We had a fabulous Sunday roast here today, can’t complain about anything. The staff are friendly and welcoming and super attentive. We had two courses which was very well priced for the quality of food. One thing we would like is to bring back the scotch egg starter please.

Just great in every way, food, drink , service, Mel the owner who we just met was so lovely and friendly, possibly the best roast I’ve ever had

Went for a celebratory meal and was cheerily greeted by the landlord. The food and drink were lovely and the service was relaxed. All in all reasonably priced and will try to go again.

First visit in recent times to this pub/restaurant. Was an all round joyous and wonderful experience. An initial query via email was answered promptly and the booking system was efficient and easy to use. The staff were friendly, informative, helpful and attentive. The food was sublime for everyone in our party. Good to have lots of dietary options built into the menu. Very much enjoyed and we will be visiting again. The Sunday lunches are very popular and they recommend booking up to a week in advance!

We had a fantastic Sunday Lunch here, decent portions and well cooked. Reasonable enough prices and service was good.

A country pub surrounded by greenery, the cuisine is traditional and very tasty, we happened upon the roast on the day and it was excellent, with a very honest price. Friendly and helpful waiters. Absolutely recommended

Stopped off whilst cycling from Cambridge to Chelmsford. Just caught lunch time and had Ham Egg and Chips and a really fresh pint of beer. Magnificent

Great village pub. Free House, good real ales. Well-run, very friendly. Good food and garden too. A lovely warm fire in the winter, and plenty of seats outside for the summer.

The staff need training on how to meet & greet their diners. Took ages to get food. The camanbert cheese was fantastic. The mackerel & salmon moouse was lovely but very petite in size. The Chicken & rib combo was very poor. The chicken was tasteless. Lacked in basic seasoning and the outside was wet and not crispy. Poor quality in that dish. Took ages to get a repeat drink service. It was not busy so they cannot use that as an excuse. I would not recommend unfortunately. Back in the this was a fantastic pub/restaurant. Disappointed 😞

Lovely pub, with excellent food and beer. We were a group of walkers who'd parked in the car park for a morning walk. They did ask for our lunch time order before our walk, which worked out very well. Super village pub, well recommended 👌

the best fish and chips anywhere in essex or suffolk, the service is fast and very polite, the whole setup is just so inviting, we go with my cousin who lives just around the corner and we look foward to our trips, just love the place

We were really excited about this Sunday lunch. Food was ok. Roast mediocre, vegan option tasty but the sides were pretty bland. Service was the absolute minimum, order taken, food served. No checking if meal ok, asking if more drinks required or even offering dessert menu. After 15 mins of looking at empty plates and the table next to us being cleared despite being served after and with no acknowledgement we thought it was time to leave. Sadly won't return and wouldn't recommend.

I'm so lucky to have this as my local. Imagine being able to walk 5 minutes to a pub with a lovely friendly atmosphere and a great menu. When my family visit they always prefer their cooking to mine.

The food is consistently good. The menu is good with Chef specials most days. We always order the same dishes for mains and deserts. We leave feeling well fed and content. Prices are good and worth booking in advance as busy at weekend. I Would definitely recommend the Dirty burger, its a feast!

Went there for lunch with very dear old friend and welcome and reception and meal, marvellous. What more could be said

The most rudest staff ever . Ignored when walking in , the burger was fabulous but I wasn’t expecting the bacon in my Brie sandwich to be so hard and over crispy, then the hot water in toilet was so hot it scalded my daughter’s hand leaving welts. I approached the manageress to tell her and she just told me the water has to be hot to wash up ! (whilst walking away .) and to use the cold tap ! This is a health and safety issue that should have been addressed and not ignored whilst showing zero concern.i would never return to this pub .

This place is the in place to go , fabulous food , great staff, everyone is so welcoming, I’ve lived in henham for a short time but I’m proud to take my friends and family In for what is always a great meal 10/10

Can’t comment on the food but we had a table booked for today. We walked straight in and walked straight out. Atmosphere was awful and not greeted when entering or standing at the bar. Seemed like a “rough locals pub”

Wonderful lunch served pipping hot and all perfect. Well priced attentive waitresses service with a smile. Great menu with tasty specials. Another 10/10 visit. Definitely a hidden 💎 5 *.

Very strange behaviour served us drinks reluctantly and then locked up later left us sitting in the garden would have been helpful to let us know closing time so could use the toilets had to find others locally at a petrol station obviously did not want our custom

Decent beer but food is over priced for what it is. Avoid the lasagne as its dry and bland.

Nice pub, good atmosphere even if you are just in for a drink. One of the pints was off but it was changed without hesitation. In an absolutely beautiful spot.

Came here for a last minute Sunday lunch. Have eaten a lot of roast dinners in a lot of pubs across Essex/Herts and this was right up there with the best of them. Everything was just perfect, friendly service in a lovely charming pub. Will definitely be returning soon. Well done to the Cock Inn!! First class.

Lovely atmosphere in this traditional pub with good food options. A mishap with the dessert was quickly cleared up! Happy to go there again!

Fantastic country pub very clean and superb furnishing's had the haddock and chip's my wife said it was the best pub fish and chip's she has ever eaten and she has eaten a lot of fish and chip's. will be back

We met up with friends for a lunch here. Lots of choice on the menu for all of us and the food was great. Very pleasant staff and a good atmosphere in a picturesque spot.

The crispy skin on the chicken was simply perfect! Couldn't fault the food at all. The staff let the experience down slightly, I felt pressured to order quickly, but overall a good afternoon meal

Country pub in a delightful village with a decent sized garden. Plenty of parking at the rear, a nice place to have a modestly priced lunch.

Great drinks and beer garden to enjoy the sun. Food is a little bit pricey and menu isn’t that interesting. Simplicity is the key! Overall a nice spot for a drink when you are passing by! Very friendly staff.

Good quality food, with an imaginative selection of specials, way beyond standard pub offerings to supplement the main menu. The Cock has become our venue of choice for weekly dining out. Excellent pub, superb food.

Myself and my friends visited this lovely pub today and I had to write a review as I’ve not had amazing food like this out in a long time! Set in such a lovely corner of the village with the sun shining we sat outside, staff were lovely, would highly recommend and most certainly be back again.

Very attractive pub in pretty village setting. Don’t be put off by the fryer smells that waft out the kitchen and assail you in the car park, open the door and you are greeted by a cosy log burner and bar and friendly staff. Pick your way through the locals blocking the bar to the restaurant area which is not so nice and rather charmless but the food is v good and staff lovely.

Delicious food and great staff. Child friendly. Especially enjoyed the roast beef, and the arancini. Only suggestion would be to have more allergen information on the menu, but really nice place!

Some of the best pub food I've had in a long while. All of it was homemade on the premises (we asked and you can tell) A propa burger with a really good balance of taste with the fillings. Nice crunchy thick chips. Chicken kiev was moist and full of flavour Staff were very friendly and attentive All in all had a perfect lunchtime and will definitely be returning. If your looking for a traditional country pub with home cooked food by a hot fire with a pint then this is your place.

Called in for the first time for lunch today. We had tasty sausage sandwiches and sat out side in the lovely garden. Very welcoming friendly staff.

Good roasts. Large pasta portions. Accommodating in modifying a main course salad. Lovely setting with outdoor seating in the garden.

I am pleased to say this has become our local and how lucky we are. The food as always is great, the service fantastic. Mel and her team have got this just right, maintaining the country pub ambiance but with food that stands out from the rest. There is an excellent variety, catering for all tastes. The setting is beautiful and looking forward to going back in July. Highly recommend you visit and sample the food or even just for drinks.

Amazingly consistent great food. Imaginative menu items but also regular pub classics. Wide choice of food and drinks. Nice atmosphere and superb outdoor eating areas. Covered areas are very weather proof and comfortable.

Returned to this lovely pub after waiting too long because ofCovid lockdowns etc. They have made very good arrangements for eating 'outside' with classy covered protection from the weather and pretty efficient heating as well. So all in all, you can eat in reasonable comfort with non family-members (up to six per table) and still meet the current government guidelines. Of course if you are all famiy together you can still enjoy the extra homeliness of table service inside. One niggle was that we discovered that smoking was allowed in the covered outside area which did annoy us. However we understand that this is to change imminently with non-smoking instructions being implemented and quite rightly too, as under the new rules, virtually everyone seated outsied or in will have to be eating. (There do still appear to be a surprising number of inconsiderate smokers around!) The food was excellent and the service, considering the difficulties the staff had to cope with was very good and friendly. As before we found the fish and chips superbly cooked and served and the Friday two-for-one is a bargain. The lamb casserole was also pronounced 'delicious' as was the Real Ale and there are some other nice things on the specials and ordinary menus - I particularly liked the sound of tiger prawns in garlic. Next time perhaps!

My go to place of choice over the past few years whenever my folks come for lunch. Both of them deserve the best and through various chefs Mel has maintained a consistently high standard of food both in the choice and the quality. I have a high standard as a cook myself and recommend you come here and try it for yourself. The best of the restaurants locally at good prices and with the highest quality of food and presentation.

Lovely welcoming place and quick service.. had the friday special of battered fish twice cooked crunchy fries home made tartare sauce, peas all for £14 for two .. i shared this lovely experience with my younger brother Kyle.. all together a nice lunch in a wonderful old country pub.

We had a Christening here and we were truly looked after from the fantastic staff as soon as we stepped through the door. The food was first class the pub it self is beautiful and believe me we will be back again. Many thanks to you all for a fabulous day.

Absolutely delicious the food incredible, the service was perfect and atmosphere great. Outdoor seating was spacious and every table had an umbrella, very dog and baby friendly. Quiet setting in beautiful village. They have recently refurbished and redecorated and it looks so classy inside and outside. We will continue to keep returning :-) faultless.
