The best restaurants in Babergh East of England

The Brook accommodated a small group of us at fairly short notice, despite being busy. Our servers were friendly and helpful, and the food was plentiful, beautifully cooked and delicious. We all had something different, and everyone was very happy with their choice. We really couldn't have asked for a more enjoyable lunch.

We had dinner bed and breakfast here for our anniversary, the room was amazing and the staff couldn’t do any more for us.. even making arrangements for my husband to have his favourite lobster 🦞 I would highly recommend the Lion and we will definitely be returning in the summer to sit in their lovely gardens. My husband myself and our 🐕 were staying over for the night and a nearby ⛺site ,one of the locals had told us how this pub restaurant had gone down hill and was only a 🌟 and to avoid . We always like to try places for ourselves, and make up our own minds , we were not disappointed .very quiet only 1 young couple with a toddler eating a meal when we arrived and a group with a child arrived abit later and maybe a couple more who just came in for a drink . We were welcomed with a smile by a very friendly chap who served behind the bar, took our food order, waited on us , and made a fuss of our dog 🦴. The menu had a variety of different dishes, and food was full of flavour . I would definitely recommend the red lion .

Lovely village pub, friendly welcome, good food at sensible prices. Dogs allowed in the bar. Oscar our spaniel enjoyed the dog treats. Would certainly recommend.

First time we've been there. It's definitely worth a visit, and we will be back. We had the breakfast bap, superb.

Found this place online . Was looking for a nice little family pub to take the kids on a Saturday early evening somewhere with some stuff for the children to do . Looked on their website and they had pictures of a big children’s play area with lots of things for them to do . So all excited jumped in the car took the 30 minute drive there to walk into the garden and not a children’s toy in sight 🤦🏻‍♂️ my heart sank . Was completely shocked no mention on the website or anywhere that’s it’s now gone . Saying that if you haven’t got kids and want a nice quiet pub with a ok garden it’s not a bad place but definitely won’t be going back .staff where friendly.

My wife and I enjoyed lunch and dinner here before staying overnight and if one word is needed to sum up this place it would be 'charming'. The location is charming, the building is charming and all the staff are charming. Linda is a lovely hostess and instantly makes you feel at home. The facilities are spotless and the prices are very reasonable. Particular mention goes to the chef. Not only is the food absolutely delicious and exquisitely presented but it is always piping hot. Already planning a return trip and stay.

We come here often. Love the drinks, setting, atmosphere and excellent food, particularly the quality food vans. Very special.

Easy booking and on date / time required, shown to table ordered drinks and mains course ,well cooked and excellent presentation managed to order and eat desert, mains Turkey, Roast+Roast beef Desert Christmas pudding,+ apple +crumble

Lovely to see a pub renovated to a high standard & turned back into a pub again (not a house) great food & beer great staff all very friendly even down to the locals (lol).

I must start by stating my reviews always reflect how I feel regarding expectation vs reality. I'd heard good things so had a reasonable expectation that the food would be good. My wife and I started with some nibbles and starters to share. King prawn each, squid, caprese salad, olives and arancini. All were delightful, especially the king prawns. For main I had a prawn linguine ( waiter recommended) and my wife had the ragu. I must confess that the cream sauce worries me a little, it often tastes of little else but cream. However, this sauce had good depth. You could taste lemon, tarragon and a hint of chilli, which were all very pleasing on the palate. The prawns were brilliantly cooked and plentiful. Really good dish. My wife's ragu was similar in quality. Rich meat sauce and well made /cooked pasta. We had the small plates and they were plenty big enough with starters! Very generous portions. Overall a really good experience. All food was washed down with a decent bottle of red (montelpuciano D'abruzzo). The service was excellent from all staff but particularly the young lady whose name i forget (maybe the Influence of the wine ).. Excellent value for money, really good food, excellent service, a job very well done. And all for £90 with a tip! Brilliant!
