As always, we have absolutely fantastic food and customer service. It’s a pleasure to eat here. The owners are always super friendly despite being rushed off their feet. Food is always fresh with decent portion sizes. I highly recommend eating here.

I required 2 rooms in or close to Scalford for myself and a colleague to stay before a days staff training. Looked about, there were vacancies in Scalford, but not that I could accept. I opted for the Tollemache arms, purely on reviews by previous guests. I was not disappointed. The people at the Tollemache arms are in a service industry and they get it, they provide a service, with a smile, easily, nothing is too much. They are just nice. From the initial phone call to make the booking, to the reception on my arrival, to the evening meal, and a really wonderful packed breakfast. All good, better than good. Phoned and booked direct, really helpful from initial contact, with "if we're closed when you arrive just call us, we'll be there and we'll let you in". I was allocated room 4, overlooking the beer garden, a quiet room to have in winter. Ample milk and coffee sachets, tea bags, and 2 biscuit packs supplied. The bathroom is big, the bedroom fine. Supper. A warm dining room, nicely laid out. They had a party of 20 in for a Christmas party, so our dining time options were restricted, and we had been told that, so being reasonable, it was not an issue. It's not reasonable to go in at any time and demand everything, immediately! My, fish and chips, was good, really, seriously good. My colleague had the burger. I had a tase of the burger. Next time, I WILL have the burger. Please note that breakfast is served FROM 0730. We were due to start work at 8, so sadly missed out on a cooked breakfast. The optional items for that were numerous, really sadly, we missed out. Fair enough. If we needed breakfast at 0500, it wasn't on. Anyway, we were offered and went away with a packed breakfast in a bag. Ham and cheese salad sandwich, crisps, bottle of fruit juice, and a large slab of chocolate cake. The ham was sliced chunks of ham off the bone, sliced red onion, cucumber, lettuce, mayonnaise, delicious. I don't comment on decor or the plumpness of cushions. I stay away on business a lot. No matter how fancy a room or the decor or the facade, if the service or attitude of the staff or proprietor is wanting, it blights the stay. The Tollemache Arms and the staff is, are, a little gem, tucked away in the middle of nowhere. When I next work near Scalford, I will look to stay here again. If I look for a weekend break in or around Scalford, I would look to stay here. Happy to have found this place. I wish them all well.

The Tollemache Arms in Buckminster is quite a convoluted experience. There are positives and negatives. Imagine the film Deliverance meets the pub in American Wearwolf in London and you're not too far off regarding the locals. Small group of people intermarry over long time... Read between the lines and I'm sure you'll all understand! It is only fair and correct that they're called out. Still... owners of pub pleasant and the pub itself pretty nice also. Food good and drinks good too. Nasty locals though... But they have yellow spines too... They would never dare look into the whites of a person's eyes... Cowards... A good pub in a backward location.

Our experience at this hotel was amazing. For a start, it’s absolutely beautiful and the pictures of it online really don’t do it justice. I was there with my husband and mum in law, and are en suite rooms were both stunning with much attention to detail. The bar staff - and it’s an extensive bar with many tables - were very accommodating and polite with good humour. But beyond all of the above, the food was outstanding. We had dinner last night and breakfast this morning; and it was delicious. I’d recommend this hotel to anyone who likes beauty, organisation, and a friendly service.

We booked a table for a Thursday evening in early March, though it turned out not to be necessary as we were the only ones eating in the restaurant. The pork loin was enjoyable, generous portions with plenty of vegetables. Pleasant surroundings, friendly staff and a lovely log fire on a cold night. Reasonable prices, too. Certainly deserving of more custom than they had this evening.

A mediocre lunch. Ordered roast beef sandwich with horseradish and soup. The roast beef was just a grey slab between pieces of ready sliced bread smothered in margarine. No horseradish! The soup tasted suspiciously of canned tomato soup with some bits thrown in. On the positive side the bar staff were very friendly.

The Tollemache Arms pub in Buckminster has great potential and is situated in quite a pretty area for the Midlands of England. However, the place is rather tarnished by the peculiar people in the local area who become the resident barflies. These locals have an odd mentality - they view people from nearby villages as strangers! - and they have these strangely glazed, dead eyes and blank facial expressions. Considering the year is 2022 and not 1722, it is all rather odd and off-putting to put it in a polite manner. Saying that, the menu is decent enough and the drinks average to good, so in that regard the place is okay. Sadly, the bizarre and very unhealthy mentality of the locals creates a rather bleak and dead location. Plenty of other options nearby.

We visited here for lunch today - 4 people and we were all disappointed with our food. We’d heard good reports, but understand that it’s recently been taken under new management who seem to be trying to cut costs and corners. The first bad sign was the “fresh bread rolls with butter” given to all tables - not home made or even home baked - but 2 cheap bread rolls cut in half with margarine instead... The soup we asked for the bread to come out unbuttered - came out buttered. The chicken and pasta - I do not think this dish was freshly cooked but a microwave ready meal (I’ve worked in hospitality for many years and know the difference) the “creamy” sauce was watery and all very bland - the chicken on top was dry. The “steak burger” again was disappointing. The roll it came in again was a cheap nasty roll. The bacon on top was like shoe leather and the burger itself was dry and poor quality. This all came with a minuscule portion of fries. We did offer our feedback at the end but were given an unconvincing sorry and that was all - no one seemed interested to gain any further feedback from us. The only positives were the young waitress who was friendly and the dog was offered a few treats and a warm welcome.

When I pulled up to The Tollemarche Inn I was wowed by the atmospheric lighting which adorned the outside. On entering, the signs were all good... A polite waitress wearing a stylish apron greeted us and we sat down at our booked table and admired we the surroundings. Our canine companion was also warmly greeted and given a water bowl immediately. It was once presented with our menus that things took a turn for the worse.... The sandwich menu was very good value, there was also a good range of hot food, slightly overpriced but would have been worth it when taking in the surroundings had it been good. Across the bottom of the menu was an Allergen disclaimer......It said they used all allergens within their menu and have all kinds of things flying around the kitchen and couldn't guarantee that anything could be free from anything! Whilst I appreciate the tongue in cheek nature of the comment, it was a little off putting! We selected our choices after much deliberation. When our food arrived we were all disappointed. My bread which I had requested unbuttered was not, the chicken pasta was accompanied by half a soggy garlic baguette which hadn't been cut into slices and my friends burger was accompanied by fizzy (off) coleslaw. All the food was presented pleasantly it just tasted disappointing and like it had been microwaved. When our half eaten plates were cleared we were asked if everything was OK and responded that it wasn't. There was no apology offered and no further communication regarding it, despite us hanging around for a further half an hour. I read from previous comments that this is a new management team and I hope my constructive criticism will be taken on board.

New management team Andy & Tracey at the Tollemache Arms thank you for a wonderful stay .........We have just returned from a fabulous weekend break at the Tollemarche Arms in Buckminster, a gorgeous country pub in a quiet setting close to some lovely places to visit The rooms were great, very comfortable and spotlessly clean with comfy beds, the access to our rooms was private with a separate entrance to the pub. We were a group of 7 with two well behaved dogs and we couldn’t have been made more welcome by the staff and the management, check in was easy and the management regular checked with us that everything was ok, nothing was too much trouble Great inside and outside spaces with care being taken with social distancing and regular sanitising, we felt safe and happy eating and drinking knowing staff were following the covid guidelines which filled us with confidence The food was outstanding and super value for money so we ate there for the full three days, the staff couldn’t do enough for us it was such a friendly relaxing place I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Tollemache Arms, close by is the lovely town of Stamford well worth a visit and Rutland Water was a gorgeous day out in an amazing setting with a gorgeous lake and lovely walks Many thanks to the management team Andy and Tracey and all their lovely staff for making us so very welcome and ensuring we had a wonderful break, we will be returning to this little gem of a place, hopefully very soon

We had a meal yesterday at the Tollemache Arms. We're not local, but we chose it because it was only a few minutes from where we were visiting. The building is lovely and there was ample parking. We walked in to find welcoming bar staff and a roaring log fire. We shared a starter: the pork belly bites. My goodness they were delicious. Crispy and hot and just perfectly cooked. We both ordered Sunday roasts: one beef and one chicken. Both were fantastic and came with roast potatoes, cabbage, corn on the cob, cauliflower cheese and a HUGE yorkshire pudding.Once we finished our roasts we waited an absolute age for our plates to be cleared and to be offered dessert. We shared a sticky toffee pudding which was wonderful. Full marks for the food, it was all fantastic. We then waited ages again for our plates to be cleared and for the bill. In the meantime I went to the loo and there was no toilet paper in one, and a used panty liner stuck to the ledge. Gross. So, fantastic food but slightly let down by slow service (though we had been warned that there was a large party in at the same time so maybe it was to be expected) and by the state of the toilets.

When we checked in staff were very welcoming, they accommodated us on an exceptional vegetarian breakfast, and were extremely helpful. The room was lovely and we couldn't fault it. I guess with feedback we should add an "even better of". So, an even better if, would be, if they could use better extractor fans in the kitchen as the landing and stairs outside the rooms smelt of cooking. That's my only critique, the premises in every other way were perfect.

We were quite disappointed, although the food was ok it was a little underwhelming, the presentation made it look delicious but the eating fell short. As an example, Bubble and Squeak..that part of the dish was good however what should have been a runny egg yolk cascading onto its base was actually baked solid...on both eggs with a hollandaise sauce that tasted ready made from a jar rather than Chef made. The side of onion rings were dripping in grease.Thai Crab cakes again tasted more like catering pack than freshly made by the Chef, they were OK but not as expected, the same would apply to the chocolate tart and I would doubt very much that it was Chef made and not catering pack, one give away for us was that the chocolate had separated from the pastry case with hard anemic under cooked pastry ...just like a shop brought one...To sum up it all tasted more catering pack than fresh Chef....Staff were great but will not go there again unless the food improves to match the description on their web site.

Stopped for lunch after visiting relatives. We had a really warm welcome not least of all from Roxy the labrador. We ordered the sandwiches which are accompanied by home made hand cut chips. What sandwiches!!. I ordered the pork and stuffing. It was hot, juicy and tasted incredible. I can honestly say it was the best sandwich I have ever had...... and I thought long and hard before making that statement. My daughter equally loved the Cheddar, red onion and chutney sandwich. Also, sandwiches and chips are only £6.50. Bargain. Can't wait to go back.

We enjoyed an excellent meal from a good number of options. Both the fish and chips and the casserole were good size portions and very tasty. Too full for a pudding unfortunately, but we enjoyed drinks in front of the fire on a cold winter's afternoon.

We have just arrived home from our night away at the Tollemache, with full bellies and relaxed bones. What a superb, friendly place. Drinks by the open fire and an incredible meal in the evening. The Chef! Thank you! We have loved every minute and want to thank all the staff for a lovely, lovely stay. Would recommend in a heart beat.

The menu was extensive, food was delicious, portions were ample. Excellent value for money. Staff extremely helpful, courteous and paid attention to detail. Took my mother for her 103rd birthday lunch. The chef made a special cake with a firework on top. They put us near a window and brought in extra heating for Mum. Previously took son and granddaughters and they were amazed at the food, service and comfort. We will be going there many times. Chef, please don't leave!

Wow! All I’m saying is Christmas menu - venison burger my fiancée who would never order venison regretted ordering the delicious tollemache burger. Service was really friendly and attentive, nice atmosphere in the locals bar, with open fire and beautifully decorated Christmas tree. Will be making a visit back here next time we’re in the area !

We had a lovely Sunday roast dinner today that was a last minute decision the day before to get a table booked at one of our local pubs, everywhere was booked up but upon speaking to the the Tollemache Arms whom had a large party in the restaurant said they could fit us in the bar area. The whole meal was fantastic! The children’s meal came out with our starters and the waiting on staff were extremely prompt at collecting the plates for the main course to come out. We will definitely be making another visit here. Thank you

Lovely welcome by friendly staff, great real fire burning! An interesting short menu for us oldies, but the food was just perfect! I had fish and chips and the portions well ample and the fish was succulent in a light dry batter, one of the best I've tasted! Our friends loved their smothered chicken. The other great feature is local real ale, or is it craft ale now! Magnificent taste and flavour, just had to have another!!

Incredibly good catering for vegans; if you ring up before hand and let the chefs know you're coming they'll get the ingredients in to make something for you, and thank you for challenging them to it! The two vegan soups and asparagus starters as well as the vegan curry were very good, but the vegan brownie with ice cream was amazing. Very dog friendly and friendly staff, would definitely recommend to anyone (ignore the reviews of unfriendly customer service).

When visiting our son who has recently moved to the area, the Tollemache Arms was recommended to us and we have eaten there twice now. It will, I think, become a favourite for the future. The quality of the food has been consistently excellent and they have really gone the extra mile to accommodate herselfs gluten intolerance, to the extent that she says she would travel the hour and a halfs drive, just to have the gluten free Beer Battered Prawns (not that she's the one doing the driving)! Having indulged myself with a really excellent Sunday roast I noticed someone else having baby back ribs with chips and coveted them but I was stuffed. My son was the only one who could manage a dessert (Chocolate Caramel Tart) which looked and we were assured tasted scrumpy! The staffs obvious knowledge of food intolerances suggests good training and gives us confidence in eating there - others with food intolerances / allergies please note! The service we received was first class. It was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. All in all a very good experience.

Decided to have a run out for lunch and this pub was recommended by a local. We couldn't believe the size of the pub and the decor was lovely. It is a well loved place and the staff were very attentive. We were most impressed by the beautiful Labrador sitting on the settee giving the place a lovely relaxed vibe. Beers were local and the food was a good mixture of lunch panini and sandwiches as well as full meals. Food was served by the chef himself and he obviously takes great pride in his work.

We hadn't been to the Tollemache Arms for over 16 years when we lived in the Vale. Cruising around our old haunts today we stopped for a drink. Our immediate impression was how smart it looked with tables set for lunch in the restaurant, a pleasant bar area with leather sofas and the choice of eating in either room. We had had a lateish breakfast so hubby stuck to beer and I had just a starter. King prawns, which were amazing. So we booked for dinner in the evening. Sarah and her team made us very welcome and the chef cooked a perfect medium ribeye steak for me and James had the duck. The restaurant/hotel is situated in the depths of the countryside amongst other small villages. A good place to stay if you are looking for some peace but want all the amenities. We come to Leicestershire every year for a cricket match in Nipton and we will definitely be staying here in 2018.

As the title suggests we've driven past this pub many times, as it's in the way to friends and family. So we decided to meet some friends here for Friday night dinner. Booked a table as recommended by another friend who lives in the village. Good menu , the usual pub grub with a few a la carte dishes. We had duck two ways, a goat cheese tart for our vegetarian friend and I had fish and chips. Delicious , crispy batter , amazing chips , goats cheese tart, gorgeous although two on the plate was too much for my friend and the duck two ways was sublime. Sticky toffee pudding with honeycomb for dessert, my favourite but I couldn't manage it all. Great service by 2nd girls that looked after the whole restaurant. Will definitely be back soon.

Another visit to this lovely country pub. Staff were lovely, lots of laughs and banter. My husband ordered the Tollie burger which has got to be one of the best around! I had the foot long steak ciabatta which totally stalled me in size which meant I had no room for desert I was gutted as the variety of deserts coming out of the kitchen looked to die for!The service as always was great.

Booked meal on 1st June for 17th June at 7.30 but when we rang up on 17th were told they had no booking for us. Very disappointed with this. They did manage to fit us in in the end after much telephoning and complaining by us. But when we arrived none of the management said anything to us about their error in booking our table. No apology or anything, no free drink for birthday boy, no birthday cake. We certainly won't be going back. At the end of the day it was their error even though the management said that they had booked a family meal in the restaurant themselves and they gave up their table for us. Not impressed with no sign of an apology it was as though we should have been grateful. Is this how you run a business bearing in mind there was 8 of us and live in the village and were made to feel awkward.

I stayed at the Tollemarche Arms for two nights as I was in the Leicestershire area for a wedding. I recieved a very warm welcome from the start and was shown to my room which was clean, comfortable and nicely presented. I had two excellent night's sleeps - the establishment was quiet and peaceful (I wouldn't have known I was staying in a pub) and Buckminster is a pretty village; a good base for exploring, for example, Melton Mowbray, the Leicestershire Wolds and Oakham. The breakfast was exceptional; arguably one of the best cooked breakfasts I have enjoyed whilst away. I wouldn't bother driving around for alternative restaurants on an evening either as the dinner menu has an excellent range of dishes. This is obviously a very talented chef who works here. My lamb dish was exceptional. You get a lot for your money at the Tollemarche Arms. The off-road, plentiful parking is a bonus too. If I should find myself in the area again, I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else. You can stop your search for accomodation in East Leicestershire now. Just book! Highly recommended! Thank you everyone at the Tollemarche Arms for a wonderful stay.

We arrived on a week day evening at 7pm to see if by chance there was a table free. At this point there were plenty but as the evening wore on several more tables were then occupied. The pub was recommended to us by a bar steward at the hotel we were staying at nearby and we were very pleased he did and we loved the food. The white bait starter is excellent with the largest white bait I have ever seen! Plenty on the plate to share this starter. Another person had the soup with garlic bread- very nice. We did not choose the burger but saw several coming out and they looked really nice . Certainly a well stacked burger in a bun. The beer battered cod and chips were delicious as was my lasagne. The desserts for me having a sweet tooth were the best ever! I had the rolo dessert and another couple had the cheesecake. Both were beautifully presented and very tasty. As a rule I don't share my dessert but I had had sufficient to be able to give my husband some as it was very rich. If I lived in the area I would definitely return. Please note the bar area is quite small and slightly impersonal as it does not have the look of a village pub. It did however have an impressive gizmo which allowed my husband to have a Guinness from a can- it goes on this metal plate that then froths it up. My husband said almost better than draught!

We popped in for a drink on our wedding day between the ceremony and reception and it was one of our favourite parts of the day. They accommodated a large booking at short notice for our family to have Sunday lunch the following day and couldn’t do enough for us. The food was great and the staff and owners just lovely. We’ll certainly be back!

I’ve visited The Royal Oak quite a few times, and it never fails to impress. The food, service, and atmosphere are consistently fabulous. Every visit is brilliant. I brought my family for Sunday lunch today, and we had an absolutely wonderful experience. Pat and Bini, the owners, are incredibly welcoming, which makes the experience even more special. I absolutely love this pub and can’t recommend it highly enough. A huge thank you to the entire team at the Royal Oak!
