Flying Childers in Melton

An impromptu visit and the pub was pretty empty. The waitress tried to sit us on top of other diners which I thought was a bit odd considering there were lots of free tables. Then they parked another family really close we could barely get out. We have children so prefer to be out the way a bit. Pretty average service, had to look for staff. The food was quick but mediocre and for what we had was well overpriced. We won’t be visiting again.

Our party of 7 had a fantastic Christmas Day dinner food was excellent and the service was excellent too starter mains and pudding were very well presented and of good quality we have been having Christmas Day dinner out for many years and we all said this was the best so far Thankyou flying Childers !

We arrived to a fairly empty pub and were told our table wasn’t ready so we had to hang around in the bar area until it was. In hindsight that should have rang alarm bells in an empty pub. Also no draught or cask ales ! We had paid a deposit as requested as we were eating from the festive menu but there were no festive menus on the table so that meant a trip to the bar to collect them. Food was nothing special but not that bad. I asked the waiter if we could order drinks once he finished clearing the starters and he forgot so 10 minutes later another trip to the bar. Almost 40 minutes between starter and main and when I mentioned how poor the service had been all I got was a ‘we are just plating it up now’. Got the bill and they did not take into account the discount and then knocked of 10% for our experience which I think they must be doing quite a bit. The replies on here saying they are working on improving service puzzle me as it is apparent this is a long standing problem. Lovely surroundings but everything else is a real disappointment

The service was superb, the staff are all so friendly and helpful not only that the food was delicious to and came out looking beautiful , I would definitely recommend and I will 100% be returning again

We were celebrating our 37th anniversary and my birthday, after looking for a place to go we decided on the flying childers which looked nice according to their website, we both had the sirloin steak which was the worse steak I've ever had, luckily our dog was with us and ate most of it, I will not be visiting this place again, maybe there sandwiches are ok.

We always visit this pub when staying at a local holiday site and since refurbishment food here has always been good. Unfortunately on this occassion they let themselves down and this was a disappointing visit. This post is to give constructive feedback. I ordered the chicken and chorizo kebab, wife had lasagne with a side portion of fries. Chorizo on my kebab was inedible and both portions of fries arrived luke warm and half way through the meal were cold. Rest of kebab was fine. No-one came to check if meals were ok, had they have done so, we would have fed back on the night. We'll put it down as an off-night and will return but as it wasn't that busy it should be used for feedback.

Great little pub. Brilliant food and good choice of beer too. The staff are really friendly and genuinely care that you are content. Will find a reason to go back!

A pleasant spot, pleasant atmosphere but 'set' lunch was poor: fried chicken overcooked to a leathery consistency, crumble undercooked/not thoroughly heated through, water requested for table didn't happen. On the plus side, the loos were clean, NO intrusive muzak! dog and child friendly (albeit we had neither!) Car park not huge, not spectacularly well-signed, our sat-nav although properly programmed sent us to the other end of the village.

I came out for dinner with my family this evening and it exceeded all expectations, the food was beautiful, the service was speedy and my server was so friendly and helpful - I would definitely recommend

Had an evening meal at Flying Childers a main and a dessert. Food was amazing very promptly served hot and looked fantastic. Staff service was brilliant friendly polite chatty, they were excellent at delivering the food and checking if we needed any extras like drinks and condiments etc. A very comfortable pleasant clean environment, would recommend a visit.

Was travelling North and stopped in Melton Mowbray for a break. I found this place and decided to stay for dinner. The restaurant has various offers and deals and as a result II must have driven the very patient Lilly to distraction with my dithering over placing an order for dinner. Chicken & Mushroom Pie with a pint for £14.75 was my eventual choice and when it arrived it exceeded my expectations. Loads of flavour and runner beans and carrots full of flavour and an extra pot of gravy to finish it off. I would very much recommend this as a great place for good food and value for money. My casting vote for exceptional customer service and supreme patience goes to the delightful Lilly who served us ⭐️

Went for meal sat in corner they placed another couple near us when most of pub was empty no social distancing we went out side did mention our concern too member of staff

This place is a lovely family and dog friendly restaurant. I came here with 2 of my friends on Thursday we were greeted with warm smiles we didn't have a reservations but that wasn't a problem, our waitress maddie was lovely and asked us if there were any dietary requirements and if we would like any drinks to start. They came very quickly, maddie then asked if we were ready for food or needed a few minutes to think which we did, she then popped back in 5 when we were ready. The food was great shout out to the chefs, we were checked on by maddie throughout our dine to see if there was anything else we needed. over all experience was great will definitely be coming back and i highly recommend.

Called here for lunch on a very hot day. It was nice and cool indoors although there was plenty of outdoor seating with parasols available. Good variety of meals on the menu and our food came quickly. Staff were very pleasant although all seemed to have disappeared when I wanted to pay - don't worry, I waited, I didn't do a runner!

Lovely Sunday Lunch. We sat out in the garden with the kids and our dog. Food was presented well and served nice and hot. Good value for money.

Stopped off for a bite to eat en route to Ragdale Hall. Didn’t know what to expect but it set the tone for rest of our trip. Food excellent and staff very friendly. Lovely pub, will be making it a regular stop off point.

We pre-booked a table which was ready for us when we arrived. We were thankful that it wasn't near the singer on the night as the tables nearer him would have been too loud. Our server for the evening was friendly and helpful and came to get our drinks order quickly. She returned to take our food order quickly too. The food arrived hot and well presented. It was well-cooked and tasty. The space between the courses was perfect and made for a relaxing evening.

This was the second time this year that we celebrated a family birthday at the Flying Childers. With a party of 20 we made sure to preorder the meals and the staff were really good being organised and helpful. Meals were brought out promptly which I know can be difficult with a lot of people and we all enjoyed our food. Staff couldn't do enough for us especially Paula but the other staff were lovely too. We also felt relaxed with taking a toddler and baby . We love the Childers and would recommend going to anyone. Thank you so making our evening a lovely one!

Fantastic food as well as a relaxed atmosphere. Served by Finley, who was new, but eager and friendly. Under the guidance of Paula I'm sure he will do well. Good evening had by all.

Paula was a wonderful waitress she was helpful and attentive and friendly to our children. We would highly recommend this restaurant. The food was too a high standard.

Went to The Childers for Lunch.. Bridget was oyr Server, she was very Friendly. Food was lovely, we had a rib eye steak.. perfectly cooked.. all accompanying items were well cooked.. ceasar salad was lovely.. and we also had the tikka masala and starters, all again very nice.. would recommend..

Beautiful restaurant. Staff were super friendly and nothing was too much for our waitress Paula. She checked back on us a few times through the meal and was so courteous. Menus are so inclusive, definitely something for everyone even the fussy eater in out group. Food was delicious and presented well Pub was immaculately clean and I was impressed with the upgrades done since my last visit to the area. I would even go as far as to say it would be worth the drive out to visit again to sample the other meals that took my fancy lol. Thoroughly enjoyed the lovely relaxed environment and home beautiful cooked food

we are regular customers at the flying Childers, but this was the first occasion bringing family members who have multiple food intolerances and who were very nervous about dining out. We cannot commend Paula our waitress enough she was fantastic and nothing was to much, she was happy to answer all the questions and the level of detail in regards to the possibility of any food cross contaminations was above and beyond any we have experienced else where. she re cleaned the areas where my Aunt and sister were seated and provided new cutlery, something that has never been done at any other establishment. we cannot thank Paula and her colleagues enough for making our evening a stress free and enjoyable one.

A great experience… It's a popular restaurant in Kirby Bellars. The food is delicious, the service is excellent, and the atmosphere is cozy. I highly recommend trying their signature dishes. You won't be disappointed! Enjoy your meal!

Travelling through and decided to pop into the pub for dinner, I have had the pleasure of dining in many places but the service from Paula and Alana tonight was simply some of the best I have ever experienced, you ladies are an asset to the pub! Me and my partner came here last night for the first time for an anniversary meal and we were not disappointed!
