Restoring the building to its former glory and offering a lovely tranquil setting and delicious food from their new amazing in house chef that befits this beautiful historic building and grounds.

We arrived for a special meal after traveling from Leicester with 6 other members of our family to celebrate our wedding anniversary, as we had our wedding reception at Scalford Hall 15 years ago. Upon arrival, there was no one to be found apart from some maintenance staff. They informed us that there was no water so they were closed. There was no communication to inform us of this, and we emailed them multiple times after this to find out what went on, with no response whatsoever. What a horrendous way to treat your customers. Extremely disappointed.

Not really a review in that we were booked in early October to attend a relatives wedding. Was really looking forward to our stay, smart hotel! This week we get a call to tell me our booking has been cancelled. When I ask why, I’m told the hotel is closed for the rest of the year as it has been contracted to the Home Office. When I queried this, the inference was that it may be used to accommodate migrants. Never going to consider booking this hotel again. I appreciate in these times the hotel probably needs the revenue, but I think customer service sucks as no alternatives were even suggested.

Very friendly staff. Lovely country house which was ideal for our purposes. Dog friendly room on ground floor with quick access to the garden. Wet room type bathroom very useful for muddy paws. The person in the room next to us was noisy the night before and kept us awake coughing and snoring. The staff kindly changed our room for the second night and it was lovely and quiet. Having stayed in similar places I wasn't sure what to expect, especially for the very reasonable price I paid, but I was not disappointed at all. The front of house welcome was both warm and very safety focused, the staff were all amazing, special mention to Mick the night manager who went out of his way to buy Melton Mowbray Pork pies for me when I mentioned that I wanted to take some back for the kids but wouldn't have time, absolutely above and beyond the call of duty. I was upgraded to the bridal suite which was nothing short of amazing, the refurbishment in all areas was well designed and never lost that feeling of being in a grand stately home. The bathroom and bath were huge and even had it's own TV. The breakfast was superb, locally sourced sausages and bacon to die for. All in all I could not recommend it highly enough, it's outstanding in every way and I cannot wait to return, thanks Amanda and team.

A beautiful place in a beautiful location but in dire need of some money being spent on the drive. 4WD owners need not worry though! Unfortunately, the weather wasn't very good during our visit for a family meal and the restaurant was empty. The food was excellent though but a 'small' serving was not. If you want small portions you have to ask for a child's sized meal. We will be going back there though in April for my Sister-in-Law's birthday but forewarned is forearmed re portion sizes!

Absolutely beautiful place, we stayed in one of the suites, overlooking the beautiful countryside, the breakfast selection was brilliant, we where greeted by a wonderful hostess, she made myself and my partner feel so welcome, nothing was to much trouble. We also met the chef, she was absolutely wonderful, our dinner was delicious. I honestly can't say that I have stayed at a more peaceful and beautiful place. They are doing the place up at the moment so I would advise those writing negative reviews to be mindful of that. We stayed for two nights and on both evenings we where treated fantastically. I have stayed at a number of hotels, across the country as myself and my partner travel for business and pleasure. We will be returning with our children, and also to take a break from the hustle and bustle of city living. Thank you so much scalford Hotel. You where wonderful.

This lovely Edwardian building is ideal as a hotel, having hosted the rich and famous during its days as a hunting lodge. It is well known both King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson were regular guests. The tree lined drive leads to both the hotel and the nearby care home of the same name. Though not aware at the time of my visit, I understand it has recently been rescued from administration. Very good news for the staff, who I found friendly and helpful, except, more later. A downside, there being no lift, so check your room location if you have a mobility issue. Our room was light and airey and overlooked the courtyard. The bathroom was not large, but certainly not claustrophobic. Toiletries were provided as too were complimentary tea/coffee. Plus a TV & free wifi. I attended with 46 other guests for a celebration dinner, which brings me to the brickbats. It was a relatively simple three course meal, no problem with starter or dessert. Both were tasty. The main was a let down, a piece of salmon placed on a very small serving of mashed potato, separated by one kale leaf. The staff only carrying two meals at a time, why no tray? They did not always serve from the correct side and often reached across the table, instead of walking round. The meal overall took far longer than it should have done. Breakfast was fixed rate of £10.00. If you enjoyed a full english with toast/coffee etc, perhaps a fare price. Not for a bowl of cereal plus drinks. There was no fresh fruit either, or choice of coffees, no latte etc or decaff. Definitely worth three stars, but with bit of extra effort would have been four.

Classic place — you feel like you’re staying at the local squire’s hall, located between two charming little villages and featuring mile-high ceilings above overstuffed leather club chairs and couches grouped around fireplaces (it was warm when we were there so no fires but we saw stacks of wood in a giant antique trunk). They’ve just undergone a management change and I gather we were some of the first to stay since the handover. The decor is eclectic — country hall with modern metropolitan touches in the rooms, like funky accent walls and pillows. Definitely ask about afternoon high tea — so fun.

The main bar has an open fire and serves food we had the fish n chips (between us) as the portions were quite big, not a complaint but a compliment and the food was lovely well worth the money. Our second night, we ate in the main restaurant from the a la carte menu, I thought the menu was pretentious to be honest it was fantastic, I would certainly be visiting again. Was disappointed with the service we received. Being a disabled person I had to leave my wheelchair in the car and use my sticks as the car park was unsuitable, and what disabled spaces there were had been taken by non disabled patrons. The room where we had our meal was very tight and the tables were compactly fitted next to each other, most certainly no room for a wheelchair or someone using sticks. On top of this the bar was constantly a queue which stretched around the room, to get a drink would take at least 30 minutes so our table ended up with tap water. Certainly wouldn't recommend.

This place is so so bad i would not recommend a stay here at all. I was so let down this is what i emailed to them after getting a email asking if i enjoyed my stay.....Thankyou for your email regarding my stay...i only wish that you put as mush effort into the issues i has on the night. Having to sit in my room with my partner eating a takeaway because your dinning service was so bad and unorganised was just not on. the shower in our room was nice and hot but we could not use it as the water did not drain away. The next morning we went for breakfast and that was just as bad. The food was horrible and tasteless and as for the staff they were just plain rude to me and my wife when i had to ask for a knife and fork and she asked for some orange juice i was spoken to like a child. this was supposed to be a nice romantic treat for my partner but was just a big let down right from the start. the stay with you was nothing like your web site makes Scalford Hall out to be. When i checked out i told the lady on the desk about our concerns and it was like it felt like the norm for her...no apology or any concern at all. If this was me i would have had the manager out and a full refund would have been given but after reading his replies to some reviews which i chose to ignore on the internet which all of them i might add was rated bad and people giving all bad reviews i am sure the management do not even care. I feel ripped off and let down and would have rather stayed at a Premier Inn as the service and food are so much better. I wont ever stay again and will also be leaving a review on google myself seen as no attempt was made to apologize or fix any issues we had. I spent two weeks at this place, first night, the room was worse than a prison cell, toilet dirty with excrement that hadn't been cleaned, the bathroom floor covering lifting and dirty, I complained and was told they had water issues that is why the toilet hadn't been cleaned,?? I was moved to another room, much better but not great! came to have my morning shower no water, apologies from the receptionist yet again, I toddled off to work, again no water that evening, again moved to another block and assured there was water, moved in to the new room accompanied by the receptionist who tried the shower, yep water, spent some hours doing home work until around 10 pm went for a shower NO WATER. I went to reception yet again listened to all sorts of explanations about water tankers and broken down pumps, again in the morning no shower, just managed to half flush the toilet. the third night we have water. I worked long hours during the week burning the midnight oil, snatching a bowl of cereal in the morning no time for cooked breakfast. My departure on the Monday I am looking forward to some bacon and eggs, came to order my breakfast and was told they had NO BACON!!! so disappointed I settled for poached egg on toast, when it came back the eggs were not cooked.. I gave up. One thing the staff are good at is apologising. I must admit the staff tried very hard. Management need a good shake.!! The Hotel has a beautiful exterior and the staff were very friendly when we arrived. However, upon check in we were told that the water was not drinkable due to a filtration problem, we were then put into a really tiny room with no bottled water, with a horrid smell and an electrical buzz which went on all night. At 1 am after realising this loud buzzing would not end we contacted the night porter. Dave (the night porter) saved this review getting a 1 star as he was really kind and very quick to switch our room. It turns out that this room had been complained about the night before and shouldn’t have been available for allocation. We were then put in a new double room. This new room was spacious and habitual by 2 people unlike our previous room (I am unsure why we were allocated to the other room in the first place). I wish that I could say we then had a great night’s sleep but the bed was uncomfortable and the walls so thin that I could hear our neighbour every time they turned over in bed. All in all, this place was not worth the £99 that they charged me (including breakfast). It is in dire need of a refurb and until then I think that everyone should just stay in a Premier Inn or a Holiday Inn express. Save yourself some money and a poor night’s sleep.

Lovely venue and grounds. Plenty of parking spaces available. As it's out in the sticks, some of the roads to get there are a little tight.

Went here with Mrs C for tea for 2 which consisted of a nice mixture of sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam, mixture of cakes as well as a trifle (this was a little bland) and lemon posset (unfortunately the spoon wouldn't fit in the little glass it was presented in!). Our waitress was very polite and helpful. Seemed a little shy/nervous but had no reason to be. The hotel could be spectacular. It has good grounds and plenty of space inside and out - but it felt a bit run down overall.

We were actually here for a Wake. I have been here several times and found it to be a very friendly little pub. The staff had put together a reasonably versatile buffet for the Wake, too much white bread, but that's personal choice. The lemon drizzle cake was outstanding. I was pleased that the barmaid suggested that the surplus food should be taken to the bar to be shared rather than wasted.

I felt it was quite an awkward place. You have to book in advance for afternoon tea when in reality it was dry, cheap bread with probably aldi ham in the middle and dry cakes. Upon arrival the owner was leaning over the counter playing on her phone. No customer service. Once the food was placed in front of us I noticed that a hair was in one of the scones. She then replaced it with a small shop bought one. The other scone was very hard and dry. The cups were dirty and we had no spoons. The milk was a little off as if it had been sat on the table all day. Overall not a great experience. I think the whole afternoon tea was chucked together onto a cake stand, put on top of sticky tables, costing a couple of quid but charging people so much more. The whole experience was very awkward and it didn't feel very welcoming in there at all which is sad because it's not the service you would expect from a small local coffee shop. Costa provides a better experience!
