Bricklayer's Arms in Colchester

Male member of staff think named Lee was rude and looked under influence of something as he stared into thin air. Pitty as the pub is nice just some staff ruin the atmosphere. Been a couple times and if I see this staff member again I’ll walk out before even ordering if I return.

Great pub to watch football in Beer at reasonable prices

Friendly staff and pleasant surroundings also a reasonable size carpark. You have to register your vehicle inside. Didn't have any food at the time so can't comment on it.

Great boozer. Friendly staff and well stocked bar. Happy hour from 2pm until 5pm! What’s not to like!!! 😀

Several different areas to enjoy food/drink, including a public bar. Basic menu. Reasonably priced. Good range of beer. I disliked the 2 TV screens on the wall. They need to be turned off when nobody is viewing.

Love going to this pub when I’m in the area, very clean, old traditional style looking pub, which I like in a pub. Simple but always well executed menu. Feels like a good “local’s” pub, but me and the wife have never felt uncomfortable. The last time I was in this pub, there was an issue with the app, I don’t normally use apps. I like to walk to the bar, be nosey, have a chat. But on this occasion the wife had, had a procedure at the local hospital so wanted me to stay with her. Anyway the staff noticed the issue before I’d even realised. I was charged 3 times. The two managers both approached me immediately, and explained the problem and dealt with it instantly. Totally satisfied with the outcome. Highly recommend this venue, and its food.

The young waitress had us waiting for almost 10 minutes while collecting the plates from 3 tables. When she finally talked to us at 8.24pm she said that "We literally stopped serving food 5 minutes ago". She also added: "For future reference, the kitchen closes at 8.30pm"! Thanks dear, we are not coming back again.

I parked there to attend a retirement 'do' on the 14th September and received a £60 parking fine! I didn't know I had to input my car registration number into a machine in the pub and wasn't aware of any signs telling me to do so. I had to pay the fine straightaway as I was going away shortly after so didn't have time to contest it. I see that other people have also been caught out by this, so beware !

Apparently barred 3 months ago, from a pub I've only ever been in to for a couple of social beers and food.. Apparently I was in the toilet for 2 hours and left my backpack there.. I havent owned a backpack since I was in school... I'm 32 years old.. attitude from barmaid and no chance of even talking my case... other than that I used to have a lovely time there with my partner and occasionally my sister

Wanted to thank Lee and his team in allowing us to hold a wage for our Dad on Tuesday. Food and service and the relaxed atmosphere the team provided was simply perfect and such a lovely tribute to Eric who had drank in this pub on many an occasion.. Thank you again Martin and Anita.

Der Burger hat echt gut geschmeckt, die Leute waren nett, das Lokal ist geschmackvoll und interessant, mit unterschiedlichen Ebenen und Sitzarten eingerichtet. Im Sommer ist es im Schatten der Bäume im Ausserbereich sicher gemütlich.

Somewhat dead vibes in this pub but it was the only one near the station. My ale was acceptable though had suspiciously colourful bubbles in the foam ( bit of cleaning liquid in pipes maybe ). If they improved the lighting and got rid of the 90s carpets it would be a nice pub

This is a really nice pub with a great atmosphere. There is a lovely outside area with a cover over it for when it rains and you can turn a heater on when it gets cold. There is a good selection of drinks and they now serve food. The staff are really nice too. The location is right next to the train station so it is good for commuters.

Went to Bricklayers Bergholt Road 2oclock for beer and bit of lunch got there just before 2 pub pretty empty ordered food at 2 pizza brie wedges and chips came nearly 1 hour later didn't understand why as no 1 else eating. chips Rock hard .brie hard and cold. pizza nice and hot but doughy undercooked and greasy without don't the worse food I've ever had out and how the devil it took nearly a hour beggers believe .we used drink in there and good pub I'll send Gordon Ramsey to sort it out 0/10.

Nice place, tight parking and don't forget to register your car when you come in the door. Happy hour was an absolute bonus.

Great night watching the football and the beer was very reasonably priced

Disappointing food Ordered 2 paninis, had to get a pizza taken off my bill I never ordered. The paninis came and were dry with barely any filling in them, very disappointing. We came to try the new food menu. We didn't want to go back and complain as I'd already been back once to get the random pizza I didn't order refunded.

Only went in for one, but a cracking pub, decent locals, good selections of beers and a good beer garden. I would recommend it.

Unassuming from the front but lots of space (including outside) at the rear. Decent selection of drinks & snacks as well :)

Popped in for a drink at lunch time on the 8/7/22 for one hour. I’m now getting demands for £100 from a private parking scam company for using the pub car park! Any signage certainly wasn’t obvious. In fact, the opposite because I didn’t see one single sign. This is disgusting and is not the way to treat customers. If I’d parked there all day and got on a train, I could understand it, but I was there for an hour at lunch time. It should be obvious that I’d popped into the pub for lunch!

Nice drinks nice environment and an enjoyable afternoon, big shout out to the barman who gave my friends son some crisps!!

The Bricklayers Arms is close by to Colchester train station and it served it's purpose for a quick pint before the train. I ordered a Guinness and it was poured basically in one in about 10 seconds and was very average to say the least. I would pop in again though if I was passing through as it had a pool table and is close to the station.

Nice pub with seating and parking at the rear. Dog friendly, plenty of staff so virtually no waiting and nice people 🍺

Nice pub, good beer, nice staff, reasonable food. The only caveat is that it can get very noisy here particularly of a Friday evening exacerbated by two large TV screens directly adjacent to one another. If you like a lively well appointed pub conveniently situated close to Colchester main station the Bricklayers is ideal.

Convenient pub for station for football fans. Good selection of ales, friendly staff and punters. One of the few southern pubs I've been to where the staff pull the ale with a good head to it without having to ask.

Food was great, drink is reasonably priced and very dog friendly! Gave my puppy a water bowl and everyone was friendly. Outdoor space has been redone and looks lovely

Visited this pub last week for a quick pit stop. We had a drink only. Service was quick & friendly. The pub was beautifully clean and tidy and the wooden tables gleamed. Was a lovely visit and will definitely be returning.

Good selection of ales and a nice, but limited, menu. Burgers(patties) were very good. Avoid the tin seats though,they are cold and you slip on them.

I popped in for a drink and 12 days later have received a fine for £100 reduced to £60 if payed early. They have stated on other reply’s to reviews of this nature that it is obvious and signed around the car park but when dark and not something you are looking for, never in your wildest dreams would you think a local pub would have payed parking. At least there should be a 1st time reprieve and a lesson learnt. Maybe not to go back would be better,however much they might contest that It isn’t their fault. Totally disappointed and pity others who pay to visit. Was a good pub but do not recommend. There are other ways to appreciate your customers and stop people parking ( give them a receipt to take back to car )

Great, friendly pub which shows many different sports, choice of food also available. I would recommend a visit.

Loving the £2.50 a pint from 3pm too 7pm food was great as well.

Great selection of beers including staropramen on draft, food is very good for a pub also. Reasonably priced and always have the football on.

Outdoor seating is either by the road or in a small courtyard. Lots of indoor seating. Good beer selection and reasonable cider. Menu limited to burgers and wings but they were very good.

Went on Tuesday for the first time in a long while. Much improved menu (Burgers, wings and ribs) and great service by friendly bar staff.

Food was incredible , generous portion sizes , would definitely order in again.

We’ve ordered so many times from here and can’t ever fault the food! Obsessed with the loaded pulled pork chips and genuinely the best burgers. Love the fact they have opened more now so people from all around essex are able to try this amazing food.

Nice comfortable pub, service a little hit and miss. Some staff members are very good and some are more interested in talking amongst themselves. Think the food could be better. Wings, ribs and burgers served on a tray with wooden knife and fork by an unfriendly waitress isn’t really my cup of tea. The menu before was better.

Came to the brick layers, had a drink and ordered some food. Service was quick and friendly and the food was amazing. I’ve been ordering since BWR started at the bus and they just keep getting better and better. Quality of the food is amazing and the presentation is amazing too! Can’t wait to come back!!

Popular locals pub near Colchester mainline Station. Food served. Caution required if walking from the station exit, especially when busy with traffic!

Good for beer, a decent range but the food was average at best, with no vegetarian or vegan options.

Food was great, chicken tenders especially. Presented well and arrived in around 40mins, will use again
