Wimpy Colchester in Colchester

I useful to eat at Wimpy at least 3 times a week back in the 70’s. The quality of the food today was bad, Flavourless. Presentation was okay. Won’t be going back to wimpy:(

Ate here for first time yesterday. Absolutely delighted, choice of food great, well cooked & served nice & hot. Clean & tidy. Staff very polite, helpful & knowledgeable. Will certainly visit again

Fabulous!!Just popped in today as needed something quick. We had looked in a few other places and were either ignored or directed to dirty seats or loud blaring music made it impossible to talk. Wimpy gave us a great welcome as soon as we walked in, were prompt with service, coffee was really good and the food arrived quickly and just hit the spot. All the staff were smiley and friendly. Thank you so much😃

First and last time at wimpy. Very overpriced and underwhelming food. Portions are small and just not exciting at all. Only positive was nice staff. Place was packed out with people which I was very surprised by. Cost £20 for one main meal, one child's meal and drinks. Child meal was literally a few chips and two pieces of tiny chicken. My advice, go to any of the wonderful small owned cafes in Colchester instead

Went in there at 5pm today. The staff were cleaning the floors and told us it was take away only. It closes at 6. There is no sign on the door or note online saying you can't eat in at 5pm. The staff weren't polite at all. They said it was the manager's decision. Obviously they just wanted to get out of work at 6.

Freshly cooked food with waiter/ waitress service. Prefer Wimpy to the big American burger chains any day!

Spicy bean burger delicious, a pot of tea which is always a plus and table service by very polite staff.

Haven't been to a wimpy in about 35 years So when I came across this one I went and had a special with a tea followed by waffles and ice cream.

It wasn't the same as what I remembered when I was a kid. I find it the high street equivalent to a little chef. The service was okay, friendly enough. Atmosphere was ok, there wasn't a lot of people in from what I saw. The food was adequate, maybe I ordered the wrong meal, but sadly I do not like chip scuttle held chips with freshly cooked chips. It confuses my mouth and mind when you have one mouth which are hot but the next are near on the colder side of warm. The beans were hot though so that's a positive. Eggs overcooked in my opinion, bacon nah, bendy sausage,..nah. The chef/cook should know that her hair is not supposed to loose but needs to be under a hat or a hairnet, even both, Also I think you'll find that no jewellery is to be worn. Food Safety level 2. I'm surprised it has a high food on the doors score. When cleaning tables you are supposed to spray the cloth, not the table. People are allergic to sanitiser must/spray. It also has to have a 30 second wait time for the product to work. Saying all that, quite reasonable and my companions liked it.

Been coming to colchester whimpy for year but unfortunately had a awful experience with the young manager yesterday he was very rude I asked for a breakfast muffin which was burnt and complained about which obviously he didn't like so I asked for the man who has always been the manager there hes a lovely man, anyway, this young manager accused me of being racist about the other manager not sure why to be honest I think it's just because I complained about the burnt food and he didn't like and was trying to play at being a grown up and thinking he was important, it was really dirty in there yesterday too and the toilet was filthy no soap or toilet paper not been cleaned for days. I really hope the other nice manager comes back.

Fish and chips was not very nice and cold peas. Would not eat there again.

The best tasting burgers in town.

Do like a Wimpy. This one isnt my favourite, However it was very busy on a Saturday lunchtime. Bit heavy handed with the ketchup on the burgers (more ketchup than burger) and it was disappointingly Heinz rather than their own brand. Missing item off, of order but it was very noisy so perhaps wait staff misheard. In the middle of town shopping centre, this was a treat but next time will probably go to an alternative as the experience was disappointing.

Very kindly made me some food just before closing time and it was delicious, hot and plenty of it. Thank you

Food was decent but not for the price 32 pounds for 2 people for breakfast is very steep for quality of the food aswell Other than that everything else was pleasant

Love wimpy Colchester can't fault it

Empty. Still can’t serve you. Do they just give you a menu and expect you to ESP your choice? Shouldn’t even be open as a restaurant with all the toilets out of order. Avoid like the plague.

Compared to the Clacton branch food was much better quality and service was fairly quick however we had about 10 minute wait for my nephew's ice-cream

A taste from the past. Loved it

First thing I noticed was that the usual Manager was missing? Hopefully just on holiday or a day off, otherwise Wimpy will be the next restaurant closed. I took my five year old Grandson for lunch. I ordered two coke floats a cheese burger and chips and a bendy and cheese and chips. We were sat opposite the serving area when I saw my Grandson with a confused look on his face. The staff member was mixing the ice cream with the coke, which made it look like a Vanilla Milkshake. I asked "What are you doing?" They are supposed to be coke floats? Put the ice cream into the coke and floats, that's why it's called a coke float??? They then remake them properly. My Grandson is then served a Cheese Burger without any cheese? The waitress then takes the burger with her hand and puts a cold cheese square in the burger and hands it back to my Grandson? Nice venue, Poor Service by people who really haven't got a clue how to run a restaurant. I normally prefer Wimpy over any other burger restaurant in Colchester even though it is more expensive, but this potentially could be my last visit. Shocked at how bad this visit was!!!! Well seen the Manager and his Dad were absent as this would never had happened on their watch!

Great reminiscent food, little pricey but pleasant and tasty, staff were great.

My go to fast food. Decent veggie options. Always nostalgic and tasty. Far less greasy than the other notable chains.

Pleasant alternative to our usual eatery in Colchester. Good food, and helpful staff.

I was not impressed , I sat there with a friend who ordered a chicken wrap, I had not much choice as a vegetarian. I ended up not ordering anything, I did not like the atmosphere or the menu. Will not go again, I personally would not recommend. The place should perhaps consider an upgrade of their menu items.

Quick and easy service and really nice food

First time we,ve been for ages, it was OK and the food was good but it wasn't very warm in there. When it was really cold outside.

Food was standard whimpy food but definitely bought a hint of nostalgia! Quiet when we visited which was lovely and very clean. Relaxed, friendly and helpful staff too Overall pleasant experience

Had quite a lot to eat while their place is quite good for meals .

Since being a teenager a wimpy cheeseburger has been my go to comfort food. Their ketchup is amazing with perfectly cooked chips. I even did a short stint of waiting tables as a youngster, earning pocket money giving myself the freedom from having to keep asking my parents for their hard earned cash.

I ordered a meal deal with 2 burgers for outside eating in the park but the staff forgot to put the drinks in the box which they said that everything was in it. The service was quick. Please do check your food/things when ordering meal deals 🙂

For a good burger with a low price tag, it's really good 👍🏽

Gotta love a 1/2 pounder and a milk shake. Not sure it's as good as it was in the 70s but its still a treat even at 50 odd years old !

Delicious! We lost our wimpy in our town so it was nice to have it again. The staff were a little bit useless in some respects sadly, as they got iur order wrong and then over charged us. They did happily rectify this however.

We visited Colchester Castle today and then when to Wimpey 5mins away in the High Street. It was nostagia really as not been in a Wimpy for several years. It was not crowded and was spotlessly clean inside. There are outside tables but in this heat wave we stayed inside. Its s good inexpensive menu with bean burgers as well as the normal beefburgers etc. Good desserts as well. Will visit sgain.

We asked for a table for 7, and was given the choice to all fit into a booth made for 4 or sit in booths on opposite side of the cafe. My friend pointed out there was a free booth next to us and we could spread out across them both and the young girl rolled her eyes, got annoyed and then agreed. I was sat in one booth with 3 other girls and the other booth had my 3 male friends. The girl clearly took a liking to my guy friends as they both got drinks order taken and served first as well as cutlery given to them before our drink order was even taken. Just as our drinks were served, my friends had there burgers brought to them, i had tried to get the girls attention by calling out, she looked towards our booth and turned around and walked away. We told the boys to eat there food before it got cold. But we were left waiting for 10 minutes before i was presented with a kids pancake and ice cream (singular pancake despite menu stating "pancakes") that i had asked to be put in a to go box for when i left. I tried to explain this but the girl had walked off before i had a chance. I ended up just eating it as the ice cream had melted all over the table and it was too late to salvage. Then 5 minutes after that, our burgers were ready. The boys had already finished and our waitress was more than happy to ignore us once again to talk to them. Overall experience was atrocious, the food was average and the price extortionate. We'll stick to McDonald's next time.

Staff were friendly and attentive. Food was classic Wimpey style (slightly better than mcdonalds). Was a bit suprised about the price though. £18 for 1 kids sausage and chips and 1 adults double cheeseburger and chips, and 2 pepsis. I enjoyed the food but I can never go back because I hate being made to feel ripped off.

Absolutely disgusting service and food ! Cold chips .awful burger .dead fly on chip when served .we complained and was told a manager would come over , which she never did .went to pay .her attitude stunk .wasn’t at all bothered .all the staff was miserable .and made you feel bad even asking for anything .never again .and toilets were filthy .

I have loved the wimpy since a child.. and I go into the one at Colchester on and off, food never lets us down good old burger and chips, with alternatives and veggie stuff! Nice staff, quick service fabulous little burger bar

Food was microwaved. Table was dirty. Bathroom had a miniature toilet. Staff were just chatting before we walked in then when we did walk in, made themselves look busy by doing anything Price for what we got was far too much Partner ordered a chocolate milkshake. Said last three sips had a strong flavour then it was just milk Will not be going back

I've always been the person to like Wimpy's but the milkshake machine was broke! AND THE MILKSHAKES ARE THE BEST PART!

Been going to this Wimpy for 21 years and never had a bad experience. The food has always been freshly cooked and tasty and service has never been bad. The proprietor took over from his father and has continued to provide an excellent Wimpy experience.

Fresh and quick food. I love a wimpy and am glad this one hasn't shut. Milkshakes are lush and you gotta try the burger sauce. Only bad points to my visit was that I had to chase up the desserts and the toilets were freezing cold!

A well maintained and run fast food establishment at a delightful East Coast Felixstowe, with very helpful and friendly staff. Food is always up to high quality and has a very full menu. Offers are always available, such as 2 for 1 desserts. I have eaten at many different Wimpy Bars over 50 years and can honestly say the standards have always been great.

Not the wimpy flavour i remember as a kid...but ok in all service here was good saff efficient enough food was served hot...milkshake was great and my nephew loved his sausage and chips.....6 out of 10..for me

Don't order from these people you order a classic quater pounder they send a burger with tomato sauce And not willing to fix there mistake if I could score lower than a 1 star I would They charge alot for there food you should get what you order don't use don't use don't use

Clean environment and the staff were very friendly. Ordering was quick and easy and we could just stop in for a drink. They had seating outside, although it was a bit cold for that on this visit.

Overpriced good for what it is. Terrible management and the owner is a liar and a thief (I worked there for several ours and still waiting on my pay months later, I am now being ignored). Do not waste your money here

First time to this branch of Wimpy and loved it! The place was spotlessly clean and we were greeted and served by polite staff who checked we were happy with our order half way through our meal. I ordered the American pancake stack with bacon egg and maple syrup and it was absolutely delicious! Highly recommend! Doing a grand job guys!

i have wimpy about once a year and it is always a welcome change from to other chains. the burger may not be the biggest but has good flavour along with some special sauce. the staff were very polite and happy.

Unclean area to pay for food ( can see area where drinks where made was also unclean). My burger was still stone cold , also still had lettuce when i specifically said no lettuce. Unorganised and chaotic. Nice milkshake though

Overpriced definitely not worth it

First wimpy I've had since i was a kid, now Im taking my kids! was good food, friendly staff and nice and clean, will go back again!

Was ok, food could be better French fries very dry, sausage's not the best of quality by a long shot, best item on the plate was the egg, waitresses were polite friendly and efficient though and hard working.

Friendly service but very over priced for wimpy and not very tasty, I left the burger which tasted boiled and canned at the same time and the chips were over cooked with no potato inside 🙃 only thing that was good was the orange tango which they don't cook

Went for lunch to Colchester wimpy 4 th June , my husband and I decided to go on a nostalgic trip with our three young granddaughters, we had two wimpy grills , the sausages and burgers were so hard and dried up think they were cooked several hours before being served and fries were lukewarm so disappointed, the children's meals were the same over cooked burgers and chicken strips . Won't be going down memory Lane in Colchester wimpy ever again .

Awful service got drinks & meal order wrong. Burger tasted like cardboard. Ordered decaf tea but I bet it wasn't as the teabag was not marked as such. Won't be going their again.
