The best restaurants in New Town Colchester East of England

Such a shame to see a lovely location go to waste! This pub is damp, and negative. If you're not a local, it's a very cold reception with strange regulars glaring at you and rude bar staff who make you feel less then unwelcome.

This is the first bad review I've ever left because I felt the need to. I placed an order via JustEat. Estimated delivery time was 50 minutes. 50 minutes later, the app said by order had been delivered, but it hadn't. I waited in the street for a delivery driver and checked my phone for any messages or missed calls. Nothing. I called the restaurant directly and was immediately hung up on. Another hour later and still no food. I never received my order and received a refund from JustEat instead. Avoid ordering with them if you're using a food delivery service.

Food was amazing loads of flavour very polite and kind staff not too many people very nice and cozy definitely would recommend

I lived close by to this pub, and been a few times and it was an ok place to have a drink. I booked a party here and due to Covid I needed to change it by a year, which was no problem. Unfortunately, we still had issues due to Covid and it had to be changed again. The 2nd lot of contact was beyond rude. I have now cancelled my party based on this, as who wants to have a party somewhere when they've been rude to you? Not very encouraging. I am not a rude person, and I haven't done or said anything to deserve this. So this is a reply I just received from the owner - Peter - after expressing my dissatisfaction at the contact I previously received: We're doing very well thanks for your concern...... Apologies for what btw you was very rude to my staff so in all honesty you should be apologising to them but hay hoe you obviously think your above your station all I can say is good luck to the new venue there gonna duckin need it...... Off you duck 🖕 (changed swear words due to submitting the review) So, not much else to say. Give your money elsewhere.

What a pub,, the cream stout is to die for,, the landlady Chloe is the nuts,,, knows how to pull a pint, beer is cheap as chips ,, Matt the landlord tells me that Camra card holders will soon get discount as well,, cracking pub with cracking people 10/10 😍

Was going to experience poplar nurseries for the 1st time, only to find they dont accept dogs, went to millrace garden centre and had a lovely day with a beautiful meal, wont be going back to poplar

Staff weren't that friendly looked like they didn't want to be there. Ordered a thick shake and got my friend to double check it would be thick. Hence i drank a very pricey supposedly thick shake in about 2 minutes i wasn't in a confident mood to complain as they looked unapproachable. The restaurant was empty but sat outside at unwashed tables. I use To love the wimpy sadly not any more.

Just order and receive our takeaway within 40 minutes, piping hot and delicious 😋 Great value for money 💰

The marquis staff was sooo friendly, specifically Denise really felt at home.. Really go out for the customers.. Would definitely come again and would highly recommend.. 😊

Top tier coming back from a night out food. Get it down you lads. The staff were great to talk to, and the food was great and well portioned. Actually melted the cheese on the cheesy chips.

I eat here regularly but usually order it to go — they’re a little on the pricey side but well worth it. This the best Chinese restaurant for vegetarians and vegans, they offer almost all main-menu options with a veggie alternative and they’re not just replacing things with basic veg like other places. Vegan “chicken style” balls are delicious and always crispy, love the chow mein and portions are always enough to share.

Good portion size, plenty of meat. Very tasty tikka. Will order again
