Loved it, stopped after walk with friends, great location on the canal, nice raised large verandah. Sat outside in lovely weather. Dog friendly. Very nice food menu. Lunch had 2 starters and a beer £19. Need to book, parking nearby is hit or miss if nice day.

Great atmosphere for early Saturday evening. Outside space overlooking the canal looked amazing, but it was a little cold so we ate inside. Food was top notch, very nice. The only slight downside was only one bar staff for much of the time, so getting drinks took a while.

The Boat is a great place to eat and drink in Berkhamsted We've been here twice now and left happy customers every time The food is high quality and every dish we've had so far has been delicious. Especially love their 3 Nations specials They have multiple beer and lagers on tap including Asahi on tap which is one of my favourite lagers. The on tap Asahi here tastes very good meaning they've maintained their taps well as it has no bitter or sour taste to it The staff are always very friendly and service is very good. They do table side service here The atmosphere is nice, it is a bit of a brighter pub with a clean open design and it has lovely outdoor seating next to the canal so a perfect place to eat and drink in summer as well The indoor dining areas are kept well heated in winter so it is very comfortable place to eat a full dinner

Atmosphere is really good along with staff. Sadly all the food we had was tasteless and very overpriced, £14 for scraps of nachos. The burger was dry and the chicken had next to no seasoning

I called in for lunch before an appointment in the town. I arrived about 12:50, so I assumed they would be serving. I ordered a turkey and cranberry toastie (with chips) and a half pint of beer. I left at 13:25 - no sign of the food. A group of three sitting in the window who were well settled when I arrived were pressing to find out where their food was.

Lovely pub next to The Grand Union Canal with an excellent food menu.

It's a real treat to come here, especially for lunch, when you can take in the view and then walk off your excellent lunch with a walk along the picturesque canal and cute shops. In the summer sitting outside is great, too. We particularly like the sandwich and chips option. The waiting staff are very kind and accommodating.

We came twice in our 2 days stay in this town. Food is superb , service is amazing and can’t recommend enough! Amazing. One of the best steaks I’ve ever had in my life

Went to see 'Jumping The Shark' for New Years Eve. Excellent pub, well set out, well decorated and spacious. Staff were great, friendly and welcoming. It was a great night all round and the band were awesome too.

Had Christmas dinner here 2024 and had a lovely 4 course meal great service and atmosphere definitely would do it again

It is a lively pub with a good selection of drinks and food. The car park is limited, but you can usually find parking spaces on nearby streets. Overall, it is a nice place to spend a few hours with friends.

Had a lovely Sunday Roast. Nice friendly venue with good food. Service was quick too. A bit cold to eat outside but will definitely come back to do so in the summer on the patio overlooking the canal.

Booked by phone for 8 of us a toddler and 2 dogs. Very helpful and no problem booking. The service was very good. Our meal arrived fairly quickly and the food was good.. The staff were efficient and friendly and the dogs were well looked after too with water bowls and treats being bought to the table. It is right on the canal is very picturesque spot . Recommend

Had a wonderful lunch at The Boat today. Fabulous roast dinner. Matt & his team were great very attentive. Great pub lovely staff. Would definitely recommend a visit.

The pie was a complete winner and the gravy was the stuff of dreams. This pub is right by the canal, plenty of places to sit indoor and outdoor.

First time visit for me and was very impressed, the food was hot and beautifully prepared, the staff were friendly and very welcoming, and the pub and restaurant and toilets were all very clean, I am moving to the area soon so I think I have found myself a nice local

Had a wonderful evening with some friends yesterday at the boat. Staff could not be more accommodating, the atmosphere was bubbly and the food spectacular! Will definitely return!

Loved it here!! Gorgeous views of the canal area, right on the path for a walk afterwards. The fish finger sandwich was delicious and all the staff super friendly!

Ordered pub classics fish and chips and sausages. Fish happened to be a bit rotten. Complained to a manager he said no, then he said that he'll show to the cook and disappeared forever. He did not even bother to return.

My husband and I walked here after visiting Berkhamsted Castle. We ordered two pub classics: fish & chips and sausages & mash. Both were delicious! We also enjoyed being near the water and the staff was friendly. Definitely recommend!

No one serving at the bar when you walk in on numerous occasions. Food is great, could do with some ambient music on quieter days.

Such a wonderful day with the view of the canal and nice breeze. Ordered the favourite fish and chips and it was perfect with the curry sauce they combined it with! Worth the money and the time we spent. Very clean toilet and the staff were friendly😊

Ate here on Saturday night , we had 3 fish and chips plus a burger , £75 !! That was without drinks , food was ok , nothing special. Can’t believe the price , I get it’s a lovely location by the canal but it is pub food !!

We had met our daughters nearby for a dog walk and needed a place for lunch. Found this pub after a quick Google search. Great pub with friendly staff. The food arrived quickly and was well presented. Very tasty food. The outside seating area was really nice with a view over the canal. Would highly recommend.

The food is genuinely superb! Beautiful location, fairly good service, but we’ve had a few meals here and each time we’ve been pleasantly surprised at how good the food is.Whoever the chef is, I take my hat off to you… the flavour of the hummus - lamb flatbread starter was perfection!

Recommended by a friend, we had visited The Boat previously and had a wondered roast dinner. This time, however, we booked a little later (6.00pm) to find that we were too late for a roast dinner (finishes at 6.00pm), and although a member of staff did check with the chef, we were told there was no roast dinners left!! We then looked at the limited menu again and selected food we didn’t particularly want but as it was our wedding anniversary we didn’t want to make the evening a disaster. The food was average and small portions. Dessert was disappointing .. a creme brûlée (at £6.00) with mango freshly out of a tin!! The staff were lovely though. It will be a while before we venture back there.

Visited many times for lunch. Portion sizes were very small, cesaer salad tiny, my burger looked very sad and lonely on the plate, with a few well cooked chips. maybe some coleslaw would have been nice. Food and service was nice but consider charging a bit more.

Really lovely location by the canal, good wine and great on a summer's evening but just don't bother ordering an Aperol Spritz! They only use 25ml of Procecco and the rest of the very large glass was topped up with soda water! Very disappointing and frankly just mean, for the price. When we asked for a little more Procecco they told us we'd be charged extra for it! The actual recipe on the aperol website is: 75ml of Prosecco, 50ml of Aperol, 25ml of soda, so the one at The Boat is a total con!

Lovely to sit by the canal on a summer’s day. Feel the menu could be a bit more ambitious.

Friendly pub and friendly staff

The portions of the dishes were small, the French fries were delicious. The waiter offered the sauces, went to get them and did not return, forgot or did not consider it necessary to bring them... You need to make an order at the bar and bring drinks to yourself.

Lovely pub, though I wasn't happy at being denied food because "food isn't being served for walk ins at this time" but I wasn't one - reserved table. Clean toilets.

However we placed our order and waited a hour only to be told they made a mistake and we would have had to wait 5 more minutes. No acknowledgement and no apology. To add insult to injury, a waiter approaches us and leaves a sign on the table stating we will have to clear it by 4.15 for football crowd to which my mother in law replies that we have been waiting for our food for a hour and will leave once we eat our meals. Once again, no apology or acknowledgment. About a hour and 15 minutes later, after witnessing larger tables being served and cleared before us, I am mortified in front of my inlaws. I approached the counter and requested a refund which they processed and left feeling absolutely and unjustifiably disrespected. I am sure the food was nice, shame we never saw it.

We visited this afternoon and were on table 7. We ordered 3 roast beef dinners and one chicken supreme dinner. After an hour and a couple of requests asking where our food was we were told pork had been mistakenly ordered (by the bar staff not us). They said it would be changed and served within the next 15 minutes. Half an hour later after represent being promised the non existent meal we asked for a refund whereupon a couple of pieces of bread and oil appeared at the table. No apology from them and we were disgusted by the don’t care attitude from the staff.

Nice food, big portions. Great place for a Sunday lunch. Staff were great too.

We often eat/drink here love the place but not this time. Food was great as usual but kitchen closed without warning so none of us could get desserts. This is poor! At least they could tell dining customers the kitchen closed at a certain time? Left and went elsewhere, very disappointed

Had more than one veggie food option, plant burger was excellent as was Budding organic beer. Place was immaculately clean. Will visit again 👍🏽

The two of us had a dinner, pretty simple: cheese burger and a ceasar salad. The bun was toasted too far, burger was ok yet meat a bit coarse. The salad was simple, croutons and grated parmesan from packs, and pricey for lettuce, an egg, parmesan and a bit of bacon. Then a Victoria sponge cake with custard, microwaved .... The custard had a thick skin and the cake was rock hard for the lower halve. Disappointed.

Great beer, great food, and brilliant service

Always a good choice, you never wait more than 5-7 minutes to get served at the bar. Food is good and plenty of beers on tap. Was a bit disappointed that the 'lamb chops' special consisted of one singular lamb chop for £25 but it still tasted great. Would have made a lovely starter. The ambiance is chilled and make sure you book a table outdoors if the weather is good and you want to be outside 👍.

Our experience was extremely disappointing. To begin with, there was an error in the billing for one of our meals and drinks. Furthermore, we were dismayed to overhear Kelly, a member of the staff, engaging in gossip about our table. Additionally, when I inquired about the vegan status of the Tofu sandwich, Mitch responded in a condescending and sarcastic manner, stating, "Obviously, PB stands for plant-based, so yes, it's vegan." The demeanour of both Kelly and Mitch was consistently rude. I would strongly advise against visiting this establishment.

Great little pub by the canel! Dog friendly and great atmosphere. Staff at the bar need a little more friendly service, felt as if I just wanted to order and get out to my table as soon as possible. May of been a bad day for that person so I still will return!

Very dog friendly pub which made decent coffee from an espresso machine... The staff, clearly dog lovers themselves, couldn't resist giving our two dogs some well-deserved treats and ear scratches, instantly putting them at ease. We settled into a comfortable spot near a window, enjoying the views of the Grand Union Canal, which we had just been walking along. While it was still a bit early for lunch, we had a look at the menu, which had a decent number of tasty looking meals and snacks. The combination of friendly service, decent coffee, and the canal backdrop made this pub a perfect pit stop for both us and our dogs. Clean and tidy toilets too.

Beautiful looking pub and not overly expensive food. £6 a pint of Cruzcampo but it was very nice and ice cold.

Beautiful pub with lovely helpful and friendly staff, reasonably priced but the cherry on top was the nappy station. As a group that had young children this was a small detail that really made our time here fantastic. I'd highly recommend it for a casual drink or dinner.

Very nice canal side pub in Berkhampstead, with lots of outside space to take in the canal boats chugging by, although we visited on the coldest day so choise to eat inside where it was warm and cosy. Food was nice if a tad pricey, although the drinks weren't too expensive. Would go again.

This is our go to pub in berkhamsted. As it's a fullers pub you can be guaranteed good service and nice atmosphere.

27/10/23: Hemel Hempstead Weekend: visiting friends John & Hazel for the weekend, myself Lynette & Bryan enjoyed a lovely relaxed pint here. We'd travelled to Berkhamsted for the afternoon. The weather was cold and crisp outside but the pub was warm and welcoming. Good service, good selection of craft ale.

tables are sticky and untidy. i dont trust the hygiene rate here

Just stopped for a drink, no food was ordered. Was very quiet in there for a Thursday but the weather could have had a bearing on it. Nice place to go.

Went here with some friends on a friday night. Very lively and a great atmosphere.

A great pub right by the canal in Berkhamsted which is very dog friendly and has plenty of outdoor seating to cater for that need. Had a great chicken burger and would certainly come back again.

Had a lovely lunch just sitting by the canal the food was superb and the service was great as well. I had a lovely BLT in a ciabatta with triple cooked chips, the wife had brie in a ciabatta and chips. All done to perfection.

Parking terrible. Very limited choice of food, particularly for vegetarians.
