The restaurant was mostly empty, surprising as they had asked us to change our booking time due to being busy. We were told on arrival that they had run out of some ingredients, meaning half of the already limited menu was unavailable. We were offered a dish that wasn’t on the menu, but had been popular. Most of us ordered that, as there were not many options left. The dish was fried chicken on béchamel sauce, with fries. The dish was awful the sauce made the fried chicken soggy, and I have never seen an authentic Italian throw chips on top of chicken, well they do here. We asked for the service charge to be removed as the seats we were in you could smell drains and we were not able to order what we wanted. I would simply avoid eating here. Not worth the money.

Exceptionally tasty, genuine food. Had a veggie breakfast, and it was the most delicious ensamble of soft scrambled eggs, ball-shaped hashes, and fresh mushrooms I have had in years and years. All locally sourced, I'm told. Shame it shuts down at 3pm, but they deserve every client and every penny they can get. Friendly young staff, cordial and easy-going. A gem within another gem, Berkhamsted dreamy town. Will become a regular.

Had breakfast at Black Goo and despite arriving when they had just opened, they were only just able to give us a table as everyone else had booked. So prebook before you climb the 4 flights of stairs to reach this cafe. The bubble and squeak was interesting as it included carrots, cauliflower as well as cabbage. But it was an excellent breakfast and the servings are big. Saturday is definitely not a day to go there for a quiet cuppa as it is very popular with families.

A nicely decorated and chilled place. The lady on the till was very friendly. Definitely somewhere to go for drink in between shopping.

Love this cafe. It’s very convenient for me to visit after school drop offs. Very helpful friendly staff. Sometimes they have special offers for scones so I get coffee and scone for £4 which is great. If there is no special offer then I just get a coffee. Good selection of pastries but not a good selection of cakes. The hot food is all prepacked so I would never try it as it can never be good. I like going to cafes that prepare fresh food (affordable) and nice breakfast which you can’t really find in this Waitrose cafe unfortunately. But I love this cafe for my coffee stops.

I was very underwhelmed. The veggie breakfast had a quorn sausage that seemed to have been microwaved, the tomatoes had be whispered to by a grill and the hashbrowns were burnt on the outside and greasy and cold in the middle. We waited 50 minutes for our food and it all came out at different times. Three of ordered the same dish but they all came out differently. Honestly, it really really wasn't worth the money. I genuinely hate leaving bad reviews, but I wouldn't recommend this overpriced place to anyone. There's much better places in Berko.
