This cafe is without doubt the BEST cafe I have ever been to and trust me I have been to a lot over the years. Service is fast and cheerful and everything is lovely and clean. Staff super friendly and they create a welcoming atmosphere . The food is consistently utterly FANTASTIC. Very highly recomemded. Well done the garden cafe team

Fantastic cafe ! Have been here a few times before and every visit is spot on. Kind staff and the food is always fresh with good quality ingredients. The price is also very fair with a large menu. To top it off they have plenty of indoor seating as well as a lovely garden area complete with koi pond. would very much recommend to anyone visiting the area.

Came to the cafe yesterday with my family for breakfast and we weren’t disappointed. From the moment we walked in we noticed how lovely and clean the cafe is, a real traditional homely feel. Always a good sign when almost all the tables were full of customers. We were greeted by very friendly and helpful staff who listened to our needs. We had 2 large breakfasts and 2 children’s meals, the sausages were possibly the best we’ve tasted and the children’s meals were very generous in size. This will definitely be a regular place for us eat from now on.

Popped in here whilst passing to have breakfast. The welcome from the girl behind the counter couldn't have been any worse. Not even a smile and just about got a grunt out of her. The place was filthy and could cut the tension with a knife so we vacated pretty sharply and WILL NOT be returning. Used to visit regularly many years ago and it used to be amazing but now I'm not sure how they survive by serving up that customer service.

I hadn't been in the cafe for quite some time, but always enjoyed the food in there in the past so strolled in today thinking it'd all be as good as ever. It's not, if wasn't! The service was by a young chap who I reckon would rather not be there. There was a young lady cooking in the kitchen who was coughing and hacking away. At the same time there was a little girl running in and out of the kitchen. The floor in the kitchen looked like used rubber garage mats (all of this is so unsanitary I can't believe food hygiene inspectors pass this). As for the food - inedible. I ordered a fry up, it was so greasy and tasted so vile that I couldn't even look at it after 5 minutes. Rubber yellow greasy eggs, bacon that seemed to have been sweated in grease, toast that had butter painted on with a roller etc. This place has really gone downhill and I'll definitely not be returning.

Excellent, sensitive service with great insight into needs of older people. Thanks to the team. I came here a few days ago with a few of my friends and their children for lunch, it was a warm day so we decided to sit out in the garden. We ordered our lunch and arrived ok, I ordered the jacket potato with cheese and beans with coleslaw which I left as I’m on the slimming world plan. It wasn’t busy when we were there but the staff did seem rushed off their feet but the girl serving was very pleasant. I don’t know why but it seemed to have lost the atmosphere and spark it used to have with the customers somehow. I do like it there as it’s very relaxing sitting in the garden, just wish there was a bit more on the menu and a bit better quality food.

O.M.Goodness, what ever has helped here. I have been coming here for years and have never been dissappointed untill today. Called in for a breakfast, ordered, looked for a clean table and chair, surprised at the dirty floor and tables, considering this was 2nd January and I was possibly the first person in since 31st December, the mess was possibly 2 days old. Anyway the coffee was good but when the breakfast arrived the beans were cold, the mushrooms were cold, the egg was cold, the bacon was cold, the plate was cold, but the sausage was hot. Probably because I asked for the sausage to be well done. I ate the sausage only and left the rest. I was offered another breakfast but decided to go elsewhere for a decent breakfast. I have all ways followed the advice of a restaurant critic which is, if things go wrong in the first 5 minutes, then everything else will go wrong, I have found this to be sound advice. It's the most expensive sausage and brown sauce I've ever had, but at least I will know where not to go for a breakfast ever again.

I’ve been coming to this cafe quite regular recently with my husband and son. We enjoy coming here throughout the week for our lunch and sometimes breakfast. The food it’s outstanding, it’s always how we want it! Hot, well done and we’re not waiting long at all! We came last Sunday for the lovely roast, we were expecting the service and food to be as good as the last we came in what was a weekday, but I’m sad to say today(Sunday)the 2 girls at the counter really have change our perspectives. We understand we came in at a quite busy time but we I really did not expect that kind of attitude toward us customers, whilst 1 of the girls took my order she seemed like she didn’t want to be there, angry kind off attitude which I didn’t seem to understand. I didn’t take it personal until when she asked which table I sat at, I pointed at my table and she sniggered and made some sort of face as it felt like were weren’t good enough for her to be in here. After waiting 5 minutes for me and my husbands coffee, I couldn’t believe what they had served me, my latte had more foam than the actual coffee and my Americano had to much in the cup, I politely ask if she wouldn’t mind tipping a little bit out so I wouldn’t spill it, she took the cup out of my hand ficiously and tipped more than half out. I was honestly shocked on how these girls were serving people, normally there are these other 2 girls,1 with black hair with shaved at the back, she super friendly and such a lovely person she really does try with everyone who walks through the door and then the other girl with the hair up in a pony tail or bun, as the young girl said depends on her mood! She is a real star, she makes the customers feel at home and she’s always laughing which really does change our moods and all the others, staff like these 2 girl really do give the cafe a boost. Maybe those girls need proper training and some real manners. This isn’t a bad reviews on the cafe! I will keep coming here, but sadly not on Sunday’s anymore, I do hope my problem get sorted as i would feel horrible if this was happening to other people and their family’s. Thank you. Susan Y.

If you're passing through Bungay and you want somewhere cheap to eat with hearty portions and traditional cafe fayre then a visit to the Buttercross Tearooms (or Bungay Cafe as we've always called it) is a MUST! You'll really feel like you're stepping back in time, to somewhere in the mid 1980s with the woodchip wallpaper, painted wooden cladding, lino floor and school canteen-style container where you pick up your knives and forks - but look beyond this and check out the menu. Pretty much every breakfast combination you could ever wish for is on there. On the blackboard you'll see pie and chips, roast dinners and proper puddings like apple pie in custard, spotted dick and suchlike. There's no faffing around with teapots either - you get a mug of builder's tea with full fat milk in it and if you want sugar, the pot is on the counter.I absolutely LOVE this cafe and have nursed a good few hangovers here over breakfast (the sausages are proper bangers) as well as having lunch here during Saturday shopping. If you like contemporary country surroundings then go somewhere else, but if you want guaranteed good food like your grannie used to make, in a bustling atmosphere filled with gossip and news, then definitely come here.

Only complaint is families who don't keep children in check or clear up the chips etc they leave all over floor and table.
