Had a really enjoyable roast dinner here

A beautiful place, clean and tidy. Justin has owned this pub for many years. They are welcoming to everyone and many regulars have been going for many years too. Go for a drink or meal with friends or family and see for yourself. This is an exclusive place and I highly recommend.

We lost the quiz, but enjoyed the food, the beer, and the people.

First time posted a review but thought steam coach deserved one in bucket loads thay hosted my mother's 100 birthday she never stopped smiling. Justin and Sylvia went out of their way to make the day, great buffet Sylvia and thanks for the music Justin

Disgusting service. Ordered a lager top and was charged 85p extra for the top of lemonade.When simply pointing out that a top should be included in the cost of a pint, otherwise you are not serving a full pint, the staff were extremely rude, snapping and dismissing any conversation. We only went there as a couple for a nice lunch. Not in a hurry to return. 22/07 - thanks for your response. It was Saturday 13th July, maybe around 1:30/2pm. The young blonde girl serving us was new bless her, so she called over a brunette staff member to help her, this staff member was the rude one. It wasn’t like we were angry at all, it was just a query, but it was like she wanted an argument. I’m glad we were right anyway, thanks for confirming.

Great food. Great service. Wasn’t expecting the chicken burger to be as good as it was. Chips were great. Food came out quickly. Would go back

Nice rear beer garden and lovely at the front too with great views. On the down side, I would say, the staff are not very welcoming...but that's just my experience.

Leaving Peterborough, we went online to book a Sunday Roadt for our journey back to london. Hubby stumbled a cross THE STEAM COACH, and we called to see if they had availability...reserved our 3 LAMB ROASTS and 1 BEEF ROAST. Pub was heaving, which was a good sign, and omg....when food came to the table, it was a VERITABLE FEAST...YUMMMM YUMMMM YUMMMM. BEST ROAST EVER. Definitely will be back to sample other dishes. Thank you for a wonderful meal...

Nice pub, where we went for a live music show doing a set myself. Good food. Enough space. Good location with parking at the streetside. Had a lovely lunch time with music and food.

Having previously given the Steam coach a 5 star rating based upon a great Mothers Day experience in 2023 this year's review isn't so great. On making the booking we were asking what meat we wanted for our roast. No problem. When we got there 10 mins early we were asked for a bank card to ensure we paid. I don't think our 88 year old Mum was ready to do a runner!! Our dinner was put in front of us within 2 mins which made you think it was sat under a hot plate for a while. The food itself was ok. The waitress asked mid meal if she could clear our plates.....then did clear two plates whilst my sister was still eating. She then left dessert menus on the table with no instructions. 25 mins later I managed to catch her attention to order and she then said we had to order at the bar. We didn't bother as the whole experience wasn't what we had come to expect. Last year a little present for Mums and a free Prosecco. This year a totally different experience. Not great.

Popped in for a Friday lunch of steak and chips with a pint of decent beer. The food was well cooked and served in good time. Cheerful, slightly Zany girl behind the bar - Just beware of the competition between the landlord and his old dog to see who can bark the loudest 😂

I paid a visit to this lovely pub a few weeks ago with some friends and just wanted to say that the staff and atmosphere/ambiance is fantastic! Good food too! Also, on my visit, I lost a glove and Kayleigh, a lovely lady who works at the pub was kind enough to return it to me in the post. I very much appreciated this! All staff are really nice and friendly, cosy pub atmosphere, great food and good selection of drinks. Well recommended!

We came for a Sunday roast to celebrate my nans birthday. We all enjoyed it and left feeling very full! Will definitely be back again.

Absolutely amazing roast dinners my family all enjoyed with the trio of meats of lamb chicken and beef. The beef was succulent and delious the lamb and chicken were perfectly cooked . Their roast potatoes are to die for and the cauliflower cheese is one of my new favourites. Honestly my family and I will be back again and again.

Yesterday I popped in and had the Yorkshire Beef wraps with roasties and gravy. It was delicious and absolutely hit the spot. The roasties where crispy and fluffy perfection. I also thought it was very reasonably priced. I will most definitely be having this again.

The Sunday lunch is amazing the best one I have had for a long time. The roast potatoes were crispy, the meat was well cooked as were the veggies and great yorkies.

Last minute decision to cancel a London roast and head home for a local beef Sunday dinner. Possibly the best pub roast I've had. Beef was perfectly cooked and plenty of it, lovely fresh vegetables and potatoes and a lovely Yorkshire pudding. Plus the icing on the cake, jumbo sized pigs in blankets. Would 100% recommend paying a visit for Sunday Roast in a proper local pub. Cracking local beers on tap as well.

Always a pleasure meeting friends here for a pint in the rear terraced garden, a right suntrap. Staff are helpful and attentive, the food is good and varied.

Hit and miss whether the pub is open or not. The lights might be on but the door will be locked. Or you’ll get in and buy a drink but then last orders arrives and they’re closed by 9pm.

A lovely local pub set next to the moor in Hemel Hempstead overlooking the cricket pitch. Boxmoor is a nice area of this town and the beautiful open space and classic pub setting add to the charm. Landlady a bit of a battle axe but you kind of have to be to run a pub. Was told off at the bar for speaking with a friend animatedly - perhaps we were being too loud? But I didn’t think so, lol. Either way she is harmless if you don’t cross her and runs a well oiled machine. Nice pub garden and surprisingly spacious. Available to hire the raised back room for events.

Situated in Boxmoor opposite the local cricket pitches you can spend laid back visits, supping a tradituonal ale and watching the world go by while enjoying a local cricket game unfold.

Rude, miserable old woman. We were at a christening, and she ruined it. Sour faced old bint. God forbid you take kids in there! She hates kids, customers, and life in general It seems....

Best roast I have had out. Ever.

Best Sunday Roast ever!! I had the lamb roast. Portion was big! Better than a homemade roast. The potatoes were crispy, the gravy was amazing and there was more than enough served! The lamb was cooked to perfection. And to top it all off the staff were super friendly.

Absolutely incredible Food/Service/experience 5 STAR!!!!! We booked a Sunday roast for our Moms Birthday. She specifically ask for pub roast and man oh man we were blown away! The friendly staff made us feel just at home, warm, cozy atmosphere! And when the food came we just about fell off our chairs… big portions (which are rare in this country) and every element was cooked to perfection! Oh we’l he back that’s for sure! Damn good meal!!🤩

There is a great atmosphere in this pub - really cosy Went in for Roast Chicken which was fantastic - gluten free gravy and also yorkshire puddings! Brilliant!

The food is good and plenty of events going on. They try hard with the events and decorations ect. Drinks are Expensive and a land lady who would rather argue with you when you complain you've got a duff pint than replace it. Above average pub

My favourite place! The atmosphere is brilliant. The drag show is fabulous and the DJ they have gets everyone up and dancing Lovely punters and lovely owner. Food is great too and there's a lovely little suntrap outside for summer as well

Nice family pub with good Guinness

I popped in to the steam coach for a bite to eat while I was working away. Although I can't really complain, the barmaid was friendly and efficient, the food did what I wanted it to (refuel after a days work) but I feel when the fish pie was first made and cooked it was probably a solid 8/10 but when it was reheated you could tell it was reheated, overcooked fish and prawns and not much seasoning in the mash topping. Although the meal was a 6.5/10 I would actually go back to try something else - everyone has an off day! Looking at the other clientele I think the food would normally please. All men, locals and youngsters that feel the need to wear a baseball cap with a hoodie hood over the top while indoors! But who am I to judge.

Friendly staff, classic pub. Not eaten here so can't advise on food. But if you're looking for a pub to meet friends and have a good night, I'd recommend.

This pub is outdated and dirty. 3 out of 4 glasses were dirty, and the staff were rude, especially the lady manager/owner

Lovely little pub .but a little on the expensive side

I walked in this pub with a friend, was immediately greeted with a scowl. Slightly unaware of the animosity at first, just as chit chat I asked the owner if everything was OK .He replied ' not really ' and continued by saying it's my pub and I will serve who I want. I asked if there was any reason. None was offered.Myself and my friend walked out compliantly but a little confused. I can only imagine that this charmless man had either had a bad evening and/or harboured some kind of prejudice.This is a genuine review and I have previously quite liked this pub, but feel compelled to call out such unwarranted treatment.

Quick good pub food at lunch time

Lovely traditional pub, low ceilings, good decor inside, they show sports as well. Good outside seating area for the warmer days, not sure if they have a garden

Nice pub but was not ask to track and trace (forgot 😞). A couple of patrons thought they were too important to wear masks when wandering around. Better than some pubs. Sorry to be mean but we are in strange times and we need to safeguard others. Staff who served us were great.

Sunday lunch was recommended to me by a friend. Took my daughter. Had booked by telephone; was asked to call back as they were just going to make an emergency call. Called back and preordered 2 roasts. Arrived promptly and ordered drinks at the bar. Bank card taken for a tab. Staff friendly and welcoming. Our table was set and ready. Lunch duly arrived. Lady serving food was very polite and friendly. Unfortunately, my lamb was quite fatty but worked round this. Broccoli was nearly raw and not edible. Carrots and cabbage cooked well as was the Yorkshire pudding. The parsnips and roast potatoes were also over cooked and tasted burnt. When the lady returned to collect plates she did not ask why so much food had been left but I did give some feedback. No apology or offer of any refund or discount. Not what I expected and won’t return for food.

Friendly and efficient service good music beautiful gardens

Beautiful historical pub with a lovely garden….but let down by rude staff. The older women who works here is incredibly rude and I have heard this from multiple other people on different occasions. Real buzz kill. Treat your customers right and they will return, but unfortunately this women is probably costing this business massively. Young lady behind the bar however was lovely and professional.

Great service and great food. Special treat for myself and sons girlfriends birthdays. Good food in nice surroundings what more could we ask for. Staff were very professional and eager to help even though they were run of their feet.

Summer vibes - a tranquil and attractive setting in box moor. Came here a couple of times now and felt necessary to write a positive review as both experiences were of a high level. Firstly the garden at the back end of the pub is beautiful. Surrounded by plants and quality furniture, a nice cold refreshing pint simply was lovely. The food also, I ordered the chicken burger which honestly was one of, if not the best pub burgers I’ve had. Staff were extremely friendly and caring.

It's a cozy enough pub but I will not come here again. This will be the first and last time I ever come here. The price is higher than £6 (it's £6.10 for a pint Peroni) Bottom line - THIS IS NOT LONDON. Nowhere in Hemel Hempstead is this expensive. Sort out the prices. Please!

Not overpriced but underwhelming

Very welcoming and friendly staff. Food was excellent and the early bird menu is very good value. Ham egg and chips for under 8 quid. 3 very thick slices of ham, egg just right and the chips were some of the best I have ever had crisp on the outside fluffy inside. My wife had chilli concarne which she said tasted home made and very tasty. The cheesy garlic bread was divine. I would recommend this very friendly and welcoming pub and the menu to anyone.

We have been out for Sunday Lunch a few times lately now that covid restrictions have eased, The Steam Coach is without doubt our favourite hence we have been twice within a month. It shouldn't be difficult, get the portions right, serve enough veg that's not been over cooked, a couple of good sized roasties and a huge gravy boat so you can make your own choice as to how much you have on your food. If you read some of my other reviews you will see that others struggle, yet at The Steam Coach we have no complaints. Really well cooked (not over cooked) meat & veg, just the right size portions and plenty of gravy if you want it. A good choice of beer and wine is on offer of course and all served with a smile by lovely staff. We will be back again soon!

This pub is a lovely gem in Boxmoor, just outside Hemel town centre. The staff are really friendly. The landlord of the pub takes time to say hello to customers. Food lovely. Sundays Roasts served from heaven ;-)

I now live abroad & I'd not been back to the UK since 2015. It was a food pit stop after skiing with friends & their youngsters.... the owners and staff were VERY accommodating and, even though it was quite late in the evening, adapted the menu for the children. A very homely feel to the pub.... Food choice was so great it actually took me a long time to choose what I wanted.... and I wasn't disappointed.... THOROUGHLY ENJOYED!!! 🤗
