massive! They taste amazing but everyone only ate half their meals so it’s a shame there is so much wastage. Would definitely go back, plus the wine was lovely!

Had a terrible experience here on Friday (14/06/19). Service was good until our starters arrived. My girlfriend ordered the mozzarella starter which came with a side of salad. While eating our starter my girlfriend came across a slug on her salad. We were completely shocked, wish I’d have taken a photo of it but due to the shock taking a picture wasn’t a priority at the time. We called the waitress over and explained the situation to her, she was very understanding and shocked herself. She handled the situation extremely well with us.We decided to leave the restaurant due to losing our appetite. The waitress told the manager who seemed to completely ignore what had happened. As we made the decision to leave, the waitress even called the manager and pointed to us as if to prompt him to come over and apologise etc. He never came over and as we walked past completely ignored us. I just think this is extremely unacceptable, I would have been quite understanding if he’d have come over to offer his apologies etc but to ignore us I just thought was disgusting considering what had just happened.Will not be returning again.

Came here for lunch last Friday, they do two courses for £10.95. Nice little cute location overlooking the fields, great view. I had the breaded mozzarella and lasagne - very nice. I have since spotted they are opening one in Rayleigh too.

Girlfriend and I ate here last night. I had steak and potatoes, girlfriend had prawn and squid spaghetti. Been up with her all night as she’s been violently throwing up and other symptoms not polite to mention.. however my steak was lovely.

Visited this restaurant several times and never been disappointed , delicious food and lovely staff make you feel really welcome and it’s just a 2 minute walk from the train station which is ideal.

Had a great meal here enjoyed it and very reasonable been meaning to go here for ages but the outside always put us off .very glad I decided to eventually venture inside as it was tasty but the setting does let it down and it’s such a shame. It’s a bit bright and everyone is aware of everyone else ie you cannot get to the loo without everyone noticing. I am sure if the setting was different they could easily double their prices as it is certainly value for money and excellent service but don’t be like us and let the look of the place put you off we will be returning and taking others that’s a cert sorry we left it so long

This is a lovely family run restaurant the staff are friendly professional and will go out of there way to do the best for you There is a wide variety of different types of meals to help with the bank balance the restaurant is small but cosy you are not on top of one another this is a real Asset to Castle point

Went to Gambero on a Saturday with my wife for her birthday, staff were polite and very efficient and food was quite nice both in quality and price. As a popular restaurant it is busy at weekends and due to the hard furnishings very noisy so If you want a quiet night out you may want to consider this!The food service is rapid and I think may involve use of a microwave to keep hot but was still tasty . I was surprised that an Italian restaurant doesn’t offer cheese or savoury courses .All in all it was a nice evening.

Visited the restaurant on Saturday for my wife’s birthday after being recommended by friends and wasn’t disappointed.I had the fish stew which was one of the nicest things I’ve ever eaten.My wife had the king prawns with risotto rice which she also said was delicious.All the staff were very helpful and friendly.I highly recommend this restaurant

Gambero D'Oro is in the old part of Benfleet next door to the Hoy & Helmet. It serves typically Italian cuisine, cooked to perfection. Prices are reasonable, they offer a two course lunch menu for £10.95 Monday - Saturday. The friendly staff are onhand to offer advice should you need it. Parking is quite limited so I would recommend parking in the station car park. Definitely worth a visit.

We went here for a meal with friends and loved it.The food was very good and came up with polite helpful staff. The menu had a good choice so something for all six of us to have.

We try and visit this restaurant at least once a month as we love it. The staff are great and know what we want to order before we say. I’m vegetarian and they are very accommodating and always make what I like. Love the food, love the people.. great restaurant ... only down side is we often decide we want to go on the day and can’t get a table as they are fully booked. But that’s what happens when a restaurant is fab... it gets too busy :)

This place is amazing . I’ve been with my wife and my kids and we had a lovely time . We ordered seafood linguine which was the best I ever had and risotto pesche was amazing to . Service was very good ,very friendly and very helpful as my kids are very hard to be pleased . We will be back definitely . Thanks a lot guys .

Six of us had a wonderful evening at Gambero d'Oro last night. The food was great, the service was spot on and the atmosphere was relaxed. We feel very fortunate to have this little gem of a place in our home town

This restaurant was really lovely. It was easy to find and easy to park (small charge in the pub car park). We were 4 adults and 5 children and there was no problem seating us or serving us. There was a great menu to choose from and the food was plentiful and delicious. It was really clean and the staff were helpful and friendly. Would definitely return and recommend.

A lovely Italian with great food and friendly staff. So glad this is on our doorstep. The children love the pizzas and pastas and my parents always order the lasagne. A firm favourite restaurant in this family.

First visit here, even though I drive past most days.Food was gorgeous. A little more expensive than other local restaurants but worth it.Staff were attentive. If you are looking for a quiet meal out for two or a large table of friends, I would be happy to recommend.

I booked a table today for two of us at 4.00pm. The menu had so much choice and the food was delicious. Service and ambience really good, would definitely recommend, such a lovely change from chain restaurants. Will definitely be going back soon with the rest of the family.

Last minute change of plans and they were able to accommodate us with no problem. Not been before and felt that the tables were a little too close together - especially when you end up having to listen to the couple next to you...Shared a garlic pizza bread for starters and I had the Gambero D’oro which was very tasty and a decent portion. My partner had the chicken and mushroom risotto which was plentiful but I felt was lacking a little in taste - to the extent that although she couldn’t eat it all, I didn’t want to finish it - and I hate waste... Staff were nice and friendly. Reasonably priced.

Once again what a brilliant Saturday evening, the service was excellent as usual and as we took our four grandchildren all under six as well they could not have been more attentive to them especially as they can be a little bit fussy at times, we all had a good evening and as none of the family and been there before they have all said that they would make return visits. First time I’ve been here and wasn’t expecting such a lovely place and staff . Food was better than expected and will definitely be going again .

Good food at a resonable price with great service.Does not look much from the outside but nice insside the decors nice and modern ,. Food portions are big so be careful when you order as if you have the starter you may not be able to eat the main.Been here a couple of times now and it has never disappointed. Staff are polite and courteousRecommend booking in advance.

Not much else you can say other than best Italian in the area, including Southend. Always good food, fresh and authentic, friendly service and accommodating. We were there on the day all card machines went down, they just said to pay next time or when we’re passing.

I'd heard this place was good and it certainly didn't disappoint. We was a table of 4 and we all had 3 courses and we didn't have one complaint or criticism. The food was stunning the service was great in a lovely atmosphere we will definitely be going back.

We went here on a busy Saturday night , Couldn’t fault the service , The decors nice and modern ,had the garlic bread starter which was lovely but we both picked the wrong mains ... I had the chicken in breadcrumbs and tomato pasta and thats exactly what I got ,it was bland with no seasoning or flavour , it tasted exactly the same as spaghetti hoops and chicken escallops , ( and loads of it ) My partner had risotto , which she said was ok but nothing special ...Our choice of wine was very nice , overall no complaints , we will give it another go but will choose something different ,

The food and service was absolutely amazing. The environment was friendly and cosy. For me personally who suffers with ulcerative colitis the manager was brilliant. During the night had to go a few times, but got too the stage where I really needed the ladies, didn’t get my card out, but the manage must of seen I was desperate too jump the queue and asked me if I had as comfortable with the men’s......definitely said yes!Thank you so much and definitely going back for the food

Have been many times to the Gambero but unfortunately our last visit was one that means we will not be returning for a while. We booked for 6.30 as we had a birthday party to go to, but unfortunately our waiter forgot to put our order through and at 7.30 we still had not had any food. Told them to forget the starters as we had to be somewhere so just had our mains. Food not great either, very strong sage taste to the pizza, maybe some people like that but it was not to our taste.

Lovely food and great value... from the outside you might wonder ??? But inside is very modern. Excellent service and don’t be afraid to request a doggy bag as portions are very generous

2nd visit and both times not been wowed by the front of house. Really moody, if you don’t like it when it gets busy/tricky then change roles??! Luckily, our waiter was in better spirits and made the meal more enjoyable. Food good, no real surprises but no complaints. Wine was quite pricey and not particularly amazing for the price. It’s niceto visit once or twice but is not particularly memorable.

Me and my friend had dinner here last Friday. Food was really nice we both had a starter and a main and there is a range of different dishes. Service was good and the bottle of prosecco with dinner was lovely! A hidden gem from the outside, will definitely be returning.

We went to this restaurant for our anniversary with our son and his fiancé. We all had starters which were superb, there was all clean plates. We had some really good red wine, and the waiter was very attentive without us feeling he was hovering. The restaurant has a lovely relaxed atmosphere. We all had something different for mains my husband had steak, sons fiancé fish and I had a pizza and we all really enjoyed it. My pizza was so filling I took half it home and had for lunch next day it was so tasty. My son had the veal which he was very disappointed with and didn't eat however we weren't charged for it, and they did offer him something else. They were very apologetic and it certainly didn't spoil our evening. It is great to have a local Italian restaurant were you can have a relaxed evening with great food and wine. We will be going back

We visited this place on a recommendation and we wasn’t disappointed. Great food , great staff , great service !! Not one complaint from all 8 of us including a 3 year old who had tomato pasta and an 8 year old that had the mussels , olives and cheesecake to follow , he ate the lot ! Definitely would recommend and we will definitely be back !Steve, Sharon and family .

Went here on Wednesday night with my partner and we loved every minute. The food is very very tasty and cooked fresh and the service is the best ! The restaurant is so clean and it’s got a wonderful atmosphere.Very busy though so you have to book even in midweek. I would recommend to anyone and definitely keep going back !

Needed some good food but didn’t want to go out. Great option as a take away for Benfleet. Primavera pizza a winner. Knocks the socks off you know who’s delivery of pizzas

Definately recommend the food here, not at all busy but nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Small restaurant seats about 50 at a guess, clean and bright.

Very nice little restaurant that we have been meaning to try for ages, excellent menu with lots of choice and also have a decent set menu which is very reasonable. I opted for the skate wing, (not very Italian and not on the set menu), would defo recommend it!!!

Went for a mid week meal with friends. Great value for money - 2course and 3 course option. Asked if could change the mussels to prawns and they did with no extra cost. I have eaten here a few times now and all meals were delicious & service top quality. Already booked to go again in November with large family party.
