I have been coming here for several years, food has always been very good (better than a few others). Portions are terrific, and they will double fry the chips as well if you ask. Most recent visit was a phoned in order. On the first call, it was answered but politely asked to hold for a minute which was fine....but it turned into five minutes. I hung up and called back and was answered straight away by the lady who took the order, no probs. Very busy as it was 7pm on a Friday, but queuing system needs sorting as not clear who are walk-ins. Lots of UBER eat guys but very pleased when the boss told one pushy driver to get to the back of the queue (thumbs up to that 👍). I made myself known to the staff that I had phoned an order through and it was already being sorted. Overall, fab place for fish and chips (not tried anything else), perhaps best avoid busy periods and phone the order though first.

We had tried boxmoors chippy for the first time in a year after some recommendations from the neighbours, we live in the area but had some previous bad experiences. I would like to thank the team.They excelled our expectations. The fish and chips were the best we ever had and the complimentary home made tartare sauce was something you don’t ever get in modern takeaways. Will surely be coming back. Well done boxmoors!

Yummy jumbo battered sausage, amazing large cod, large chips and mushy peas were super good and just what we needed after a long week. 🤤😋 Had to wait about 20 mins on a busy Friday, but it was ok 💪

I'm very sad to have to leave this review. My family have been coming here, and Westons before it for over 30 years. Having waited for ever increasing amounts of time for food over our last visits - almost 50 minutes last time, we have given up. This evening I walked in and was totally ignored. There were only 6 other people in there. I waited for over 5 minutes, but not a single member of staff even made eye contact. Let alone apologise for the wait, or attempt to take my order. Their only interest seemed to be debating with uber eats delivery men, and fulfilling their orders. My order was clearly of zero importance. After more than 5 minutes of standing there I turned and walked away. It seems that they have grown too greedy. They are unable to offer a level of service for the orders they are taking. Traditional, or long standing, or walk in customers are not important to them. It's just the delivery drivers now. It's very sad.

Absolutely amazing experience with this place! originally ordered fish and chips and two kebabs through uber eats and the driver had forgot the fish and chips, so we decided to call the shop and they cooked it fresh for us and sent it to us with two free battered sausages! 🥹🥹 they apologized to us numerous times on the drivers behalf and were overall super sweet. Food was also absolutely outstanding and would definitley recommend their fish n chips & kebabs! 10/10

The food is superb - massive portions of fish which is perfectly cooked, and the chips are great too! Service is excellent, can be busy in there but that is just a true sign of how good they are. Best Chippy in Hemel... and possibly the world!!!

decided to try out a new chip shop for the first time, and unfortunately, the experience was pretty disappointing. I was really looking forward to a treat, but the order that arrived was wrong. I called to let them know about the mix-up, but all I got was a half-hearted apology. All in all, a really disappointing first experience. I’m not sure I’ll be giving them a second chance anytime soon.

Glad we decided to choose this takeaway over the safer option since we were in the area briefly. This is definitely the best kebab we’ve ever had, also chips, ranking number one. Both the service and food were 10 out of 10. Although there was a delay in grilling our food, they made it up to us—even bringing the food to the car. We couldn’t leave without giving them their well-deserved compliments and having a great conversation about the shop’s history. Next time we're in Hemel Hempstead, it’s a must to eat from Boxmoors Chippy again. Even if we have to drive 30 minutes directly there, it will be worth it.

Chips of really poor quality and always dry, not sure what process and potaties they use but far from tasty. Nice people but are producing food far below the quality of the long term predecessor. real shame. anothet great place lost

We received an awesome welcoming as soon as we arrived inside the shop. There is a good selection of food on offer and the guys serving were very helpful with recommending dishes. We ordered Cod, Chips, Chicken shish kebab, Kofte kebab and Mushy Peas. There was not one item I could say a bad thing about. Portion sizes were of a decent size too. Overall, i'm massively impressed by this place and will definitely be going back. I would highly recommend Boxmoor chippy.

Our first time using the chip shop since moving to the area and we were not disappointed. Food was hot, tasty, fresh and the generous portion of chips were the perfect ‘chip shop’ chips. Pleased to have a decent friendly takeaway in the area with a great menu to choose from.

I went in here 2 months ago and I have to admit it was a little shaky. Food was not consistent also. But I heard some good things recently so I wanted to give it another try & I must admit they have delivered. I ordered a large cod and chips and it was honestly the best I had ever had. They proved themselves and I'm happy for them.

Had a job in Hemel and thought i’ll stop by, best decision made that day. The portions were huge and the fish was made to precision. The lads running the place also provide great service hats off to them! Very rare to find great taste, portion and service all at once, will definitely revisit.

Food was pretty good (excellent chips) but the kebab was cold and dry. Also very busy with no idea of where you are in the queue especially if you ordered online. You just sat and waited with no staff interaction. 40 mins from ordering to actually get my food.... Had I see a queue of 20 people Infront of me I'd have probably gone elsewhere. I won't be rushing back in a hurry

Very disappointed in the service received this Friday evening. Usually take a walk down as we live locally or order online and we’ve never been disappointed with the food. After wanting a quick tea on the way home from work at 7pm, the service received was appalling. Waited over 45 minutes for one battered sausage and small chips, and other orders taken after mine were being fulfilled way before this. When asked for a refund I was told I could take the cash even though I paid on my card. I’m very disappointed in the lack of customer service considering we’ve been as a family numerous times and never been disappointed, certainly wouldn’t go back on a Friday evening no matter the time.

Nice place, food is good but in this day and age cash only payment is a bit meh... There is very little excuse not to have a card payment service.

Ordered online 29/08/23 - Arrived to collect my order but has been closed for a month, money has been debited. No one answers the phone. I was contacted by Boxmoor fish bar who told me to sort it out with the people who run their website....which is them ! Never again !

My favourite fish and chip takeaway. I pick up takeaway for the family regularly here and the cod and chips are better than most other places. Portions are generous too, I keep going back there.

Horrible little men charged me £12.90 for kebab meat and chips and still gave me a pitta bread! This happened twice despite me trying to explain ,this fellas a back street guttersnipe don't go there boaters trust me!

Shame really, I expected better. Got a delivery this evening. 3 cod, 2 chips, saveloy and a curry sauce. The 3 cods were all saturated in oil, the paper was literally dripping! The chips were overcooked, brown and soggy. When paying £9 for a medium cod, you don't expect it to be swimming in grease.

The family who run this place are great! The chips are still the best in town I think 👍🏼 cash only for walk ins 🐟 worth the wait!

That's our local chippy and it's pretty good. Portions are very generous! Our usual order is medium cod, chips, a pancake roll and mushy peas! Yum!

Great fish and chips, piece of cod I had was huge. Chips are lovely, they do superb Kebabs and lots of other things.

I ordered a quarter chicken breast and when it turned up it was a chicken leg/thigh when I rang the chip shop up they said that was all they had left I asked them why did they not tell me I would’ve gone somewhere else why are you sending me something I won’t eat I will end up in the bin I then asked them if they would eat something they didn’t like wouldn’t eat, my partner went down there and they told him they don’t sell so much leg and had to get rid of it so sent that instead, they are liars I was told they had no breast left and chicken is chicken I disagree all bits of the chicken are different some are white some are pink we only the white bits They were not very sympathetic and just expected me to be happy with something I wouldn’t eat this is the worst chip shop in the world don’t go there stay away

Large portions. Helpful happy staff. I'd wished I'd asked for half the amount of chips. We just don't have large appetites these days. Such a waste

Not sure how long the website menu/prices have been on but they are out of date. Prices are higher. There was little acknowledgement or apology when pointed out.

If you want fish you will have to Waite , if you want in and out because your on a yellow, it’s pie or sad looking sausages .

Cold food, tasteless chips and scampi wasn’t scampi (just fish). Extremely poor experience and very expensive. Will not be going back.

Unethical, if you do not specifically ask for a normal / regular size portion you are upsold the large portion . There is also very little mains on the menu for vegetarians (no veggie pies etc). ...In response to your comment. You have acknowledged that you upsell large meals when it is not specified by the customer. You should tell the customer when you do this, it is not normal or ethical. I am a vegetarian and did look at the menu. No veggie pies etc. The only main veggie dishes you provide are the three stated. There are no "much much more". If there is please reply (because its not on your menu and the person serving only provided these three options).

Freshly cooked, top quality fish and potato, crispy batter and generous portions. Best in the area for sure.

45 minutes from ordering our food to receiving it. I did in fact place the order on-line only to be told when I got to the shop that Uber eats wasn't working. So it was in fact an hour and 10 minutes from when I first placed the order on line. Some very annoyed customers being told lies about how long they would have to wait for their food. They couldn't keep up, yet continued to take telephone orders and never told the customers about how over loaded with orders their were. Some customers asked for their money back and walked out. And did I mention that when I got home, one of the items (a kids meal of fish, chips and the drink) were all missing. Shocking

Absolute mayhem.. pre ordered the food 1 1/2 before collecting, I was verbally abused trying to get to the till then I was told it was not ready and they will start to cook it now.. very rude old family nonsense who couldn’t cope.. then the old guy then said if I want trouble he would give it to me !! Absolute jokes all round best to be avoided!! Not unless you fancy a punch up with the staff 🤦🏻‍♂️👮‍♀️

Placed an order, after nearly 2 hours waiting rang to check what was causing the delay. Was told my order had been sent when it hadn’t, manager put the phone down on me and when I called back staff were laughing. Wouldn’t waste your time. Absolutely no grasp of basic customer service and poor attitude.

Ishmael and his team are fabulous. They prepare lovely food with generous portions. They are always so friendly and recently they prepared 25 fish and chips at a reduced price for elderly residents through the Boxmoor Good Neighbours project.

This place never disappoints. They have fresh dishes for reasonable prices, there is no waiting time even when the place is packed.

I visit this spot a lot since I work nearby. I have to say their customer service is always great and they keep the spot well kept consistently. Rates are reasonable and they serve large portions.

I ordered over the phone asking for a small cod and chips and was told it was £6.70. My sister went in to collect the food and was told that because we were late we would be charged an extra £1, and then was told that we ordered a large cod and chips which just wasn’t the case. Just ridiculous to be honest, definitely won’t be going back.

It's OK... Standards have slightly dropped regarding, the condition of the chips.... Some cooked, some under cooked...

I have been using this F&C shop for a while and have never been disappointed. Everything is freshly cooked, is top quality and worth the wait. Generous portions of chips always and with fresh fish is a treat. Always consistent quality. Best in Hemel.

Been using this takeaway for the last year and it's been the best fish n chips in town, however the young family has left and since, service and quality has gone down , Infact the last 2 occasions Iv had a bad stomach both nights????
