We were actually here for a Wake. I have been here several times and found it to be a very friendly little pub. The staff had put together a reasonably versatile buffet for the Wake, too much white bread, but that's personal choice. The lemon drizzle cake was outstanding. I was pleased that the barmaid suggested that the surplus food should be taken to the bar to be shared rather than wasted.

We visited the Old Forge this morning for the first time and we weren't disappointed. We were greeted by Lola the dog who made our own little dog very welcome. The outside seating area was extremely pleasant and well kept with a charming brook and weeping willow setting the scene. Our breakfast of bacon and egg sandwiches served on toasted granary bread was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. Our hosts were lovely and offered advice on some dog walking routes in the area which we went on to enjoy. We will definitely be visiting again. Thank you very much, Jayne, Dean and Rexi x

Called in here today for take away food, and while i waited in the very long queue i looked around at the place and it was filthy, the lights were covered in dust and spiders webs, the same as the fan above the door and the aircon, they were thick dust and fluff on them, god knows what its like behind the scenes, the toilet was very dirty too,it had months worth of grime in it and toilet paper thrown all over the floor and toilet system. The whole place needs closing down for a deep clean.

The service was exceptional. We wanted some choices that were not on the menu and the chefs adapted their dishes to accommodate our vegetarian choices. The flavours were delightful and the range of textures made eating the food very appealing. I will definitely be returning and would certainly recommend their menu, food and wonderful service to anyone living in or around Bottesford. Regards Paul and Eithne

Lovely food served by people who obviously enjoyed their work. Good management and friendly staff. Great range of desserts which we will try next time.

Finally a local pizzeria that serves an authentic Italian pizza. The Calzones were really tasty too. Staff were really friendly and patient with our energetic young kids. Will definitely be back.

We visited Melton for the Tuesday market and decided to pop in here for a drink and biscuits whilst we were there. No offer of help to take the drinks to our table despite it being perfectly evident we are "less mobile". Bloke with a big unhygienic beard handling food and drinks. Abruptly told by his oppo to "sit down and I'll shout when it's ready". Toilets basic and not that clean and customers, and people walking in off the street to use them, left the door open a few times after using it. Too idle to slide it shut ! Not pleasant when it opens straight into the cafe. Quite a simple process to close it - slides in the opposite direction to opening it. We visit Melton three or four times a year but will give this place a miss when we return.

We always visit this pub when staying at a local holiday site and since refurbishment food here has always been good. Unfortunately on this occassion they let themselves down and this was a disappointing visit. This post is to give constructive feedback. I ordered the chicken and chorizo kebab, wife had lasagne with a side portion of fries. Chorizo on my kebab was inedible and both portions of fries arrived luke warm and half way through the meal were cold. Rest of kebab was fine. No-one came to check if meals were ok, had they have done so, we would have fed back on the night. We'll put it down as an off-night and will return but as it wasn't that busy it should be used for feedback.

I felt it was quite an awkward place. You have to book in advance for afternoon tea when in reality it was dry, cheap bread with probably aldi ham in the middle and dry cakes. Upon arrival the owner was leaning over the counter playing on her phone. No customer service. Once the food was placed in front of us I noticed that a hair was in one of the scones. She then replaced it with a small shop bought one. The other scone was very hard and dry. The cups were dirty and we had no spoons. The milk was a little off as if it had been sat on the table all day. Overall not a great experience. I think the whole afternoon tea was chucked together onto a cake stand, put on top of sticky tables, costing a couple of quid but charging people so much more. The whole experience was very awkward and it didn't feel very welcoming in there at all which is sad because it's not the service you would expect from a small local coffee shop. Costa provides a better experience!

The customer service was questionable, felt like the girl was inconvenienced by my request. The “naan” bread was more like a fajita than a naan. However, the kebab meat was delicious and generous and the sauce was fantastic so take that as you will. If you are drunk and just want a generous meal then this is the place.
