Found the cafe purely by accident, on the High Street, stopping in Loddon for something to do on a rather autumnal day. You will find it near to the take away and funeral services, but don't let that deter you...So glad we popped in! Wide choice of cakes and some savouries, including vegan and/or gluten free. Huge pot of tea! Pretty tea room, very well equipped single toilet. Family affair, mother and two daughters bake everything on site. Long chat with lovely Lisa, so enthusiastic about their business. We only tasted a quiche and blackberry cake, but goodness, so delicious, and if a hint of other produce from their fine hands, well worth a further visit or cake order. Apparently mum Julie runs craft classes upstairs too.. talented family. We wish you continued success and will hopefully see you next holiday.

Love it here, we come at least once a month, we've had breakfast baps, lunches, scones, coffee & cake and a fair few ice creams! Food is always delicious. Staff are always polite and service is good. They do get very busy which can mean a bit of a wait sometimes, but it's rare we've had to wait too long, and you only have to look around to see why you're waiting so it's not a big deal.

Firstly, our server, I think her name was Terri, was lovely, hardworking, attentive, very polite young lady. We couldn’t have asked for more. 5***** Sadly, the restaurant isn’t what it used to be, IT’S NOT South American food, just bog standard Pub Grub, which is fine if that’s what you want but we came here to celebrate our 34th wedding anniversary, checked the menu on Google prior to booking, but it’s not what you get when you arrive. The sharing platter to start was nice, quite a big portion. The main was returned as the steak was very over salted, the replace it , but by the time it came back, my husband had finished his meal and I was passed caring. Such a shame, high expectations for a lovely evening were dashed. Pictures below are what is advertised on Google. NOT WHAT YOU GET ON ARRIVAL.

Brilliant tour today of the Greene King Brewery. Despite not minding a beer or two, I’d never been on a brewery tour before and my knowledge of the beer making process was virtually non existent, but not anymore! Paul, our guide, was very engaging and a walking encyclopaedia of beer, brewing and local knowledge. Rounded off with a very generous tasting paddle, I was able to sample beers I probably wouldn’t normally try. Great experience and highly recommended.

This is now actually called the Alde Cafe. I’ve been twice in the last three days. There are fancier places along the High Street, but you will not get a better meal there than you will find at the Alde. Sean is a brilliant cook who prepares every dish with both flare and a respect for tradition. It was the best fry up I have had in the last twenty years, and a welcomed alternative to the recent tendency of serving them up in thali dishes, with about a tablespoon of beans in one and a cubic centimeter of toast in another. I just had the kedgeree, which was magnificently prepared with haddock from the smokehouses along the Shingle. There are many reasons to come to ever-beautiful Aldeburgh. But I’d rank breakfast or lunch at the Alde Cafe at the very top of my list.

Visit the pub for a band night recently and very disappointed in our experience. Band were fantastic but service from pub was appalling. The pub had advertised the evening as a live band and pizza night so would have surely staffed the pub appropriately but very much not the case-queues of people at the bar every time we went to get another drink and waiting nearly an HOUR AND A HALF for a pizza!!! If we had come out to the pub for a proper meal this would still be unacceptable but this was just for 2 pizzas of all things?!?! Really need to work on staffing as this is poor service by anyone’s standards. The worst part was that whilst we were in the long queue to place our order, a regular walked to the front of the queue and handed the barman his pizza order which was put through as a priority above those who had been waiting in line! Definitely in two minds now as to whether to return for the Beer Festival in August.

Fantastic food, love all the little extra touches and the staff were excellent. However, I felt we were left a long time without our drinks order being taken and drinks arriving. We’d read the whole menu several times and discussed it at length whilst supping on water, personally I like to sup on a glass of wine whilst deciding on what to eat and my husband would have liked to have had time to drink more than a few mouthfuls of his pint before his food arrived.

I visited Abantu three times for lunch and tea during a week in Cambridge. It was a refuge for me, in part because I wanted healthy vegetarian food, and this was hard to find elsewhere in Cambridge, and in part because the frenetic, touristy atmosphere of central Cambridge was really getting to me. Abantu is only a couple blocks away from the Market Square, but it has a calm, neighborly vibe. The staff is friendly and I liked everything I ate. As an American, I was delighted to find that Abantu offers several varieties of iced tea--often not easy to find in the UK.
