Top quality fish and chips. Checked out the other menu items over the years and they are brilliant too but I’m hooked on large cod ! People who run this are a lovely family and go the extra mile on service and to make you happy no matter how busy it gets (and it’s good so sometimes very busy). Thanks and back soon.

We ordered a large takeaway via deliveroo fir the entire family. Absolutely gutted. Be warned this Is NOT a fish and chip shop as you know it. The food wasn’t horrible but the chips were NOT chip shop chips so be warned. If you want to feel like you cooked it all in your oven at home fine, but I could have had McCain oven chips for that. Not inedible but they went in the bin for us and reordered with a proper chip shop.

The best fish and chips we have had and great value. How come your fish in Essex is so much bigger than our fish in Sussex? Obviously saying that the fish served up in our local fish shops and restaurants are small compared to those we had tonight. Thank you

Chips were dry and hard. More like pub food than a chip shop. Also was charged extra to sit in the empty shop

The fish was great, but the chips were like French fries or kebab shop chips. Not soft and floppy, but hard and crispy so this is not a traditional fish and chip shop as it displays. Very disappointing that they can’t get these basics right

Best fish and chips (including gluten free) for miles, and always friendly service. Worth phoning ahead on busy days like Friday!

It's set up as a fast food take-out. But honestly: It's also nice to sit and dine there. And chat with the owner, e.g.. It has 2 doors: One from St. Thomas Rd. and one from Moore's Pl.. Choose whichever you prefer. They are producing among the best Fish&Chips in all of GB. Not kidding. The cook has all the experience anyone can have concerning fish, obviously. This is worth mentioning and something to write home about. And then, in all the rising prices and inflation mayhem, it's not even expensive. Fish (be it cod bites, which are a dish of its own, be it cod or haddock) is fried to the very point of neither being mushy nor dry nor unbaked, just 100% perfect and then in this crispy, crunchy crust with so much flavour of its own. The fish itself is very fresh and has more flavour than I expected, very nutty, lovely. Chips are thick Flamish style and live off a very crispy exterior and soft interior with very potatoey aroma. I think, they're made Belgian style with 2 different frying processes at different temperatures. Lavish process, but the result is worth it. They have some of the rarest lemonades to choose from, as well. Something to contemplate instead of beer. I do, every time. Worth it. Caveat: Extremely popular spot, waiting times can be a bit longer. And: Dining in, you have to live with a stream of clients going through. Still: Hungry? In the area? This is the place to go. Outrageous value for money. Recommendation to the owner: Get some real vinegar in addition to the sauce you offer. That is the expectation when you come to GB. Yes, almost everywhere else, vinegar on chips is considered yuck. Tell someone from the Mediterranean that they should put vinegar on their French Fries: You risk to be fried, yourself. But in Britain, this just has to be. I love it.

The fish and chips are one of the best around, always hot and most times freshly cooked. I can recommend their food and the staff are always very friendly and helpful.

Having requested the food to be here between a certain time, it arrived 10 - 20 earlier than requested. I called the restaurant and they rectified this with delivering new food at the time requested. Appreciate them sorting this out with no problem. Thoroughly enjoyable cod and chips which was fresh and tasty. Thank you. Will definitely be ordering from you again.

Got asked if I want them open or wrapped, asked for open and was then told after he put vinegar on the chips I was asked if I want vinegar, which I wasn’t. Had to wait for more to cook, and still they was not cooked all the way through and ended up in the bin! took a good 15 min just to get a battered sausage and some chips , portions are tiny and overall they was rude and gave a bad atmosphere. Go elsewhere don’t waste money here they make fake profiles to give good reviews!

Haddock was a bit watery, cod was nice, chips were nice. Would have preferred a crusty roll rather than a bap Table was a bit sticky’s and there were a quiet a few flies floating around ,a little off putting.

Fantastic gluten free rock in batter with chips. Tartare sauce too, and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Even swapped the vinegar for a gluten free one.

My first time coming in here I've been meaning to come here it looked a nice fish n chip shop I'm pleased they do fish fingers on the menu the food was cooked fresh and looks nice and clean inside l come here again

Amazing service outstanding food. Family run and you feel part of the family when you go! Welcomed into their home kitchen. They put their hart into what they do and it showes! Had a craving for fish and chips and popped down. It's on Brentwood high street and there is parking outside for 30 mins. The inside has decent space, a few tables and appears very clean. I can't comment much on environment because I ordered food for takeaway. There was a table of three elderly ladies (pensioner age). If the you have a table of Brit grandmas in a Fish and Chip shop, you know there's a high chance it will be good... I didn't ask if the store is under new ownership but I think it might be as the chap behind the counter was more sociable and warm then the couple who were there during the pandemic - maybe I caught them on a bad day. Anyway, I ordered 2x small cod and chips and the food was fantastic. It cost about £10 per person. Often Fish and Chips is really to serve a craving and the food is over greasy and disappointing, after eating you get this guilty hollow feeling. This wasn't the case here. The fish was tasty, a decent size and didn't smell. The chips had great texture and was not oil soaked. Even my partner who hates greasy food enjoyed her lunch. Btw, the home made tartare sauce was probably the best I have tried! Definitely a repeat visit.

Food was nice, but frustrated I had to pay an additional £2 for gluten free batter. This is the first time I had ever paid a surcharge and as I can't eat standard batter i have no choice but to pay it.. so lost a star!

Lovely little Fish n Chip Shop, eat in or Takeaway. Does all the usual stuff you'd expect from a chippy but done in a better way and the fish is cooked to order, so like some plaices you'll have a little wait if it's busy. It's one of my go to plaices when I'm in Brentwood.

We have been coming here for months every Friday evening and eating in. The food and staff are amazing . We come 20 miles for this fish n chips and would not go anywhere else. The haddock and cod is always perfect and chips the best . Thank you

I have been coming here for 3 years and the fish has been lovely. Sadly the quality has started to decline. Chip's haven't been fresh and the fish has been sitting on the hotplate too long. I ordered a skate wing a few days ago which had hardly any fish on it. Thinking it was a one off I ordered again tonight. Sadly the skate wing was small with hardly any fish and crusty from sitting in the hotplate. The Chip's were old and and dry. For the price you should be serving one large piece of fish or two small ones. Please go back to your old standards

I got told to never walk down alleyways at night but I prefer convenience and a gentleman who works there walked out and asked me if I want food. Hell yeah I do cause my credit card got blocked when someone transferred me £700! They gave me free food and lots of it tonight as they are closed the next day which is Halloween. I've ordered deliveroos from here a few times as well. I gave some to my mate (neighbor) and her kid cause too tired to eat 15 sausages and all the other stuffs and the only thing I wasn't given was fish lols. Thank you!

Not our usual option for a fish & chip shop (I tend to find the better the place looks the less likely I'm going to like their wares). However I was very impressed with The Fish House- the portions were nice and big, the fish was great, honestly the worst thing I can say is it's not as good value for money as our normal places (but definitely still up there).

We've bought takeaway here for years and it has always been great. Last night we got fish and chips for four of us. Unfortunaly, it was dry and probably overcooked (though it was quite a thick portion so this might be part of the reason). Some of the chips were also over cooked. We probably only ate half of it. We will give them another try but at £28 we would expect better than this.

I used to frequent the fish house a few years ago when I worked nearby and had good memories of the food there. Upon a revisit with my fiancée I am glad to say it didn't disappoint. Great chips, great Cod, Haddock and the best tartare sauce. If in the area, or nearby definately worth a look. Warning, big portions!

Best fish and chips in the area. Worth every penny you pay. I went off fish and chips years ago, but this is the one place I’ll make an exception for. Highest recommendation as you will not be disappointed.

I go out of my way to visit The Fish House for the best GF fish and chips I have ever tasted. I travel from Epping at least a couple of times a month and have never been disappointed. Excellent!!

Very nice sit-in fish and chip restaurant. Decent range of fried goods. Extremely pleasant staff that are very friendly. Been about half dozen times and I wouldn't go anywhere else in Brentwood for my cod.

I do like a fish'n'chipper with seating - a sign of advanced civilsation I always say. Jnfortuneately in Virus World we can't sit - not in at least although a church bench did beckon once meals were purchased. A pity because the chips were excellent, my saveloy was a suitable saveloy, service was friendly and the place clean and tidy.One to return to in better times methinks.

Me and my nan go here every time I get a chance to visit, the skate is beautiful and the staff are amazing

I hate giving such a negative review but was completely disappointed in my take-away skate and chips this evening. The batter was burnt to a crisp in places and extremely soggy in others. And the chips could probably done with a few more minutes in the fryer. Am unlikely to order take-away again. Perhaps eating-in is the better option!

Very good. Friendly ,Very Clean, Just off the High Street down St Thomas Road on the left. Food is always good and mostly cooked fresh for you. we travel from Romford, just for the fish and chips and have made meany visits.

Ordered via Deliveroo from The Fish House in Brentwood and ordered 2 peri peri chicken meals.What I received I wouldn’t feed to my dog.Chicken was unseasoned and certainly not peri peri and was also undercooked and pink inside.I had to complain to Deliveroo to get a refund and threw both meals in the bin. Never Again would I eat from this place even if it was FREE.Avoid unless you like undercooked pink dried old chicken **No response from owner on here regarding this issue-Strange as thought you would have responsed and given an explanation as to why I received chicken of such poor quality**
