Rose and Crown Elmsett in Babergh

Found this place online . Was looking for a nice little family pub to take the kids on a Saturday early evening somewhere with some stuff for the children to do . Looked on their website and they had pictures of a big children’s play area with lots of things for them to do . So all excited jumped in the car took the 30 minute drive there to walk into the garden and not a children’s toy in sight 🤦🏻‍♂️ my heart sank . Was completely shocked no mention on the website or anywhere that’s it’s now gone . Saying that if you haven’t got kids and want a nice quiet pub with a ok garden it’s not a bad place but definitely won’t be going back .staff where friendly.

Thank you to Shaun, Sophie and all the staff at The Rose & Crown. They put on an outstanding spread for my mums 80th birthday with lots of beautiful, fresh, tasty prepared food. The service, atmosphere and super friendly welcome from Shaun & Sophie was amazing and made the day all that extra special. Everyone said how lovely the food, staff and atmosphere was. We would all highly recommend the Rose & Crown for any functions and occasions. Thank you to all of you.

Had the beer and burger offer was great, definitely go again

I moved here one year ago, although I don't drink every week I know what I can expect when I go there. My first visit was a shock, in a very good way, they were friendly and welcoming, not intrusive but polite and curious. I don't think I have been in a pub with such open arms, and it's not just the staff, the local people are just as welcoming and friendly.

Lovely village pub - atmosphere and food smashing

Visited here for drinks with the family while we were staying in Elmsett. I've not laughed like that for a long time. Everyone was very welcoming and instant banter. The staff were very fast and polite and Shaun, the landlord, was a cracking guy. I will definitely be returning here again when I'm in that area. (Only reason I didn't out a food star is I didn't get around to eating here but have been assured its very good)

I had asked Shaun the landlord if he would be able to provide a BBQ and buffet for some of my family members so we could get together and celebrate the birth of my ninth grandchild who arrived on fathers day. Shaun, his sister Sophie and brother Ross were all instrumental in ensuring this event was a plesant experience and I must not forget the bar staff who coped extremely well despite the wrath of a prior event. A wonderful spread of food awaited us, this was not just what i had hoped for, this was much more than that with food spare. I could not have dreamed of such a banquet, fit for meat eaters, vegetarian, vegan and celiac alike, all explained so there was no cross contamination for anyone and special items were cooked on order. The spread was so good and in such abundance that I invited many more people from the pub to partake of the food and not skimp on the portions they gave themselves. Everyone was grateful and full, happy and had a wonderful time celebrating the new arrival and time spent together, obviously the children enjoying themselves in the large enclosed garden area was the main attraction and like the food didn't disappoint at all. Since moving to Elmsett we have been to this great pub quite a few times and enjoyed each visit. Shaun and family are great hosts and make everyone very welcome. The food menu is expanding and enjoyable. They have themed food evenings, go there on Thursday as they serve the best burgers.

Want there after a funeral the spread was excellent and plenty of choice

I'll say it again, if you haven't been here and experienced the camaraderie of Saun & his team, then you've missed out on what a village pub is really like. Helen cooks a good meal too Update. Sadly, Dennis is no longer with us but Sean, his Son, is keeping it going. Update: it's as good as ever, Sean makes sure all are welcome. Cheers Sean

This friendly little pub in beautiful South Suffolk hosted a surprise birthday party for my little wife. They were relaxed, calm and nothing was too much trouble. We all had a lovely time! Thank you Sean, Thank you Ellen!

We have had numerous meals here including bar meals and there fantastic Sunday roast. All freshly cooked and excellent value . Well worth a visit . Always greeted with a warm welcome . And good beer ,and a fantastic beer garden with plenty of toys for the children . What more could you want . Just an update Shaun does absolutely fantastic five star fish and chips.

Went to rose and crown for the £10 burger night, food was lovely, service was friendly and fantastic as always, such a good deal! I’ve been the rose and crown many times for drinks as we always support the local football team, it is such a hidden gem, elmsett are lucky to have this pub.

I visit this pub on a regular basis, as its very welcoming and serves good food and beer. The barmaid Helen is very much on the ball and is very kind and caring. There's regular live music played there and the atmosphere is great.

I have had lovely meals at this pub. The food is home cook and hot. The service is first class as serving the general public is a very difficult job. The landlord always makes us feel very welcome. Fantastic place.

We have just had the most amazing meal with outstanding service. We were a table of 13 and the food was served piping hot with all kinds of veggies, the meat was cooked perfect. We will be returning again and again, Thank you for your hospitality x

Friendly people great atmosphere good food

After viewing a house in Elmsett 2 years ago we decided to head to the local to sample the food and mull over whether to move to the village or not. After one of the best roasts I've had, a few drinks and an old school pudding of syrup sponge and custard coupled with the friendly atmosphere, beer garden packed with toys for the kids and excellent customer service our decision was made for us! Thank you for making our first, and by no means last, experience of The Rose and Crown so enjoyable and thank you for taking the time to make sure that all of our family were comfortable and happy through out the time we were there. Our 3 children especially enjoyed the moment, after they had eaten their dinner and pudding, when they were offered a bag of malteasers to take for the road. Which they of course ate straight away and never made it to the car! We have since frequented the pub for a few drinks and various other events and cannot fault it. Lovely food, big portions, but interior doesn't look very pub like...

This pub is 5 star all round. Have eaten roast dinners for 2.... but best of all, they allowed me to hold my wedding reception here! I took over the whole garden with a marquee and they provided a 5 star 3 course meal for all 55 guests and also took extra effort to allow for children and two family members who suffer with Coeliac Disease, everyone complimented the quality of food and service....not to mention the DJ and top class bar service they provided!! Thank you to all of your team for making our day the best.xxx

After booking a Sunday lunch at this pub for my children and grandchildren we waited 55 minutes for our meal, when it arrived, my two grandchildren waited a further 20 minutes, the food was cold, boiled roasted chicken, a vegetarian option consisted of a plate of cold vegetables and a jug of meat gravy!! After complaining the owner who was a very rude man decided to broadcast our complaint to his regulars at the bar. This all coupled with the television with the football on and the fact the pub itself was freezing, the poor standard of food the shocking customer service and the rudeness of the owner I don’t think we would return despite living in Elmsett for several years If you do book a meal ensure that you may be waiting over an hour and more for your meal

Extraordinarily poor service. Food not much better. After complaining, owner proceeded to tell other customers he was familiar with about us. Extra warning if vegetarian; literally zero offerings on the sunday menu, bar a plate of anemic vegetables and one roast potato.

A great place to get a pint with some fine people. With some nice bar stools and a fresh coat of paint it would be the best place around.

Perfect! The Owners are awesome, Lovely people, very family oriented, kids are welcome, the atmosphere is warm and friendly and the Sunday lunch oh my Lord, it's as good, if not better than your mum's, and huge portions! I Live in Elmsett and we're so lucky! Our family recently lost our Father and had the wake there, amazing, they worked with us on all requests, the food was fantastic and the cost was really good.☺ They also have a huge beer garden and kids play ground with loads of toys, and covered smoking area. In the Summer they have live music, with top quality bands and they have a pool table and of course darts. Great music and sports events covered and large car park, basically everything you could dream of for a Pub. Give it a go anytime of year, you won't be disappointed! Cheers!! Howard Coates 😁

One of the best family pubs around, lovely large pub garden and plenty of space for the family. Meals are fresh and tasty while the drinks are served by great staff. Well worth a visit!
