We popped in for a drink on our wedding day between the ceremony and reception and it was one of our favourite parts of the day. They accommodated a large booking at short notice for our family to have Sunday lunch the following day and couldn’t do enough for us. The food was great and the staff and owners just lovely. We’ll certainly be back!

Rustic historic pub in the centre of Melton Mowbray, drinks priced reasonably and a lovely beer garden for when the weather is nice. Staff are friendly too, great atmosphere in the winter (very cosy and homely). Highly recommend if you're visiting Melton Mowbray and want to enjoy a nice drink in a traditional pub

As visitors from Oxford we left the choice of venue to our 92-year-old host. She got it it spot on. There was no trouble parking in the huge car park of an ancient building with all the nooks & crannies, beams & uneven flooring anyone could hope for. A good old village pub full of atmosphere and original features. My eye was immediately taken by the row of four hand-pumps at the bar (taps for the modern beers were on the other leg of the compact 90º serving area) covering a range of Marston's ale;. Breakspears' Oxford, Wainwright's Lake & Courage Directors included, so a hard choice. Mine was a well-kept pint (curse drink driving laws ). We ordered food at the table from a good choice, although just the haloumi burger or curry for the veggies. Being a quiet Tuesday lunchtime it came relatively quickly and all at once. Served politely and attentitively it was a sight to behold: generous portions, well-cooked and delicious. Only one of us managed to clear our plates due to the amount stacked on them. Sadly, no room for desserts. The prices were very reasonable too and that made for a good value meal. Very satisfying all round. Next time we'll have to come for beer and desserts in the sunny garden. It's good to see that an ancient village establishment can retain its character while becoming a genuine gastropub.

Took my 91-year-old father for Sunday roast, and it was excellent. I had the beef, and my husband and father had chicken. The vegetables were cooked to perfection, the yorkshire pudding was yummy 😁 and all three plates were cleared, and we were all happy and full. The staff were wonderful and attentive and looked after us very well. I'm really looking forward to booking again 😀

I’ve visited The Royal Oak quite a few times, and it never fails to impress. The food, service, and atmosphere are consistently fabulous. Every visit is brilliant. I brought my family for Sunday lunch today, and we had an absolutely wonderful experience. Pat and Bini, the owners, are incredibly welcoming, which makes the experience even more special. I absolutely love this pub and can’t recommend it highly enough. A huge thank you to the entire team at the Royal Oak!

Amazing service, Provided good explanation of which things are where, very polite. Food was a little cold but nothing to bad. The atmosphere was nice but all there really was was chairs and tables nothing special. But I would highly recommend visiting this place for a quick snack of drink. P.S: It's a little overpriced you can get a SM box of chips for 2.30 which isn't ideal. And a single can of Soda is 1.30 so depends what you want really

Another wonderful lunch for my Dad’s birthday - thank you to everyone involved. This is a family owned and run place and those that aren’t family act like they are (Colin!) they all care they go the extra mile they want you to have a good experience and love the place like they do and come back - it shows in spades from the moment you step inside no I’m wrong from the moment you ring to book. Go try it you won’t be disappointed the food is great (family cooked on the premises no boil in the bag here) the real ales are award winning the building is full of character but the people make it.

The place looks good and it nice inside with entertainment but the food is not good at all we had two chicken wraps and baguette melts that were not melted or warm they were cold and also we had a even bigger breakfast with hashbrowns, sausage and bacon is cooked enough and my personal self had a mixed gril the gammon was bland with no taste and the chicken was stone cold and steak wasn't too bad but disappointed is a understatement and the service was poor we tried to get servers attention twice and was blanked and it just felt depressing it wasn't nice so this why I give this a 2 star this is a genuine review it isn't good for food.

Writing a negative review is a rare thing in my family but we had a really unpleasant experience here today. We were really looking forward to a meal here after hearing recommendations from other folk staying at our campsite. We phoned to check for availability and to check if it was dog-friendly. A friendly voice at the other end of the phone confirmed both and asked for our details, inviting us to head over. We made the 20 minute drive from where we were at the time and found the pub in a beautiful setting. However, upon entering, we weren’t acknowledged in any way but made our way to where we thought the restaurant part was. We waited there close to the bar. There were a couple of staff behind the bar busy serving customers but nobody to speak to or to show us to a table. We waited for 5 minutes, feeling a bit like spare parts, until I joined the queue at the bar to ask a female member of staff if we could have a table for 3. She asked if she could get us drinks which we ordered but were left hovering at the bar waiting with no indication of where to sit. Once we were given drinks, I asked a passing male member of staff in an apron whether we could sit at a nearby table. He said rather dismissively, “Er, yeah, as long as you sit this side” indicating the hard floor area, glancing at the dog. There was no “Certainly, I’ll fetch you some menus” niceties or anything like that. We sat with our drinks and some menus were ‘plonked’ on the table after a while. We were left to look at them for a long time without anyone coming to check if we were ready to order. A female member of staff sat at a nearby desk with her back to us. There didn’t appear to be anyone in charge of waiting tables. We decided to finish our drinks and leave. Even then, my husband had to wait a good while at the bar to pay for them, leaving my Mum and I standing waiting. No one asked why we were leaving or appeared to notice or care. We noticed as we left that there appeared to be a function underway in a separate building. Perhaps this left a lack of staff seeing to the ordinary customer. I feel that if this was the case, we shouldn’t have been ‘invited’ when phoning ahead! A thoroughly disappointing experience and a waste of time. It was meant to be a lovely ending to our holiday. We didn’t actually eat anything at the pub but we were all left with a bitter taste in our mouths.
