The King's Arms Public House in Uttlesford

Despite there being no-one in the pub on arrival (12:30 on a Thursday) we put our faith in the online Google reviews. So glad we did. We both had scampi & chips which came quickly and was a generous portion, beautifully presented with peas a salad garnish. Only down side was that there was no vinegar & the plates were very cold. (Food was very hot though) Highly recommended.

Brilliant pub just off the market square in Saffron Walden. Excellent place to check out some proper live music at the weekend. Superbly kept real ales that have been recognised by CAMRA and Cask Marque for many years. A roaring fire greets you in the winter months. I haven't eaten here before as I don't visit during food service times, but I thoroughly enjoy and recommend this town treasure.

Wow , great find after walking out of another establishment, such a friendly greeting as we walked in the door, so refreshing to be welcomed like that, , excellent food , beer and massive shout out to the lovely lady who served us, highly recommend

Good place to drink a beer, the waitress is told you in every moment what happened or if she needs to up stairs to the kitchen.

The Kings Arms is the best pub in Saffron Walden. Beautiful historic building on Market Hill. Landlord Ashley along with Page will make you feel so welcome. On a chilly day or evening you can enjoy two fireplaces. The bar food is also delicious along with the wonderful selection of hand pulled beers!

This pub could be so much better. The bar staff couldn't be bothered tbh. It's a great place, just needs some nurturing.

Visited for a pre arranged family function. We have a nut allergy vegan in our party and they really looked after her food wise. Arranged food especially for her and kept it back so it didn't get eaten by others! Thank you.

Really enjoyed a leisurely lunchtime visit to this old Saffron Walden pub. It wasn't busy when we were there but it must be a popular place judging from the excellent range of beers and pub grub menu. I had a half pounder burger 🍔 which was so delicious that I sent my congratulations to the chef for producing the best burger that I remember eating! Well worth a visit and located just off the market place.

To be clear, this is the type of pub that this country is famous for. Great real ales and premium lagers enough wines to meet most requirements. The lunchtime food is what I want from a pub, honest and hearty and won't leave you hungry. When my wife and I first moved to this town we found the pub regulars were very welcoming and always more than willing to join you in the big debate of the day. Ash looks after his customers and beer with equal aplomb.

Really nice old fashioned pub. Saw a band, The Mod Cons, in their back room - great fun! Very nice bar staff too. Great place!

Myself and my wife popped in with a couple of friends after having a walk around the market. Lovely fire going, good selection of very nice real ales and a fabulous selection of different gins and tonics. Been before and will definitely be going again. Also worth noting they show the Six Nations games.

A little boozer just off the market square. It's quite small, so feels busy even when there's not all that many punters in. The burgers were decent enough, and there's a good selection of drinks. Bar staff seemed a bit confused, but service was ok. We didn't try the beer garden on account of the weather, but it's great that they have one! Don't expect the Ritz but it's not a bad old pub at all.

Great local pub in the heart of the town

Superb "back street" pub with an excellent choice of well kept ale, craft ale and lagers. Staff are great, too! Not eaten there but never heard a complaint. There's often great music in a back room on weekend nights.

This is a pub. They do food during the day. And a pub the other times. That isn't a derogatory remark. The landlord, I assume, Ash, may seem odd, but is purely watching his bar as a landlord should. It is a diverse place where you get locals drinking, a book club that Ash caters for and just a friendly traditional pub. If only there were more of these. Well done.

Well worth updating my review for 2022 as Ashley now offering the warm and friendly service I always wanted here. A good selection of ales with well managed and prompt bar service. Always seems to be somewhere to sit (with a decent outdoor area in good weather). Better decorated than it once was and slowly becoming the proper, central, Saffron Walden public house you expect from a medieval market town.

Absolutely cracking local battle cruiser

Lovely pub, only pop in occasionally lunch times when I’m in the area and it’s just got a proper friendly quiet pub feel. Ales always superb, sat there once with a fantastic pint from the Tring Brewery I think it was, just me and another fella there both reading and just the sound of the clock ticking away in the background. That day was over 10 years ago but it still one of the most memorable pints I’ve had lol. Great place....

Interesting Selection of real ales

I like this old coaching Inn. It oozes character and is quintessentially an old English pub. I stayed in one of the original upstairs rooms facing the busy A120 just a few metres away. It was a warm night and the windows needed to be open. Fortunately I am a good sleeper as the traffic roaring past at all hours is like a motorway and excessively load. They have recently added some very nice, modern, ground floor apartments to the side of the Inn. Hopefully I'll get one of these when next I stay. Great food, excellent cider from the bar and a delicious breakfast. Friendly people who own it and man the bar.

Great lunch. Ham was running low but the quality of everything else made up for it. Paige was a fantastic host and looked after us excellently. Will certainly be back to try some other selections from the menu.

This is a lovely family run pub with a great local clientele. The beer is excellent, the staff friendly and there's usually a bit of lively banter going on.

Local pub and everyone's friendly (but you don't feel out of place if you're new or anything), great atmosphere, and Ash (owner/bar-tender) is lovely. In terms of alcohol, there are some great bitters; that's my preference so I don't know about the rest of the alcohol selection. Traditional decor, cosy, great place all around

I’ve been in the Kings Arms several times over the last few years, and have restrained myself from reviewing it previously because I didn’t really have anything good to say and other people seem to like it. But it’s time! From the outside the pub looks quite promising. It’s just off the market square, so very central in town. Ideal for a quick drink or lunch? Let’s go inside.... First thing that hits you is the smell of stale beer, like it’s been spilt on the carpet. The furniture looks like it’s come from eight different pubs. The whole place doesn’t look like it’s had a clean in years. The bar staff seem surprised when you ask for a drink. It’s not terrible, but it’s just a real let down compared to the OEG or the 8 Bells. I’m guessing that the food must be ok, otherwise the reviews here are utterly baffling

First visit. Great pint of Shropshire Gold & large pinot after a couple of hours shopping. Snug, cosy bar with lovely atmosphere!

Popped in for a couple of Gin and Tonics before dinner. It is a really friendly pub with live music on Fridays and Saturdays. Revisited after dinner to hear the band. Very good and well worth a visit.

We stopped in to the Kings Arms on a Sunday afternoon because we thought it looked nice from the outside. When we got on the inside we realised we were right! The staff were very welcoming and I had a delicious pint of Lancaster Bomber beer in a fabulous looking glass which I commended to the landlord Ashley. Definite recommend stopping in here for a drink if you get the chance.

Not much to say when we only popped in for a couple of beers, but the place was lively early evening and the staff and locals were fun and enjoying themselves. A nice place to call in.

Quaint pub on the main street of Saffron Walden. Good bar lunch choices. More imaginative than the usual. Friendly service. Music at the weekend. Perhaps a bit of updating needed but then it has plenty of charm.

Came for the music night with 2 other friends, and bought us a round of drinks. We were having a great time up until I returned to the bar to bring my glasses back only to be pulled aside and shouted at by the lady who owned it saying that 'you need to leave right now if you aren't even going to bother buying drinks in my pub'. After explaining I'd just bought a round of drinks only half an hour ago, she continued by saying that I was lying because my hands were 'bloody empty'and that she would kick me out if I didn't buy something else that second. I'm absolutely appalled by the way I was spoken to, and it completely ruined what had been a very enjoyable night - there are much more pleasant pubs in town, DO NOT GO HERE.

From the outside this appeared to be a very ordinary town pub and, indeed, in many ways, it was. However, the service was good, the food was good, and the bill was very reasonable. We had to move tables because the one we sat at was very sticky. Our host tried to clean it but rather unsuccessfully! The new table was fine! My wife's requirement for gluten-free food was understood and carefully checked. This was not exactly a "fine dining" experience, but, if you want a decent pub meal at a good price, this place is as good as any.

Called for a light lunch on a shopping trip here. Very busy at the time of our visit and nice atmosphere. We had the home made tomato basil and cheese soup which was delicious. The service was prompt efficient and friendly.

Friendly old fashioned pub. Also cater for outside groups on certain weekday evenings. On Thursday evenings you can even hear music from a local folk band in the bar area.

As English pubs go, this Kings Arms (how many Kings Arms are ther in England??) is average. Lovely staff. Doesnt have the sense of community that most English pubs exude, probably because it is on the tourist track, along the town walk in the prettiest Mediaeval-plus town in the country.

This place is well located, very lively, interior is traditional and pretty cozy. I was happy with my choice to dine here, however I didn't had much time so I wished they would have taken my order sooner. But the waitress was lovely and the food was REALLY good (English brunch), I didn't manage to eat it all, huge portion. No wi-fi though...

Visited The Kings Arms yesterday for a lunch after a five mile walk around the lovely historic town of Saffron Walden and Audley end park. There were fourteen of us in our rambling group and they managed to fit us all in to the back dining room. Ashly and his team looked after us very well, the food is reasonably priced, varied traditional pub grub with also some roasts on offer as it was a Sunday. This is a old style traditional pub popular with local drinkers, diners and the many tourists that visit the area. They also at times host local bands playing live music.
