Simmons Bakers in Dacorum

Had a takeaway delivered. How hard is it to get a cheese baguette wrong?! The baguette although not stale wasn’t fresh and the cheese was grated not even slices of cheese. Such a shame that a company like Simmons can’t deliver a fresh cheese baguette!

I went in to buy some rolls and bread and there was three or four working there and I was waiting by the counter to be served and not one of them said I will serve you in a minute. After five minutes I walked out and went elsewhere.

Simmons is a bakery which also serves sit in or takeaway food. The indoor seating area is small and often packed with locals, but there are also a couple of tables outside on the pavement. Food is fresh and tasty and served quickly.

Trying to write a review for Simmons in Leverstock Green in Hemel Hempstead but cannot be found to review. I regularly visit Simmons at Leverstock Green (not by choice but convenience) with friends. We buy coffee and cakes every week but most of the staff are so rude. The older women who work there are unbelievably rude to customers. I have a hearing impairment and find it hard to hear through the masks the stuff are wearing, but the staff just get angry and shout ‘I can’t speak any louder!’ … by choice I will not go there again and encourage anyone I know not to visit and spend any money at this business. Sad the staff are so rude as the cakes and savouries are amazing!

Simmons is basically a baker's shop with a small cafe attached. It does a roaring trade for mostly take-aways or you can sit in at one of the available tables. As a baker's shop it covers everything from bread and rolls, to cakes and pastries, buns and doughnuts, scones and gingerbread to tarts and pies and sausage rolls. You can enjoy an all-day breakfast of bacon and eggs etc or scrambled eggs on toast among many other delights. My lunch of Macaroni & cauliflower cheese was really delicious, accompanied by a Baked jacket potato with melted cheese. All the usual hot and cold drinks are available at a High Street place convenient for refreshing yourself after a tour of the local shops.

Vomitworthy food. Bought two pieces of melted cheese and chive on toast. Turned out that it wasnt. It was actually cheese mayo that they had baked! Since when did people start baking mayonaise? It was absolutely revolting, slimy and totally inedible. Tomato soup turned out to be cooked tinned tomato with LOADS of garlic. Yuk. Alao as a bakery but with no fresh cakes either. Never again. Awful food.

Visited Simmons this morning to buy the well known product that is a" savoury roll," after waiting 10 mins due to covid rules( completely understand). I was informed that they did not have any "Savoury rolls "available, when asked why? wait for it this gets better. The reason why and i honestly had to digest this reply for a few seconds before laughing, the staff member informed me that " due to covid19 and social distancing they have not been able to supply this product, but i could have a sausage roll............................................................................................................................................................................if anyone knows why a sausage roll and at least 100 products in the shop are covid immune and a savoury roll is isn't could you please let me know, from a very confused customer.

Great food, great service, great hygiene during this time. What more can I say, oh great bacon & egg bap.

Disappointing stale Danish pastries, coffee was average - not very exciting visit, will try other cafe in future

Amazing sausage rolls and always friendly service. The coffee is very good. Very clean and well run.

My children and I were thrilled to get a table here at lunchtime yesterday, as the rain poured outside... We were spoilt for choice for lunch, but opted for warm cheese and ham croissants and a bowl of piping hot soup with a roll... But any of the things on offer would have been welcome as it all looked so good! The staff were really friendly, the food didn't take long to arrive, and we weren't hurried out of our seats when we'd finished. It's great to still have small bakeries like this on our high streets, and we would all recommend it as a great lunch stop - or for a tasty treat to take away!

Always call into Simmons for a coffee when in Berkhamsted. Good selection of cakes and pastries! also a range of Breakfast rolls available! Happy Smiling assistants as well! Only downside is ... No Toilet on site!

What a change around. This Simmons had the much-vaunted cherry and almond slice that just tasted delicious. The red berry tea was up to the mark as well. The staff were very warm and friendly and made our visit feel as if we were welcome. Regrettably, this is not always the case. Sitting outside in the warm sunshine, with that superb fare, what more could I possibly ask for?

Hi, I've eaten here a fair few times, usually the Jumbo English Breakfast. It really is a hit and miss affair. Sometimes everything is fine, other times it's dreadful. The trouble is that everything seems to be cooked in the morning and then reheated. This can lead to absolutely rock hard mushrooms, leathery sausages and stodgy baked beans. I eat here because it's quick and handy, not because it's particularly good. I had a chicken sandwich once and it was very nice.

We were visiting the area and stopped in this pretty little town for brunch. Although there were many place to eat we opted for Simmons as it advertised that all the bread and cakes were freshly baked on site. It was incredibly busy but we managed to find a table and perused the menu and the plentiful and delicious cakes on display, In the end we opted for 'Smoked Salmon and egg on sour dough.' It was delicious as were the cakes we opted for afterward. The coffee was great too. The service was quick even though they were so busy and the staff were polite and helpful. An excellent choice for a quick lunch.

Very rude female staff member (she appeared to be in charge) It all apears chaotic, not a relaxing lunch! Overpriced for mediocre food. Dirty cuttlery, dirty tables & dirty floor. Wont be returning.

Good selection of sandwich fillings and prices not too bad. I think I pay approx £1.95 for a cheese salad roll which has ample filling. They also sell a wide selection of pastries, fresh bread as well as hot snacks to eat in or takeaway. Service is very efficient.

We were visiting Berkhamsted and looking to have a coffee. We saw all the cakes in the window and decided to go in and have a coffee and cake. We were served by a very warm and friendly member of staff. The coffee was excellent quality and the Belgian Bun was so fresh and delicious. There are tables inside and outside the bakery and we would certainly go again. We bought a selection of cakes to bring away with us and all are of the same high quality.

We were there on a Sunday afternoon and they were understaffed as they had no clean dishes. My husbands cappuchino was served in a cup with no saucer, teaspoon or chocolate. I had a mug of tea with nothing to remove the teabag other than my fingers. Our cakes were served on cardboard trays. There are no toilet facilities.I also noticed one of the staff members rearranging the biscuits without wearing plastic gloves. Just not very impressed.

We have visited several shops in the Simmons empire and I regret to say this is by far the most mediocre. They didn't have flavoured fruit tea we wanted, nor the cherry and almond slice. I chose the apple pie that was overly sweet that came with a thick topping of white granulated sugar. The sweetness of this overwhelmed the flavour of the apples.

We stopped in the bakery 2day looking for a quick bite to eat. Sat inside although there are a few tables also outside.

This is really a bakery and sandwich shop, but it has some seating for eating in, plus a few outside pavement tables. It's bright, clean, modern and the staff are both friendly and efficient. My Cappuccino was well made, the Belgian Bun was big, fresh and tasty. One of the better options for a hot beverage and a naughty cake, without any of the attitude issues that you often find in the chain coffee brands.

I find it almost impossible to walk past and not end up buying either a Chelsea or Belgian bun, love this place.

What a selection of Home made Cakes and Snacks. Very popular but the service was good, and the Christmas Slice was Excellent

We asked for two white coffees but had to return them because they came out as black coffees with froth on. I returned them to be replaced but they came back looking the same. We were shocked to see the state of the tables and floor, really disgusting. Looking at previous reviews about the cleanliness even going back to last year, sadly nothing has changed. Certainly better places to go to in Berkhamstead.

We had various filled rolls some crusty white some granary, all filled to capacity which were delicious. The Belgian buns are fantastic and the sausage rolls flaky. Look out for their bakers shops it's worth getting in there early.

Inattentive staff, mediocre food at best, poor quality of service and no remuneration when a huge blunder is made. Will not be returning.

Sólo paramos para tomar un bocado rápido y beber. Sentamos como tenía el perro, 4 - 5 asientos fuera y bueno para tomar el sol. El interior es bien presentado, una gran selección de cosas saladas, un montón de cosas dulces y calientes/bebida fría. Todo parecía razonable para una panadería normalmente en Berkhamsted. Sin duda recordará de nuevo para algunos de los dulces :-).

Popped in for a quick cup of tea on our way through. The place was dirty. The tea was the worst I've ever tasted. No idea what they did with it but it was awful.

Been twice for morning cuppa and toast. Tasty and good value. Warm inside on cool days. The toasted sourdough is crunchy.

Me parecía activamente evitar hacer contacto visual con nosotros mientras nos paramos ahí, andaba pasando sin tanto como un 'Hola, estaré con vosotros". Después de esto sucedió un par de veces, nos fuimos. Servicio muy, muy malo - sugiero los dueños de este café hacer el readiestramiento de su equipo como los aspectos básicos de la atención al cliente.

No es bueno - rollo de salchichas que había estado en el gabinete de visualización cálido por mucho tiempo por el gusto. Café flojo (supuestamente capuchino). Personal joven era lo suficientemente servicial pero hay demasiado para hacer la competencia en Berko una segunda visita aquí.

Friendly staff. Nice freshly made sandwiches, one chicken and salad and one ham and salad. What you see is what you get. Reasonable price and somewhere to sit and eat.

The food we ordered was excellent - if all you want is a quick sandwich. Baked potatoes were off the menu (as they ran out). The cakes looked AMAZING, but we didn't taste them, as this was just a fly in visit.There were only 3 or 4 tables inside and the floor around our table was covered in food. Clearly the person before us was a messy eater.

Oh my word the choice of cakes and sandwiches etc here are so yummy. My friend and I wanted somewhere to sit and have a chat whilst enjoying a cuppa and a something to eat. We were spoilt for choice. We ended up choosing a Belgian bun each and it didn't disappoint. Coffee was good too. If I'm in the area again I shall definitely be popping in to taste something else. Good service and delightful fresh food. Yum.

From the outside, there is certainly an enticing window display filled with lots of delicious looking cakes and buns, but upon entering there is limited seating, and below par service. After snapping up a table in the corner, it was disgustingly dirty, and so I went up to the young man behind the counter and asked if it could be cleaned before we bought our food. He said yes. I went back to the table and waited a further 10 minutes for him to come over, and he persisted to only pick up the leftover rubbish from the last customers on the table but not wipe the table or brush the floor which was littered with food, cake, and wet with drink. At this point we just walked out! Wouldn't recommend this place, and will not be returning!

I took the kids there today for sandwiches for their tea. The food was OK (sometimes the bread is a bit past its best at that time of day, but it was fine). The kids were hungry and wolfed it down.The experience was marred somewhat by the service. Two guys were behind the counter and as they served me they smirked at one another and barely said a word to me. For some reason the transaction was incredibly complex and involved changing till twice. Each time the till jump happened I was left standing like a lemon at the other till. Not a word passed their lips. Just smirks. I ended up telling them they needed to work on their communications skill. Which resulted in more smirks.

Occasionally pop in for some food to go which has always been good but the past few times have found staff frosty. Particularly on last attempt after standing in clear view of at least 3 members of staff who all looked like they didn't want to be there and seemed to purposefully put their head down and ignore us. Walked out 10 minutes later with nothing and had to go home and look in the mirror to check I hadn't become invisible. Won't be going back until people skills are improved.

We think that the food is very good particularly the cakes and doughnuts, they are exceptional. Well worth a visit we've visited other Simmons Bakers shops, and found all the shops we visited to be very good.

On a morning out thanks to the relief aid provided by our babysitter, my wife and I saw the beautiful window display of delectable cakes so we decided to stop and have coffee and cake. That was unfortunately, as far as it went. The coffee was weak and what taste there was, was marred by an unpleasant bitterness. The coffee and walnut cake didn't taste remotely of coffee, the butter icing was fake and the walnut on top was wet and chewy. Overall it was so bad that neither of us could finish any of it. If only they had used quality ingredients, it would have tasted as good as it looked.

I went in late afternoon for coffee and a slice of cake. Service was slow with initially only one server - later joined by another one. Wide range of cakes, breads and pastries. Nice coffee but I ordered a slice of cake from the window display, found it very dry then realised it had been sitting in the autumn sunshine for the best part of the afternoon. i should have selected one from the cooler inside counter.

This was my first visit to any Simmons, although I had heard excellent comments. It is truly amazing besides the excellent variety of breads and pastries baked by themselves, and sold over the counter, they also have an excellent range of food that utilizes their vast range of bakery products. The preparation of everything they serve, and the quality goes without question, the size of serving satisfies the heartiest of stomachs. I can't wait to go back to try some other menu items. I think it will take many Months

Great food always pop in whenever I am in berkhamsted, only thing I would moan about is the fact that it is a little expensive but overall cannot go wrong with the food and brilliant service!

Worth stopping off for a quick lunch or scrumptious cream cakes and donuts. Love their crusty rolls filled or to takeaway. Their sausage rolls are excellent. Good value food.

Just walking past I couldn't resist the siren call of the chocolate cake in the window. I had to drop in for a slice and a large cappuccino. Unfortunately the place was empty except for a collection of loud young female staff who spent their time talking over each other and giggling profusely which did nothing to enhance the ambiance.The assistant who served me was polite enough (just) but the coffee and cake made up for all the shortcomings.
