I chose to have my Birthday meal with my family here, (including my elderly barky Chi), and I couldn't be happier. Atmosphere was lovely and friendly, I even got 2 wonderful Birthday hugs from the guy who greeted and seated us, (sorry, I didn't catch his name). Food was served quickly and was delicious. We'll definitely be going again. I would highly recommend this place.

We stopped here for a meal, with our large dog, as it was about half way on our journey to Norfolk. We also stopped on the way back as we were impressed the first time round. As before, staff were friendly and welcoming, and the service was very good. The food was delicious and we really enjoyed our meal. I had the Pork Belly (previously I had Pan Fried Salmon), and my husband had Chilli Beef Wrap (previously he had Fish & Chips). Desert, both times, was Flourless Chocolate Cake, and Sorbet. It is a lovely location as we took our dog for a short walk before resuming our journey. First time we visited there was a cricket match on, the second time there was a dog show and family fun day.

We held a 60th birthday party for 40 people here last night. A beautiful country pub in a great setting. The staff were excellent and nothing was too much trouble. Buffet food was amazing and plentiful. The family used 8 of the hotel rooms which were very clean and beautifully furnished. We all had such a good time. The Sunday gravy was epic with their triple cooked chips!! Highly recommended.

Stopped here on our way from Wokingham to Blakeney in Norfolk. Easy to park at the pub which is right in front of a cricket green, and by an area where we could walk our dog. We were very pleased with the welcome that we, and our large dog, received, which set the tone for the visit. We were attended to promptly by a very cheerful waitress, who took our drinks and food order. We did not have to wait long before our meals were served - pan fried salmon and fish & chips. I can honestly say that the meals were delicious and we both really enjoyed them. We then had dessert - flourless chocolate cake and sorbet, again both delicious. We enjoyed the visit so much that we intend to call in on our return. (No photos as food smelt so good I didn't think to take any!)

This was a cute little pub with nice staff, however it wasn’t very clean for my visit. There were dead spiders in the shower and the bathroom bin hadn’t been emptied unfortunately since the previous occupant. However the food was good and breakfast was lovely. We found The Cricketers Arms through neighbours of ours who know the chef. We were staying at Stansted before an early flight the next day and were looking for an evening meal. The setting of The Cricketers Arms is idyllic, we arrived one sunny evening as the cricketers themselves were leaving the cricket green in the centre of the village and directly outside the pub. There was outside seating but we sat in the restaurant seating inside. The service was friendly and prompt. The food was great, we had fish & chips, a burger and chicken goujons from the children’s menu. We also enjoyed a delicious strawberry cheesecake with Pimms-soaked strawberries and cookie dough from the children’s menu. Note that of the other 4 parties dining at the same time, 3 of them had (well-behaved) dogs so it is very dog-friendly. All in all, it was the best meal we could have had at an easy distance from our hotel at Stansted and if we stay over again, we’ll be booking in for food!

Mum and l have visited this place a few times but just for tea and coffee as we do with a number of places. However, we wanted to eat there today, so headed out and arrived at about 4pm. On arrival, we noted they were super busy and regretfully, as we had not booked, they were unable to serve us any food, which we totally understood. For future reference, l took a look at the menue, and we really fancied the nut roast. I asked Emily, who we had been talking with, and asked if she recommended it and confirmed it was a really nice dish. I told her l regretted that we were late, but at least l knew what to have for next time. They were continually busy both at the bar and in the restaurant and were clearly under pressure as you would expect, but they were all professional, smiling, and getting on with their duties. We were just about to leave when Emily stopped us and said they had managed to make us the nut roast if we wanted it, and l am so glad we stayed to have it. The nut roast was out of this world, very tasty, presented well and in great quantity. We finished with apple crumble and blackberry with custard (would have been rude not to) and wowzer, taste, quantity, quality again top shelf. Big thanks to Amelie for looking after us, professional from start to finish, and her colleagues were great too. Thanks for looking after us. David and mum Janet Date of visit: July 2024

Overcharged with no refund. Avoid!! I stayed here with a few people back in first week of April. Stay was alright, don't expect anything more than what one should expect in a room. Problem happened when I forgot my watch there. From when they found my watch to it being posted it took around 2 weeks. They would not reply back to emails, then I would get an email from 2 different sources, very unprofessional. Like I said, don't expect much. I received two quotes on shipping the 300 gram watch to Ireland, one was 20 pounds and the other was 14.50 pounds. Each quote was from 2 different email addresses from The Cricketers arms. They didn't ship my watch until after I had sent the money and I had to ask twice in order to get a receipt. The receipt showed a charge of 9.50 pounds, with no explanation in the email. I had to email back detailing the two quotes I got and how I overpaid (I'm sure they're not too dim to realize 9.50 is not 14.50 but who knows). Once I spelled it out for them, they said in order to get a refund I have to call a specific number on Friday between 12 and 5pm. Getting my money to ship the watch was very easy, simple bank transfer. But after emailing for 2 weeks and getting overcharged, I felt like I was being strung along and they had to keep inconveniencing me just so I can get my money back. If I paid a pound less than what they wanted they wouldn't have sent the watch, but they shamefully overcharged me, had me ask twice for a receipt and have my have to call them while im at work just for 5 pounds. Do yourself a favor and look somewhere else, other places have been much more professional than this dump that obviously doesn't care about repeat customers. Side note, I emailed them mentioning I would like to get my money back or I will be detailing the problem on a Google review. No reply back, at least they're staying true to their values.

We booked a room and breakfast at the Cricketers Arms for a local wedding the next day. Because of various motorways from Kent being closed, we phoned the Cricketers to let them know we would be arriving quite late and they said that was not a problem. When we arrived we had a very warm welcome from Jacob and shown to our room which we could not fault. In the morning we were greeted by Andy, who is the manager, with a lovely welcome and asked if everything was okay. We said that we had no problems at all. Andy showed us to our table for breakfast and gave us a menu and took our order and within a short time our breakfast was served. The breakfast was one of the best we have had for a long time. On checking out we felt like a family member. We have stayed in 5*hotels and not received as warm a welcome as we received from the Cricketers Arms. Would we recommend and stay here again ...most definitely. The staff here are a credit to them. The Cricketers Arms have definitely got it right.

Very welcoming and also went out their way to help us when our little boy needed food before bedtime. Breakfast was lovely and with a very good selection. The full English I had was clearly locally sourced ingredients as the bacon/sausages were very good quality. The only downside was the coffee in a bag but to be honest I never questioned if I could get any other coffee. I was staying for a wedding so I can't comment on the location other than it seemed very quiet and rural which made it pleasantly quiet.

I went for dinner with five friends and it was frankly disappointing. Three of us had the rump steak and the other three had Miso chicken. The steak was great, no complaints, but all three people who had the chicken said it was very dry. The sevice was not brilliant, the highlight being my meal turning up five minutes after everyone elses! Given this was a Tuesday night they weren't packed so there really was no excuse for the poor service. This is the second time we have been to the Cricketers and had a disappointing experience so we probably won't go again.

This is a lovely friendly country pub in a beautiful village. We (me, my husband and my mum and our dog) stayed from good Friday until Easter Sunday for a short break away. The rooms of this pub are very large and very comfortable with everything you need. One of the rooms even had a fridge (room 4) which was very handy. Only downside of rooms are the shower rooms are pretty small and shower also small but realise there’s not much else they can do with the bathroom space. Everything very clean. We had dinner & breakfast both days. The dinner was really nice good quality food and tasty and well cooked on both nights. Breakfast also very tasty with s few different options to choose from along with the continental to choose from on a large laid out table. Andy (the owner I think) & Issy especially very friendly and helpful. Thanks for making this a lovely stay and we’ll definitely be back and cannot recommend enough.

Popped in one Sunday afternoon recently on the off-chance of some food following a long woodland walk. If nothing else, a pint and some snacks (the little one was flagging). But although booking is definitely recommended, especially on a Sunday, a table was found and cleared quickly. That was the quickest bit. After that, service throughout was a bit slow, overall, and it was quite a wait to order and for the food to materialise (and drinks, and dessert, and bill... in the end we went up to the bar to pay) but the food was excellent. A roast, a burger and a kids' fish and chips, with drinks, set us back just over £80. The Sunday menu (mainly roasts) is a little limited, but I'd be keen to come back for the full menu. There is a great kids' menu, too (cricket-themed, obviously, so the crossword and puzzles might be a bit tricky if you're not into that particular sport!). Good selection of drinks at the bar, with some very decent wines. Many tables outside by the Green in this little hamlet. The toilets were decent (though a little small). We'll definitely be back. (There are also rooms, and they apparently offer a stay-and-park deal for Stansted airport, but it's not something we're likely to try).

The room as well the main restaurant was spotless, we had dogs with us and they accommodated us with a room near the exit door to allow us to sort dogs out without making too much noise. My husband and I pulled into this pub for lunch yesterday afternoon en route to Kings Lynn, ravished as we had only travelled a distance of 35 miles in 2 1/2 hours following an accident on the M11. We arrived at approx 2pm and placed an order for their Beef Wellington platter to share priced at £59, which included glazed carrots, dauphinoise potatoes, roast onions, long stem broccoli, red cabbage and a red wine jus. At around 2.45pm I enquired how long our meal would be and was advised that they were plating the meal up. Shortly after a gentleman, who may have been the owner/manager, arrived at our table with 2 warmed plates. He apologised for the delay and offered us a further tea/coffee free of charge while we were waiting. My husband accepted his offer though I declined and suggested to him that we should have been advised of the wait for our meal when we first placed the order. He accepted this and apologised again. The meal arrived shortly after and to say it was disappointing would be an understatement. The beef Wellington was cut in half and the beef was red raw. The vegetables were lukewarm. We were served one large carrot cut in half, which was hardly cooked as was the broccoli. There was one small cooked onion and the potatoes were certainly a version of dauphinoise that I had never been served before. Equally though I didn't get round to pouring the jus on my meal I cannot confirm whether it was a red wine jus or just a small jug of ordinary gravy. The proprietor did check whether we were happy and I returned my meal as I couldn't even cut the meat with my knife, while my husband asked for a steak knife and did actually eat the beef, the half carrot and the potatoes. As I needed something to eat I noticed a party arriving after us had been presented with a "Fish Friday" placard offering 2 meals for £28 and said to the proprietor that we would have both ordered that had we known it was on the menu. I subsequently ordered that for myself and similarly the meal was very mediocre. The fish was fine though the batter was very greasy and I think the very small serving of chips that accompanied the fish and mushy peas must have been triple cooked probably 3 or 4 times as they were rock hard and I actually only ate probably 3 or 4 of the portion of 8 chips served. I was loathe to write this review as my policy is usually only to review very good experiences and service though I do recall that I have made one other very poor review. My main reason for writing this review in such depth is that I was shocked to find that we had been charged £29.50 (exactly half of the cost of the beef Wellington meal) for the part that my husband actually ate though it was evident that the very small serving of broccoli and red cabbage still remained in the service dish and I was charged £17 for a VERY SMALL badly cooked version of the "£28 for 2" Fish Friday meal - though to their credit they did "compensate" us by not charging for the 3 teas we had. I did want to go back and question the cost but as we had another 2 hour drive ahead of us my husband asked me not to bother as it would only extend our bad experience. Exceptionally bad customer goodwill and as you would expect we will not be returning there.

Enjoyed a lunch there today. It's clear that they're getting a lot right in the kitchen. Some cleverly constructed fairly sophisticated dishes in among the usual stuff. We loved the duck starter - smoked duck that tasted smoked and the "bon-bons" with a sprinkling of pistachio and a sympathetic dressing. Roasts are always a risky thing to order in a pub, but the pork was superb and consisted of a large and juicy chop. Succulent ond not too fatty - the only thing I'd criticise is a slightly heavey hand with the salt (and I'm assuming it's not a ploy to sell more beer!). Oh, also, the chips are of the stringy variety - would be fantastic if there was an option for chunky. A lovely place for a sunny (and not too windy) day. Definitely a place we'll come back to. Will have to check out "the other" Cricketing pub in Clavering soon.

Called into my local for a couple of drinks, big mistake! Was able to get a table for two after a bit of faffing about then sat there for over 15 minutes and had to go to the the reception desk before someone would come to serve us. Made the drinks order then waited 10 minutes before the drinks arrived. Unable to get served when we had finished the drinks so had to got to the reception and order again. Another wait until the drinks arrived so paid the bill then and left. Still compered with the wait the table next to us had (25 minutes for a drink) it may not have been that bad? Lucky I was not really thirsty!

Booked a table mid December for lunchtime Christmas Eve. I was offered the table by the fire although the Booker pointed out it was a little low for food. I confirmed this was not a problem and booked this table. Turned on time for our booking, ready for some Christmas champagne and some food. The table though empty was not available to us as it was apparently reserved for someone an hour later. Another member of staff came over to try to help and advised us that specific tables cannot be booked. When I relayed my booking conversation, he confirmed we couldn’t sit there as it was booked for three pm and had been for several weeks. Allegedly my conversation when booking did not take place. We left. Came home and enjoyed a glass plus food by our own fire. Used the pub regularly over the last 20 years. Never again. Fortunately there are others better in local villlages such as Arkesden and Brent Pelham

Such a shame, we booked the cricketers Arms for 6 of us for one of the outside tables so we could meet up with another household and still meet the guidelines. We knew it would be cold so wrapped up in all our layers. But also had seen they gave you blankets and there were heat lights and a fire! When we arrived we did have a heat lamp above our table so 2 of our guests were lovely and warm, later on I then asked for blankets which we were given 2, which wasn't great considering there was 6 of us! We also noticed the fire wasnt lit, we asked if this could be done but the waitress said all staff were busy so this couldn't be done, the table behind us also asked for it to be lit which they promised them it would be lit within the next half an hour, again this didn't happen. The service was very slow, but we didn't mind too much as we appreciated they were busy. It took about 15 minutes for anyone to take a drink order, we then had starters, and then ordered a main this took 1 hour an 40 to arrive. Again we weren't going to complain about the wait as the food was delicious, but we were freezing and it did take longer than we expected! They then didn't seem in any rush to take away our plates. But when they came over to clear up they told us we only had 5 minutes left before they needed our table. We had read online that they were 2 hour sittings, but with the service being so slow it really wasn't out fault we were still there and really wanted a desert. We asked to speak to the manager who offered to give us take away desert but this really wasn't what we wanted and declined as the point of us coming out for dinner was to enjoy with family. We also said to the manager about the wait we had had for food and he told us he would check the times out as he didn't think we were correct. We also mentioned the fire was promised to be lit and hadn't been done, he did apologise for this. We also mentioned that the 3 tables around us were all here before us and weren't being asked to leave? He said he would also check this. We thought everyone had a 2 hour slot so didn't seem fair that we were the last to our table yet were being asked to leave. The manager then left and came back with the bill and had deducted the drinks as a good will gesture, we accepted this and got everything out ready to pay. While we were waiting for the waitress she went round to the other tables asking them if they wanted desert, me and the rest of my table were really put out about this as we were told we couldn't have deserts and had to leave within 5 minutes. A member of our table said to the waitress how come they are allowed deserts and not being asked to leave (admittedly this was done in a stern voice as we were getting annoyed by this point) the next thing we know the manager comes back said he has written of the whole bill and we need to leave immediately as we shouted at a member of his staff. This didn't go down well, and whilst leaving we said we look forward to writing a review to which the manager turned around and swore at us.This whole experience was such a shame as the food was delicious and we would definitely of recommended and wanted to of returned. The manager just didn't handle things like a manager should've and should never or sworn at customers. Admittedly we were getting annoyed with the process and things were said at the heat of the moment which perhaps shouldn't of. But had this been settled like it should've been this would never of happened. The manager also never made a comment about the timings of our food which he said he would check (we know exact times as we had made sure we knew what time we got out food out of curiosity of how long it had taken) he also never made comment on why the other tables were allowed longer sittings and allowed to have deserts. We understand the 2 hour rule but you can't have it for one table and not the others.Really disappointed to of had to or written this review as like I said the food was delicious and it was meant to be a lovely way to spend time with family in a safe environment.

We went for a weekday lunch and had booked a table. On the plus side the food was lovely. On the other hand the options for vegetarians at lunch were a bit limited and service so slow it was tortuous. All enjoyment was taken away as the stressed waitresses tried and failed to keep up with the trade. It took us forty minutes from first receiving an incorrect bill - to managing to obtain a correct one and succeeding in paying it. Even after the Government supported Eat out discount the price paid was not worth the stress.

Four of us dined at The Cricketers Arms for a celebratory dinner. Situated on a charming village green, it's in a perfect location. The service was exemplary; staff were knowledgeable about the menu, friendly and professional - Julie hit just the right note! The food was as good as we've had in any 'pub'; all 3 courses each of us had were beautifully prepared, seasoned and presented. We had the watermelon salad - light, tasty and refreshing. Fresh sardines were a special option: simply prepared to showcase the natural flavour, with a drzzle of oil, absolutely delicious. The coronation chicken terrine was beautifully presented and very tastyBeef nuggets were good but overshadowed by the other starters.Mains included the cod, very fresh and perfectly cooked with delicious accompaniments. Two of us had the sirloin steak; very tender, tasty and well-seasoned. The chips were beautifully crisp on the outside, soft on the inside - dangerously delicious as we ate the lot. Slow cooked pork was a special, again perfectly seasoned, cooked and rested. Honeyed carrots were delicious, delicately flavoured as was the broccoli side dish. Desserts included the peach meringue, and white chocolate options; both were perfect, not too sweet but full of flavour. As we're 'foodies', eating in a pub can often be disappointing, however the chef obviously has very high standards, as our food was significantly better than standard pub fayre. We're delighted to have found this pub, and whilst it's not local, will definitely be back. Would thoroughly recommend the Cricketers Arms!!

For the fifth time this year had an excellent meal at the Thatchers. The food was superb, the 5 serving girls professional, smiling and charming (also pretty but not sure if I am allowed to say that) They all seem to like each other and this shows in their dimeanor. All very attentive and continually circulating to ensure guests are happy. (We are) Great atmosphere in the pub , no music, polite and pleasant customers. Think I spoke to the mangeress/landlady on the way out and she was as charming and friendly as all the other staff. If there is a better pub within 30 miles I would love to know where it is. Will unquestionably go back and recommend to all my family and friends. Remarkably just as good at lunctimes!
