Fish and chips good, service slow on a Fri night due to so many online orders. The server forgot the salt and vinegar, which kind of spoilt the chips as we obviously didn't realise until we were home, dissapointing.

Eagerly awaited my Friday chip shop treat. This week I was indulging my Friday treat in Kirklee Run. The chippy had a huge fatheringmof customers which is always a great indication of things to come. Advertised in the window was their meal deals and for £3.85 I had chips, 2x sausage and curry sauce. Piping hot and tasty was my overriding thoughts. They accept card as well which is always a winner...

Fish was soft, fresh and tasty while the batter was crispy and delicious. Chips were cooked nicely too. Lovely staff, polite, friendly and chatty. Good portions and very reasonable prices. They have great lunch time specials for affordable prices too. Have to try a fish in chips in any new town I visit near the sea. This was one of the best I've had, nearly up there with Henley's of Wivenhoe.

This is a go-to chippy, cooked to perfection every time and not greasy and they also do an amazing buthchers sausage.

Really good fish and chips, had freshly cooked battered cod which was really nice. Staff were friendly and helpful, prices are reasonable. 1 star off food as the curry sauce was thin and a bit tasteless.

Have used this chip shop for 15+ years. John and the girls are always warm, welcoming and chatty. The food is always hot, fresh and tasty. By far the best chippy in lowestoft :)

If you don't pre order the staff don't seam to like it quite rude if your not very precisewith your ordering.. Good food though.

Butchers sausages were revolting.The batter was sloppy.You could peel it off leaving an anemic falic looking object. Straight in the bin. Chips barely cooked.No crisp to them. A waste of money.

Absolutely appauling behaviour from the owner! The girls that work there lovely but the customer service off the man who owns it not so much! Referred to my partner to one of his employees as an "idiot" because we made a telephone order and he told her not to serve him yet as others were in the queue waiting (yet its the point of a telephone order to save queuing) always swearing!!! And the way he speaks to his staff is diabolicle!! Will not eat from here for this reason!! Never known rudeness like it!!!! Happened a few times now it puts you off going in there.

Prices very reasonable and tasty chips

Usually the foods ok. Today the special comes with curry sauce and it was water. The last time I went I ordered the special and when I got home there was only chips and no sausage. Time for a new chippy.

This is by far our favourite chippy in Lowestoft. Even though we don’t live as close to it anymore, we wouldn’t think of going elsewhere. Perfect chips and large fish.

Tasty chips, fish batter was a little underdone, bit stodgy inside. Cod goujons were more batter than fish

The food here is my favourite, the spring rolls are better than the ones I used to get previously. Their is some great lunch time deals, and I just love the getting off cheesy chips (my favourite 😃).

Absolutely horrific, i went today (29/3/22 for lunch, first visit and the last, i bought two of the lunch time sausage meals, the gravy was microwaved in a tub, and was like jelly when i got back to work with it, the batter on the sausages was crispy on one side, soggy on the other, and well over cooked, the chips were overdone, brown on the outside yet firm on the inside, i like to salt my own food, this was obviously not allowed, the two women serving were just yapping, yap yap yap to each other constantly instead of concentrating on serving, the whole meal was greasy and didn't smell good at all, the seagulls ended up fed even if my workmate and i didnt.

Normally this place gets 5 stars as the food is normally excellent. Last weekend however, I had to throw my fish away, as it was cooked until the flesh was completely dry and leathery. The batter had some extremely dark areas and some that was white. I drive a fair distance, passing other chip shops to get to this one. I believe every food outlet has their off days and will give it another chance, as it has only let me down on a couple of occasions...I've not complained to the shop yet, as it is a distance to travel if not passing.

Poor service food warm, didn't receive whole order had to go back and pick up chicken sandwich that had been ordered and played for but not given. Wouldnt recommend

Waited in the pouring rain for over forty minutes having placed a phone order only to have a new customer enter the shop and placed her order in person and left with ten minutes while several other customers awaited our orders outside in the rain. We have been customers for many years but we will not be using the Golden Fish ever again.

This is my first visit to this chip chop and I can say that my chips were average quality, with a reasonable quantity for a large portion and a price that is roughly what I expected. I also got served fairly quickly. The major downside was that the person serving me didn't offer me any salt and vinegar, they just wrapped it up without asking me. It wasn't even busy and I was the only one there at the time. I was a bit disappointed by this when I got home but luckily I have some salt and vinegar at home so not a total disappointment

Well orded on the phone as the app dint work ? The person took my order and gave me a number . I said in 25mins ....... Well 45 mins later . Still waiting to get food after my time ?. Food was OK nothing special.

The pensioner meal is very good value, it is £4.50 for a sensible sized fish and chips. Cooked from fresh, so a slight delay, there are some benches and a few tables within walking distance, over looking the sea, who could ask for more???

It was very very busy and they prefer customers to order over the phone. I asked for large skate and cod and was not disappointed.

My wife and I had large and medium haddock sat night 5th June, pre-ordered, and picked up at 5pm, ate them on Pakefield Beach free car park- down from Pakefield Plaice. Without a doubt, Golden Fish -on Blackheath Road, is the benchmark. Our fish was large, crispy golden batter-just a smidgeon of milky batter.The batter flavour was delicious, the fish-white (sign of freshness) Without doubt, in my opinion, the best in Lowestoft that I have experienced. The large haddoch was an unbelievable £5.80😇 so reasonable, unlike some of the local chippies-who are having it off. The chips were well-cooked and dry-absolutely lovely😉 The staff are friendly and attentive, well done girls💃💃💃 10/10 Golden Fish

Very long wait for food. Couldn't put my own salt and vinegar on it, but had to have what the server put on instead. Have to wait outside in the rain, until number called, but they were doing phone orders before waiting customers. Chips tasted nice, when I finally got them, but not worth the 45 minute wait.

I have been using the Golden Fish for many years before, but hadn't really given thought to writing a review, so I am now putting that right. All orders are cooked fresh so there can be a little waiting but it's worth waiting for. The shop responded positively to the COVID challenges by reconfiguring the layout of the store and extending the ordering option to include an App and online orders. I prefer to ring them up, and under COVID you wait outside the store until your order number is called on the loudspeaker...it all works very well, but the small size of the shop means only one person is allowed inside at a time, so bear this in mind if the weather isn't good. The staff are friendly, and John is an excellent fryer. I usually order my fish batter to be 'well done' and the fish is cooked to order, tastes lovely, and the crispy batter is just as we like it. Occasionally if the fish is a little on the small size John throws in an extra fish, which always goes down well.I have eaten fish and chips in many restaurants, pubs and chippies around the country and I haven't found anywhere better than the Golden Fish...so pleased it's almost on my doorstep. Highly recommended.

Just had there lunchtime special of cheeseburger, chips and onion rings for only £2.75 fantastic value and very tasty. Been going to the golden fish for over 25 years now and I think John the owner /fryer has had it all that time allways produces great tasting quality food.

Have been going to the golden fish for a year now and the food is always delicious,sometimes a que but it is worth the wait, they have coped so well at keeping customers from waiting to long considering the COVID 19 pandemic, you can order your food by phone to be picked up at a certain time or order when you get there, all of the staff are friendly and the fish is delicious and the chips are amazing!John is the best fryer in all of the fish and chips shops I’ve ever been too.Highly, Highly recommend.

Always receive great service and good quality food. Just had the best Haddock I have had in a long while, thank you Golden Fish; the lady fryer there is brilliant. We dont go anywhere else, they are so good.

The fish was cooked to perfection. The chips seemed over cooked in our opinion, the curry sauce was really runny with little or no taste.

Maybe we got it on a bad day? Fish was good but the chips weren't brilliant.

Good old fashioned chip shop. Always huge queues, which reflects how good they are...worth the wait! No chemical extended oils used here. Lovely fresh fish, cooked to perfection. My only gripe is that they have NBC instead of real vinagre, but I always have a supply of the real thing at home, so not a problem.

Not in my local area but worth the 3 mile drive on a weekend between Xmas and NY to get quality, local fish n chips. Importantly skate available and am sure this is local FRESH fish. Good.

The best Fish and Chip shop in Lowestoft! Friendly staff from the koi Ute you walk in the door. The cod is tasty and the batter nice and crunchy. Chips are fat and fluffy, great value too.

I was disappointed. Fish was soggy and batter wasn’t tasty. Chips were just okay. Does not surpass Atlantic Fish Bars fish (highly recommended and their app includes a loyalty card!!), or Dolphins chips. AFB is my favorite fish and chips shop so far out of all the places I’ve been to so far in the area.

Friendly staff. Owner incredibly experienced and knowledgeable. Flaky soft plaice, light and crispy not overly oily batter. Chips were fluffy and cooked to perfection. I have finally found a place by the sea that knows how to make proper Fish and chips. If you haven't been go, coz like me I won't be going anywhere else from now.
