The fish was real fillets of haddock and cod with skin on, battered and cooked to perfection, too many yummy chips and two pickled onions! Shop looked shut but we wanted our first meal in England on the sea at Felixstowe and F&C! The only problem was the gullodauruses who demolished half of my wife’s haddock!

After a shaky start I would go back. We wanted to sit outside but old wooden picnic tables dirty so asked for a cloth to wipe it, gruffly told we don’t have cloths for outside, but go some tissue to wipe it down as best we could. We then asked for a high chair but they only had one, which luckily we did get by the time our food came, which was a little while. BUT read on. Our food was very good and very good value, well presented and the serving staff were very friendly and seemed to be working their socks off on a very busy day. I had Prawn Marie Rose baked potato which came with a nice little salad and pot of coleslaw for £9. Other orders were a tuna baked potato, battered sausage and chips and a kids fish and chips which would have served an adult! I think this was £4.75. Delicious fish not too greasy batter and good chips. I didn’t go inside so can’t comment on ambience etc. outside seating was lovely by sea wall.

Went to Fisherman's Wharf as a family unit based on food recommendations. Sat outside, however food not being served (not the venues fault) two drinks were purchased, reentered to order further drinks informed that they were no longer serving. Went across the way to the far better new venue and got drinks returning to the outside seating. We were told that we could drink from other establishments (despite not serving us and in the process of closing) informed that the FW wasn't open to further orders and informed the same that we cannot drink there basically throwing out the family from the public pier! The rude drinks collector attempted to take a drink placed o the table 1/3 full seemingly in response to believing that it was from another venue. Proceeding to argue that it was 'done and empty'. We left and sat at the other venue unable to understand why the bar staff had such an attitude problem and working outside of the family friendly inclusive ideology I was led to believe. I would recommend that NOONE fo here instead go to the newer venue which was pleasant polite and engaging. MANNERS DONT COST ANYTHING

Shame about the 2 female staff (1st august) Food was fab as it had been a few years back when I was last on holiday in Norfolk. The staff were very short boarder line goby to some of the customers. Some of which just left immediately. Also I can’t see the need to be asked 20 questions About what I’m trying to order. A large sausage and chips is a large sausage and chips! (Not battered) Also all the cod and haddock was mixed up and they clearly didn’t know what they were giving you!

husband and myself turned up at this place to try to get a spot of lunch and take in the local area, no information relating to their Covid protocols around getting service, so we went to the service area to place our order before sitting at a table. Place had only 6 customers in there; that should have been the warning for us to leave there and then... Staff literally completely ignored us, wouldn't make eye contact, wouldn't even crack a smile, let alone acknowledge us even being in there. Stood for 10 mins waiting to be served, purse at the ready... ignored entirely... We left without ever getting so much as a hello let alone food... Won't ever go back, found somewhere much better further down the promenade, clearly not bothered whether they have customers or not Unprofessional, unhelpful and none existent customer service, don't even bother turning up - go to the Claremont...

This is the second time we have visited this perfectly situated pub in Lowestoft. The first time we just enjoyed a drink and sat outside to admire the view and this time we decided have a meal as well. We both had the cheeseburger meal that came with chips, salad and 3 huge onion rings. The meal was fantastic and was so big we couldn't finish it. They had Ghost Ship on tap which pleased my husband. The inside of the pub is lovely and the staff are friendly. Highly recommend this pub.

Visited on Sunday 28th July with my family, It was our intention to sit outside and enjoy the surroundings, have a bite to eat, enjoy a few pints from Fisherman’s Wharf and visit the arcade with our young daughter. I entered the empty restaurant and asked for 3 portions of chips and a sausage and was told that I would have to order them from the takeaway section. Inconveniently the card machine was not working and after 10 minutes of faffing around I received my order and took it outside to the picnic benches, it then started to rain so we picked up our chips and headed back indoors to the empty restaurant to take shelter and finish our chips, we were promptly approached by a member of staff who said we were not allowed to eat takeaway food in the restaurant (despite originally trying to order it from the restaurant) and asked us and my soaking wet 4 year old daughter to leave, I looked around at the empty restaurant and questioned his motive to which he responded “rules are rules”, we were then promptly ushered out of the premises.A little discretion from the jobsworth staff on duty was all that was required here, but they are no doubt following some ridiculous draconian management policy, a complete shambles of an operation, needless to say we finished our chips (in the rain) and went to the Claremont, as a result the establishment have potentially loss out on a £30 – £40 spend and we will never return.

Have eaten here a few times; twice the food had to go back as either uncooked or over cooked. It's a lovely spot for a relaxing pint overlooking the beautiful sea and promenade, however while the assistant bar staff are great, the guvnor is a miserable *&$% who needs to be sent on a customer service training course. Had a flat pint recently, and when I asked for a replacement, he threw the contents of my pint into another glass, said "that's livened it up now bu***r off" and walked off. I am a regular, and have spent plenty of time / £ here but I shan't be back due to appalling attitude towards customers. Go and have a pint in the immaculate and friendly Harbour Inn instead.

I ordered from the take-away, the doorway to which is on the corner of the building, and I think it cost me only £6. We had a couple of hours to kill before we could access our holiday cottage in Pakefield, Lowestoft, so we decided to venture into the middle of Lowestoft town. I’d never been to Suffolk before and the other half hadn’t been there since he was a kiddie so it was all pretty new to us. Eventually, we parked at the seafront at Lowestoft and mooched around for a bit. It was approaching lunch-time and, as we require dog-friendly pubs and restaurants, our options are always somewhat limited. After mooching around some more, I steered the gang towards the Fisherman’s Wharf on the seafront because it was near the car, it was dog-friendly, we could have some lunch sooner rather than later and I could have a glass or two of wine. Before our holiday, I had already listed the Fisherman’s Wharf as a possibility but added a comment to my notes stating that ‘there may be other, better places to go to’ because the reviews were quite varied. And, indeed, there may be other, better places to go in Lowestoft but we were more than happy with our lot. The Fisherman’s Wharf is a good, no-frills, seafront bar/restaurant on the pier that you may just walk right past (as we did initially), it’s dog-friendly, child-friendly, has a pool table and does a cracking fish and chips. Without exception, the staff were helpful, friendly and accommodating. The toilets were spotless. I had fish and chips for lunch and both were spot-on - I don’t like batter that is overly thick and crispy. The cod was fresh, chunky, cooked just-so and the batter was melt-in-the-mouth – just how I like it. There was some salad (another tick) plus the usual peas (mushy, in my case) and tartare sauce. The red wine was pretty basic but perfectly drinkable. There is seating outside and we were very lucky to catch this year’s fine October weather. All in all, a great experience and I would go back for the fish and chips alone.

We visited on a midweek afternoon in a sunny October day. The place doesn’t look much from the outside, but just through the takeaway shop is a lovely restaurant. We took a seat and ordered at the counter. All the staff were polite, friendly and efficient. We both ordered cod & chips which comes with mushy or garden peas, tartare sauce and a lemon wedge. We also had bread & butter, some scraps and teas. The service was very good and the food excellent. The fish was perfectly cooked and piping hot, chips were good but could’ve been a little crispier. We asked for the little teapots to be refilled with hot water for a second cup of tea: it wasn’t a problem and cost nothing. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and would recommend it to anyone looking for great fish & chips from a “proper” chippie. You also get a sea view and avoid the rather aggressive seagulls!

Lovely young lady informed us that this end was closed but if we ordered she would bring food through to bar next door. We ordered the gourmet burgers. When they arrived it was obvious that they were freshly cooked and why they were called gourmet. The burgers were huge and tasty with crispy lettuce, tomato and a lovely relish. They were each topped with 3 crispy onion rings. The burgers came with a bucket of crispy skinny fries each and were garnished with a very tasty salad. It's really lovely and whoever did the interior design has done a superb job.As to the fish and chips they were fresh, beautifully presented and tasted great. The views of the stunning Lowestoft beach and sea are the best I've seen anywhere, it really is a magnificent spot to eat, drink and admire the stunning coastline. And as if that all isn't enough, they also sell Suffolk Aspall Cyder, which is the best cider in the world having won several international awards. All in all the best venue for great cider, food and unrivalled views. Personally I would avoid it at busy weekend times when no doubt it's heaving with tourists and probably choose mid-week, early evening.

My wife and I were staying in the Lowestoft area for a few days with friends. On one of the days we took a trip into Lowestoft and after a stroll round the front decided we needed a drink. It was a bright cold morning and we needed a hot drink to warm up so we went into the Fisherman's Wharf pub/restaurant, which advertised hot drinks on a board outside. I went up to the bar and when I ordered a tea and a coffee the barman pulled a face and uttered something under his breath. He poured the drinks and I said we did not need any sugar. He said he had to give us sugar anyway. When he gave me the cups I took the sugar sachets off and handed them to him so he could use them again and he again grunted and simply threw them into the bin. I thought this was quite bizarre and unnecessary behaviour. We had our drinks and left. The drinks themselves were perfectly acceptable. The decor was reasonably attractive. The food that was brought to other customers looked appetising. Perhaps I caught the barman on a bad day - who knows? His boorish behaviour would not encourage me to spend any more money there and if and when I return to Lowestoft I will not be going back to Fisherman's Wharf.

We ended up in Lowestoft on a cold February Saturday. We stumbled upon the South Pier and both recognised the smell of what we call "lardy chips". But from where was the smell coming? There were two chip shops near one another. My wife, an ethnic Scot was practically frantic with excitement and anxiety at the prospect of a chip cooked properly, but the possibility of the wrong choice being made! The one thing she misses about Scotland are chips cooked in lard. Oh and deep fried haggis. And scotch pies. Red cola too. Actually cheesy pasta now I come to think about it. Quite a number of things are missed if truth be told but lardy chips are definitely among them and uniquely among the list of things here, are actually edible. The take away was open but I didn't want to huddle in the cold. The restaurant it was linked to was closed but the pub next door was open and turned out to have its food prepared by the take away. Could be a result if the chips were cooked in lard. I went to the bar and asked if the chips were cooked in lard. I was told no-they were cooked in beef dripping. Actually far more specific than our generic descriptor and absolutely what my wife wanted to hear. Whilst she danced on the table with her skirt pulled up over her head I ordered the food. The wife ordered fish and chips and I went for the gourmet burger with cheese. This came with thin chips and in hindsight I should have asked for the lardy chips too. What a fool I was. By the time I returned with the drinks my wife had formed the other diners into a choir and they were singing a song about the merits of beef dripping and death to vegetarians. All very festive. When the food arrived my wife let out a yelp as she inhaled the aroma of the chips. They were well cooked as was the fish and its fair to say it was a meal well enjoyed. My burger was I am afraid to say mediocre with little about it gourmet, which was a pity, but did not spoil the meal for my wife and it was for her that we were there. I should say the pub is a nice little place overlooking the south beach. We sat watching the waves whilst we waited for our food which came quick enough. The service was good and the staff friendly. We rather liked it and the rating would be higher if the burger had been better. For the fish and chips it would have been a five. I returned the glasses to the bar and on my return found my wife collecting signatures on a petition to have the chef installed as the next Pope.......

This pub has a great atmosphere, right on the pier. Staff are so friendly & chatty it's also refreshing to see the owner mingling & asking how things are. The beer is good & the hot drinks a blessing on a cold day! The food is great value for money & brought to your table. 10/10 guys!

My husband and I had a day trip out to Lowestoft and fancied fish and chips for lunch. Was not a particularly nice lunch. Chips must have been reheated at least once, they were rock hard and had a peculiar, unpleasant taste. Would not recommend.

Plenty of them, soaked in oil or whatever else they cook them in. Left a foul taste in the mouth afterwards & none of us ate all of them. Had we not been on a budget we'd have binned them after the first mouthful & gone elsewhere.

I was astonished to find a sea fronted pub closed at 8pm in high season, when we asked they said there is no business at that time but if they have a reputation for closing at 8pm of course no on will go, also in this day and age I would expect free WiFi when asked they said its for their personal use, another reason why people will stay away as too many places offer it free, some of the staff are very unfriendly and make sure you feel unwelcome by putting up chairs onto their tables and locking the doors as 8pm approaches, this could be a wonderful pub under the right managment

The restaurant is really nice to look at and in a beautiful location on the seafront at Lowestoft as part of the South Pier. We arrived there at 7.30pm on a Friday evening and decided to stop for a drink as it was a beautiful evening in August. We were barked at by the man behind the bar that he was closing in half an hour earlier if he could get rid of everyone!!! He practically threw the change at me and was really rude. He turned away several customers who had stopped for a drink! A little girl asked to use the toilet and he nearly had her in tears, there was a sign on the door which said toilets were for patrons use only, but she was only about 5 and he did not need to speak to her like he did. He was the most unwelcoming host I have ever come across.

We went here for dinner after spending the day at the beach. Can't fault the service or the food. Portions were a good size and good value for money. My other half also enjoyed the old school music being played. Staff very friendly and happy to help.

Ok for a drink after a walk around and ok for a snack but nothing else. Nothing special at all in my opinion.

Went on a windy, cloudy day. It was very nice inside and had a really nice ambiance. Of course on a pier side restaurant, you choose the fish and chips. I had the haddock but you can choose from a variety of fish. It was a big piece, served with fresh chips.

This is one of our favourite places for fish and chips in Lowestoft. The service is pleasant and cheerful and we have never been disappointed by the fish and chips (and mushy peas!). A good selection of drinks is available from the adjacent bar. The only thing to watch out for is at they close early is there is no trade. You can't blame them for that but we have been disappointed on more than one occasion because we arrived just too late.

There were 4 in our party who all ordered different. Didn't look much from the outside but was impressed once we placed the order.( All the food was nicely presented} .We was particularly impressed when the bartender confirmed what food was dressed with in case anyone had any allergies.Nice to see an establishment which serves a good old fashioned cup of coffee alongside all the fancy coffees. {I can't be the only oldie that doesn't like the fancy coffees that everywhere seems to serve).

Stopped for a quick bite near the seaside. Beautiful views and an option to eat in or out to enjoy the scenery. Staff and Food are great. Especially impressed with Dominic! He was very helpful and accommodating. Not very often that you find staff willing to go the extra mile for their customers. Definitely worth visiting again!

We were visiting Lowestoft with our greyhound so needed to find somewhere for lunch which was dog friendly. We had looked on line before making our journey so headed off to the recommended tea rooms only to find it was closed. We popped in to the local tourist board office and were recommended to try Fisherman's Wharf pub. We were glad that we did. The staff were very welcoming and immediately produced a bowl of water for our dog. Food (and beer) was great. Just what we needed and reasonably priced. It is quite basic in terms of decor - typical pub - and is next door to the fish and chip restaurant which I believe provides the food for the restaurant. Jacket potatoes fish and chips chicken pieces sandwiches etc were all available. The pub overlooks the sea and is situated in the square very close to the shopping centre. We would certainly go back again.

We caught a bus from pontins which didn't take long at all . We walked to the pier and had mid morning coffee & biscuit. We sat outside and it was just perfect. One of the best views in this area . Lowestoft is actually the most easterly point in the United Kingdom . The staff were so happy and helpful and I would recommend this place .

I popped into this pub on the South Quay at Lowestoft for lunch. They offer a wide range of fish and chip dishes but I fancied something a little different. I ordered the Gourmet Burger and hoped for the best. The barman said it was a good choice and his personal favourite. He also said as the burgers where made to order and quite thick there would be a 20 - 25 mins wait. This was OK with me.As I was waiting the chef came over and asked what type of cheese I wanted on the meat and offered mature cheddar as his suggestion which I accepted. When the meal came it was well presented and the side salad was a delicious mix of shredded beetroot and rocket in a vinaigrette dressing. The burger was also top quality. I would highly recommend this place for a meal when next you are in Lowestoft.

Always the one we go to when down town, not the best in Lowestoft but definitely best down beach, no where near as busy as the other one but better food! We go sit at the benches near the pub next door or up near the harbour, lovely views

After what was a warm day on the beach I took my family to the restaurant attached to the wharf pub and although we were tempted by the amazing food coming out we decided to use the takeaway as it was too hot to eat inside although we were still given the option of plated meals we chose good old wrapped fish and chips, when we got there the que was out the door however there was one guy on the till ushering people to que properly and the other guy frying asking if and what needed frying, to reduce wait time when we got to the front of the que an apology was mad and what can only be described by welcoming staff with an equally welcoming attitude, then can the food again as awesome as the service the food and portion sizes were served were epic!! The only problem being was that the que was still so big I couldn't get seconds :) never have I tasted fish so fresh chips so fluffy and enjoyed a sea side meal like this !!!! I understand from the recent reviews people moaned about the wait but I'd like to state when a place sells food as good and fresh as this you must be prepared for a wait !!! Unfortunately I didn't get to take a piccy but don't be fooled by the picture added as that looks like The £1 kids potion my 6 year old was served which might I add was too much for him !!! Some times people in this world wand too much for nothing I however would have that meal all over again thanks guys keep up the good work !!!! And hopefully as promised I see you next Tuesday for our restaurant booking !!!!

A quick dash to get some seaside chips to supplement what our children were having for tea. Ordered a large chips, but only after the people in the queue behind me had been served first (must be a Suffolk tradition!). Portion size was pretty minute (yes, that is a large portion in the picture!), luckily our children have small appetites, chips were also very average in comparison to other seaside resorts.

As a local I don’t use the cod house but happened to be close so tried it but it was very disappointing The fish was dripping in oil and the batter was soggy. The battered sausages looked like they’d been cooked about 4 hours earlier and only half covered in soggy batter There are much better chip shops in the town so avoid this one !

Eagerly awaited my Friday chip shop treat. This week I was indulging my Friday treat in Kirklee Run. The chippy had a huge fatheringmof customers which is always a great indication of things to come. Advertised in the window was their meal deals and for £3.85 I had chips, 2x sausage and curry sauce. Piping hot and tasty was my overriding thoughts. They accept card as well which is always a winner...

If you love our visit North Lowestoft and fancy some really good fish & chips, you won't beat going to Pips in Queens Road, beautifully cooked and very reasonable prices. Try the XL Cod but only if you're hungry! !
