Italia Nostra in Norwich

Lovely Italian restaurant close to the centre of Norwich. The food was delicious and the service good. The chicken in a mushroom sauce was great, as was the melanzane. The profiteroles were gorgeous.

Went on Wednesday for a pre theatre meal and discovered a hidden gem. Intimate, family run restaurant, very welcoming attentive service. A lovely menu made it difficult to choose so we ended up sharing our dishes, which were beautifully presented and delicious to eat. We will certainly be returning and recommending to our friends and family. Thank you both for a lovely evening.

Lovely pre theatre meal for two. Stater & mains were really good & the bottle of montepulciano was delicious! It wasn’t overly busy but guests were placed in different areas so we didn’t have to talk quietly. there was also background music playing so the atmosphere didn’t feel flat. I would definitely return & would recommend.

Booked as never been here before and enjoy Italian food, had previously eaten at other Italians in the city but will definitely come Back here. Really nice atmosphere and the food is lovely, fresh and the sauce I had on the chicken was amazing. Not a morsel of Food left on anyone’s plates so that tells its own story, thank you Italia Nostra.

Thirty years ago when we lived in Norwich, we used to go to a lovely Italian restaurant named Marco's. Marco has since retired and the restaurant closed, however, Italian Nostra is a worthy replacement. Wonderful, intimate dining experience.

One of the best Italian restaurant I've been to in Norwich. The couple who own the place are Italian themselves, and it shows in the authentic tasting food. The menu range is huge with a great vegetarian selection, as well as plenty of drink offerings. The atmosphere is very classy, and the service is always so inviting. I've been here many times with my partner, and with friends/family, and Italia Nostra never disappoint! Highly recommend

Had a beautiful meal here yesterday evening before going to the Theatre. I had the Lasagna, my mum had the Cannelloni and her friend had a Penne pasta dish. We shared garlic bread with cheese as a starter. This was probably the best homemade Italian meal I have ever had. Absolutely beautiful. Atmosphere was lovely, quiet but vibrant. We enjoyed a bottle of house white with our meal, which was also very nice. The only downside is that I live in Yorkshire and was only in Norfolk visiting family for the week. We all said we will definitely be returning aswell as leaving glowing reviews. Next time I am in Norwich, I will be returning. Thank you to all staff for a lovely meal.

After reading positive reviews, I booked a table at this restaurant with my partner. On arrival, we found it mostly empty, a state that persisted throughout the evening. The décor featured Venice-themed pictures, yet the chairs appeared incongruous, reminiscent of those from a Chinese restaurant. This was jarring, as I expected an authentic Italian ambiance to complement the homemade food ethos. The service was pleasant; however, the menu was predominantly pasta and rice dishes, with limited meat options and no fish (only one uninviting soup in the menu) which was surprising for a restaurant claiming to specialise in Northern Italian cuisine. The pricing was exorbitant, notably £19.95 for a basic chicken dish without sides, and £16.95 for a saffron risotto that was disappointingly soupy and overcooked. The quality of food was average, best case scenario frozen, worst from the cheapest seller they could find, certainly not justifying the high prices. The bread, priced at £5.25, seemed excessive, especially as it was an additional charge. The antipasto misto appetizer, at £10.95, offered one slice for each type of ham in total, personally I found that annoying as we were in 2 (positive note, they cut in half a couple of the salame/prosciutto sliced, the others weren’t). In summary, the cost of the meal was unreasonably high, and even at half price, I would not return. As an Italian, I found the cuisine unrepresentative and of disappointingly low quality. My advice is to heed the one-star reviews, as they often reveal the true nature of a dining experience. I strongly recommend against dining here.

Amazing homemade Italian food. Always have a great meal here.

Stopped in for date night on a freezing december evening. The restaurant was cosy and warm and you're met with the smell of amazing Italian food. The lady who welcomed us had such a calm nature about her. Her service was amazing and she made sure we had everything we needed. I noticed she was the only server yet did not seem overwhelmed, and managed to serve all the customers efficiently. We both ordered a carbonara, which was excellent. The icing on the cake was when the server brought us over extra parmesan to sprinkle over our dish. A really nice touch. Overall an excellent experience. A real gem of a restaurant. Thank you for a lovely meal. We will be back.

Terrible from start to finish. As a starter, ordered the prawns which came on a bed of mushrooms lost in arrabiata sauce with some stale warmed up bread. My partner had a bowl of mushrooms which was disappointing as he expected something a bit different as one of their specials. Could have cooked these at home! As for the mains, let’s not even go there. Chopped up veal, yet again a kilo of mushrooms and all swimming in sauce…. The veal was tough…If that wasn’t enough, you had to pay extra for overcooked veg and some potatoes. Overheated restaurant so after all those mushrooms and sauces, you felt you needed to rush out for some cold air. Service was functional at best. You can get a lot better for a lot less. Or if you choose to spend that amount, I can think of lots of restaurants with excellent reputations that wouldn’t disappoint in the same way.

Awful from start to finish... bruscetta was just some chopped tomatoes on a dry piece of bread with a tiny slither of mazzarella, and my partner's pasta dish had only 5 tiny pieces of chicken in and absolutely zero flavour. To top it all off though, when the waitress informed me that her shellfish allergy would not be a problem, they clearly contaminated it as she was sick and had a swollen throat within 10 minutes of leaving. Shocking..

Had the most amazing food. We had 3 risottos, aubergine bake, chicken and mushroom pasta, and chicken with red peppers. The food was freshly cooked and extremely tasty. Our waitress was friendly and efficient. Lovely meal with lovely friends 💕

Booked here for my birthday. Ive got to say we were disapointed. The food was Bland . There were no sides included/ not even Bread which charged over £5 for a couple of slices of a Baquet. Usually Italian restaurants offered little dishes of Olives or oil but everything had a charge. So basically everything you ordered you only got that. They knew it was my birthday. Sadly was not impressed

Excellent lasagna, and fresh seafood in the pasta we ordered. Really enjoyed our wine & everything was pretty reasonably priced.

Very obliging when my taxi didn't come and I was almost half an hour late. Sadly restaurant was almost empty - can't understand why as lovely atmosphere, good service and, although a little salty for my taste, great food.

What a gem this place is. By far the best Italian food we have ever eaten...ever! It was quiet in the restaurant which was good for us as we could talk freely. Food was piping hot and a good size. Its a shame its not local to me in Milton Keynes.

Booked this for early evening meal at 1730....should have been worried as no one else appeared before we left an hour and a half later. Starters were a bowl of hot mushrooms with no taste which were supposed to be cooked in butter,garlic , parsley..the special prawn starter had 4 frozen King prawns on sauce with mushrooms and the home made bread was a slice from a loaf...the mains were a bit better but not particularly special ...very disappointed. The council seriously need to look at toilets with electrical cables and the above flats electrical supplies all exposed in the toilets...very worrying. Would not recommend...

We were visiting Norwich for a break and noticed this restaurant. A Cosy restaurant with Italian paintings. I had a chicken prosciutto in pesto sauce which was delicious. Followed by tiramisu which ended the meal perfectly. The service was excellent and the food freshly cooked and delivered hot to the table. A real find. Will definitely return

2nd time eating here with a 7 year gap in between. The email asking for a table was responded to quickly and we managed to get a reservation easily. The pasta was well cooked and we had cheesey garlic bread as well. The place was nicely busy as there were a few groups enjoying their evening at the same time and we had plenty of time between courses for digestion. We finished the meal with handmade tiramisu which was very good and a generous portion. We don't live in the city but would eat here if we visit again.

What a gem this restaurant is,set in a Georgian building in the heart of Norwich.The restauraunt is small and cosy,clean and well decorated.The food was really nice,all cooked from scratch and very tasty.The tasty food was complimented by a lovely bottle of wine.On top of the good food and wine was the nice and polite service and the excellent value for money.Two three course meals with a bottle of white wine was seventy-five pounds.

Our first visit to this restaurant. We enjoyed the fact that it was small, creating a very comfortable atmosphere. The main courses are mixture of pasta, meats and vegetarian options plus daily specials. We opted for chicken breast, one cooked in a white sauce and the other in tomato. Both were delicious. The house white was quite acceptable. We finished by sharing a tirimasou followed by coffee. A thoroughly enjoyable experience, will definitely eathere again.

Fantastic Italian meal, but so wanted more atmosphere and experience to take home and give this place 5-stars. Our maitrê-d' was extremely polite, left us to enjoy our meal, but some Italian restaurants put so much more theatre into the event to entertain. Thank you and certainly, we will be back.

Quite nice...proper italian food but perhaps being midweek made it a bit quiet, and not much atmosphere. I would just like to say that my review of Italia Nostra from 3 weeks ago posted a 5 star rating. The paragraph above is from 2 years ago!! My wife and I had a really nice evening with the most fantastic Italian food....as good as we have had in all our travels throughout Italy. So a big grazie mille.

Four us went for dinner and our opinions differed. Whilst our risottos were OK, the starters were not impressive. My fresh mushrrooms and prawns consisted of chopped button mushrooms and three prawns ona tiny slice of bread and a pile of greens; my friend wanted for his main course, escalope of veal and a plate of plain spaghetti, which, somewhat unbelievably, they could not provide plain spaghetti, so he had teh spghatti with veal dish which had small pieces of veal which he said were tough, so he was not pleased = it seemed strange that for a place that serves spaghetti dishes, presumably made fresh, they cannot provide a plate of plain spaghetti, and why chop up the veal into small pieces so it's lost in the sauce? I don't eat veal myself but I could see he was not enjoying it. My seafood rispotto had just one prawn in it. On the whole I would rate this as average for the price and we probably won't be going again.

I went to Italia Nostra with my sister last night. We both thought the choice on the menu was brilliant and included lots of dishes we want to come back and try. The service was great and the food was absolutely delicious, as was the wine! I had the fish soup which was to die for and my sister said the tiramisu was the best she'd had. The vibe in the restaurant is chilled too, great for chatting at a normal volume and perfect if you're looking for somewhere to go on a date or if you've got family visiting Norwich and want to take them somewhere different.

Really enjoyed this place, food was lovely. Went on a Tue night, arrived 7pm. Service was good but then got busier and think it was then a tad understaffed (probably understandable for Tue night) At the end of meal I was going to order a liquer with ice but no one came to table so didn't bother in the end, just paid bill. Glass of white wine for £6.95 I thought was a bit expensive and tiramisu dessert for £6.50 odd could've been slightly bigger but overall very enjoyable and would visit again

Going out for a nice meal on a Monday night in Norwich can be a bit tricky, most places are having a well-deserved night off and there's usually not enough business to make it worth paying the staff plus all the running costs etc. Lucky...

Waited for this second visit before reviewing. Wanted to see if the genuinely fresh approach to everything that arrived at table was consistent and not just first-time diners luck. Yep, just as good second time around. Authentic Italian food across the board - our table all chose different dishes. Attentive service at just the right level. There should always be a 'but'; menu a tad pricey in parts. But won't let that get in the way of visit number three in the future.
