The beef pink and NOT beef don’t know what it was horrible tasteless but the hot and sober soup was beautiful

What a shame. Chicken wings were frozen (very dark bones) and 2 broken. Taste was ok. Satay sauce was shocking. More Evian than peanut sauce. Just no. Soup was ok. Ribs had like Zero meat on. Singapore noodles very average and the black bean sauce....... What black bean sauce. Apparently this takeaway has 4.2 stars. When. Seriously poor. Only good thing is it helped fill the trash can. What a shame

This has been our local Chinese for nearly 30 years and surprised to see so many negative reviews. In our personal experience we've always had great food. It's changed hands a few times but we've never suffered food quality wise.

Food was awful had to get a refund for the Tofu it was dry and bland. Worst chinese food i have tasted so sorry I wasted my money.

Genuinely the worst Chinese I’ve ever ordered. Such a shame. I read the one-star reviews and still decided to order (lesson learnt). If I wasn’t so stubborn about not wanting to waste money or food I think I would have binned it, but it was expensive and I couldn’t bear to waste that amount. I ordered two tofu dishes and I could tell immediately the tofu wasn’t fresh. It was tough and dehydrated around the edges and looked re-heated/microwaved. It was rough and dry in texture and chewy in a stale way. The sauces in both dishes were quite scarce and looked like they had just spooned 3 tablespoons on top. The peppers and onions were cut really small (which isn’t a problem) in both dishes but there was barely any of it. The Szechuan sauce had absolutely no heat to it at all (I’m usually fairly sensitive to spicy foods but still like the flavours) and mostly tasted of watered down honey. I also ordered hot and sour mixed vegetables. It came in a larger container but there were still barely any vegetables in it. Much more sauce in this one to be fair (in fact, it was mostly sauce), but it was not a hot and sour sauce as ordered. I think they had put sweet and sour sauce in (there were chunks of pineapple in it) with 1 shake of chilli flakes on top. I’ve given an extra star because the chips (or wedges?) were nice (unfortunately the only nice thing about the meal) and I had left a note stating that I couldn’t eat prawn crackers, so they sent 3 fortune cookies instead which I did appreciate. For those two things, I think it would be unfair of me to only give 1 star, but as a whole I do believe it was a 1 star meal at a push. I’m absolutely gutted to have wasted so much money on such a disappointing meal but I’ve learnt my lesson about listening to previous reviews now.

Food arrived a bit late but considering the A12 was shut and there was soo much traffic to the point that another Chinese takeout were cancelling our order we are not unhappy one bit. The food was piping hot and cooked amazingly. Will deffo order again!

Grumpy staff, food was bland dry. Ordered salt and pepper chips and got weird old roast potatoes. Won’t be going back. Very over priced for poor quality food.

Arrived half hour after the app said it had been delivered - rang them and they said it was now leaving.

Possibly the worst takeaway I’ve ever had ! This takeaway is usually brilliant the food is usually of a great quality not quite sure what’s happened the food was over an hour late been delivered, it was cold , dry and generally unpalatable going to be a while if not ever I order again !!!

Good Chinese takeaway, food is well cooked

We always order here because it’s our nearest but it is hit and miss. The duck was overcooked to the point of being very dry and hard to eat. The rice noodles were dry and 2 pieces of onion in. Not value for money this time and will look to order elsewhere in future

I can’t comment on atmosphere or food. I ordered at 6 was told it would be an hour. At 8:30 I called to check on where it was. I spoke to a girl who assured me it was out for delivery. At 9 it still hadn’t arrived. So we called again to be told they don’t have any knowledge of our order!! Worst service I have ever had no apologies.

Lovely delivery driver. I was sent spring rolls instead of sweet and sour chicken, probably a genuine mistake as I got the sweet and sour sauce. Curry was very watery.

The app said it was delivered 5 minutes late but it didn't arrive for a further 10 minutes. The food was only warm and the portions were smaller than I would have expected for the price.

Made a £70 order and received someone’s else order, which apart from the sweet and sour chicken was inedible and we had to throw it away. So instead of enjoying a nice Chinese, we got rubbish. To add insult I have been charged over £30 for something I did not order and certainly did not enjoy. This place is a joke and should be shut down. I for one, will never use it again.

Great food, good quality and quantity. The Driver was apologetic for a slight delay due to horrendous traffic (not his fault) but gave us a large bottle of soft drink as a compensation. Very happy kids. We’ll use again.

Rice was gloopy, curry sauce was as thin as water, Singapore noodles were clumped and stuck together very little flavour, haven’t had a Chinese in ages and this was a disappointment and waste of £50

Chinese takeaway is one of my favourite meals, so when I moved to the area I wanted to have a Chinese takeaway that was DELICIOUS. Fortune House is "Ok", I wouldn't say it is "amazing" but it is nice, edible and always hot. The staff are always friendly when we order and we will continue to order from here since it is a local and reasonably priced, an order will not make you broke!

The only place I know locally that still do what I call proper thick Chinese chips...salt and chilli ribs and beef chow mein was delicious

Since moving to Colchester, this is the best Chinese we have come across by far. However, we were a little disappointed with the 1/2 crispy duck, compared to other take away Chinese where the portion size was a little on the small side. Otherwise I would of put 5 stars.

satay sauce was brown water, their king prawns are hard don't ask for their broccoli with mushrooms as you'll be luck to receive 3 pcs that even resemble on top of that it was all barely warm, horrid waste of money and disappointment. I used this place years ago a few times and it was just as bad then from memory, I would have & wished I'd used my local in Kelvedon but they were too busy. Never Again!!

We stopped by for some food following a recommendation from a client. It was a very busy Saturday night and we were told the wait was 20mins which was spot on. Lovely choices on the menu, I had the honey chicken and my partner had sweet and sour pineapple ribs. Was delicious! Definitely returning.

Not as good as past visits unfortunately. The Hong-Kong sweet and sour chicken seemed to have been microwaved. When ordering at the counter the young lady was arrogant very poor communication. The wife and I wandered if they're under new management. Not to sure if we'll return.

1st time getting it delivered order at 17:00 didnt come till 19:00 as it was delivered to the wrong address food was nice

Awful, special chow mien was basically a tub of noodles, took 2.5 hours to arrive and they charged £4 for delivery despite our order being over £10. Not impressed.

We used this Chinese takeaway to deliver to our hotel in Colchester this cost 2.50 as of Aug 2019. The food was delivered hot in foil containers with free prawn crackers, we found the food to be of good quality and good value as ordered set meal for 2.

Ordered a delivery whilst staying at a nearby travelodge which was special chow mein fu yung chips and bbq sauce The delivery was over an hour when stated it was going to be 30_40 minutes The food was ok nothing to write home about,if anything it was a tad bland The chips were like over done wedges The delivery man was friendly enough though,he even brought my food to my room I'm sure people enjoy this takeaway it just wasnt to my taste

Been customer of sister fish and chip shop for 19 years. Never again. Just sent son in to get tea for us and overcharged and under gave order. When went in totally stonewalls. Lost a family over catching child out for £2. Stupid!!!

Charged me £6 for delivery for just down the road.Crispy chilli beef was re cooked, tough and chewy. Tasteless. Waste of a fiver.The other dish is supposed to be pork balls in batter.The only half decent bit was in the tin.Could have bought a roast, desert and drink from Toby for what I paid.Never again

Years ago food here used to be good but my last takeaway was tasteless rubbish. They even managed to make spicy Singapore noodles bland and the rice was horrible. Very disappointing.

we used this takeaway for the first time yesterday, although we live in layer de la haye about 3 miles away, the food arrived 10 minutes earlier than the hour they had stated (Friday night peak time) it was hot and of excellent quality. You do have to pay £4.50 for delivery but it was worth it.

Our first take-away for a long time and our first try at Fortune House. Placed our order by phone for 4 people and asked for delivery at 8.30pm. They were very polite and helpful. Meal arrived spot on time and driver was also friendly. All the dishes were hot, well packaged, looked good and tasted good, which was a pleasant surprise from other take-away experiences elsewhere.Would definitely use Fortune House again. Well done.

My Friend ordered Aromatic Duck & when we opened it at home, well, it wasn't just cooked it was cremated & very dry, inedible. The rest of the meal was ok ish.When this happens, I don't take it back, I just never use the place again & I advise other people to avoid.

Looked for somewhere to stop on way home from Stansted Airport. Am vegan so had to find somewhere simple that would cater for me, usually a mushroom curry and rice is a simple option so that’s what I went for. I made it clear I don’t eat egg or milk. My friend had a duck dish.

This chinese was new to me and i was skeptical but it was so nice. I ordered the pork chow mein and chicken wings and the chow mein was really good but i wasn't fond of the chicken wings but i think that's just personal taste. Delivery took quite a while (about an hour) but it was worth it!

Stopped here after nightmare journey due to roadworks, thefood made up for the trip. My wife had chicken and mushrooms and I had sweet chilli chicken, both were very enjoyable

"Fantástico! "pensamos. "Volveremos a utilizar regularmente". Sin embargo, una segunda orden trabajan menos. Era tarde (que, en un día muy ocupado de la semana y hora) y fue tibia y parecía que había sido recalentadas en gran parte. No es bueno. El veredicto? Bien, sólo puede ser "mixtos", no? Que pueden producir la comida es muy buena, pero a veces no lo hizo.

Mi marido y yo hemos usado este para llevar un número de veces desde el trasladarse a la zona y no puedo recomendarlo lo suficiente. La comida siempre es fresca y no como otros lugares terriblemente grasosa en la zona. Nunca he tenido una comida que me gusta y disfrutar de la incursión tratando diferentes platos porque sé que cualquier intento será delicioso!

Although the prices have recently gone up, it is definitely worth it and cheaper than many other Chinese takeaways around the area. the staff were very kind and the food were of good quality. I will revisit when I have time.

I use Fortune House regularly as they provide quality Chinese food at an excellent price! consistent quality means you can guarantee your meal if entertaining. Staff are very friendly and helpful with prompt service. Would recommend it!

it is sad to say that i used to reccomend this chinese to everyone. now if asked i would say do not use, staff on phone are rude. delivery takes over two hours, food is cold as cant find house but do not phone. will never use this chinese again

Wow ! we had friends to stay over Saturday night and decided to have a Chinese takeaway as my other half has been telling me how much he has enjoyed a couple of takeaways from here whilst I have been away working, he said it's the best he has had in ages . He wasn't wrong plenty of it fantastic taste we had several dishes, all were delicious a few dishes were on the cool side but nothing to complain about we popped it in oven for few mins perfect .We are very lucky to live 10 mins from the Fortune House so we use free delivery .

We now live in Ardleigh but every now and then will drive to collect to enjoy their food, chilli beef the best, spicy, full of flavour and saucy. Generous portions and so much more flavour in all the dishs, price standard for chinese takeaways in the area.

We were driving back from a long trip, so I checked my phone to see if there were any chinese takeaways not far off the A12 so we could stop off for some food. Fortune House popped up, right off the A12 on the slip road at the Marks Tey exit. To be honest we weren't expecting a lot. We stopped there, ordered our food, and it was ready pretty quick, less than a 10 minute wait.... And wow, the food was amazing. By far the BEST chinese food I have eaten in a long time! We had mushroom chow mein with egg fried rice and a mushroom curry, and plain egg foo yung. The quality and flavours were just phenomenal. So so good. We will recommend this place to everyone we know! Will definitely make the trip back there again !
