The best restaurants in Waveney East of England

My husband booked an overnight stay as a gift for my birthday as I’ve wanted to visit Beccles for sometime. The hotel is in a beautiful river front location Sadly that’s about all it has going for it The hotel website boasts luxury …. The decor is dated. Whilst I appreciate the building is old the furnishings in our room were poor The silicone around shower has mould The curtains literally threadbare from sunlight , stains on the carpet . We were really disappointed We ate in the restaurant on Friday evening and for breakfast the following morning, Although the food was nicely presented - sadly again it was all very average. Our starter lacked flavour. My poached egg was over cooked more like hard boiled eggs- The staff were very pleasant , though nobody was at the desk on check out to ask how our stay was Such a shame for my husband who thought he’d booked something special for me I can see that each bedroom on the website has its own identity Not sure if they are as basic as our one

We were all looking forward to my husbands 40th birthday but we were let down by the shocking service. We had to keep asking the waitress for drinks and we didn't have enough cutlery and the food was on the table and had to wait several minutes for forks. I'm afraid this venue had gone down the pan. It took ages for the food to be served and my ribs were so fatty I couldn't eat them but they did take them off the bill. My in laws steak was very tough so for a 40th birthday celebration was a 40th birthday disappointment! If you want decent food I would suggest going to Zak's in Great Yarmouth!

Have eaten here many, many times. This visit we both had The Oven Roasted Lemon Sole, New Potatoes & Samphire DELICIOUS!!! Followed by the best Cheese Boards I have had in AGES!! ( not stone cold, I hate that!) My Husband had the Chocolate Brownie, that he said was delicious. Went off my (2 glasses of wine rule) & had a third, as the Pinot was just TOO good not to. The young Man that served us was attentive & friendly.

We have enjoyed Harris & James elsewhere in Suffolk & Norfolk, mainly for the gelato. This time we went inside for a coffee/tea and a cake. The coffee and tea were OK, the cookies and cakes reasonable and the donut small. Service was average and the prices not cheap. OK but nothing special.

Amazing carvery, with good portion of meat and variety of vegetables. Friendly and helpful staff. Dogs welcome in bar area and outside. Can’t book bar area but plenty of tables when we went in. Pool table was a great extra and bouncy castle in garden.

Checked breakfast menu, no gluten free options shown. Tried to ring to check menu but got recorded message. Vegan, vegetarian catered for but not GF.

Full english breakfast. The best breakfast ever. Top quality products cooked to perfection. Nice ambience. Spotlessly clean.

Best fish and chips we have had in many years. Visited Pakefield from The Midlands and again had to have fish and chips and curry sauce. Never dissapointed 5 star

Crap service. Crap food, rude staff. Don't give a shit.

We visited here on a cold winter day. The drinks were hot and the cake choices were excellent, and very tasty (albeit a tad overpriced) The staff were very friendly. It was a shame that we were unable to sit inside to enjoy our purchases as the small seating area upstairs was occupied by a couple with a large dog, blocking the doorway. My partner is scared of dogs so we had to sit outside in the freezing cold where we watched several dogs with owners going into the store. Call me old fashioned but I do not think, anywhere that sells food should be allowing dogs in at all. It is just unacceptable to us. Dogs should be outside and if that means their owners have to sit outside, then rather them than us. Unfortunately, we do not revisit places that allow animals in, however good the produce.

We wanted coffee and a cake on Sunday. Tiptree is pleasantly decorated and spacious, and the service was good. There was a decent selection of cakes (and also light meals) and we were happy. Nothing to dislike.

Went for Christmas Dinner and dancing the meal was the worst that any of us had ever had the roast potatoes were so bad that you could not get a knife into them all dried up as was some of the veg .music was so loud we had to leave early

Fantastic service and delicious food in the private room. Private room was kept lovely and warm throughout the meal. Abbey and her staff were very efficient and it was rather nice having our names called out for food rather than the usual way of just calling out food type!!!! Salmon was fantastic as too was the fresh fruit salad. Two courses were plenty for most people due to the large portions. The initial welcoming tv fire 🔥 in main bar and was great even though no heat!!!!!’

This cafe is without doubt the BEST cafe I have ever been to and trust me I have been to a lot over the years. Service is fast and cheerful and everything is lovely and clean. Staff super friendly and they create a welcoming atmosphere . The food is consistently utterly FANTASTIC. Very highly recomemded. Well done the garden cafe team

Staying in Lowestoft with friends for a girly weekend and decided to visit iconic for lunch…have to say the food was outstanding..great value..came out quick..cocktails were delicious and reasonably priced…service was great beautiful place to visit we would highly recommend and look forward to returning thank you iconic you were an absolute delight
