We went on a 50% offer, however at full price it would still be very reasonable.
Freshly cooked, staff very friendly and attentive.
Lovely clean and inviting establishment.
Overall great experience and would recommend to others as well as revisiting.
Vegan options too (vegan battered sausages were a winner for me)
Efficient and friendly service. Tasty and clean tasting food. Reasonably priced. Great vegetarian. options! Fabulous quintessentially English tea room. Very good job for table of 8. Would definitely go again.
The food and service was good.
Police and Friendly staff accommodated our request to sit outside.
Unfortunately the building itself requires urgent attention.
Lots of mouldy surfaces in several areas, needs a deep clean.
Amazing place to stay, price tells you what you get, shame you don't get fresh mints per day and biscuits but good restaurant and bar, quality facilities, very comfy large beds and great pillows, it's one of the best sleeps ive had, the bath was large enough for me which is extremely rare being 6ft 5, nice large modern tv, fridge and many other good parts which add to the room
Had a delivery yesterday normally really nice food from here but last nights was terrible. The portion size of the large was terrible only fed two kids two of the battared sausages ordered came plain , the fish bites were tiny hardly any fish in them when they are only £1 cheaper than a whole fish that’s not right and Fish cake was over cooked. Disappointed because normally it’s nice here but that’s the first time I’ve had it delivered might stick to collection so I can check the food before I leave
Excellent olde worlde pub with amazing Italian style food.
Pizzas were excellent using some local products but would have preferred more used
Slightly expensive but overall a great place and food..
Holidaying nearby, I booked a table for Sunday lunch, the two of us plus our sprocker spaniel, Herbie. We arrived 30 minutes early but it was no problem and we were warmly welcomed and seated.
The Star Inn is what I’d call a proper old-fashioned pub. Catering mainly for locals, it was doing a roaring trade during our visit. The customers were friendly and the servers were lovely - one jolly lady in a glittery Santa hat was particularly taken by ‘the little ‘un’, our admittedly adorable pup Herbie, and had several interactions, feeding him a couple of doggy treats AND bringing him a bag of little biscuits to take away.
We ordered traditional roasts - beef for me and a beef and turkey mix for my husband. The lady who took our order asked if we’d like horseradish and cranberry sauce (yes please and no thank you) and brought this to the table BEFORE the food arrived - thank you, thank you, thank you! I’ve never understood why most establishments wait until they’ve delivered your food to ask whether you want any condiments then disappear for five minutes to fetch them.
The food was delicious, the horseradish hot enough to blow your socks off, and the portions were very generous - my husband couldn’t manage all his meat (lightweight!) but it was wrapped up to take away. (After a quick rinse at home to remove any gravy and horseradish, Herbie thought Christmas had come early when he had half for his breakfast this morning!) Although we had very little room left after our mains, we somehow managed to share a treacle sponge pudding and custard, which was equally delicious.
A really enjoyable experience made even better by the warmth of the welcome and the fact that the pub is truly dog-friendly. We’ll definitely be back when we’re nearby again in the spring.
Stopped in whilst walking and it was a great decision. So friendly and cake/coffee were the best I’ve had in days. Everything looked and tasted home made
Coming on Mother’s Day for lunch, we expected it to be more crowded and when we came, it wasn’t crowded at all! They supplied us with Ferrero Roche chocolates. The atmosphere was incredible as a singer came here and had a wonderful voice so it was very nice. The roast dinner was AMAZING. When we had dessert me and someone else got the chocolate fudge cake but instead of cream we asked for ice cream. It was an amazing cake and we also got some strawberry’s and blueberry’s and lotus biscoff crumbs. The staff were fantastically friendly and quick. Overall this is the most impressive restaurant experience I’ve ever had.
We came for the afternoon tea and it was incredible. Tasted delicious and a lovely variety of food. One of the best afternoon teas around at a nice reasonable price. Hoping for another excuse for me to book again soon .
