Really lovely food. Ordered for 9 including Gluten Free and everyone was very happy. Large portions and all very well cooked. The battered Hutson sausage was amazing. Wish we lived near here but unfortunately we were only staying in the area.

I enjoy the food, I have never been here before. The batter on fish was very crispy which is a change from other chip shop 🙂

Finally have a Chip Shop that does Gluten Free. After years of not being able to go to the chippy for medical reasons, this chip shop now does Gluten free on Monday/Tuesday. You get good portions for your money and service with a smile. Definately recommend

Absolutely beautifully cooked fish, lovely and moist. light crispy battery. High quality fish Delicious scampi. Light and golden fluffy chips, clearly cooked in clean oil. This establishment keeps getting better and better. Immaculately clean. Well presented polite and friendly staff. You may have to wait, but we'll worth it. New management clearly setting very high standards. Highly recommended.

Great Gluten free menu and a nice family run takeaway everything cooked fresh to order .As a coeliac it's a really nice treat and wish other takeaways and restaurants see the gap in the market they are missing.

Fry to order, queues of up to ten people in the shop, and they don't deliver. All I can ask is WHY?

We haven't been here for over a year, the reason being, it had simply gone down hill. Hearing it was under new management, we gave it a go, we certainly wasn't disappointed. The quality of the cod, have improved. We ordered two cod and chips, have to say the cod was superb, the batter, lovely and light. The chips, nice and golden. No sign of any grease, huge improvement from previous visits. The new owners clearly know what they are doing. Better quality fish. Extremely highly recommended. Very impressive start.

Only stopped for sausage and chips spent hole dinner break waiting- nice chippy but way to slow when stopping at work!!!

Fabulous walk along Lowestoft promenade & we needed a lunch time drink in the sunshine. We didn't want to eat ,just s drink as we had a restaurant booked in the evening. We had a wine & a coffee & must say the fish & chips that were coming out looked amazing.

The sea food platters here were amazing. A huge selection of fish to choose from. We couldn’t manage it all so we’re allowed to take the leftovers home for another meal! All the staff were lovely.

Ordered two cod and chips. Cooked and ready at requested time. For collection Still lovely and hot. Light crispy battered moist cod. Nicely cooked chips. No sign of fat anywhere. We both enjoyed our meal. Great staff. Keep safe.

The shop been in place for years, the food is good and the service take away is reliable. Clean environment where the food is prepared

Even outside the covid situation, the opening and closing times are odd! I can only assume they take so much money they don't really care. Staff are pleasant and friendly, the fish is pretty good, but of course NOT as advertised, "from their own boats" ,It is delivered late at night to the freezers in a double garage at one of their homes , from the back of a refrigerated lorry. Sorry Solbay, but you should not fib!!

Chips taste fine....but a medium portion would be too small for a child. I would be embarrassed to serve them!

The fish and chips are good quality and taste great. The portion sizes are pathetic and overpriced. I ordered a large cod ( largest they had ). It was more like medium from all other chip shops. My wife had scampi which she referred to as “fried air holes “. The chip portion sizes are also small compared to others . This is a shame as it is a nice fish and chip shop apart from not being value for money. I will add a photo of a sole bay large cod compared to a 20 pence piece (which cost a fiver )!!!!!!

Ordered two cod and medium chips £11.50.freshly cooked to order. Lovley cod in a light crispy batter along with non greasy chips. Perfect lunch. Nice touch is the wedge of lemon that is offered. Polite friendly staff. Great food.

There are quite a few good fish and chip shops in Lowestoft but Sole Bay is definitely my favourite. Chips are nicely cut and well cooked. Fish comes in a few sizes but whatever size you choose they are always good. Overall recommend

I use this chippy a lot, and was so disappointed tonight, the skate (which is usually good) was off when I called the shop I was told by the fryer that the fish is FROZEN oh my life she said that when she took it out of the freezer this am it was fresh and then added “you know our fish is frozen right” thoroughly gobsmacked, anyway I went on to tell her that the fish smelled of ammonia, she was very polite and apologised but I was under the impression that their fish was fresh and not frozen, I have tried to call the southwold shop to get some clarification but to no avail, I think it’s important that we are aware that we are eating frozen off fish so that we can chose to go somewhere else. If the owner reads this please can you message a response as to why your customers are being misled thank you

Have been going here regularly, the fish is nice and fresh, however the portions which are described as large are hardly that although I can live with that. What I cannot live with is chips that are barely cooked and served tepid. Just how hard can it be? The staff who serve and cook are pleasant but it must be obvious to them that the chips are far from fresh or hot and have been hanging around for too long. Why can they not be refreshed in some hot oil it would be a great improvement. I am not the only person to mention this in reviews and I hope someone takes notice. I do not want to find an alternative fish and chip shop but sadly, if things don't improve I will have to. I am fed up paying for unnecessarily disappointing food.

Probamos este lugar dos veces, como uno de los más chippies. El pescado era genial, muy agradable, pero las patatas fritas en ambas ocasiones no eran muy buenas. Hay sin duda a cocinar patatas fritas y arte bueno, esto podría ser una muy rentable llevar si pueden conseguir sus fichas simplemente.

El mejor pescado y patatas fritas que he tenido! El personal es muy amable, y los niños las comidas son de un tamaño fantástico y un precio muy bueno. La comida siempre es fresco, así que sabes que estás recibiendo el mejor valor por su dinero. Realmente merece una parada para la hora del almuerzo o té :)

Fish and chips were really nice but omg the staff need to learn people skills three members of staff on the desk so happy I thought I was in a funeral parlour took a hour while these happy people were standing scowling please have some happy pills or leave!

Tuvimos que hacer cola (viernes noche) y esperar 10 minutos, pero valió la pena. El pescado estaba delicioso y macizos (abadejo) y las patatas fritas eran buenas. La salsa de curry (casero) era en realidad más peculiares y estropeado mi papas fritas. No pudimos averiguar qué era, pero era más que rosa naranja, no gusto mucho de curry y pensé que podía detectar un poco de rábano picante. Muy raro. Hay un pequeñísimo espacio del comedor (unos 5 mesas) y tuvimos la suerte de poder comer allí (taburetes y una ventana de estantería) como hacía frío afuera. Agradable imagen en mosaico de una tortuga en la pared junto a la que sirve.

Not as good as its sister restaurant but still very good for a takeaway. Curry sauce was not great (oddly and overly fruity) but beautifully cooked fish, nice light batter and good chips.

Fish is nice chips are at best average but it's hard work go in order take a ticket lala la .It's a chippy not a posh restaurant

The fish here is always beautiful, as is the other main food, however the chips are generally under cooked and the service is fairly slow, saying that, the people are very friendly, I would suggest that you call to order your food in advance to save the waiting and ask for the chips to have an extra long dip, I would visit again but pre order first

Always use this chippy,batter on the fish is excellent,very crispy and not greasy.Friendly staff,well worth the wait in the queue.

Tasty chips, good sized moist and flaky fish with crispy batter and hot and tasty mushy peas. All you want in a Fish and Chip supper. And very helpfully changed my order after I was a duffous (not for the only time �☺️) and mis-ordered...

I went to sole bay chip shop and asked for sausage chips and curry sauce and had to wait 20 minutes behind other customers waiting on big fish orders if I knew it would be that long I would have gone to Chinese next Door chips were all crunchy on the good side the shop was clean and inviting

Visited this Fish n Chip shop on a recent visit to Southwold.Fancied a bag of chips for me & the missus.SIX quid for two pathetic portions of chips & two drinks?!Someone is having a laugh.Strikes me as being a glorified Fish n chip shop catering for the tourist masses.Doubt if any locals come here now.They don't suffer fools lightly when it comes to charging these prices.Rip-off!

We are local to Southwold. When the fish & chip shop first opened up, we were absolutely thrilled with the quality, presentation, and size of portions. Not so now...

The best fish and chips always fresh and good sized portions . I always have chicken as I don`t like fish and always enjoy my meal. Even children are catered for as they provide childrens meals .

I feel so lucky that this fabulous fish and chip shop is 5 minutes walk from my house. Top quality fresh (not frozen) locally caught fish and beautifully cooked chips. My only complaint would be that I would like longer opening hours!

I'm surprised this chip shop is not a) higher in the ratings and b) has so few reviews! Maybe the regular clientele just want to keep it quiet so it doesn't get too busy and risk a drop in the quality!?

I went in with a friend to get fish and chips never used before but found to be the best ever had would recommend trying it you will not be unhappy

Despite living very close I only tried this recently when popping in to a nearby post office for postage stamps. The trade on that Friday lunchtime was steady and everything was cooked to order so there was a bit of a wait but the fish and chips were of a splendid quality....nice to be offered lemon on the fish in a takeaway.

One of the better fish and chip shops in Lowestoft. The fish is always fresh and the batter quite tasty. Do check and see when they're open. I would recommend going in rather than phoning because they get quite busy and it's best to have it all freshly made whilst there
