Food always tastes fresh, and is good value for money. It's the go-to place for fish, and the shish kebabs are good quality and tasty, although the chili sauce is more tomato than anything else - still very nice. Salad is however heavily over salted. The staff are very nice and easy to talk to. Good parking when I've been there

Great take away, really lovely shish kebabs, lots of meat and quality salad, only reason I’ve knocked off a star is the burgers aren’t the best! But for quality kebabs, service, and value for money, you can’t go wrong here!!

Huge portions, but although the batter was crispy the actual fish a bit mushy and the chips were just a soggy undercooked mess. Disappointing as had heard good things about this place.

Stopped here on a Sunday for fish and chips . Very few places in Chelmsford area open on Sunday . Ordered 3 x medium cod and chips .all cooked fresh to order and to perfection. Also very generous portion size . Served in boxes which is nice with lemon . Very polite staff and immaculate shop. Will become our go to place for fish chips dinners now

Got served by some young kid.. Must of been about 13. Pretty sure I saw him take a chip out the bag before he gave them to me. Chips were cold and soggy and the fish tasted like pork… Very strange. I tried to give my chips to a seagull and even they wouldn’t eat them.

I love this chip shop They are brilliant I’m a bit of a chippy man and these guys do a great chip. And the fish is even just as good. Curry sauce is ok. Well done boys.

One of my favourite fish & chip shops in Essex. The staff are polite, friendly and care about their customers. The scampi is the best I've had in a while. I have no complaints about anything I've ordered and eaten so far, well worth the money in my opinion. Keep up the good work guys! 👍

Fantastic value kebabs and tasty fish n chips! Perfect for soaking up a bit of booze! As you would expect from a fish n chips shop that also does kebabs, food is served in typical paper or polystyrene but it's a great place for a takeaway.

The staff are polite and friendly. They make the salads how we want them with no problems. We often get a take away from here and have done since it opened. We have learnt that portion sizes are LARGE. Our go to meal tends to be the special mixed kebab 2 for 2 people and a large portion of chips. This feeds 3 hungary adults and there is normally left overs. Food is very tasty. It costs us under twenty pounds for our meal and have never had a problem with the food. Just thinking about it is making my mouth water.

Usually a group of about 8-10 of us order from here.Excellent food, quick and always complete orders... (how do they always get everything ready in 15/20 mins?)All the kebabs are cooked well and portions plentiful.The fish is always fresh and cooked nicely with a nice crispy batter.Chips are the best around!Always a good meal and the family/friends love it every time.No credit card facilities but there is a cash point across the road (in co-op) so never been a problem for us

Found this by accident as we were driving home from Gatwick after a long flight delay. Needed fast food. The fish and chips here are the best I have found in the local area. I am fussy about fish and I can only compare this favourably with fish and chips from Yorkshire which is the best I have ever eaten. Good prices, quick service and polite staff.

Partner ordered our meal over the phone and went to collect. Wasn’t until at the table serving out dinner that noticed steak and kidney pie wasn’t cold and totally uncooked . Rang through they knew they had given out uncooked pies and offered a replacement- no courtesy meal another time or petrol so now I’m eating alone as meal spoilt and rest of family already eaten Pic of replacement

The BEST fish I've had in Essex!!! Thick fish with perfectly crispy batter!!!!

Have eaten here on several ocassions. The fried food is pretty good however the shop excell with their kebab selection. One of the mix kebabs is enough to feed a hungry man and then some. A large one fed me and the Mrs with leftover. The meat is beautifully cooked and I would recommend making the journey for a decent takeaway. It's not the cheapest takeaway in the world but I don't mind paying a bit more for a decent portion of well cooked food

Go here quite often for a local take away - can - re-order but always seem to cook it when you get there - so upside is food is always fresh. Good range of dishes e.g. Kebabs, Chicken, Pies, Fish etc. - fish a bit limited - could offer skate. Staff are friendly - the major negative is that there is always a wait even for chips.

Someone here needs training in running a High Street Fish and Kebab shop.Why stay open until 11pm when you turn the cooking machines off at 10.15?I want freshly cooked fish, chips, kebabs and doners and not 'Here is one I made earlier', how much earlier? You don't know and more importantly, i don't know.Hot cabinets are designed to be used for a few minutes while you get the whole order together not to keep old bits warm.Come on chaps find a Manager who knows what he is doing rather than working round his social life

Chips were dry and looked like they had been sitting there all day.....service was poor, no eye contact and speaking to others when serving.

Mixture of food sold ... to me the preference is not Fish at all.

Closes at 11 PM yet turn off the grills at 10:15 so all you can have is cold chips...

On their menu they do a family kebab, you will need a big family to eat all of it in one night. I have never seen so much meat and salad! Delicious!!!

This is probably our nearest take away fish and chip shop and is undoubtedly the best in Ongar. The food is always freshly cooked and tastes delicious. However, If I am being critical, the the fact you either have to order in advance ( the advantage of that often being negated by the amount of people in the queue) or wait for service is somewhat annoying, additionally the fact you cannot pay by credit/debit card is completely annoying in this day and age and until they change this, I will invariably choose to eat at their competitor from the convenience point if view.

Quality fish and chips, chicken wings and kebabs +++AAA delivers city quality in a village setting, enjoy what is on offer. my tip is to pre-order by phone and collect in person, sadly no delivery.

Vivimos a la vuelta de la esquina de este chips y siempre han pescado y patatas fritas, así que decidí probar un kebab en su lugar para un cambio. Yo probé el pollo shish y mi novio tuvo el cordero doner. Sólo tuvimos que esperar unos 10 minutos para que esté listo, se lo llevó a casa y tengo que decir que es uno de los mejores pinchos que he tenido en mucho tiempo. La carne era suave como doner fue el pollo, las porciones eran enormes y la ensalada estaba muy sabroso, ambos disfrutamos mucho con nuestro porción de patatas fritas, que era una porción enorme. Sin duda pedir aquellos de nuevo porque el precio era muy razonable. Buen trabajo chicos que son muy amables, recomiendo encarecidamente.

This is our local. Our family come from Chelmsford and South Woodham Ferrers to have the chicken and lamb shish which is delicious- all cooked fresh. Staff extremely pleasant and helpful.

having lived in the village 40 years, the anchor is a welcome addition for serving good fish and chips. always cooked to order so you have to wait, but well worth it. staff seem to come and go, but always helpful and friendly. average wait about 10 minutes

My fiancé and her friend unfortunately were involved in an accident when a guy pulled out on them just outside of this chip shop. The staff were very helpful and friendly and made sure they and my baby daughter were ok. There kind nature is a sure sign that they care about there food aswell as others.

Absolutely outstanding fish and chips, not to mention chicken kebabs. Normally somewhere does either fish and chips well or kebabs well, but this place does both. They're really friendly too.

If you want good quality fish & chips at a very reasonable price this is the place for you. The fish is very fresh & white & the batter is lovely & crispy & golden & the chips are beautifully cooked too, well worth a visit.

We have the chicken shish and lamb shish kebabs. The meat is tender, juicy and well-flavoured. The salad is great. It's surprisingly healthy for such a satisfying meal. Can't comment on the chips.They are always friendly, and their waiting-time estimates are accurate. (Nowadays, we ring ahead)

Good fish and chips, and good fried chicken. Did not try the doner kebab but others have spoken highly.

The kebabs are generally good now that they have introduced salad.Unfortunately the chips like it's predecessor are very average at best. It's a shame as it is as easy as good quality fat and potatoes... too scared to try the fish. stick to kebabs and you'll be ok as they are tasty.

Anchor Fish & Chip Shop serves up huge pieces of fish which were quite tasty - the batter was good, too! You definitely get your money's worth here.
