Just had a takeaway from here and it was lush. Spot on, really enjoyed it and I am fussy. Chicken curry, satay chciken, king prawn fried rice. All were lovely, really enjoyable food. Buy with confidence from here.

Best Chinese in Colchester !!!!

Utterly vile! This is normally our usual now we are put off will no longer be ordering from here. Spent £70 on food for the Mongolian lamb to come burnt (black mostly) which I was told it’s always like that. Never had it that way before. The chow mein was noodles and chicken bland and just awful could have made it all better myself. The chicken strips not chicken balls were soggy and the ribs had no meat just fat. All of it just got thrown in the bin. I then phoned them up and complained and they said if I bring it all back how they got it as proof I would get some sort of refund so I got as much as I could out of the bin and put it in the bag went down there for them to go through it all and put it on a tray they then went through it all out back in the kitchen to come back and tell Me I’ll be getting a refund of £16! He said because I didn’t bring it all as it’s was in the bin they won’t refund anymore. Not sure what they wanted to do with all of it after it’s been in the bin unfortunately I wasn’t prepared to empty my bin contents into a bag.

Ordered a collection on a Friday evening around 1900- told it would be ready in 20 mins, arrived at 1920 and it was there waiting! £50 quids worth of food, all delicious…. The chefs special chow mien was especially nice as was the salt and pepper squid and crispy shredded chilli beef. Lovely takeaway, Delicious and hot. Ready on time. Great value for money for the family. Will be back!

Absolutely shocking. I have ordered from here since I was 16years old, I now work in a social club where our members will order food from there a lot and give them much custom. Only a few times have they before not included items and have always replaced and sorted out straight away so has been acceptable, the other day I was with my 8 year old son who wanted a Chinese, I asked like I usually do and a member of the club also placed an order so we had to separate orders, food arrived and my son only likes the chicken balls but they were missing along with the members S5 which had arrived was a 55. I called and the make receptionist started speaking really rudely to me telling me I was lying about the balls and their chef had said he packed them! (Regardless whether the chef says this I’m not sure what’s happened but I’m telling you they are not here) and my son needs to eat! He also would not stop arguing with me that I said 55 not s5 he told me people like me ruin their economy and that instead of just bring me the items so my child can eat he made us wait an hour by sending the driver back to collect food and only if we hadn’t touched it we would get a refund when alli wanted was my food! Sending the driver back who could see the missing items and was not sure why they would not send him back with the food and make the customer happy but instead He said I am not to order from there again and etc and felt so upset of the abuse I was getting. So disappointed staff have always previously been lovely and we will not be ordering from here ever again, completely ruined our evening

Been going to this Chinese for nearly 18 years and always been excellent food and service

Food great, been coming for many years. However, there now appears to be new owners and tonight we had coke with our meal, which we all said tasted weird. When we checked, it was 1 year out of date! When we went back we were simply offered another out of date bottle! Very disappointed

I ordered a very large order from this place and I usually order quite often. Some of us are vegetarian and WE SPEFICALLY ASKED FOR TWO VEGETARIAN SINGAPORE CHOW MEIN AND they gave us the wrong order TWICE. This is absolutely unacceptable especially to mess up twice. Very poor service and we will definitely NOT be ordering again.

We’ve used this take away a lot and always found it good but tonight waited over 2 hours. No sign of the food. 120 attempts to call them with it being permanently engaged. Poor service.

I live 10 minutes my food was cold

This is the only Chinese takeaway we've found that knows how to cook tofu properly so it doesn't end up soft and squidgy! They're very accepting of our dietary requirements and are willing to adapt recipes accordingly. We always get tofu in yellow bean sauce which is AMAZING!

Recently ordered from China city waited 2hrs 30bmomutes before my food arrived for then realising I had missing items at this point I was very angry still sat here waiting for over 3hrs and no closer to getting my order

Highly recommended. Love china city. Have been using them for the past 3 years now and the food has always been amazing. Staff are really friendly, food always arrives hot and tastes amazing. Delivery is always within the time given. We always try new things and every time we are not disappointed. The food doesnt leave you thirsty all night like a lot of other chineses we have had from other places.

First time trying here tonight after eating from many different chinese shops in colchester. I must say this is by far the best. The food was fresh and hot and literally so tasty. The smoked chicken🤤🤤 ribs, and pancake roll were out of this world. Will be eating from here from now on.

Absolutely rubbish food had clearly been microwaved as even after a walk home food was extremely hot, noodles were also soft and slimey, maybe they should move the microwave as I could see them using it

Easy phone ordering and quick pickup time

We keep going back for takeaway purely because we live close by and they’re incredibly quick for delivery. Unfortunately you never know if it’s going to be a good meal or a poor one. The beef used can be incredibly chewy and questionable. The rice is always good along with the sesame prawn toast. Prices are very reasonable which possibly reflects the quality.

Superb quality food, not over salty as with so many Chinese. Never had a bad meal from them. Always tastes home cooked!

Our "go to" Chinese in Colchester, which we've been using for over ten years. Never been disappointed, the food is never overdone with salt/MSG and tastes really freshly cooked even with delivery time. First class.

Like other customer reviews, they don’t value customer loyalty and if they mess up your order including food intollerances, they will promise a refund for the next order and then back track when you call again. Had told them we’ll never order again.

China City is the only place I have been going to for chinese for the last two years, the price's & the food is superb! Very big portions considering the price. Delivery is always right on time & the best dishes I believe are Crispy Chilli Beef, Half duck & their egg foo yung is the best in colchester. The only thing I could suggest to add may be a proper online menu.

I called at 11:28 for 4 dishes. I was told 10 minutes... It’s now 00:08 and still no food delivered. Plus at 12 they close! Great service!!

China City is a great little take away! Their Singapore rice noodles are brilliant! The best part of going in to order is that they'll make dishes up for me and go the extra mile if I want to get something changed. It's one of my favourite Chinese takeaways in Colchester.

Chicken in lemon sauce should be called chicken in dishwater. Awful. Rice is passable but no flavour in anything else.

The service and the delivery was really good although we were not very pleased with the quality of the food. Most of our food didn’t have much taste, there wasn’t enough flavour and didn’t have enough salt. If it was just one dish that we had problem with, I wouldn’t be writing this negative review but would be writing something positive. After a long day of working, all we wanted was to eat a nice chinese take away with my family but I think I won’t be ordering from this restaurant anymore since this will be my first and last order. Hope you guys take my word as an improvement to make your food quality better rather than a rant from a nobody stranger.

Good old fashioned Chinese freshly cooked not greasy and large portions would recommend quick orders very efficient

I have used this Chinese takeaway for around 10 years and have not had any problems until April when I found a hair in my food. I let this go as a one off as it had never happened before (I shouldn’t have, I know) However, In June I had an order delivered and again it had a long hair completely caught up in some plain chow mien (as if it had been stirred with it in) and I instantly felt sick. My family all spat their food out and nobody wanted to eat it. I called the Chinese and explained what had happened even offering to show him the food. They know me very well and the gentleman apologised and stated the next meal would be free. I tentatively called again a couple of weeks later to reorder (I know, I know) and spoke to the same man. The man stated the meal would not be free just the chow mien. I told him this was not what we had said but he just kept saying ‘I can’t do anymore’. I pointed out we had been loyal customers for 10 years and that should be recognised. He would not budge & has now lost our custom. Very sad but to be fair the hair incidents made me feel nauseous. If you order from here please check your food thoroughly and don’t expect a full refund if you find anything. Very sad way to treat loyal customers.

Good menu - good delivery service and EXCELLENT ribs

Arrived hot and prompt. However I have had nicer Chinese’s in Colchester. Special fried rice pork looked a little odd, so I steered clear of eating it. Lemon chicken wasn’t crispy either. It was okay and edible but nothing special.

Had takeaway delivered, about an hour's wait on a Friday evening. The chicken breast curry was very nice, large slices of breast meat in a tasty sauce. Special fried rice was also good, but beware their rice portions are large, I struggled to eat it all, so maybe sharing next time! The dry ribs are a favourite as are the sweet and sour chicken in batter. We were all very happy with our meals.

Visited the takeaway this week. And it would appear there has been a positive change, the food ordered was all very very good, I couldn't fault it in any way. The Mongolian crispy lamb was excellent, so to was the Kung po chicken and the set menu for 1. Staff in the takeaway are polite and the food was prepared in under 15 minutes. Prices are also a little cheaper than some other Chinese takeaways in Colchester. I will definitely be going back.

This is the best Chinese take away in Colchester! Value and quality. The portions are always large and the food is always beautiful! I have tried other Chinese Take aways and been hugely disappointed and they were more expensive. I once was dragged to Banquet 69 which was supposed to be amazing. It was the worst experience and food I have ever encountered. The whole time I sat there thinking for what I just paid £180 for I could of got better quality and more for £25 at China City! Trust me this is the best and their aromatic Lamb with Pancakes is to die for!!!!! Also what I like about this Chinese Take away is that they let you swap items out. Their set meal is usually chow Mien or chop suey they let you swap that for something like Beef with Mushrooms. Same with Aromatic Lamb that comes with a sauce I don't like so they swap it out for Curry sauce. So simple. Delivery always fast and friendly. 10/10 every single time.

I have been ordering here for a few years. Last few months I feel it has gone downhill and the food disappointing. Spare ribs chewy and inedible... very sticky rice and generally stodgy. I don't like writing negative reviews but this take away needs to up its game. Disappointing and I don't think I will be using again. Chinese food should be fresh and tasty maybe the deliveries taking too long but its not good.

Been looking for a local Chinese for a while, decided to order from here tonight. Veg spring rolls ok, prawn crackers lovely, chicken balls amazing, beef chow mein good, lemon chicken really nice sauce quite watery but better than thick n gloopy. Will definitely use again!

Always very nice tasting food. Sometimes not as great as other times but I always try it again and it is back up to its standards previously. Since a man who speaks better English answers the phone and is at the service desk, I find it is a lot more friendlier as he is more welcoming than the previous person.

Absolutely love this chinese, always get really good quality chinese food and value for money.
