We planned to visit the cafe as a convenient halfway point on a bike ride. We arrived at the cafe a little later than planned and it was unfortunately closed so we took the opportunity to sit at the tables outside and have a break and grab a drink from our water bottles. The nice lady at the cafe stuck her head out the door and offered to make us coffee. Excellent coffee and great service. Thank you kind lady :-)

We always enjoy our visit to The Snug. The welcome regardless of how busy they are is always most friendly. My pea and mint soup that I enjoyed was absolutely five stars if six was available that is what I would award. The table was clean and tidy and the atmosphere was buzzing with so many customers all enjoying their fare. I really couldn't recommend this place more.

Sunday mid-day. The Snug was packed with cyclists all chatting away, making for a very lively atmosphere. My lunch of leek soup was absolutely top-notch and this was served at the same time with a tuna melt panini that was hot, well filled and tasted terrific. The salad it came with was crisp and fresh, was well dressed and the homemade coleslaw was a perfect combination. This was followed by a cake and coffee that I was also very pleased with. Although the cafe was very busy, the tables were still clean and the floor tidy just like the toilet. Even though the staff were hard-pressed all our food arrived in good time and their attitude and friendliness was first-rate.

It's now a regular meeting place for a group of half a dozen of us to get away for a light lunch and a catch up (or moan) about things. The place is comfortable, the staff friendly and the food is good. Nothing spectacular on the menu, but it's tasty and fresh food that is served. It can be busy as the great value of the place is getting spoken about by those who visit and pass the word on that... It is a good place to visit!

We found the Snug from an article in the local paper, listing cycling stops in Essex. This is an unpretentious little cafe, serving basic but good fare at reasonable prices, Welcoming staff in clean surroundings, all this and a pleasant ride through which is still unspoiled from housing development which seem's to be overtaking where we live in Essex. Nice chat with the lady who was running it on way out.

Very pleasant and contemporary cafe, appealing range of snacks and light meals. Just what this part of rural Essex needs and an asset to High Easter. What a pity therefore that the three staff on this occasion seemed more interested in chatting among themselves rather than interacting with the customer. No-one was interested in whether I enjoyed my fare, or cared if I stayed or left. Personal service decides whether small hospitality businesses thrive or go under, so the management need to look to themselves.

I passed this Café on the way to Pleshey a few weeks back and thought I must come back! So I brought someone who lives in my village and who enjoys country drives out - especially when they're as scenic as the drive over to High Easter, via Hatfield Heath. We had a lovely cup of tea, I had English Breakfast and my companion had green tea. The café is attractively decorated. I particularly liked the vintage and new photos on the wall - done as posters. The service was good and we were made welcome. Parking was easy in the forecourt right outside. You could sit outside as well - bench style garden furniture. The Café is all on the level, so good for access. Access to the loo could be a little narrow for some, yet clearly signed and reasonably accessible. Whilst we didn't eat on this occasion, I'd definitely come back with friends/family for a light lunch or a tea. Would recommend The Snug, especially for its location and welcome. The Village is very pretty and the countryside round about is so beautiful. It is also within striking distance of Pleshey with its castle remains, easy to go on there after.

The previous comments are not typical. Word of mouth reviews in the area are much more up beat. We use The Snug regularly, sometimes busy, sometimes not but we always receive a warm welcome. The food is of a great standard with enough choice that you know it is all freshly prepared. It is clearly a favourite watering hole for cyclists who turn up constantly. We decided to take my parents out somewhere different for breakfast. I now wish we'd gone to one of our favourite 'greasy spoons'! The breakfast was average, taking 35 minutes to reach the table, by which time we had all finished our over priced and very poor quality drinks - tasteless coffees and weak teas. Lovely young girls serving but totally unfriendly boss lady! I have worked in this industry and customer interaction/satisfaction should be first and foremost - sadly we definitely won't be returning

I was passing through in my Campervan and discovered this little gem of a place by chance. In the middle of nowhere and starving hungry, no cash on me, I am also vegan but nothing was too much trouble for them. While they didn't have much in the way of vegan options on the menu the staff were more than happy to make me up a very nice plateful of vegan friendly grub that hit the spot. They also have a card machine which saved me having to hunt down a cash point and there was even free wifi available. The whole time I was there myself and the girls were chatting about all manner of things and it almost felt like being at home. Have saved as a fav on my satnav and will deffo pop in again. I have had lunch here a number of times now. This café is in High Easter, a small village closer to Stansted Airport than Chelmsford. It is fairly small, with less than ten tables. However, it is laid out very nicely and has a lovely, cosy feel about it.The ladies who work there are always very friendly. There is a good choice of food to eat, including cooked choice and sandwiches. The cakes are lovely.I usually have a panini which is always full! They have a nice selection of drinks, including alcohol as they are licenced. The hot drinks are also nice.Prices aren't the cheapest, but I think they are good value. I counted it as one of my five a day! Seeing the meals being eaten by other customers, I would have loved to stay for lunch as well but had other plans. The decor was bright and modern but inviting and the ambience delightful. Service was excellent with friendly and helpful staff. I had seen this cafe highly recommended in the Essex Life awards and after a lovely sunny Monday morning walk from Leaden Roding we two walkers were pleased to have half and hour in the two comfy armchairs enjoying coffee and bacon rolls. The modern well appointed café with good "light bite" menu is difficult to find and we had to ask directions. It is the last house at the east end of the village at the opposite end of the "Street" from the church. . I do hope lots of people find it and enjoy it because remote village cafes are treasures for walkers, cyclists and visitors. There is plenty of car parking.

We have some great tea shops in Essex and a local magazine suggested the snug so we thought we would give it a try.On arrival, empty cafe with two people behind the counter. We sat Down, waited....waited and then gave in and went to the counter to order. Maybe asking us what we wanted would have broken the day for them?We ordered sandwiches on wholemeal......one came on white and the other on wholemeal however at these prices I would expect fresh bread hand cut and not what seemed like it was yesterday's supermarket basic bagged bread. We asked what cakes were available only to be told only one was left as they had had cyclists in during the morning and all cakes had gone.......oh, and they hadn't had time to bake any cakes that morning!Service was 50:50 in that one person was smiling and the other seemed more concerned with sorting out her own lunch.Sorry but the are many good cafes in Essex but this one misses the mark.

We had a good time at the restaurant, nestled away from wedding festivities elsewhere on the grounds. The wait staff were both friendly and attentive. The cream tea was good and we were indulged without the usual reservations requirement which was appreciated. Our sandwiches were fresh with tasty fillings and the scones warm and generously sized. However for the price we felt the trio of desserts was incredibly basic. A real shame since the rest was so enjoyable.

Used this eatery when staying at the Premier Inn Saffron Walton a couple of years ago and there were no complaints then but things have changed. When we went to get our table at 7.30pm we were told that we weren’t being rushed but we need to get our orders in before 7.40pm or we wouldn’t be able to eat anything as the kitchen closes at 8.00pm. Once seated we were then presented with both the menu and a list, equally as long, of items that weren’t available on the menu. By this time we only had 8 minutes on the clock to decide whilst cross-checking the menu! The food itself was pretty average. After the meal we went to have one more drink in the bar. Once sat down with our drinks we were quickly told it was last orders, soon after that, around 5 minutes, all guests had to leave the bar. The England game was switched off half way through, maybe not a bad thing, and the door was practically slammed behind us as we were turfed into the lobby with the remainder of our drinks. I realise this is not the staff’s fault, they are only enforcing the rules but it all felt very rushed and stressful. Other guests were clearly annoyed by this. On the whole I think the opening hours could be handled better and something needs to be done about the lack of options, whatever the reasons, it was embarrassing.
