We arranged to meet our Mother in Law for a meal for Mothering Sunday here last night. The place was welcoming from the get-go with friendly servers. My Father in law doesn't eat meat and isn't much of a fish lover either, so although the steak options suited 3 of the party, we were looking at a limited option for him. However, we asked Katie Partridge, the owner, if there were any other options, and she suggested a Thai banana flower dish. 🌼 Well, we all had a fine eating experience, Katie even bought out a Thai sauce for the 3 steak dishes, which was first class. We all had a really great time , the place was super friendly and extremely accommodating for our dietary likes. I can't remember having such a warm welcome from a pub as we did last night. Nothing appeared too much trouble and the food was delicious. Thank you 😊

We came across this little hidden gem, what a lovely pub. The service from chef Katie and Sally Anne was so friendly and welcoming, and made such a fuss of our little dog Milly. The pub has so much history and felt really cosy. Now for the food, we had the home made Thai green curry, banana curry and Jasmine rice, WOW it was gorgeous and we really pushed the boat out had starters and dessert, the whole experience was so lovely. We highly recommend this little pub and the people, also locals were so friendly. A lovely end to our week away and we will definately be back, thank you Katie and Sally Anne x

"Our weekend visit to the Fox and Hounds for Sunday roast lamb proved a delightful respite. The pub exuded a truly convivial atmosphere, welcoming both us and our young children with genuine warmth. The quality of the meal, coupled with the charmingly rustic ambiance, makes this country pub a highly recommended destination." We would have stayed all afternoon if it had a snug!

Frequented by us “locals”, ramblers, dog walkers, horse riders and cyclists alike, The Fox and Hounds Groton, with gorgeous (Gainsborough painted) views across the Box valley, has always been a great place to stop for a pint and watch the world go by. Tonight we enjoyed a fantastic Thai meal that has to be one of the best outside Thailand itself. Slow cooked melt in the mouth beef curry, crispy squid and lots more, total yum. Katie (chef/owner) was very welcoming and was able to prepare our food spicy or mild with a variety of meat/ vegetable options available, all food is cooked fresh and in house and it reflects in the depth of flavour. We were impressed with the customer care, we were asked for feedback and listened to, although the only complaint was the printing on the menu, which was already being addressed. We are going back next week !

We have had an absolute feast today! Katie and Charles Partridge are the owners of The Fox and Hounds , they have been running the business since November 2024 . Katie has left Scuba Diving behind in Thailand and is now running a thriving kitchen serving her authentic Thai meals alongside traditional English favourites. There are special evenings with Saturday being Steak dinners. I love the snack menu, which includes good old 1970's basket meals! Well, who doesn't love, Scampi & Chips. I must mention there's some lovely ice-cream and smoothies. The pub was lovely and warm and we had a great welcome from the friendly staff.

Fabulous Thai food for Valentine's night. Pub is always warm, with a great welcome from Kate, Charlie and their team. Pub classics (basket meals etc) also great. The type of place you can walk into by yourself and feel at home. This place is a gem - try it, you won't regret it!

You just can't go wrong with the Fox and Hounds! They sell proper pub food at reasonable prices. The quality is good and consistent, so you always know that you will have a great meal. The pub team are very friendly and welcoming. I've been coming to this pub for family meals for over 12 years, and despite having just moved out of the village, I'm confident I will continue to visit regularly.

Lovely little country pub run by very friendly and helpful staff. Food was quickly served and of good quality. Can't comment on the beer as I drank non alcohol drink as was driving. Only gripe is that the location is somewhat distant from society and takes a bit of effort to find it - but worth the effort when you get there 👍

Best Sunday roast! I like my beef thinly sliced and still moist. Not many places do it these days and you end up with a large hunk of beef turning chalky. This was perfect. Two styles of potatoes. A twee veggie ribbon wrapped around my veg. A Yorkshire worthy of the name. Everyone was incredibly welcoming for a bunch of tourists with their baby. The locals offered to take our photo, had a nice chat with some people inside. The toilet and sink were an old fashioned pink. There was a changing mat we didn't use. It all made me wish this was my local. Don't ever change.

I went to a rare lunch with my husband.it was all very well presented and the veg were cooked perfectly and fresh. The chicken and ham pie was lovely, I think it would have been better if it were an individual pie but enjoyable all the same. My husband although not a vegetarian chose the mushroom option and really enjoyed it. Would go again if out that way

This place could be so good, but the problem is they are so hit and miss. Sometimes you get a sandwich and it’s really good, full of filling and lovely and fresh, other times it’s not good at all, which when you’re paying best part of £5 for a sandwich, isn’t good enough, and you’d be better getting a packet sandwich from the local supermarket. Also, sometimes they really make you feel like you’re inconveniencing them by asking for a sandwich, or they haven’t got enough bread in stock, which surely defeats the object of a deli that does sandwiches?

If you’re after a classic country pub with no frills, just timeless charm and great food, The Wheatsheaf is the place to go. This old-fashioned gem is full of character, with its rustic interiors, warm ambiance, and a proper traditional pub vibe. The menu stays true to its roots, offering comforting, classic dishes without the need for modern twists. I tried the fish and chips, and it was everything you’d hope for—crispy, golden batter encasing tender, flaky fish, served with perfectly cooked chips. It’s hearty, satisfying, and exactly what a pub meal should be. Dog lovers will especially appreciate The Wheatsheaf, as it’s wonderfully dog-friendly. After a countryside stroll, it’s the perfect spot to unwind, with water bowls and even treats available for your four-legged companions. The staff were friendly, attentive, and clearly take pride in maintaining the warm, inviting feel of the pub. Whether you’re looking for a classic meal, a pint in a cozy setting, or somewhere to bring your dog, The Wheatsheaf is a true treasure.
