The best restaurants in New Town Colchester East of England

Delicious food, very reasonably priced, delivery was well timed, food was hot, thank you for another lovely dinner.

Came with friends as it was recommended. Friends traveled from Chelmsford, us from Sudbury so this was fairly central. 1st hurdle is finding the carpark! Signage is zero! A drink in the bar before seated for dinner. Dining room was fairly empty (3-4 other tables seated) and bright. No music or background noise. We all felt the other tables were listening to our conversation. We’re not noisy, (60-70yr olds) but felt very exposed. Table was laid with cutlery and side plates. No nibbles or bread offered before or while waiting for our order. Scallops were enormous disappointment. About 10 tiny scallops served on a nice sauce. Never have we had tiny (1cm size) scallops in a restaurant, should be serving 2-3 decent sized scallops with roe. These were the tiny ones sold frozen in bags at supermarket. Steak choices, Rump or fillet. No sirloin or ribeye. and boys ordered extra side or spinach to make it a mansize meal. The girls both ordered prawn /seafood pasta. Pasta papadelle was over boiled and stodgy, prawns were tiny (shrimp sized) and minimal. £33 for pasta is extortion. I left 50% of mine as it was inedible. Didn’t have desserts as meal was disappointing enough. Sad as this is marketed as fairly high-end but it isn’t. Beautiful refurb of the building but not a great dining experience.

I lived close by to this pub, and been a few times and it was an ok place to have a drink. I booked a party here and due to Covid I needed to change it by a year, which was no problem. Unfortunately, we still had issues due to Covid and it had to be changed again. The 2nd lot of contact was beyond rude. I have now cancelled my party based on this, as who wants to have a party somewhere when they've been rude to you? Not very encouraging. I am not a rude person, and I haven't done or said anything to deserve this. So this is a reply I just received from the owner - Peter - after expressing my dissatisfaction at the contact I previously received: We're doing very well thanks for your concern...... Apologies for what btw you was very rude to my staff so in all honesty you should be apologising to them but hay hoe you obviously think your above your station all I can say is good luck to the new venue there gonna duckin need it...... Off you duck 🖕 (changed swear words due to submitting the review) So, not much else to say. Give your money elsewhere.

Decent back street traditional pub with a good selection of real ales and a friendly landlady. The pies were good as well.

Always serves us with a lovely manner and the food is the best in this area, Kids love it too and they are always so kind to them.

We have ordered from here before and it’s been lovely so thought we would order again this evening …what a absolute disappointment it was all horrid everything tasted the same with no different flavours apart from a strong odour and taste of garlic the whole meal was disgustingly horrible I can only assume it’s a different chef we won’t order from here again I’m afraid it was a waste of money !!!!

delivery took 2hrs 20mins but was told 1 hr. Food cold. Not ordering again from here. Ruined xmas eve.

Top tier coming back from a night out food. Get it down you lads. The staff were great to talk to, and the food was great and well portioned. Actually melted the cheese on the cheesy chips.
